Congratulations, andi9899! This house is going to be great, I bet. I really hope so. Pray that my cousin gives me the green light on the electricity. If so, I'm all in.

School sent through 504 paperwork. That can only help, right? No reason not to fill them out, right? I want to do right by teen but don't have bandwidth to research this like I normally would. Yes. I’m happy to talk you through it. Let me know and I’ll send you my phone number. Thanks and may take you up on it. I'm in triage mode. Have to stay on top of client project due tomorrow and need to make contact with bio mom via email to see if she has signed anything with consent forms needed before next week. Also leaves a paper trail. Apparently she decided this is the week to call back trauma therapy group that I tried to set up in June. Since then we've learned that they aren't a great group and only do intense group therapy. Also credible rumors of them overmedicating poc. Teen refuses group therapy and the intensity will be too much right now. And they aren't in tune with these episodes. Meanwhile they showed up at school after teen's episodes and started making waves about seeing her. Just fucking great bc mom is def going to fight on me stopping their involvement.

today's background noise was largely HLN. I just finished an episode that was part 2 about Madeleine McCann. was anyone else glued to that case back when she went missing? 3yo Scottish kid, vanished from a resort in southern Portugal while on holiday with her family in 2007. I somehow missed the updates back in 2020, that there's a prime suspect now, and that the authorities are finally confident enough to publicly say she's most likely been dead since not long after her disappearance. wow.

I liked giramomma 's post not because I liked the content but because I agreed with her assessment. I think DFCS is focused on keeping children from being physically harmed and killed and there just isn't time to deal with kids who are not in imminent danger. It's a horrendous situation and could be dealt with if society as a whole was willing to pay more in taxes to employ more social workers. What do you think are the chances of that happening? That is exactly it.

Felt tired and a bit warm which might or might not have been due to our shots so I took a 30 minute nap before working on the brokerage statements. I'll finish them tomorrow and do a bit of bill pay and cleaning. I'm looking forward to grilling the lamb even if the forecast is for mid-90's.
We're signing up for a 6-month subscription with a company that ships various snacks and teas from Japan. It's been popping up in my FB feed for a bit so I showed it to DH today and he's on board with the idea.

Today I have been reading newspaper articles from the 1880's and 1890's about the trial for the murders my 2nd great grandfather committed.
At the time he murdered horse thieves, he was an Alderman on the Des Moines City Council. I now know where they lived. Nor far from where I grew up. After he was arrested and put in jail, he managed to get a meeting with his lawyer at a saloon near the jail, accompanied by a guard from the jail. He got the guard drunk and took off. He left the country and headed for the Rocky Mountains. That area was not part of the US.
He returned home and wore a disguise for several years before the authorities figured out it was him. Betting $$$ were paid. Finally got arrested and there was a trial--18 years after the murders. He was found guilty and his attorney was immediately appealed. He was out on bail. Due to the interference of "official acts" the guilty verdict was overturned and he was free.
The articles state that the stress took a toll on him and he died 4 months after the judgment came down.
So the justice system hasn't really changed. If you have money, you get off.

I painted my hall bathroom today. The countertop install is tomorrow. I hope we can get the plumber back on Monday. We have houseguests Tuesday night. They get what they get as far as a sink. Toilet and tub and shower are all still online, so I am sure we can share the third bathroom for makeup and shaving if we have to. I am ready to be done with this project. DH went out of town about an hour away for a funeral. I am gonna get fried chicken delivered for supper and sit on my tired rear. And have some cocktails.

I got an email from a neighbor who's looking for a Spanish-speaker to take a blind man to the polls during early voting and assist him in casting a ballot. I'm on it!

Rather pissed off at the reorg news and the talking out of both sides of their mouths about promotions.
Apparently uppity ups are getting promotions handed out like party favors.
Us techs still have to "earn and justify" being promoted by demonstrating we can do the job above us.
And only if a position opens. Gee I didn't notice three senior positions open lately.
Then I'm pretty much stuck under my manager forever now. They are putting her in charge of the technical stuff so all four of us techs now report to her.
And reading between the lines it will continue with us doing the crap work which is also the largest since it's "technical" while everyone else gets to do cool stuff that will get recognition.
Oh but we can volunteer for learning opportunities!
I have never wanted to burn a lab down more in my life. Considering some of the j9bs I've had that is saying something.
What do I have to sacrifice and to who to get another damn job?!
I did have a recruiter reach out on LinkedIn. I did sleuthing it is a company in Omaha so it's worth hearing her out.

