Good morning, action-oriented invisipeeps, progeny of take-charge ancestors, organizers of homes, households, voters and careers. Welcome to Friday. I hope this day serves you the fruit of your efforts and leaves you to celebrate wins. I still feel very happy DD will be returning to work in a few days. She's been working hard on physical therapy and the results do show. She'll wear a foot brace to help compensate for her drop foot, which she developed about 10 years ago. She was hospitalized then for serious illness that led to sepsis and never regained her mobility fully after a months-long period of incapacity. I'm relieved for her and also for us. We really cannot afford to support her any longer beyond the limited income she gets. Today I need to work with DD to review her benefits from the 2 jobs she has. Also, attempt some clearing out and organization of the kitchen and guest room. We'll have people over for the birthday bash in early October and there's a lot of work to get done before then. We haven't had rain in 20 days now. The sun flares brightly every morning in a cloudless sky. It did again yesterday at the bare beginning of dawn:

And the hits keep coming. With DH moving to long term disability, we now have a $1200 car insurance payment due next week. We have Farmer's through his employer and it usually comes out of his biweekly paycheck.
And well guys showed up yesterday to look at our water softener. It has been holding water after every cycle and we have to make it generate manually the next day. Turns out we need a second filtration unit. They are going to order one today and let us know when they will install. Not only with this be $$$, we also now need to reconfigure the laundry/utility room to accommodate. That part is way overdue anyway, but now DH is talking about replacing the chest freezer. I let him know that I am in not in favor of that because while it is old and can use a new gasket on the lid it has held up for 25 years and newer stuff just does not last. Plus it is an odd size that I have not been able to find, so would have to go smaller or larger. With my food hoarding tendencies I do not like either option.
And PT office called at lunch time yesterday to reschedule my 530 appt from last night to today, due to illness. So I get to spend my lunch at PT today. And manager scheduled weekly team meeting for 3PM today, Friday, because summer hours have ended.

You are spinning many plates, daisylu. I hope you don't see any drop but do have some time to chill today despite it all.

Canceled PT appointment after puking my guts up. Strangely, no food came up only fluids.

I just got back from an orchard that I found, it was only 5 miles from my house. I never even knew it was there until I googled it, there are still all kinds of places out in the countryside that I am discovering 4 years after I moved here. I got a half bushel of honey crisp apples, so tomorrow will be apple chip day.

Today I have been reading newspaper articles from the 1880's and 1890's about the trial for the murders my 2nd great grandfather committed. At the time he murdered horse thieves, he was an Alderman on the Des Moines City Council. I now know where they lived. Nor far from where I grew up. After he was arrested and put in jail, he managed to get a meeting with his lawyer at a saloon near the jail, accompanied by a guard from the jail. He got the guard drunk and took off. He left the country and headed for the Rocky Mountains. That area was not part of the US. He returned home and wore a disguise for several years before the authorities figured out it was him. Betting $$$ were paid. Finally got arrested and there was a trial--18 years after the murders. He was found guilty and his attorney was immediately appealed. He was out on bail. Due to the interference of "official acts" the guilty verdict was overturned and he was free. The articles state that the stress took a toll on him and he died 4 months after the judgment came down. So the justice system hasn't really changed. If you have money, you get off. Horse theft was punished by hanging, so was it really murder? Yes because he was a private citizen, not an official with any kind of authority to do so. That's why he was found guilty the first time and why he spent so many years on the lam. 2nd GGrandpa was called a vigilante in the newspapers at the time this happened.

Avocado toast and a mango for breakfast. Lamb is marinating with its herbs, toilets are cleaned, and brokerage statements finished. DH took his car to the carwash. After lunch I'll unload the dishwasher and change the towels.

I'm off today and trying to get errands done. I rescheduled my flu and covid shots for today. I was supposed to go Tuesday after work but my body decided to try and kill me Monday night. I'm guessing it was an ovarian cyst acting up. I haven't felt pain like that since my gallbladder tried to kill me.

Had a big mac for lunch after dropping bonus teen off to school (better late than never). Definitely eating my feelings but there are worse ways to cope.

