Got my Novavax Covid vaccine this afternoon, when I went to pick up my food. Will deal with a flu vaccine in October. I'm going to try to get a flu shot next week as no one has the new Covid shot here. I wanted the Covid first but you gotta do what you gotta do.

If its on a fuse box how old is that wiring? I doubt it has been ungraded and might be the old, old stuff. Didn't you have it inspected? We did buy one like that knowing it had fuses and then hubs rewired it all. Plan on rewiring it, as there are likely limited outlets and receptacles and the old wiring may be short and brittle. I'm sorry but wouldn't buy it unless you rewire it. We have bought lots and lots of old houses. None with aluminum wiring and none with fuse boxes. The one we did buy was dirt cheap and he could do it himself. If it was the 600 house it said built in 61, that should not have fuses I don't think. And it looked like a really great place. It was built in the 1960's so probably not like post or knob or anything crazy like that. My first house had a 60 amp fuse box and we swapped it out for a 100 amp breaker panel. Mine was built in 1959 and we still have the original wiring with no issues. When we bought the house in 1995 we upgraded the breaker box to accommodate more circuits b/c I told the electrician I wanted to microwave my breakfast and blow my hair dry at the same time without a problem.

I got the MFing house! I happened to look over the seller's disclosure again and notice that the electricity is on fuses. I asked my cousin if it's a big deal. He said replacing the box is easy but he needs to know what kind of wires are going to it. He's coming to the house on Friday when he gets back in town with me. As long as the wiring is good, I'm signing on the dotted line. I am obsessed with this house, so fingers crossed! Hurray! I think you will love it! When's the closing? I'm going by with my cousin to check the wiring before I fully commit.

DH found an optical boutique that has a choice of several rimless frames which is what he wants, and they can do a custom tint for his sunglasses as he is not happy with the standard offerings. They offer a discount for cash pay which is good. I'm getting my eye exam next Tuesday and plan to order my new glasses sometime later in the week.

I have been doing all the edging, around the floor and ceiling plus door frames. The baseboard is not nailed down, just put in but its in there very good. I took it all out and numbered them so we can put them back after cleaning them. Tomorrow I will be ready to roll the walls.
Figured out that room hasn't been painted in 18 years. After we took the receptacles and things off we could see only the white base coat and the lavender, no other colors. But sometimes that's the best as they haven't slopped things up.
Back at it.
Hubs decided to put a second coat on the ceiling. When hubs comes back want him to do DD's ceiling then we can get the flooring replaced.
Making an appointment to have the fireplace and chimney gone over, hubs said I'm just spending money. I said no, if its like everything else in here its not been checked. We put up a new smoke and carbon monoxide detector in our room. The electric wasn't hooked up and it was taped to the ceiling!! We will replace each as we go through the house.
While hubs is gone I'm going to try and do the ceiling and side walls in our bathroom and the small bathroom. He struggled doing that today and moving furniture, I need to help him more till he recovers from COVID.

The lady who gave us the shot must have been new, bc we both has actual bruises where the needle went in. Ouch! Also I realize “general area” here is HUGE so I understand that you want to find a place close that you are familiar with

Our clinic doesn't have it. I've heard that some stores in the north part of our county do have it. I appreciate you sharing your information, and sorry y'all got the owies from your shots.

It's Novavax that is hard to find because at present in my area CVS is the only one who carries it. They received a box with 10 files that expire October 31. That's it and they have not yet been told if/when they will receive more. This is one of the times I am happy I live in a rural area. I also had to call to make the appointment. It doesn't show up on their website. I had to leave a voice mail and they did call me back and scheduled it for today. This store had Moderna and Novavax.

Noticed pool table in basement Ask them to leave it, or you might be able to buy cheap. Costs $$ to move cause so heavy Pool table stays. They don't want to move it. Unfortunately I think the washer/dryer stays too. I don't want them. I'll probably give them to someone in the family if they need them. Or I'll put them out for the trash or sell them. My parents left a washer and dryer and a freezer in their house when they sold it. The washer and dryer were Maytag and at least 25 years old.

So what are your thoughts on where to put my huge dining room table since there is no formal dining room? Originally I thought the sitting room with the carpet. Now I'm thinking in of using the living room as a dining/sitting area and the living room with the carpet as the main living room. I worry about food spilling on brand new carpet. Also, feel like the carpeted room is more homey.

eta: Where does the garage go into the house? At my house, the front door is almost never used anyhow. It's the walk door from the garage that gets 99% of the traffic.

Yes. I was thinking about putting it at the far end close to the kitchen. I could put a few chairs or maybe even a sofa on the other end. The door to the garage is around the corner if I remember right. It's in the back of the garage.

