Dinner with the inlaws was fine. Quite a bit cheaper than expected. We were on time but everyone else was early and started drinking in the bar. I'm wondering if sil picked up that tab.
First weekend of no 2nd job. It's wonderful.
I threw out my back cleaning bunny cages. I was lifting the cage with one hand and sweeping with the other so a wonky twisting and it just seized up. We finished that cage and got them caught up on dishes but couldn't do a 2nd.
The rest of the weekend has been Halloween costuming. Ds wants to do a monster costume where he'll be on stilts and walking on all 4's (using crutches with the arms) and dc has decided they'll be walking the monster in a wizard costume. I need to do some alterations to dc dress, but I need to clean my house too.

Ran the hottest 5K of my life today; it started at 9:30. It was part of a 9/11 memorial, so all the competitions started after the observances at the same time of the morning the towers were hit. I tip my hat (and then some) to the firefighters who did the race and/or the 110-story building climb in full bunker gear. Had lunch with a friend afterwards and then came home to tidy up and pay some bills while dinner (meatballs and spaghetti) simmered on the stove.

I have another missing package. The seller is trying to negotiate the amount of the refund they give me for it. First they offered 30%. I said no. Now they have offered me 50%, saying that's their final offer. Something is better than nothing. But why would I agree to incur their cost of doing business? Is this part of the issue with your apartment complex, or am I thinking of a different poster? If it is an issue with the complex, they are not going to fix it so take what you can get. As much as people hate on Amazon I never have an issue with getting refunded for packages I did not receive.

Got my mom back home. I am currently chilling at a hotel sipping Kendall Jackson Chardonnay and snacking on dark chocolate orange sticks. www.sweetcandy.com/collections/sticks/products/dark-chocolate-orange-sticks I have my work station set up at her house for this week. I hope I can focus because she keeps her house ungodly hot and it is so messy. I will be wrapping up work for the week on Friday morning, meeting with a dear friend for lunch and DD2 and the grand-little for dinner. Heading home at the butt-crack of dawn on Saturday, driving straight through and meeting DH for dinner before I get home. Looking forward to getting my house back in order and spend quality time with DH. Next month we are doing a staycation. There are so many national, state, and regional parks here to explore. Fall should be in full swing and our favorite time of year!

I am happy to be home for work, especially since I don’t have to go tomorrow. It’s crazy how my work days seem soooo long, especially the second half. I HAVE to figure out something to help with me being so bored at work, since that’s why the time seems to pass so slowly.
I’m going to talk to Mister, I’m ready to stop eating out so much, but I still don’t want any of the food we normally cook. I had started using Hello Fresh again, but I stopped it when YD came back, because even though I won’t buy takeout for her, I felt like it was rude to be cooking meals and not have enough for her to eat too. Idk what the difference is between buying takeout and cooking, logically speaking, I just feel like if you cook a meal, it needs to be enough for everybody in the house to eat. Mister and I are both greedy, and the Hello Fresh meals are barely enough for us 2. So now I’m confused all over again, since I’m still sick of all of our usual meals.
I really don’t want to start cooking regularly anyway. I use to get home a couple hours before Mister, so it made sense for me to cook dinner, but now I get home after he does. I’m not coming home and going straight in the kitchen to cook, so by the time I take a minute to unwind, then cook, by the time dinner is ready, it’s almost time for him to go to bed since he gets up earlier than I do. Well, that’s the excuse I wanna use lol.

Well, that’s the excuse I wanna use lol. Didn’t she not want what you were cooking the majority of the time anyway, or am I not remembering correctly? Since she’s not working she can contribute to the household by helping with the cooking by you making it known in advance what will be prepared for dinner that night and her having veggies prepped/stuff marinated or something by the time you get home from work so all you have to do is cook, and/or she can clean up afterwards. If she doesn’t want to help that means she doesn’t want to partake in the family meal and you don’t need to worry about being rude by not cooking for her. I know this could be problematic, but everything regarding her is problematic, and this puts her being included in the meal or not entirely on her and her actions.

We were getting ready to go to the reservoir. I remembered I still need to clean the lower oven. Seemed like the perfect time to do so because we’d be out of the house for three hours. I put the racks in the sink and turned on the oven. I decided to soak the racks while we were gone. Turned on the faucet. Went outside to ask DH what he need help with. He asked me to take the garbage cans out to the curb.—which it’s 300 yards to the curb and we had two more cans to take down there. So I did that. And then I putzed around a bit more outside. Then I went back into the kitchen.

Growing up with my working parents it always the first person home started dinner, especially meat because it takes the longest. The second one home might start sides or make a veg, depending on when they got home during the process. IIRC Mister used to cook. Maybe a food delivery service would get him going again?

She is back to normal, and I am glad for that. She will be seeing her PCP this week, and he should have all of her medical records from my us by now. I am trying to get her to look into senior transportation service for medical appointments at the very least. Thank you for asking.

