I learned to fish with my mom when little too. I can bait them and clean them, and then fry them up in a pan. We also had them to supplement our diet. We had fish, frog legs, sometimes squirrel, turtle if dad could get one. And mom had rabbit traps, she knew which time of the year it was safe to eat wild rabbit. To me it was all good food, I even liked carp. They have good flavor but have to watch the bones, they are considered bottom feeders though, but still good. If you don't catch them and catfish from clean flowing water they don't taste very good though. I learned how to do all kinds of stuff being poor in my younger years. It makes you more self sufficient and taught me hard work. I don't think that is something grand son will learn. He doesn't want to bait a hook, I do it for him, LOL!
He said he understands Russian but really can't speak much, his mom said its a very hard language to learn to speak.I am so happy they are going to learn cursive, I think that is a big mistake, taking that out of schools.

I am beat. I'm too old to work 12 hour days. (I did have a great day. I saw an old client this morning, and then a sibling of another old client just before I went home). It was so nice that I could just enjoy the kids. We all had some nice giggles (parents too!). Those are the best days. Though, they are long. And I am middle aged. (LOL). Some of my fondest memories of the rare weekend nights I had with the girls (they usually went by their dad on the weekends) was staying up really late, and being so tired that we would just bust out into fits of giggles and laughter. EVERYTHING was funny.

finnime - how is your daughter doing with regard to falling? Better I hope. Axzucena - so thankful the hospital social worker was one of the good ones. It's truly amazing what can be bc accomplished if they know what they are doing and care. I by ad it stop working in 2008 and still miss it. I know that many things have changed plus my memory sux. DD is doing v much better, thanks for asking. She's completed a solid month of PT and had an assessment that she sent to work. She had developed, after some severe health issues years ago, a habit of walking on her toes that was the core of the problem. Her ankles were not strong either. So PT worked on fixing those plus had her wearing the correct footwear. She hasn't fallen since she started PT. She should be back to work soon, maybe next week.

Good morning, fish and fishing aficionados and assorted other invisipeeps of Y Ma'am. Welcome to Friday. I hope your day presents no bumps that you stumble on, but offers fodder for laughter. And that you see a weekend ahead with happy events. We brought Franklin the Dog to DSis's last evening and I am glad we did. There's so much to do to get ready for this weekend's art show, plus I need to bring DD to PT mid-morning. DH wants to get going earlier this afternoon than we really need so he can take pictures of the seals. We will set up in the early morning tomorrow. The show starts at 9:30. The bruise on my jaw and chin from the fall I took last week on the rocks is fading, but still disconcertingly obvious. It does look like I took a punch. Maybe I'll try a little makeup which I never wear over the Arnica that does seem to be fading the bruise. I went fishing a lot as a girl. Our father would bring us, all 5, out into the ocean in an aluminum boat fitted with an outboard motor. I still remember the sounds of the bell buoy way out there. Sweet memories. Yesterday was another clear day for sunrise:

Paging andi9899. What would you do to conceal a bruise on the face? I have some tinted foundation powder, nothing liquid. Do I need to buy something? I don't want to put people off.

We fished a lot, but I don't ever remember eating catch, so we must have done catch and release. In the summer, my brothers and I routinely dug up worms out of the garden, and hopped on our bikes to head to a creek a couple miles away to spend the day fishing and picking wild berries.

The best fish I eat are the ones that DH grills up after a day of fishing. Does not matter what type of fish it is, as long as he does all the work.

I caught the back of my own T-shirt once while trying to fish with DH does that count? The kids found it hysterical. My dad is getting the house sided and replacing the windows. The lady said they offer a steep discount for referral clients which is what we would be. DH was hesitant but I gave him the green light to at least inquire about exactly how much of a discount are we talking here. We're in a position now that we could finance it and not be hurting. Later on down the road we'll be in a position we could pay it off in cash if we wanted. If it is a good enough discount it may be worth it. The flex tape may hold until the end of time but it doesn't look very good.

