I hope your mom is okay, Cheesy FL-Vol, and that it's nothing more than simple dehydration or maybe a UTI. That rapid decline is scary. Let us know how it goes.

Bonus teen had nightmares so I was up with her for hours overnight. Gonna need all the coffee to get through morning meetings and tour DD12's new school. Then, will take PTO for rest of day.
Wish it were a payday as we are still spending too much. Hope it trails off when the kids go back to school and stop having so much free time to fill.
Gotta sleep before I go enjoy In the Heights at the Muny. Have been looking forward to this one!

Well don’t fully know what is going on with my mom yet. She has been here for a couple of weeks to look at apartments. She drove herself up. Yesterday she got lost getting from an apartment appointment to her hotel. She was distressed enough and complaining of a really bad headache while on the phone with one of my brothers that he decided to call police. I am about 45 minutes from where she was. He was able to get location from her, but when I got there, her car was but she wasn’t. Police had made the decision to send her to the ER. They took her immediately for CT to check for stroke, which looked okay. They also discovered her blood sugar was really low. They are doing EKG today and an MRI. Something is still not right mentally. Shortly before I left to head home, I watched her repeatedly trying to take her compression socks off and they had been take off hours ago. How does one go from having full mental faculty to that in such a short time? I feel like something came along and stole my mom. Infection can cause this in the elderly too. My MIL had a UTI that caused similar symptoms.

Gotta go pick up DS from her trip to MN today. It’s been nice having the house to ourselves the last week.

J is on his first transatlantic trip. They are visiting good friends in Switzerland. They did not tell my sister. Family wise, they only told me and asked me not to tell her where they are.
They put a picture on FB of J on the plane and captioned it "learning to be a frequent flyer". I believe that is a message that visits to the farm will be few and far between. This is a couple who spent summers in Europe before the war in Ukraine and Covid happened. I know NIL wants J to know about his Ukranian heritage if it ever gets safe enough to go there.
Sister never liked that they spent summers in Europe. I don't think she knows that her son had a job offer in London, but there was no offer for NIL. Had their been an offer for her, they would have taken in and be living in London.

Toilets cleaned, towels changed, need to get more bird seed (breeding season is killing me!), and will make a turkey meatloaf for supper. More Olympics to watch tonight.
Crackpot secretary wants to start keeping audio/video of all meetings in her possession. It's obviously CYA and prep to campaign for a position on an opposition slate. She must think we are all Olympic class stupid if we don't know that audio/video is easily altered. She gave herself away when she said, "and of course I would NEVER share it with anyone"

Well eff. Current plans are going to have me celebrating our 17th wedding anniversary in a different state, bc my mother. Will have to see if we can finesse it so we at least get to spend it together. I was going to drive out but we talked about all driving out together as a family then DH and DS flying back for school/work. I suppose we could do the converse fly/drive combo on the other end

Dogsitting for a few hours. I never appreciate how comparatively well behaved PP is until I host another dog. Just went to find out what the rustling was, visitor managed to knock a bag of treats off the shelf. Still better than the other one who went counter surfing for pulled pork (no sauce, thankfully). Both guest pups hopped right up on the guest bed too, to my surprise. I guess I’m a big meanie

Gotta love New York State.
I received a letter yesterday saying I may be due a refund and needed to file a NYS nonresident tax return to see if I’m owed money. This is got the capital gains I got to pay on the sale of dad’s house. Oh, joy.
Had TD pull our 2021 tax return to find out exactly how much we paid in tax. It was about $1000. However, in the folder was a client copy of the NY state nonresident tax form the accountant filed (and charged us for, of course) on our behalf.
So where is that damn tax form and gimme my refund!

This is the last week that I am going to regularly see buildings that I've been seeing for 31 years.
This is where my life unfolded.
Now, not to be too dramatic, but I'll be a 15 minute bus ride away. So I can come back.
But, it's not the same as the daily/weekly reminders of having fun with your friends, work colleagues, walking past the house were your first real college boyfriend lived. And remembering that you've already outlived him. It is happiness, sadness, and gratitude all rolled into one. Or hanging out at the place where you took your picture of your first legal beer at 21. Walking past the building where in the halls, you asked your good friend to be a bridesmaid. This is where we celebrated my babies and cried together over divorces.
How am I going to do this?

Can't help ya. I'm living in the house I grew up in, and pretty much knew even as a kid that it would end up being mine. Owned a different house for several years after I got married, but told my wife, "We're going to end up back here. Hope you don't mind." The neighborhood itself hasn't really changed much, other than going through a couple of generational ownership changes, but the commercial area outside has changed a lot. Still, never leaving. Never want to. Should never have to. Quite happy about that.

You will adjust faster than you expect, especially as you are still able to visit your old area whenever you would like. I moved from AZ to MD when I was 40. For the first two years it would feel completely surreal as I drove through the forest or through the snow. Eventually the sense of unreality faded and it became completely normal to be surrounded by greenery.

chiver78 I thought of you and your adventures in cleaning up the yard before the landscapers mow. After lunch I was behind a truck with the sign "Step Easy Pet Waste Removal" and the motto "We scoop so you don't have to". There's another company advertising on NextDoor with "If they are pooping, we'll be scooping". It's a big business here (no pun intended) with folks that don't want the DIY experience. Depending on your contract, they will actually treat yellow urine areas, torn up grass, and even treat for possible worms let behind.

I haven't seen anything from the office about it yet, but I do intend to push back if they say anything.

They will go over the sidewalks and the driveway and poop would spray everywhere, and they'd have to clean the mower deck had they not spotted it before going to another homeowner's place to do their landscaping. And it sucks because you were given no warning to do different and you work from home.
