How was the castle? I’ve been in one Irish castle for a music performance but it was quite small. Was it beautiful? Gloomy? Nice grounds? I was at a business meeting in a small Scottish castle on Loch Lomand. Dining room , bar and lounge were cozy and comfortable with nice oriental rugs, paintings. Bedrooms were fine with my attached bath up a few stairs. There was a walled in garden that was lovely. I very much enjoyed staying there

The couch is awesome! It is so soft and we finally got one big enough that four people and two dogs can all sit on it at the same time.

We went to Costco this a.m. with minimal damage to finances. Weather will give us a brief dry out and cool down over the weekend before something boils up in the Gulf next week-maybe just a rain event or maybe something bigger and badder. Chatted with our wonderful mail carrier today; I hadn't seen him in a bit and thought he was on vacay but he was on medical leave after a pit bull jumped the fence and tore the side of his face off. Dog owner is suing him for "antagonizing the dog", he has $$ in medical bills, and he has to deliver mail to that location daily. I'm going to gift myself new frames for my birthday- they are amazing with golden snakes crawling along the earpieces and coiling around the eyes. Snake print on the nose pads too. I have to get a new RX for them so will schedule an appointment for some time in the coming month. Noooooo! Just kidding, because y’all know I don’t like those things. If you like the frames, yayyyy for you getting something you really like.

Got home with bonus teen about 4. Going to bed as soon as I hit post. How do I stop hovering? I don't want to let her out of my sight bc I'm worried she will fall and get hurt...oh and just typing that out made me realize that I'm also likely hovering bc she almost didn't get to come home with us. I forget in my exhausted state if it's Gira or Rae with diabetic kid. How do you make yourself give him space? I went to college with a woman with a seizure disorder. She always requested chairs with arms in each classroom. That way, if she had a seizure, she would be less likely to fall off the chair. There are service dogs that work as seizure alert dogs. They alert the person when a seizure is about to happen so that the person can sit or lie down. I don’t know if that would work with her type of seizure. Hopefully, they can find a helpful medication. Chairs with arms is a good tip. No meds for this type of seizure. Psych did decide to up her anti-depressant a bit to see if that takes the edge off. She is a hell of a lot better than March but also still has too many down days for me to say her meds are working. Takes way too long to get appts with medicaid and then psych focused on sleep which took a couple months but is now sorted out with third med we tried.

I don't usually like anything like this, and I was drawn to them initially because I tend to push back against the stereotypes of aging. But when I put them on, the frame shape really worked for my face. The snake thing is actually pretty subtle and I had to look twice to see what it was. I'm going to schedule my eye exam tomorrow so I can get them soon

They are issues with them but this web site seems to break it down so you can research your options. If one fits her needs it may be worth the investment for your peace of mind. epilepsyfoundation.org.au/understanding-epilepsy/epilepsy-and-seizure-management-tools/seizure-monitors-devices/#:~:text=can%20be%20provided.-,Seizure%20monitors%2C%20which%20are%20sometimes%20called%20alarms%2C%20can%20be%20helpful,of%20mind%20for%20some%20people. Interesting idea and I bookmarked it for this weekend. Trying not to overdo it. Made lots of progress on needed follow up appts. New psychologist is 4 miles away instead of 30 mins downtown plus traffic. Hoping she can link us to new psychiatrist here too. School social worker is a dream and is already working with teachers and school nurse for safety plan. Nurse has several current students with same disorder so I'm hoping she can give us some coaching and maybe one of those students is brave enough to meet with teen and talk. That would be invaluable. Even just being able to tell her there are some same at school was morale boosting for us both.

*Disclaimer - Not meant to be political. Saw a meme that said "If you don't realize 13 marines fighting for your freedom got less recognition than George Floyd, your the problem". It was posted on FB by someone I know to be extremely conservative. I may have commented "YOU'RE".

My organizer was a nurse practitioner in another life. I did not know that her dad was a plastic surgeon. Now that her kids are in school, she is back to being a nurse practioner 2 days a week and an organizer 2 days a week.
She looked at my nose and told me I should call the surgeon and see if we can do a virtual appointment on Monday. She said my nose looks great and it's obvious I have been following directions. She said I won't be there 5 minutes and that is all I will be told. I will call tomorrow and see if that can happen.
Otherwise, I will be driving 30 minutes each way to see a doctor for 5 minutes.
She did say he did an excellent job and he is not who she works with. She said she is surprised my skin is already pink, with very little red.
So I am happy with the way it is healing.

azucena, I can't remember all the details about BT but I've gotten the gist of it over time. I wonder if you ever said anything about whether she could become an emancipated minor. My understanding is that she and her mother can still maintain a relationship but the mother can't exercise parental control over the child. I wonder whether this would improve things like having Medicaid in her own name, etc. You and your family deserve major kudos for helping her out. Not just the day to day improvement in BT's life compared to her life at home, but seeing responsible role models living a productive, non-chaotic life is doing so much for her. You are showing her another way. One of the problems with those who live chaotic lives is that their children can grow up thinking it's normal to live that way and the cycle is perpetuated. Just being there is immensely important. And you do so much more for her. Because missouri is a red state we can't get emancipated minor law passed. Legal aid is working on next steps but it's complicated with no easy answers. DH grew up in poverty with disabled parents and an alcoholic father so we have both seen how much role models helped save and shape him.