My sister won't take my special needs niece fishing because she's wild. Meanwhile, I love giving her the autonomy and she's pretty good at it. She can catch them if she wants but more often if the water is clear, she just likes to watch the little fishies nibble the worm off the hook and when I ask her where the worm went as I bait it again, her mostly non-verbal self looks me dead in the eyes and says 'snack' clear as day and then we giggle

I went down a deep philosophical worm hole last night. A post about Freddy Mercury popped up on my Facebook feed. He would have been 78 yesterday. I did not realize he died in 1991.
So then I looked up when ART therapy was brought onto the market. It was brought to market in 1995.
If Mercury had contracted HIV just a few years later than he did he may very well have lived to see his 78th birthday.
It was both disquieting and amazing to think about how short a time span that is between HIV being an automatic death sentence to the possibility of seeing old age.
The more I read about how the HIV epidemic was handled it is just absolutely disgusting. So many more lives could have been saved sooner if we had gotten off our Puritan pedestal about it being a punishment for engaging in a homosexual lifestyle.
I'm going to get political for a second but this is what Republicans want us to go back to in the name of "religious freedom". Many many doctors refused to treat gay men with HIV because they disagreed with the lifestyle and it lead to so much unnecessary suffering and death. Just so those doctors could claim the moral high ground.
And this was all in my lifetime. That is the REALLY sobering part for me.

One of my former PCPs had a practice comprised in significant part of treating HIV/AIDS patients in the 80s and 90s before he retired. He was a very compassionate man. I loved him for it.

How was the castle? I’ve been in one Irish castle for a music performance but it was quite small. Was it beautiful? Gloomy? Nice grounds? I was at a business meeting in a small Scottish castle on Loch Lomand. Dining room , bar and lounge were cozy and comfortable with nice oriental rugs, paintings. Bedrooms were fine with my attached bath up a few stairs. There was a walled in garden that was lovely. I very much enjoyed staying there Bedrooms were gorgeous. Fireplace included snd very comfortable bath. The bed was a full king with fabulous linens. The layout of the hotel was kind of wonky and the rooms had no numbers but names. We were in the Barrie room, my niece (the one getting married) stayed in the Presidential suite which was larger than the first floor of our house! Biggest problem was trying to figure out where to plug in adapters to charge electronics. I’d definitely stay there again.

I'm always surprised at the number of folks that don't realize we haven't really moved forward all that much. ETA: Thank you. I needed a place to say that today that was a bit more appropropriate than where I'd like to say it.

Have been on phone getting DD drug coverage, guy was having computer problems so gave me his number and extension to call back. I will feel better when that is done. That is her big expense. I told hubs if she is hospitalized we will just have to pay $2800 as the deductable, but she hasn't been hospitalized for a lot of years. I'm going to the school with DIL. Will go to the parent/teacher conference with her as son is gone for the week,so that will help them. I'm still sleeping around 12 hours a night, not sure when that will change. WA does not have good coverage when you need gap coverage via disability. Getting prescription coverage isn’t an issue….i only paid about $15/mo for mine. There are only 2 plans in WA that will cover you if you have Medicare through disability snd are under 25. There is an HMO plan which is considerably cheaper, and a PPO plan from BCBS. I had that snd it was about $340/mo. Getting to 65 really increased my options snd saved me about $200. TBH, Apple is the Medicaid offering in WA, snd that would be my absolute last resort. I have not heard good things about access. I have no idea how it acts as a secondary (or primary) to Medicare but know people have a horrible time finding providers.

Finally got Abby's birthday cake ordered. I spaced too long to be able to order from one of the bakeries we usually do in time so I asked her if it was okay to surprise her on design. She gave me a list of the things she likes and told me go for it.
I found the most adorable Stitch cake on Wal-mart's web site.
Then Gwen has yet to let go of the fact I forgot to get her a cake. Which I have not done in the past 13 years but in my defense this year we did go to MoA so I was preoccupied with planning that.
So I ordered her a belated one.
Our Wal-mart makes pretty decent cakes. I will NEVER order from Hy-Vee again after the Disney princess cake fiasco. I could have nominated that one for the Cake Wrecks blog.
I will be taking Abby to the mall tomorrow. It's not the same as going to MoA but we can't afford to do that twice in such a short time frame. She and I will be going just the two of us she wants a shopping day like I do with Gwen.
Then dinner on her actual birthday at the place of her choosing. That is a tradition.

My organizer was a nurse practitioner in another life. I did not know that her dad was a plastic surgeon. Now that her kids are in school, she is back to being a nurse practioner 2 days a week and an organizer 2 days a week. She looked at my nose and told me I should call the surgeon and see if we can do a virtual appointment on Monday. She said my nose looks great and it's obvious I have been following directions. She said I won't be there 5 minutes and that is all I will be told. I will call tomorrow and see if that can happen. Otherwise, I will be driving 30 minutes each way to see a doctor for 5 minutes. She did say he did an excellent job and he is not who she works with. She said she is surprised my skin is already pink, with very little red. So I am happy with the way it is healing. They no longer do virtual so I canceled. I'm not driving an hour for a 5 minute appointment when I'm going to be told it's looking good.

