At the ER with my mom. She has been here looking at apartments. She is supposed to head home Saturday. Not sure that is going to happen. Oh, I hope she is okay - please keep us posted.

I have spent some of my free time over the last few weeks, going through this thread from the beginning, trying to make sense of a few things in my life. I did not read every single post, but what I have read, confirmed for me that this is an awesome little community, and why I love most of y’all so much. We have been through so many things together here, celebrating wins and offering support through illnesses and losses. Even choosing to come out from behind our anonymous screen names here, to support members that were dealing with something serious. I am grateful to be a part of a community that cares so much for each other, where we offer genuine support and encouragement to each other. I have been reminded while reading, of how you all have been there for me for some years, encouraging me, offering me kind words, honest opinions and advice, guest rooms all across the country if I need a safe place to run away to for a couple of days, 2x4’s to be wielded as necessary, a “pop out of bushes” service as needed, frEEzers and land in a hypothetical way, bail money, and even tough love. I am grateful for all of it, because I can’t imagine what some of the things I’ve been through would’ve been like if I didn’t have you all to talk to about things I don’t talk about IRL, and be heard most importantly, but also get different perspectives, opinions and advice from. I am clearly feeling sentimental or whatever, but I just wanted to tell you all how much I appreciate and value you all and this little community of ours.

I highly recommend a Whirlpool fridge. Going back to 2006, I bought a house with a Whirlpool side by side. Sold the house in 2016. Fridge never needed any repairs. Then I moved into a rental with a Whirlpool side by side. Left the rental after a year and moved into my condo with a Whirlpool French door model with bottom freezer, one year old. During the 5 years there I had one simple repair, a small fan that froze up. I moved that fridge to my new location and gave it to DS and DDIL, whose Whirlpool side by side was still running great but was so old the doors were starting to flake off with rust. I moved into a place with a Whirlpool side by side. It’s 7 years old and never had any repairs. I just bought a new counter depth Whirlpool French door/ bottom freezer model to go in my newly remodeled kitchen. I really needed the counter depth model. The side by side got moved to the garage. Three friends of mine had or still have LG fridges. One just replaced hers with a Whirlpool because they couldn’t get a repairman to work on an LG. Another friend found a repairman but he told her if it broke down again to forget it and buy a Whirlpool. The third friend bought an LG with an extended warranty. She had 3 breakdowns in the first 3 years. I also have a friend with a Samsung fridge. The ice maker hasn’t worked for the longest time. Her husband could fix it but they can’t get the part.
Don’t buy a fridge from a manufacturer that makes TVs or cell phones.

My 3’ hydrangea that lives on our front deck just got deered. The damn deer ate all the blossoms and leaves down to nubs. The deer had to go up the 4 steps to the deck to munch down on it.

We have a GE in the Indiana house and almost the same exact one in the new house, I have been happy with it. But we added air holes to the area it was backed into and I think maybe the other burned up by getting to hot. I'm going to have hubs pull this one out and I will clean the fins and all and check it can breathe too, it does make a difference.
I unpacked quite a few boxes and did put some in the office shelving area that we will need to go through later. Our bathroom storage for medicine cabinets are small so 2 boxes went in that closet. I told hubs check in those before buying any bathroom products. Later we will add bigger cabinets in those, but right now just trying to get in. Hubs washed down DD's room and we bought lavender paint for it. It's darker than I would have chosen, hubs said let her have it, so we did. We bought 2 new blinds, the wide ones are $50 each but I like them. They have these so they cover 3/4's of the window only, the top section is open. A lot of the houses out there have them like that, I really like it. We need some more blinds but wanted to make sure these were the right ones first and they are. Hubs is putting up new curtain brackets and poles too, he said they didn't put these up right. I will vac those 2 rooms really well. I imagine we will put in hardwood. By hubs putting ours in at the house we spent over $8k for the wood and nothing for installation, he does a super job and we would rather have it anyway. It won't be cheap but we won't have to worry about changing it again either. It might be next summer but will before if we can.
The cats are doing great, we have been letting them out. I don't know how they know our yard but they are staying in it. There are so many mice and things they don't have to go far so maybe that helps. And Tig stays in more than Smoke, but Smokey comes when I call him so that is good. We have met several people and so far just super nice folks. Hubs seems very happy, he likes talking to people and teasing also so has a good time. He said today, this is all the house and yard we need. He has given up so much that him saying that is so nice, but maybe he is realizing too.
Our other couch and half chair look very nice in sons house, I'm happy he wanted them. This couch is a little smaller and will fit better. I want to take this other stuff and donate it. Hubs wants me to try and sell it in the garage sale over there but I don't want to have to keep wrestling it around. I'm just done.
It was hot today but we didn't do bad it wasn't all that hot in there. Hubs can't get over the fact we can have doors and windows open and no bugs, I can't either
Have to think of dinner tonight, I may have chicken noodle soup and DD tomato and hubs maybe a cheeseburger. Will see, there is other stuff in there we can heat up.

