My favorite is Woodchuck hard and dry, which I could get in KY but I haven’t found it frequently here. Last week, the pub we were at had a Woodchuck pear cider, which was quite nice but couldn’t find it in the store. I am glad I found a local place who makes a good cider, we have a billion local breweries, it’s nice to see something different. Two Towns or Tieton? Bellingham Cider Company. Very local.

I feel like crap. Wishing I hadn't started working yesterday when I was technically still on vacation because it's locked me to my desk for 2 days. It will help with my pto pay out, but I really just want to lay down.
There is so much work unpacking from camping and none of us are up to it. All of my spare energy is going to walking the dog which I still need to do today too.
The tree company finally came and cut down the junipers in front of my house. The place looks so different I need to decide what to do with that area and the entire yard. Oh, and put up real blinds since the bushes covered our bedroom windows.

We are leaving tomorrow for a long weekend away and I'd much rather be getting ready for that than finishing out my work day. DH and I haven't been on vacation together since last November, so I'm really looking forward to this.

I took today off just because I damned well felt like it. Did some work in the yard before it got too hot, picked up groceries, and made air fryer catfish for lunch. I think I'm going to stretch out with the remote for a while.

3 people on my shift at work are retiring, and today was their last day. All 3 are in their early 70’s. 2 of them are custodians, 1 does the same type of work I do, I’ll call him H. If he’d stayed a few more months, he would’ve been there for 50 years. He had the most seniority in the building.
H has always dressed nice, but today he took it to the next level and came in in a suit, with a hat on. The custodians had planned a lunch celebration at work for their 2 guys, me and the lady I work with were lucky enough to have been invited. When they found out that today was also going to be H’s last day, they invited him to come be one of the guests of honor too. It was in the basement of the building, but they did such an awesome job decorating, it looked like we were somewhere nice lol. The whole thing was very nice, they even had a red “carpet” for the guys.
About 10 minutes before the end of the workday, a guy that works the evening shift paged H and 3 of his closest work buddies to the dock. The lady I work with and I knew something was up, so we went to the dock too, to be nosey. 3 other ladies did the same lol. They had an old song I didn’t recognize playing from a boom box, and the 4 guys were singing the song to H. H was standing there grinning. None of them can sing, but that wasn’t the point lol. It was SO heartwarming to watch. When the song ended, H just turned around and walked over to the time clock. He was wiping his eyes.
When he got his composure and turned back around, the evening shift guy and I walked over to him and I took a picture of them for evening shift guy. Then I hugged H tight and told him I’m so happy for him that he’s leaving in good health (many of our coworkers are broke down by the time they retire) and can enjoy life, doing whatever he wants. I told him to take care and that I wish him much love, peace and happiness. He just nodded his head, I could tell he was emotional again, so I squeezed his arm and told him bye. I was kind of emotional myself, seeing the love his friends had shown him with the song. I did manage not to tear up though.
Every once in a while something happens at work that reminds me that in some ways we’re like a huge dysfunctional family. I guess when you work with the same people for decades, and sometimes spend more of your waking hours with them than your real family, it tends to feel like that over the years. Today was one of those times that it felt like family.

I'll be up here till about 9:30. Dad went home to change and crash for a bit. He said he wouldn't make me spend the night even though I offered he knows I don't like it here and at night is a lot to ask. He said he's not going to ask that of his kids.

I decided to jump in and applied for the husky cross yesterday and after filling out a gazillion forms giving them a long list of references and copies of the vet records of the other animals I was denied because I am gone 9 hours of the day for work.
I hate work.
At least I have a dog for the weekend. Ed is staying with us until Sunday night.
Sorry the Husky didn't work out.
By chance, do you happen to have a local newspaper that has a "pet" column in the classified section?
The one here always has dogs/cats/birds/etc. of all ages and breeds listed for adoption by individual people. Some of course are for sale (purebreds), but most are free to a good home.
Just a thought

I took Harriet out for a walk and neighbor was out with Inga…..her rottie. She has to keep Inga on a leash and calmed down as she has just had (I think) ACL surgery. Now it looks like her other knee is shot. Neighbor jokes she has a decent chunk of retirement tied up in her dog’s knees.
I was telling her that our dog sitter has threatened to file for custody of Harriet, and she said that everyone in the neighborhood wants Harriet too. She is a good pup, hard to believe she’s 10.