As much as people hate on Amazon I never have an issue with getting refunded for packages I did not receive. Yep. I have problems with my apt complex. But these recent pkgs have shipped from China. And while they say they were tracked, they really only are marked when they left and when they were supposedly delivered. No delivery company is named, or anything. I should have known, I was buying from an unknown manufacturer, not Chico's. Amazon is much more dependable. I agree.

Refuse anything less than a 100% refund if they can’t provide proof of shipping confirmation and delivery, and dispute the charge with your credit card company if they refuse?

Though mine was filling the tub ahead of a storm so that we could flush commodes if we lost power. Well and septic here.

I know this could be problematic, but everything regarding her is problematic, and this puts her being included in the meal or not entirely on her and her actions. You remember correctly she didn’t want to eat what I cooked. Except sometimes she would sneak and eat it sometimes, as if I wouldn’t notice that the leftovers I thought I’d have for lunch the next day had disappeared lol. Mister and I had a slight run in about that last week, he wanted to get testy because I hadn’t thawed anything out for dinner when he got home from work and I’d been home all day. I politely reminded him that I stopped cooking dinner years ago when his daughters were here, because they always wanted something different and he would eat whatever they wanted, so WTF was I cooking for, unless it was specifically something that I just wanted for myself. After I said it, I asked “Am I lying about what happened”, and he said no. That is really how he became the one that cooked most of the time. If I do cook a meal, I’m not going to concern myself with whether it’s something she wants or not. If she doesn’t want it, I’m good with eating leftovers. I just feel like if I do cook, I should cook enough for her to eat some if she wants to. If she doesn’t want it, that’s on her. And that is with me also saying that if I cook something and it’s nasty to me (since I don’t claim to be the best cook), Imma throw it away myself, hopefully before anyone knows I even cooked it lol, and buy dinner or something. Involving her in preparing dinner is why I feel like Mister and I need to figure things out. We can’t expect her to help prep or whatever if we don’t even know ahead of time what the plan is for dinner.

Well when I recently started the Hello Fresh again, I had to cook it myself, or bug Mister to help me. He doesn’t seem to want to cook much anymore either. We did not even use our grill even once this summer. That is unheard of for us. For years, before I even met him, I used my grill every summer. We used them fairly often every summer since we’ve lived here, and occasionally invited family over for a bbq. Until this summer, when we haven’t used them at all.

This is my plan for future packages, for sure. I talked to her (DD) about it yesterday. It's just annoying and my apt mgmt doesn't care.

One of the tricks I use to get dinner on the table, is to thaw out two or three pieces of meat at the same time. Now you have to use it up and figure out a meal plan. By the time you get through those three things, you will have some leftovers to get to the end of the week.
Let the crock pot be your friend. Beef chuck roast or a pork butt in the crock pot will make dinner while you are away. We cook chicken breast several pounds at a time because we like chicken salad sandwiches or cooked chicken on lettuce salads.
Ground beef is made into patties before it is frozen. This works well for portion control and for cooking from frozen. Two patties make tacos for two people, you get the idea. We also fillet chicken breasts into cutlets and then freeze individual portions. They cook fast on the contact grill for sandwiches or salads.
We have been struggling with wanting to cook this summer too. I blame it on the heat. One more week and we should be moving into soup weather. I love me some soup!
Good luck with your kitchen adventures Pink.

Good luck with your kitchen adventures Pink. Our problem is that we are burnt out on beef roasts, chicken breasts, chicken wings, salmon, salads, pork chops, bbq, all the ways we cook ground beef, broccoli, spinach, carrots, etc. I love potatoes any way they are cooked, and I am even burnt out on them. We need new ways to prepare what we eat, because we are burnt out on the ways we know how to cook it, if that makes sense. I get overwhelmed looking for recipes for something different. Thank you for wishing me good luck.

Pink Cashmere I've been seeing a company called Just Meats recommended. I'm sure it's not cheap but they ship prepared proteins to you. The logic being that is the hardest part of the meal. It might be close to the cost of meal kits or take out.

I have a bazillion cookbooks and in general love cooking.
But there are days when it's yet another freaking decision and I can't get myself to make it.
I fell into that trap during COVID and the last two years with everything going on.
I don't think with fast food. I grunt into the magic speaker and food appears.
But it's expensive and not healthy.
I really relate to the meme that says the hardest part of adulthood is deciding what to have for dinner every day till you die.