I did horrible in math in high school. It didn't "click" for me until college, then I took a lot of it as part of my science major.
I really don't like how much they're pushing kids through math earlier these days. I mean, I get that you don't want an advanced math student being held back by a slow moving curriculum, but I think the criteria for going above grade level should be stricter. In my state, you are required to take 3 years of high school math and reach the level of Algebra II. Our flagship college requires 4 years of HS math for admission. Carrot is only in 9th grade and already in Algebra II which means in order to take 3 more years of math he's going to be into some pretty advanced stuff by senior year for a kid that doesn't aspire to go the STEM route. I'm worried he's going to burn out quickly.
Here, the kids are tracked. DS did algebra one as a freshman. I think the peanut will be on the same path. DD1 is in AP precalc as a Junior. Some parents at the girls' school want their kids to be done with geometry in 8th grade. The teachers finally put their foot down and said they will go as fast as the kids can understand it. That's how the ended up with 4 math tracks.

That's how the ended up with 4 math tracks. Well, I guess they're tracked here too in that all the kids are tested at the end of 6th grade and how they score supposedly determines if they go into Algebra I, pre-Algebra or Basic Math in 7th grade, but I think they try to give as many kids a shot at Algebra I in 7th grade as possible...or parents request it despite scores...because there were a lot of them in there. In order to advance they have to have at least a B in the prior course so 8th grade Geometry there were less, and for Algebra II Carrot says there are only five 9th graders in his class (although there probably is another section). It seems to me that they just are pushing them until they get to a point where they don't get it anymore and then make them repeat that class. A B- being "failing" is a lot of pressure.
My older son didn't start at this school until 9th grade so they just put him in Geometry freshman year and he went through AP Calc AB senior year.

I’m sorry. This doesn’t seem right. How are you supposed to advocate for the teen when her mom won’t AND she ties your hands? All this does is hurt her daughter. Is that the goal? If so, it’s a pretty shitty thing to do as a parent. The standard is "minimally adequate parenting." How is this even minimally adequate parenting?

All that woods! I can't wait for all the possum stories! IkR! I spent the last year bitching about living next to the woods. So then I proceed to buy a house with wooded land. Yeah, we have rodent control on speed dial.

Andi, I think putting your table in the room with the hardwood floor is a good idea, but that room looks kind of narrow. When you are actually entertaining, you need as much room around the table as possible. If you find it is not working for you, watch FB marketplace & buy something else.
I bought a very pretty table & 6 chairs on marketplace a few years back. Just decided it was too big for my dinette. Sliding glass door to backyard is behind table. I bought a smaller table with 4 chairs on FB marketplace for $150 and Sold the old one for $200. I think we paid $300 originally and it has a bit more Character now. Lol. Old one was nicer, but new one is much better in the space.

Just a quick update -- Francine:
I am fine. Francine has passed us. She dropped between 7-9 inches of rain during her time here which led to a lot of flooding. Canals are overflowing and the pumps can't handle that amount of rain in such a short period of time. Some of the street flooding is receding this morning. I did not lose power but lots of people did. Also there was no standing water in front of my home during the peak of the flooding. Will do a check outside later this morning but still plan to remain home for the remainder of day. There are still traffic lights out and I am sure that there are still areas with flooding.

Good morning, industrious invisipeeps, purchasing homes and staying safe in hurricanes. Welcome to Thursday, this fine day in September. I hope this day treats you well and you toast it in your future memories: remember when we . . . The turkey dinner yesterday was a great success. I basted the breast with a mixture of butter, paprika, brown sugar, salt and garlic. Drippings made phenomenal gravy to boot. TOday I slept late, until 5:30, but made it to the beach by 5:45 and the sun doesn't rise until 6:20 anyway. All the summer ice cream has caught up with me. I need to shed 5 lbs. or maybe 10. Yesterday's sunrise was another in a series of cloudless days, this one cheered on by a tiny dinosaur:

The standard is "minimally adequate parenting." How is this even minimally adequate parenting? I agree. And, there's not enough social worker types to go around. What they do have has to be used for the bad cases, I'm assuming like the ones where the kids are locked in a room and given no food or toilet privileges. At the end of the day, bonus teen is getting care. She's getting meals, shelter, and clothing. Bonus teen is not living in a car or on the streets. So, honestly, they probably figure they don't have to worry about her. It's like calling in APS for a visit at the other end of your life. I don't know how an almost 80 year old person staying in a house with no power that's 45 degrees for 5 days doesn't warrant any action. Where my mom lives, the lawyer told old us *maybe* just maybe it might be on the cusp of getting APS's attention. How is my mom not a threat to herself? Or others? She meets the minimum standard for competent. We like to say we protect the vulnerable. There's all sorts of flavors of vulnerable or down/out. What I learned when I was teaching my at risk kids is that down/out but stability in your lives....you are less likely to be on people's radar. Down/out and say your mom leaves you and your dad has to sober up so that he can start taking care of you...Or Dad's not in the picture, mom's not in the picture, and grandparents are tired of parenting...then these are the situations where folks start to get on radar.

I have always shed hair, but not like since hitting menopause. Any suggestions on hair care, vitamins, etc? Are you on biotin? I think I need to try that. I also use Nioxin shampoo for thinning hairI also use thickening style products and hair fibers (when I can run to the store). Another thing to use is volumizer powder. I've got some left over from DD1's cheer days I am also using up.