I'm thoroughly enjoying Pella. I just bicycled another 15 miles today and "discovered" the Third Reformed Church. wow. Lot of people in the pews there on Sunday. One of my aunts lived in a small town outside of Pella called Leighton. Population 158 Dutch people. Her funeral was at their Dutch Reformed Church in town. The one where my cousin got married and it was tiny, like all of the small town churches back then. At the time of my aunt's funeral, the church had at least tripled in size and had elevators. My sister and I had worried all the way there about getting dad up the steps since we knew he would refuse the wheelchair we had brought along. He tried to refuse the elevator but the minister told him that's why we have it. So he and his two brothers all used the elevator. They were talking about how many people attend services. The church we used for the luncheon for dad's funeral was a Dutch Reformed church in Oskaloosa. It has also increased in size and had elevators and a modern, large room for things like funeral luncheons. I have been to weddings there, too, and it looks nothing like it did even 20 years ago.

So your policy states a maximum age for drivers? Do individual drivers get added to the policy, or is it just issued to the company? Yes. A commercial policy lists a maximum driver age. This particular one says 70yo. This is why it is getting denied. Individual drivers are added. 1. The trucking company should have known better. 2. The CSR should have checked and known better. Now people are going to be looking at me to fix it and I'm not going to be able to because the guidelines are set an nobody caught it and now the driver is going to have to go and gets to lose their job when they never should have been hired in the first place. Hot damn! My CSR found an email from the underwriter's assistant saying the driver is acceptable. This changes the game completely! I'm about 95% sure I can get this claim paid.

Grandson had a ball at the pool, it is very nice. DD got in a few times but laid in the sun, first time for her. She said she didn't want to go tomorrow but after grandson is gone, going to make her go. I will get in with her. This time I was mainly watching out for grandson.
And I'm pooped. Came home and was going to make up the beds, hubs had already done it, thank you, thank you.
Grandson wanted Subway again, I let him have it. Hubs and DD are having filet mignon and baked potato. I picked me up some fried fish.
We all had a great time. I'm so happy the community was able to get one again.

I went to get my hair cut. I told him 'Do whatever you want. I want to look like I go to the hairdresser, instead of looking like the cat's been chewing on my hair." So, he gave me Halle Berry hair, but it's white-blonde. I like it.

I went and got a cortisone shot in my shoulder a little bit ago. I feel like taking a nap. It is not due to the cortisone as I felt like this before I left. Hopefully this will help. They said I had an impingement.
I decided I want to clean my main living area really well this weekend, so hopefully the shot works. I am scheduled for PT next Tuesday. They said one or the other might work by itself, but doing both would definitely give me better chances.
My Niece had a baby this weekend. The pics her DH posted of the kids with the baby were adorable. They now have 3. My Brother and SIL have 6 Grandchildren. I am not sure if their kids will have anymore, I think the girls have said they are done, and their Son is probably done too, as he and his wife are a bit older, so she was concerned about complications before Roe v Wade was struck down, now I think she will not take any chances.

That's BS. Plenty of people are gone that long for work. I was for years before COVID and the twins survived.

I stopped at my supermarket across the street to buy some pistachios, fresh corn and cherries. They're giving away free rainbow-coloured roses at the checkout in honour of Pride month.

hallelujah, I'm home for the night. the final tow truck driver drives like I do, and we made it with time to spare. the bonus of rolling in hot at the end of the day though? today's loaners had started coming in, so I was able to leave in a shiny new CX-5 and cancel the paid rental. I'll be keeping the CX-5 until they are able to figure out what's wrong with mine, and that's the uncertainty that made me really not want to have to pay to rent. the weekly rate was tolerable, but if I would end up paying more or close to the week to turn in the car after like 4 days, that would piss me off. that said, the service writer tried starting it after it was on their lot, and he was confused by the sequence of electrical events. so I really have no idea what to expect the problem to be. we were chatting, he says if I had an automatic, he could tick off a few different things about the power to an automatic motor. but mine's not automatic, so he's stumped. great.

Devil dog sleeps for 16+ hours a day. His collar tracks it for us along with his steps. Adult dogs can definitely survive and entertain themselves during a workday.

Speaking of devil dog, I still need to get him walked, and ideally for 3+ miles. But I'm feeling pretty miserable. Will try to get him out, then find something tv to binge.
I told the collie rescue not to hold anyone for us since we have a week of isolation before we could meet them. I'm waffling on a 2nd dog now too. Devil dog is better than he was but that's a low bar. Trying to figure out if a 2nd dog would burn off enough of his energy to bring out his better side, or if it would just double my work and training load.