Sent bio mom email of consent forms that are still needed for appts next week including explaining the most important one is for Children's hospital to provide medical records and release for teen to undergo anesthesia to have infected tooth pulled on Friday. Forms that I spent $35 to overnight last Friday plus 4 stamped and addressed envelopes to make her life easier.
Nut job writes back forms aren't needed because she'll be joining us at the appts. Yeah, that's not how medical release works lady.
Thankfully admin at oral surgeon is a gem and has herself fostered teens so she's set to call nut on Mon to go over all of the details including medical release. She also has some kind of program to provide nut with free ride to fill out paperwork in person.
And great, just great bc if she flakes and/or doesn't have a working car or gas money to show up in person then appts can't happen. This has happened twice already. Plus now I get to call new therapist and explain that she must see teen alone or mom will commandeer the appt with her whoa is me crap and teen won't fess up to any of the underlying problems in front of mom.
Oh and yesterday she texted teen asking why I'm allowing her to 'skip' so much school and why she has bad grades in 3 of her classes. FFS! Prob shoulda ordered an extra fry and larger coke.

Yesterday's Covid vaccine continues to kick our butts. DH got over the chills but we both feel feverish and exhausted with stomach pains. While not life-threatening this is by far the strongest reaction we've had to any of the shots.

I got a half bushel of honey crisp apples, so tomorrow will be apple chip day. I found a few orchards, farms, etc during Covid. I would get in my car and drive aimlessly around the county just to get out. I still frequent them for fresh produce. Nothing better than local grown.

We stopped at Bunratty Castle on the way to Galway. We tried to stop there on the way back from the Cliffs of Moher yesterday, but while we saw the castle from the road, we couldn't seem to find the freaking castle. We found it easier coming from the other direction.
Anyway, this castle is the most well preserved castle in Ireland. They have a whole small village surrounding it, with animals, time appropriate cottages with a guy putting on a thatch roof (albeit with a hedge trimmer!). I found one yarn shop where I bought either 4 hanks x 370 yards or 4 x 660 yards of merino yarn. The first was what the seller told me, the second was the yardage written on the hank. What to believe? Worst case, I have enough yarn for a ss sweater, best a long sleeved. Yarn is a gorgeous sky blue. Also found a knitting book that gives directions on the stitches in Aran knits which I was looking for. The final thing I bought was a hand knit, green cape/shawl/sweater. I’m not sure exactly what it is, but really like it. there was also some gorgeous pottery I’d like to have bought, but did not.
Think we are going to find a Hop On Hop Off bus tomorrow.

How is the weather in Ireland? Went once in July and were very happy to get to the Blarney Woolen Mills store where we bought some much needed sweaters The yarn you bought will make a gorgeous sweater!

Oh Lord, there was some drama about me trying to charge $$ on my Chase CC for that Japanese subscription box. First, Chase denied it as fraud and texted my husband's phone (this is NOT a joint card!) and he's like WTF. Then Chase decided to remove the denial and let it go through and I had to spend time on the phone explaining which phone number goes with which card number AGAIN. I appreciate the caution about fraud b/c there's enough of that crap out there, but GET THE DAMN PHONE NUMBERS RIGHT! Okay, I've spent a ton on political donations and Japanese cookies and paid the Costco bill so I'm going to go read stupid stuff online and watch junk TV. Chase is just weird about a lot of shit in general. idk if you're up for exploring other credit cards, but Discover and American Express have been amazing in their customer service in the 25ish years I've used their cards. I travel quite a bit internationally, and no interruptions of availability. They also just got took for about 95 mil by Gen Z's dumb asses recently too, so they're probably going to be extra cautious for a while.

It's a gorgeous summer day here in the Northeast. I'm working from home today because I have a cold. I think I got it at the pool. When I get out of the pool to the showers I freeze so I guess that's how I got it.
I'll be sitting in the balcony at 4 pm sharp All the windows are open right now.
With mom gone I'm restarting activities with my Meetup group. This Sunday we're going to a museum. I hope I feel better by then and I can make it.
I've created a,Facebook page for my Meetup group and I'll move it there exclusively in November. Meetup has gone crazy and monthly fees are $48, which I don't feel comfortable paying.
I've decided to move my old 401k from old job to my IRA with Fidelity. When I called TROWE they said they needed Fidelity's physical address because they will b e sending a paper check. Seriously? I thought they would do a wire transfer but they said no, it'll be a paper check. I don't feel comfortable with that. It's my life savings we're talking about. I told them I'll get back to them with the physical address. I still haven't called back. My desire is to move the money to Fidelity but I'm not comfortable with the paper check.

Ava I'm sure you know this, but make sure they don't send anything, even a check to you or a tax deduction will automatically happen. How they deal with Fidelity is between them. It won't get lost.

You may have better luck calling Fidelity and letting them handle the interactions with TROWE. They have a lot better incentive because they are the ones getting the money. When we transferred my husbands SARSEP to Vanguard, we just called Vanguard and they handled everything for us.
