Bites around the ankles sounds more like fleas to me! Not chiggers! I had one experience with chiggers but I was a kiddo at summer camp.   I've had experience with fleas and it was always around the ankle area.

I told him today to please ask his Mom to stop wrecking my nerves if that’s her playing pranks. For real though, idk what the heck is going on. This is not the first time with the ceiling fan, last year it started spinning by itself twice in the same day. Those times it wasn’t actually on, it stopped spinning by itself. Nothing like that had happened before then. I don’t like it.

Pink, if your house has a "brain/house system" could someone be hacking into it and is enjoying freaking people out?

That is one of my strong boundaries. I don't have dot or echo and I won't get one just incase there is a smartass 12 year old that can hack my wifi and start messing with me. I just don't enjoy having something listening to me 24/7. At least with the cell and computer I know it's possible and I can turn them off as needed.

Y'all know I'm chill with bugs and critters, but the one thing that totally gives me the "ick" is ticks.  Extracting those little monsters is a nightmare.  Back in my horse-owning days, ticks were a huge problem for us humans and our horses too.

Also it could be as simple as power surges on your various power lines. Things will reset or act a certain way sometimes during intermittent surges versus complete power failure.


Pink ceiling fans can spin by themselves if there is sufficient airflow to move them. Just like you can take your hand push the blades, and they will spin for a time. Do you keep your windows open? Do you actively look for cross breezes when you are home?

Oh man.  My stepmom texted me this morning asking if it's ok if they come visit this weekend and if the guest room was available for Saturday night, they want to see the home improvements, hang out on the new deck and see Carrot in his parade on Sunday.  The guest room is most certainly NOT available ever since they gutted the basement back in May.  But, I want them to come so I said I'd either get it useable or they could take my room and I'd sleep in Carrots or take the couch.

Getting the guest room ready or cleaning my room are both daunting tasks. Not sure which one to choose!

I think I've already decided I'm just going to focus on cleaning up my disaster of a room so I'm not embarrassed to have someone use it. I've been storing tons of stuff in there while cleaning out the basement storage room and it looks like something from an episode of Hoarders.  So much needs to be sorted and gone through, but I can just haul stuff to the family room in the basement and get it out of sight.

I don't want to deal with putting the pad and carpet back down and assembling the bed in the guest room when it's just going to have to be taken apart and pulled back again eventually when I get the lower walls re-sheetrocked and the trim put back up...not that I have an immediate plans for doing that.

Usually they get a hotel when they come down for a weekend so it kind of threw me they asked to stay.

I e-mailed the paperwork over to cash out a small annuity mom had, and w-mailed over the paperwork to enroll mom in the Physician Services that visit the AL facility she is in.  Went to the bank on my lunch hour and deposited $244 DS found while going through mom's room.  There were 3 old checks too, but I do not know if I left them at the house, or it them somewhere else, I could not find them.  Checks can be deposited remotely, except they may well be over a year old.  2 were from friends of mom and one is from the State of WI, so I can get them replaced if I need to, just would rather not bother.  

MPL, good luck getting your house in order, if I had unexpected company right now I would absolutely die, as my house needs both decluttering and deep cleaning.

I am having issues with acne right now.  I will have to stop and see if I can buy something to dry my face up a bit.  I think it is stress from everything going on with mom.

IF the user has allowed themselves to be seen online. I remember turning that off back when I first signed up. that said, as a mod I can see the entire profile, which includes most recent online whether you've turned it off or not. if your listed birthday and email address are junk/throwaways, that's what you provided when you signed up. but your IP and last online are valid.

The lamps are tied into the Apple HomeKit, but not the ceiling fan.

I had the same strong reservations as you, but somehow I ended up with HomePods anyway.

Every once in a while somebody will say something in tv that makes the HomePod think somebody is talking to them, and Siri will say “I’m sorry, who is speaking” or something like that, because it’s not my or Mister’s voice. It is still somewhat creepy to me.

The tv wasn’t on when the lamps came on though.

Maybe I should get Mister to change the passwords, just in case.

We have so much to do. I told hubs even after we have gotten rid of so much we are trying to basically combine stuff from 3 houses. More things have to go. We are pitching a lot, and getting stuff here together for their yard sale. Hubs found that Habitat for Humanity will take a lot of our furniture from the other place, they just want pictures first, no problem. They will even make an appointment to pick it up. He said its just to heavy for him to move and I imagine son is down in his back, knowing him.

I need to get busy again, we are making good progress and its slowly getting put away and sorted through even more.

We have figured out some of the dirty walls. I found tea lights in the bathroom, the big one is the worst. They have burned candles in the bath and bedrooms and left smoke on the ceilings. Hubs never would let me burn them because of that. We will have to slowly wash down walls and paint. It will just take time.He bought a combination lock for the little bedroom closet so we can put all the meds and important stuff in there and lock them up like we did at the other house.

The cats are asleep and hubs is taking a nap, think I will too. I'm also cooking a pork roast in the ninja pot and does it smell good. I put some rub on it, yum, yum. But its going to be barbecue.

When it happened last year, our first thought was a draft. But the windows were closed and the HVAC was not running. 

Last week, it actually came on (where you just barely hear a click) and was not just spinning. I turned it off with the remote. Like I said earlier, it is not connected to wifi or anything.

Now that I think about it, the lamps in our bedroom are both plugged into surge protectors so we can plug in chargers for our gadgets. 

I am just really glad that Mister also witnessed the ceiling fan coming in by itself, otherwise I’d be wondering if I was going crazy for real.

So someone I know reported to her bosses that she’d been sexually assaulted at work by another employee. She said one of the managers told the perpetrators’s GF (who works there too) what the victim said happened, and the GF went and confronted the victim, saying she was lying, he wouldn’t do something like that.

The victim says nobody from management has gotten back to her and said anything about what she reported, and she still has to see the perpetrator at work. 

Maybe I’m just stupid, but it seems to me that there’s a few things wrong with that situation. She asked me what should she do next because she is uneasy having to be around him now when she is at work.

That’s way above my pay grade, so I put her in touch with someone more knowledgeable than me. The only advice I had was when she said that 2 other women have accused him of being sexually inappropriate, and I told her to ask those women if they were willing to write statements or be witnesses or whatever, since it sounds like this is a pattern of behavior for him. The person I put her in touch with, was to advise her on who to go to next, since her bosses seem to want to ignore it except for telling people about it, like the GF.

So this is what we’re doing in 2024?

Sexual assault is a form of sexual harassment.  It should be reported to the employer. It takes a while for criminal justice to play things out and the outcome is never certain.  But if sexual harassment is reported to the employer, they'd better act on it and at least investigate. They can be sued if they do nothing.  Maybe ask for guidance from the union steward?

The GF of the woman who was assaulted confronted her and said the assailant was lying?  Some GF!  Is the victim generally truthful?

So we’re going to go over to the new house next week.  I need to bring towels, bedding and some kitchen towels too.  I think I will bring some soap and dish detergent so I don’t have to worry about where they’re packed after the movers unload everything.  I’ll be able to make up the beds that night and not worry about where to sleep.  We’re bringing all the plants with us next week too as the movers won’t take them in the truck.  I need to see about taking a few other things too that the movers won’t take.