One of my fears going back to school after something like this would be that I am all alone and nobody knows what I have experienced. It would be great if she has someone who has been through something similar. I am sorry that Missouri is backwards about minor emancipation. My guess is Iowa is the same way.

Also, I think my cousin's friend is trying to date me and I hope I'm wrong and don't have to tell him no. I've known this guy forever. They've been friends since we were kids. So a few weeks ago we were at my parents house and we were talking about going to a Chiefs game. Fine. Next thing I know my cousin sends each of us the other's phone number. We go to said Chiefs game with them and tailgate together. Because my cousin and his wife already have seats, we sit together elsewhere. Fine. That's the end of it. Fast forward to this past weekend and I've spent the entire weekend with family because they were in town for my grandma's birthday. The friend was there the whole time. Cool. On Monday night we're all at a bar and I want to get food to go, so I stay for one more beer while I wait for my food. Friend stays and family leaves. While we're waiting for food, friend is telling me about how he and his wife are over. Yes, I said wife. Said food comes we part ways. Yesterday he texts me and asks me if I have plans for tonight's Chiefs game to which I said I'll be at the gym until 7 so planned to watch it at home by myself. Friend says "cool, just didn't know if you were interested going out to watch it." Am I reading to much into this? First of all, I don't date married men. Second, dude's not my type. Third, he my cousin's best friend, so a hard no. If there is a next time add in somewhere this is one of the reasons I love being single. The freedom to do whatever and whenever I want. Not planning to ever giving that up. Then continue as usual. Slip things like that in whenever possible and you may avoid having to say "no" That is definitely the plan! It's also not unusual for me to say something like that either.

I am currently considering condoning andi’s offer to slap some people upside their heads.
Mister and I have been getting along for the most part, for a while now. The habit we got into over the last few months, of eating out or having meals delivered, doesn’t work so well now that YD is here. I could be all kinds of wrong about it, but even though I have bought whatever Mister wanted when I’ve ordered food to be delivered over the last few months, I am not willing to include YD.
The last, worst war, started because of having food delivered, and I still have not forgotten with that proposed food order or all the shit that was said during the war, so whether I’m right or wrong, I am not spending my money on food being delivered for her. She is supposed to be away at college at this time anyway, and I don’t like how it happened that she played Mister about that. So if I am being an ass about not wanting to order food for her from restaurants on my dime, I’ll take that, since there IS food in the house that she can cook, meat and vegetables.
Mister swears that he knows and understands SOOOO much about me, but it is very clear that he doesn’t. I am tired of telling him that, so the next time it is a part of a conversation, I’m just going to remind him that he is always telling me that I shouldn’t expect me from him, and I should try to understand and accept who HE is, when he does things differently from how I would do them…. so he should fucking do the same IRT me. I am not HIM, so things don’t affect us the same way…. things that don’t matter much to him, really matter to me. So in my mind, that is the flip side of the same coin he has been playing about how I need to accept him for who he is…… well this is ME, so you gotta accept and deal with that too, if we are going to just sit in our shit and not try to grow and be the best person we can be.
And FTR, I want to grow and be the best person I can be, with or without Mister.
Anyway, that will be a new argument from me, so I will see how that goes whenever it comes up.

Picking up prescriptions yesterday, cvs apparently has two different profiles for me with two different birthdays. I don’t even know how that happened but now they’re just making sh!t up that can go wrong. Whatever. I paid $13.99 that I didn’t need to bc I didn’t even want to deal with it. So when the peanut was born, whoever created her profile in my insurance gave her a new name. Then they decided we had twins: the peanut and the walnut. It took a few months to straighten it out. However, walnut is still in the system. Just not on my insurance card.

I am beat. I'm too old to work 12 hour days.
(I did have a great day. I saw an old client this morning, and then a sibling of another old client just before I went home).
It was so nice that I could just enjoy the kids. We all had some nice giggles (parents too!).
Those are the best days.
Though, they are long.
And I am middle aged. (LOL).

Corn at the market across the street is 12 ears for a dollar. It's really good corn, but what am I supposed to do with a dozen ears? Sushi and I can't eat that many. Sushi loves corn.

Has she moved in with you, now that she's not going to school?