My doctor in Boulder closed his family practice to open a practice that was 95% treating HIV/AIDS patients. He kept a few of his patients and I was one of the ones he kept. He also took on a village in Ghana to treat HIV/AIDS. So many women were infected by unfaithful husbands and the women were giving birth to babies with HIV. He spent more time in Ghana after he retired in the US. He also went to Africa during the ebola crisis. His neighbors in Boulder got his wife kicked out of swimming at the Rec Center while he was in Africa. He took walks at night after he came home because the neighborhood was in hysterics about him being there.

They were telling DH he should demand I quit my job. He said first of all he doesn't DEMAND anything from me because he likes living Second she works in the university across the street. The Biohazard unit is in the hospital on a sealed/secured floor with negative flow doors. If she manages to catch Ebola despite all that it doesn't matter where she works because the human race is going extinct. I would get a similar response if people found out I was working in HIV research. It was freaking 2015 and people were still acting like you can get it from a toilet seat. I had to really evaluate my audience before disclosing any further information than where I worked.

We are hoping the Pittsburgh Steelers have a preseason game in Ireland next season (we are fans, my dad is a season ticket holder, and thry just signed some partnership last year). If they do, I want to plan a week or so to go around Ireland, and everyone would love staying in a castle!

Well, we are parked in Cork for the next few days. Dogassed tired after the wedding activities. I probably drank more the last 3 days than I have the last 3 months!
The wedding officiant gave a Humanist ceremony, and at the beginning, asked us to turn around and introduce yourselves to someone you don’t know. So we did.
Somehow, a quick discussion got on pets and TD said he had a t shirt that says ‘PETA people for eating tasty animals’ and on the back says ‘I like cats, I just can’t eat a whole one’. One of the bride’s friends said ‘oh, people for the ethical treatment of animals’ and I corrected her…and she corrected me. I said ok, and the ceremony started. I later find out she is a card carrying PETA member. Whoops! Apparently, she was the third roommate of the bride and the MOH and requested they give up meat if living together. That didn’t happen!

The castle and grounds are on an island where you need to take a ferry to get to. They have lodges you can stay in, and castle rooms. We stayed in the lodges for 2 nights, castle for one night. We should have paid to stay in the castle the 2 extra nights, but it was worth it to get laundry done at the lodges.

Fixed breakfast, did the bank rec and cleaned toilets. Tried to make appointments but hold times too long so I'll try that later. I'm going to wipe down my purse with leather cleaner and then shower.
I do not have the patience or coordination for fishing. I tried it a couple of times and, if creating monofilament bird nests was an Olympic event, I would medal in that. A friend went fishing years back and a fellow fisherman managed to place his cast right through the end of her nose. EMT's wouldn't try to remove it so she had to go to the ER where they put her under before cutting the hook and pushing the barbs back out the direction they came from. Surprisingly she didn't have a bad scar, but I no longer see fishing pics on her FB, she shoots dove now.

I'm farting around a little on here, since I just got back a couple hours of my day. the vet called to cancel my appointment because their laser machine is down, again. I'm a little annoyed, since I just paid for an 8-visit package after seeing the improvement on LD after the first few sessions. I'm supposed to be going to lunch with S later, that will be fun.

I am supposed to be on PTO. Had an ortho appt followed by an unexpected PT appt. Now I am answering questions on a report that was flawless at 6AM this AM, but the person who I gave edit access to has somehow mucked it up. Lesson learned - keep an original copy.

They sent someone from the CDC (right next door) to the elementary school to talk to the parents because I guess people were freaking out.

Paging andi9899 . What would you do to conceal a bruise on the face? I have some tinted foundation powder, nothing liquid. Do I need to buy something? I don't want to put people off. I got kicked in the face once putting my fussy kid in the stroller. I ended up with a black eye. I went to the clinique counter and had them set me up with products. Ulta would definitely work too. But, if anyone asks about how you got your bruise, tell your story as you got in in pursuit of your photos. Hopefully you can cover it up, so you feel more confident.
