I'm awake, and not at all surprised to be. with last night's insomnia, I was exhausted and called a night at like 730 last night. here's hoping I can doze off again before I need to be functional today. 🙄

I hope we both get some sleep tonight. Soon. I couldn't sleep last night either and don't want to go through that again, tonight.

Checked out of hotel in Cork and hanging in the lobby a bit. Check in in Killarney isn’t until 4 and we only have about a 75 min drive. Also waiting for my stomach to settle.
Last night we went looking for a restaurant. Closest I figure, it was near where we had dinner in City Center. There was no parking and the traffic was nuts, so decided to go back to the pub we went to the first night. Get there and saw no food being served. Kitchen closed. Strike 2. We went back to the hotel, it just wasn’t our night for going out. Hotel restaurant was pretty good.

Good morning, illustrious invisipeeps, ending your weekends and readying for Monday. I hope your day runs smoothly and offers you a turn in a hot tub or a spoonful of ice cream or a catch up with an old friend. I'm tired. We got back home about 9:00 last night after stopping at the lighthouse and then for Chinese food with the car packed up. I need to unload it now. Over all this festival was good, not great. The motel we stayed at was clean and freshly painted but old. It had many bicyclists staying, judging by the bikes in front of most of the doors. Plus something I'm unused to seeing: smokers. They filled the clay pots on the edge of the front porch with butts. Our room had no signs of smoke. Maybe smoking was prohibited inside. The only things on the agenda for today are vacuum the house, empty the car and go pick up Franklin the Dog. And, as always, hope for the best. I took this photo in Maine on a dawn walk with Franklin. I love the pattern the surf cut into the sand.

I will never make dinner again once the kids are out of the house. This is my parents. Since they’ve both retired, they just eat out most nights. Or leftovers from whatever they didn’t finish at their fave restaurant. Sometimes they have cereal and toast. Or eggs. But legit that’s the extent of their cooking. Can’t say I blame them - making dinner/cooking food is just not worth the effort most nights. I just don't even like dinner and the ones I do, dh doesn't. I like big breakfasts and lunches though. So I'll go back to that. One of our few dinners we enjoy lately is this. www.allrecipes.com/recipe/185584/chilean-empanada/It's the closest I've found to fil recipe, but I use the freezer section empanada dough instead of making my own, and then we air fry them.

Now that we are done with Covid and life is settled, we need to start having my inlaws over for meals more.
I was doing that a little bit, because it was nice to have a home cooked meal without cooking it. And it's something we can do for them that is useful.
I have started saving a few baked goods for them when I bake now. Just because it's nice and two people aren't going through a dozen muffins at a quick pace.
I really only cook for them and when the kids request something that I make.

I definitely just started the coffeepot with nothing under it. luckily it was just a single cup and I was standing right next to it to hear the coffee hitting the base and sounding much different than when it hits the plastic Tervis. oops. there might need to be a 2nd cup after this one. the good (?) news is that there must have been some other folks on vacation last week also, because there's only about ~1k new messages since 8/29.

fairly decent weekend all things considered. managed to chaperone a first date for teen by sitting across the dining room at Cane's. Then, the date came back here until midnight curfew. Was a blessing to hear them both laughing and laughing. Then took her to Hamilton but she started shutting down at intermission so left and now I've prob lost all date brownie points.
It's like a weird balance of if she's not able to be normal than she sits and stews which triggers more episodes than if she's distracted.
School nurse has dealt with these before which is helpful...working on safety plan to return to school Tues bc she's so afraid of getting behind again.

Ikea has similar style beds - if you have a showroom, you can go and check it out. She may change her mind after lying down in a model bed or you may have to buy one

I saw that bed as a FB ad last night, not sure which retailer though. I like the IKEA idea to test it out in person. I also question what condition a 140lb item would be delivered by Amazon, after how my hammock stand was delivered over the winter.

One of the tricks I use to get dinner on the table, is to thaw out two or three pieces of meat at the same time. Now you have to use it up and figure out a meal plan. By the time you get through those three things, you will have some leftovers to get to the end of the week. Let the crock pot be your friend. Beef chuck roast or a pork butt in the crock pot will make dinner while you are away. We cook chicken breast several pounds at a time because we like chicken salad sandwiches or cooked chicken on lettuce salads. Ground beef is made into patties before it is frozen. This works well for portion control and for cooking from frozen. Two patties make tacos for two people, you get the idea. We also fillet chicken breasts into cutlets and then freeze individual portions. They cook fast on the contact grill for sandwiches or salads. We have been struggling with wanting to cook this summer too. I blame it on the heat. One more week and we should be moving into soup weather. I love me some soup! Good luck with your kitchen adventures Pink. Our problem is that we are burnt out on beef roasts, chicken breasts, chicken wings, salmon, salads, pork chops, bbq, all the ways we cook ground beef, broccoli, spinach, carrots, etc. I love potatoes any way they are cooked, and I am even burnt out on them. We need new ways to prepare what we eat, because we are burnt out on the ways we know how to cook it, if that makes sense. I get overwhelmed looking for recipes for something different. Thank you for wishing me good luck. Quiches with salads, spaghetti, stuffed omelettes, linguini with clam sauce, stuffed peppers, pancakes with bacon, BLTs, hearty soups and stews with crusty breads.......the list is endless. I can teach you how to make a hell of a quiche.