Boil it for a few minutes, chill cut off the cob and freeze. Will be so good.
I enjoyed little guys teacher meeting. They are going to do cursive writing this year. He said he can read it and knows how to write most of the letters but some are hard for him, so they will work on that. He had to go to a reading assessment. They have the 4th grade divided, I'm not sure if its capability or not. But every teacher in that school knows him, LOL! He knows everybody and went up and hugged all the teachers he knew. He went to his reading assessment, they said he reads 120 words per minute. He went back again for another one. The one teacher that he was with for English last year said he was so advanced they were reading novels. I told him if he does not understand a word, stop and look it up. And when he takes latin, he will understand a lot of the word derivatives. He is looking forward to school, but one of his best friends is not in the same class with him this year. We got a placard we can put in the car so if we pick him up we can display it. The teacher was so excited listening to him about his trip to Russia and Turkey. I took them out to lunch, it was really good and we picked up hubs scripts and lunch for he and DD.
Son called and he said just what I figured, you and mom out running around, LOL! I couldn't reach wifey. He was very stressed today, items to be supplied were not there and he was not happy. I let him vent, it helps to have someone listen. I haven't a clue what he is missing or anything, he always just says items he needs. I could no more tell you what he supplies or works with, he is very tight lipped. A necessity for people like him. He never did talk a lot even when growing up.
Hubs is doing ok, like he said just mainly exhausted, he looks better now, so hopefully he will keep doing better.
Like my DIL said, it is nice to have family near, I agree with her.

Oh and I found out DD will also qualify for extra help on her scriipts. He is wanting to enroll her in October for next year, but I'm not sure she has enough pills to wait that long. Some she does, some not.

If you like the frames, yayyyy for you getting something you really like. Apologies pink but gotta tell my fishing story from this weekend before the medical chaos. Family camp at Sabra in the Ozarks is one of my top 5 places on earth. Specifically their fishing cove. Usually lots of the families want to try fishing for the first time and I love helping kids learn. So I'm helping this 5 yr boy and his 7 yr old sis while his mom was watching. Sis catches her first fish with some help. Bro catches his with some help and reeled it in super slowly. He's pulling it up thru tree roots alongside the bank and next thing I know this water snake about the width of my index finger and 6 inches long slinks out of the roots and starts biting the fish. I'm thinking hell no bc I like snakes as much as pink. I'm sliding boy back with my arm, he's yelling cool, hey wait that's my fish. Mom and sis notice at the same time. Sis says nope, drops pole as mom pulls her back. I'm think clear the kids and then cut the fishing line clear down by the reel bc I'm going nowhere near that mess. Next thing this little snake completely steals small bluegill 5 times his width and somehow is unhooked. For the rest of the afternoon folks passing thru fishing were like were you the mom who helped the boy almost catch a snake?! My kids heard about it in arts and crafts and were like that's totally mom helping kids fish but no way is she putting up with snakes lol.

Axzucena - so thankful the hospital social worker was one of the good ones. It's truly amazing what can be bc accomplished if they know what they are doing and care. I by ad it stop working in 2008 and still miss it. I know that many things have changed plus my memory sux.

My dad taught us girls how to fish when we were very young. At the age of six, I could bait the hook, catch the fish, gut the fish, and scale it. We ate a lot of fish. We were very poor, and free food was free food.

We were very poor, and free food was free food. I've been fishing with my mom since at least that young. I don't clean them like she did. Was def free food in the summers to feed the 7 of us. Dd12 can do it all - she caught 28 fish in 4 hours. It's a prime spot. Dd16 usually humors me for an hour. Last summer a friend dared her to video herself taking the fish off and lo and behold she did and now she baits with worm too. I never would have guessed she'd pick that up in the teen yrs. Bonus teen insisted we go fishing on mother's day when my family neglected to plan anything. Her first time. She pulled her first one in so fast it nearly hit her in the face and she fell out of her chair getting away. This time she was taking fish off but no worms for her (yet).

Decent day - one seizure overnight, otherwise good sleep. 2-3 today. I think I caught her coming out of one and then she slept solid for an hour per usual.
Tomorrow I'm escorting her to theater event after school. Gives her something to look fwd to and is the least embarrassing group to seize in front of.
Then I'm handing her off to dh to go to happy hour that i scheduled with other theater parents.

My cell phone died this week as in the screen went black and won't come back. It had been going downhill for several weeks and then last week it developed a green fluorescent stripe which research indicated was a hardware issue and last night it finally gave up the ghost. I'd only had it since February 2021 so 44 months ain't too shabby. Spent two hours w ATT tech activating my old Samsung and moving the SIM card from the dark Pixel 5. Gotta say, those doors are hard to find when they've never been opened and even harder to open when they've been glued in place with years of coffee & soda pop & who knows what else. Now I have to find and get into my Cloud Backups - hope they work. This gives me a few days to decide which cell phone I want. I find it all overwhelming and don't do well with too many choices. It's a big commitment and these days it's for three years! I'd love to hear the good, the bad and the ugly of your phones. Also, any and all recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I freely admit I don't know everything and frankly, these days I'm so out of touch with technology. 😎 DH needed an updated phone and my cell phone battery was always dieing so we got a pair of Samsung A 25s since they were free with the Xfinity promotion running during the Olympics.

Pink - did you find out more about YD college enrollment?
Fwiw, not ordering her dinner sounds like a healthy boundary.