The man that I call Mister’s mentor here, is a Muslim. Earlier this week he invited Mister and their other buddy to visit the Mosque he attends today. It was via text, the other guy didn’t respond, but Mister agreed to go. Last night and this morning, he was fretting because he didn’t really want to go. He didn’t think his friend was serious with the invite, but he’d followed up and let Mister know he was serious.
He called me when he left the Mosque and was on his way home, and he was excited about what he’d learned today. I’d already teased him this morning before I went to work and told him he might end up being a Muslim. He said his Mom would roll over in her grave if he did that.
So after he was telling me all about it, I told him I’m halfway scared to be at home tomorrow, because something more than the ceiling fan in our bedroom randomly coming in might happen, like stuff flying off of shelves. I said that because he jokes that it’s his Mom making the ceiling fan come on, so I was saying today that she might do something more extreme to show her displeasure about today.
His parents were those kind of people that thought Muslims are “bad”. One time when I went to their church with Mister, he and I talked after the service, because I didn’t like whatever the preacher had said during his sermon about Muslims. I don’t remember exactly what he said, but it was basically that they are bad and/or evil, and I didn’t like that kind of blanket statement even though I’m not Muslim myself. Mister agreed with me that it was wrong. But that is how his parents thought, so that’s why we joked today about his Mom being mad at him and showing her displeasure.
He said he is going again, because he really enjoyed today. I am okay with that.

This is my parents. Since they’ve both retired, they just eat out most nights. Or leftovers from whatever they didn’t finish at their fave restaurant. Sometimes they have cereal and toast. Or eggs. But legit that’s the extent of their cooking. Can’t say I blame them - making dinner/cooking food is just not worth the effort most nights.

There are a few things I make, then eat the left overs for a few days afterward. But not many. Cooking for one, doesn't bring me much pleasure.

Prepping for the week. Supposedly, we're having work on our front porch done this week. I'm really hoping that's true.
Bill the Dog is driving me nuts. I've actually put him outside since Saturday morning. He's turning 16 this month, but that doesn't give him the right to stand in the threshold of a completely open door from this laundry room to the yard, look up at me, and piss on the laundry room floor. I understand when he can't remember how to get through the doggy door. I understand when he's incontinent. But don't just be an arse.

I got used to eating out for the 2 or 3 months we were moving, getting out of there, and settling in here. I just can't seem to get back in the mode to cook. Well, we can't afford to keep eating out at $40 to $50 a meal or more. And DIL is the same way, she was gone for the summer not cooking, she is like me can't think of what to cook. I suppose we will get back in the groove and I don't understand why its so hard. I am pretty much sick of fast food too and its not good for us anyway.
At noon DD, wanted Taco Belle and a smoothie, little guy wanted a double cheeseburger, fries and a smoothie. He earned it helping us. I didn't want any of it so got a coke. It was over $30. Got home and hubs was hungry, my stomach was upset for some reason and the kids had ate. I had food for sandwiches so he ate that. But I have got to start cooking again. And yet I spent almost $170 for food! I ended up today just eating 2 scrambled eggs. I think part of it is nothing tastes good since covid so hard for me to cook. I will get there because we can't keep spending so much money for take out and groceries.
Tomorrow we are going to get in the garage and see what we can straighten up and organize. We need to take a mattress from the other place to a , the little heater and Xmas tree to Value Village to get rid of those. And paint to recycle, so might as well make a day of it. That will get rid of big items we can't get rid of here. We likely will take those items Thursday. Not sure on Friday, may see if hubs can paint our bedroom ceiling and bathroom. He is supposedly leaving for Indiana this weekend so I'm not asking him to do much each day. I can paint the sidewalls.
I found the website for SS and was able to change hubs mailing address and change banks for his direct deposit, so that is done. I could have done the same for me, but needed to go in for DD, his won't change till Nov, DD's in October. Also found on the site where I can set up for him to speak for me or me for him. I already do for DD. We need to do that as you never know at our age what could come up.
Next he has to change his drivers license, we have his bank account and mine set up. We are becoming citizens of Washington state, doesn't seem real somehow.
2 nights ago hubs, I, and both cats were in bed. They were almost asleep and I was drifting off. I swear I heard 2 raps on a window, thought I was dreaming but the cats heard it and jumped up growling. In a few minutes I heard it again as did they. It scared me, I woke hubs up. We never heard it again, he said maybe a raccoon or something. Never heard it before haven't again, but it really set me on edge. There is nothing behind us but woods and a creek, but I sure heard it. If he hadn't been here I would really have been scared. We fixed one light on the patio, I have the second one ready to go back up, cleaned and everything it is right by that window. I felt so safe here so kind of gave me the creeps.
I got in the spa tub tonight, it felt so good. But the water never did cool off, I felt like I was in a sauna. Opened the window, opened the door, turned on the vent fan, had to put a cold rag on my face and kept adding cold water. He is thinking there may be some kind of recirculating heater function. We found heater 1 and heater 2 in the breaker box and have no idea what that is. I'm going to call the realtor and see if he can find out. Next time I won't add much hot water and more cold and see what happens. I put cleaner in when done and let it circulate, was really a lot of crud in there, will do it again next time.

That tapping on the window would have freaked me out! Years ago, I was staying at Dd1's, with her, while her husband was out of town. We both heard definite tapping on a side door (wood, with mostly glass). She pulled back the curtain and there was a giant raccoon, trying to get inside! It was about 2AM and I was scared to death, until we saw what it was. Stay safe!