Unsolved murder solved.
Anita Knutson who was murdered in her Minot Apartment in 2007 was the granddaughter of Greta Knutson, a fellow church member who passed years ago. I was in Bible Study with Greta when all this happened. It took 15 years for our prayers to be answered.
I want to shout Thanks Be to God for finding the alleged assailant. Amen. Nicole Rice is the alleged perpetrator.
Then, a side note that I don't know if it's related or not. One of the people I play PB with said his son's ex is a Rice. Apparently the entire family is a stab you in the back type. The above literally happened. The hearings keep getting set back because of the amount of evidence.

Bought a paddleboard on prime day. It was bubbling on the side so I wanted to exchange. But apparently it's 3rd party right now (guess the seller has to send in more product?) so I can only return not exchange, but I got $40 off so if I return I miss the same.
For the next two hours the same brand has a slightly longer board with not quite as man elastic ties on sale for only $6 more than my prime deal. Debating whether to just do a switcheroo or hope that my board gets back to prime status so I can exchange.

That's the thing I've run into with rescues around here, they wouldn't adopt if the adults in the house were gone for more than 3 hours a day. I realize most of these rescues are crazy. They also want your current vet and we currently have no animals.
The 3 hours a day is no longer a thing with covid and work from home but it left a bad taste in my mouth.

That's BS. Plenty of people are gone that long for work. I was for years before COVID and the twins survived. They said she was high energy and they were concerned about her with chickens too, so it wasn't just a straight leaving the dog while at work issue. The director called and left a message that they had another dog that they hadn't posted yet that they thought would be a better fit. I called them back and I'm not sure. It's s 6 year old German Shepherd/Lab cross that's going to have to be on medication the rest of her life. Not worried about having to do meds (unless they're crazy expensive), but it's because she has bladder "leakage" issues that she's had since she was spayed. The lady I talked to said the person who surrendered the dog was a family member of hers so she knows the dog really well. I need to clarify, but it sounds like they just put it on the meds and she's had her for a week and she hasn't had any issues at her house at all. She took her to the vet today and had a full panel of lab tests done to see if she has a UTI or something and would have those results on Monday or Tuesday and would call me back.

Mister and I are sitting on the deck. The gate is open for Newbie to go run around in the yard if she wants to, but she is preoccupied with other stuff. SOMEHOW, one of my baby green tomatoes ended up half eaten, on top of the deck box we store stuff I . And Newbie is obsessed with sniffing around over there, I guess because she can smell that a critter was over there. When she’s not doing that, she is very clearly stalking something down on the ground. Something that is either hiding under the riding mower or under the deck. If not for my concern that it might be a snake, I’d leave her be to keep stalking, but I don’t want her to tangle with a snake and get bitten. So I keep calling her away from her stalking. Yesterday I rode with Mister to buy Newbie dog food. We managed to spend $130 on food, treats, and a toy. Is this dog spoiled, or what? The toy is a ball that is not solid. It has open spaces, so you can put treats or smaller toys in it for your dog to figure out how to get it out. It’s sitting in the house with a treat in it right now. I put the treat in it yesterday. Newbie is clearly not interested. But when she did go out in the yard earlier, she ran to that stupid blue ball and played with it. Sigh.

I'm freshly showered and about ready to pass out cold. I found Knives Out on Paramount, it started at 8. listening to Christopher Plummer's voice hasn't changed at all since I was a kid watching the Sound of Music, the role he was not shy about saying he hated. I think what bring back SoM is that Marta (the nurse in KO) is also the name of the 2nd youngest Von Trapp kid in the movie. and his affect hasn't changed at all.
I'm talking a good game rn, but I'll be out cold as soon as I put this phone down. bonus - I get the pups back tomorrow. 💗💗💗

I never had luck getting a dog from ASPCA, I had collage age kids home 90% of time and a house keeper when the were not. Look at Facebook or craigslist. Found two at Petfinder but had to travel to get them. Do not understand how they figure the dog is better off in cage than with some body with room to run and being trained.

My neighbor got a dog from the Humane Society. In addition to vet records and such, they actually do a home visit. Other dogs in the home have to come meet the dog you want at the shelter. Anyway, all that screening, and they let my 84 year old neighbor adopt a one year old dog without a backup plan. I was pissed about that. Anyhoo, I promptly fell in love with said dog. Neighbor died last year at 87. I now have a dog. And two additional cats. I love them all!