I got both my Covid and flu shots today. I don't normally get my flu shot this early in the year, but I'm glad to have gotten both of them. And so far, my arm doesn't hurt, so I'm calling it a win!

We are slowly unpacking the boxes. DH got my office and the spare bedroom set up today while I u packed boxes and found places for stuff. Two of my grandkids are coming over for the weekend so I will have a little help. They are 6 and 8 so are really excited to come stay. We finally got Internet a couple of days ago so we can at least watch streaming shows. I’m currently watching “Madam President”. It’s a good show but I never watched it before when it was on tv.

That is so interesting, TheOtherMe . I'll bet if we all dig back far enough, we all have some drama in our family trees. I think we do all of drama and trauma in our pasts. Every family. This got heavy publicity and newspaper articles written because he was a local politician who murdered two Indians, from the Tama Reservation. I had no idea how close his farm was to our house in Des Moines. No idea. I knew where our was had been farmland before our subdivision was developed in the late 50's. His area was developed much earlier than where I lived. I went to junior college near where he lived. His adult children got upset with him because he spent so much money on a huge monument for his headstone. The land for the cemetery is on his farm. When authorities tried to consolidate all the family farm cemeteries in to one, his family refused to let his body and the bodies of his 6 young children be moved, so it's still out there on a private land.

Oh Lord, there was some drama about me trying to charge $$ on my Chase CC for that Japanese subscription box. First, Chase denied it as fraud and texted my husband's phone (this is NOT a joint card!) and he's like WTF. Then Chase decided to remove the denial and let it go through and I had to spend time on the phone explaining which phone number goes with which card number AGAIN. I appreciate the caution about fraud b/c there's enough of that crap out there, but GET THE DAMN PHONE NUMBERS RIGHT! Okay, I've spent a ton on political donations and Japanese cookies and paid the Costco bill so I'm going to go read stupid stuff online and watch junk TV.

Chase is just weird about a lot of shit in general. idk if you're up for exploring other credit cards, but Discover and American Express have been amazing in their customer service in the 25ish years I've used their cards. I travel quite a bit internationally, and no interruptions of availability.

The city raised our water bills a lot, like almost double. I'm watching a pretty heated city council meeting live on Youtube right now. They're normally pretty tame.

Ds found a study that avocado oil and peppermint oil worked as well as minoxidil to regrow hair. I also get a ton of ads for rx hair growth meds - hers is what I remember off the top of my head. I know there's another one. I have seen Nutrafol advertised at my gyno's office, but it was not so bad to ask about it on my last visit. If you get rogaine, get the men's. Women's isn't strong enough.

Are you on biotin? I think I need to try that. I also use Nioxin shampoo for thinning hairI also use thickening style products and hair fibers (when I can run to the store). Another thing to use is volumizer powder. I've got some left over from DD1's cheer days I am also using up. I figure those cheer girls know that stuff so I'm asking what brand volumizer powder? Thoughts on best type of biotin? Also open to any and all comments from the Peanut Gallery. Oh, and please pass the peanuts! I got the sexy hair kind. it's red.

So when my mom decided to cut me off because I wasn't going to grovel for her forgiveness for something I had no control over....it was totally a when a door closes a window opens situation.
I'm experiencing it again. Except it's with the job.
I just cannot tell you how amazing it is.

Our trash bill is $86 a month. Need to recheck and see if the water bill is for 2 months. We are in a city now, and everything is higher.
I really need to look and compare, think I can get auto insurance cheaper, right now have Farmers. Soon as I get time need to comparison shop a few things. I am very happy with Xfinity internet, $56 a month. Ours back home now for internet and landline is $160 a month, dropping it in 2 more months.
We have Mutual of Omaha supplements, considered very good, satisfied with that, plan G and we each pay $255 for hubs and $235 for me monthly.
But I need to sort through a lot of things and see where we are.

One of my chickens is sick so my evening was spent running back to town to stock up on all the home remedies and OTC meds. I don't have a great track record of saving chickens though so keep Betsy in your thoughts, she's going to need it.

Wondering why Facebook is advertising surrogacy to me so much. My parts are gone even if I was younger, and getting pregnant the first 2 times was expensive enough just doing iui. I don't even want to start over anymore.