2 nights ago hubs, I, and both cats were in bed. They were almost asleep and I was drifting off. I swear I heard 2 raps on a window, thought I was dreaming but the cats heard it and jumped up growling. In a few minutes I heard it again as did they. It scared me, I woke hubs up. We never heard it again, he said maybe a raccoon or something. Never heard it before haven't again, but it really set me on edge. There is nothing behind us but woods and a creek, but I sure heard it. If he hadn't been here I would really have been scared. We fixed one light on the patio, I have the second one ready to go back up, cleaned and everything it is right by that window. I felt so safe here so kind of gave me the creeps. We have an old house and our windows used to make a lot of random rattling noises in the wind before we renovated. Our attic door will still randomly open from being fully latched shut, not frequently, but maybe once every 4 or 5 months. We have to keep the deadbolt on it locked to stop it from opening, as we don't want the cats up there in all the dust.

I am going to pick up my niece in about two hours for our next math lesson. Last week we moved our day to Thursday, since Monday was a holiday and her dad was off work. So we did math on Thursday, then Friday/Sat we took her up to Pittsburgh to visit a few museums (as a birthday gift). So I am all worn out and really ready to just sit around the house relaxing and recovering from the trip. But I know it's important to be consistent, so I am going to go pick her up for more math lessons today. I hope she isn't totally mathed out.
I did a little assessment of her multiplication on Thursday, and she only knows her 1s,2s and 5s, and she is pretty shaky on the 5s. So we worked on 3 and 4, and I am going to add one number per week to her regular lessons until we get her caught up. I hope once we get her caught up on multiplication I can relax a bit, but I find it so worrisome that she is behind. She is perfectly capable of memorizing them, she just never did it. So she has been working on memorizing and we have been playing a bunch of multiplication card and dice games.

DGD1 had a day bed with a trundle. I 'slept' on it once. All night, I kept thinking that the floor would be more comfortable. It was awful! I would have trouble buying a bed, I couldn't try out first, based on that. But it looked nice. Good luck.

I showed DD1 how I learned it and the lightbulb went on for her. However, even though her answer was correct, she would get marked down because she wasn’t using the method taught. When DD2 got to long division, she adamantly refused to learn any way other than how they were being taught. I couldn’t help her because I couldn’t understand it either.

I tend to get sick of leftovers a lot faster than my husband does, but I am willing to put up with leftovers to cook half as often.

I am catching up on fluids, but it was not a restful day. I woke up to a dying car battery -- the way it started first thing this morning, I knew not to wait. Headed right to the dealership for a free replacement (thanks to that lifetime warranty). Car batteries do not last long here - I got just under three years on this one. I did get a kickbox session in, then got home to trim the hedges. We expect rain later, so I figured it was better to do the outdoor work early.

When DD2 got to long division, she adamantly refused to learn any way other than how they were being taught. I couldn’t help her because I couldn’t understand it either. I had to spend a week studying her curriculum before I picked up teaching her, and I am careful to do it all the way her book shows, but I am also showing her the old school ways to try to find something that will click. But not knowing the multiplication table means that everything is harder for her than it needs to be; she doesn't know that 6x7=42 so she sits there adding 7 together 6 times. She is being homeschooled by her mom, and her mom failed out of math in high school, and I think didn't ever graduate because of math. So that is a whole lot of emotional baggage that probably came with her early math lessons.

BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUt it's the new way!! I did multiplication on my fingers!! Of course I hated math with a passion but it worked for me. Also glad my son had a natural aptitude for math cause counting on me to help with homework would have been a disaster

I missed that by a few years, and I'm thankful. I tried to figure some of it out as an adult and was completely lost. if the student is showing the work that brings them to a correct answer, then they got the answer correct. end of story.

Someone else does the work of cooking and cleaning up! I have had too many food related illnesses to go past 2 days after I cook something. I have a weak stomach, so if its not eaten within two days, I throw it out too. If I know we won't be able to eat it within the limit, I freeze the third portion and reheat it later. I'm a firm believer in the 3 day rule. It's not worth the risk of getting sick. Not for me.