As usual, you all are miles ahead of me!
I bought my first Whirlpool side-by-side in 1998, the year I had my last son. I had to replace it in fall of 2020, when Covid was causing all the appliance shortages nationwide. Our local Lowe's had one Whirlpool in stock and I snapped it up. It's slightly smaller than the refrigerator it replaced, but I do like it. It's only been a few years but it runs just fine (knock on wood).
I hope everyone had fun birthdays and anniversaries.
Gira - congrats on tomorrow being your last day at your job. I know it's been very hard on you. You deserve the good things that come next!
Drama - you are next! Good luck!

So, back to my regularly scheduled programming , I am pondering (not really though) another situation. Mister and I both got burned out with food a few months ago, and we have mostly been eating out and ordering dinner to be delivered. I can’t remember the last time either of us seriously bought groceries. I started Hello Fresh again about a month ago, to get some easy meals to give us some ideas and to help us get out of the rut we’ve been in. I pay for it, a d it is 2 servings, 3 meals/week. Now YD is back. The first day she came back, we ordered pizza, Mister paid for it. We had leftover pizza the next day. Yesterday, I ordered from a Mexican restaurant and asked Mister what he and YD would like. He told me one thing, and I didn’t know if that was for him or for YD. Today, I cooked one of the Hello Fresh meals from the delivery Monday. The Hello Fresh meals are probably normal portions of food that we should eat, but from the beginning, after we eat them, we are both looking crazy wondering what’s really for dinner lol. So they definitely aren’t enough to stretch for 3 people. So today I decided that I’m not going out of my way to include YD in my plans for dinner, and I’m definitely not going to spend my own money to provide dinner for her. She was grown enough to say and do all the shit she’s said and done, she is grown enough to cook herself something to eat. There is frozen chicken breasts, thighs and wings, frozen ground beef and roasts, frozen pork chops, and vegetables, and canned vegetables in the pantry, and I have no problem with her cooking any of it. If I do cook dinner, I will cook enough to share with her, because I don’t know how to cook anything for just 2 people anyway, and there are always leftovers, but I’m not going out of my way to make sure she has dinner anymore. That’s what started the last war, ordering something from Lenny’s and she ordered her stuff on her own, using Mister’s CC, instead of telling me what she wanted, like her Dad told her to, so I could order it and use my rewards to get a free sandwich to take to work for my lunch the next day. So today, I cooked some of the Hello Fresh stuff for Mister to have when he got home after he worked longer than usual. The other portion of the Hello Fresh meal, I put up for me to take for my lunch tomorrow, I still have leftovers from the food I ordered yesterday, to eat tonight. YD hasn’t done anything productive while she’s been on break from college this summer. Since she came here, she’s been holed up in her bedroom as usual, I’ve only seen her twice. So she has plenty of time to cook herself something to eat. The night they acted like maniacs with Mister, she was yelling that if she hadn’t ordered food from Lenny’s, she would’ve been hungry and she hadn’t eaten all day. Which was bullshit, she was hungry by choice because there was breakfast food like sausage, bacon, eggs and biscuits in the kitchen, and a lot of other stuff she could’ve cooked during the day for dinner. And Mister was good with paying for what she wanted from Lenny’s that evening, he only asked her to tell me what she wanted so I could order it and use my rewards for something I wanted. So now, Mister is on his own if he wants to figure out dinner for her, now that she has graced us with her presence in our home again. I can stop the Hello Fresh meals, since they are only for 2 people and I’m not willing to pay more for a 3rd person. Imma eat regardless.

A big THANK YOU to everyone who took the time to respond to my Whirlpool question!! Knowing the unanimous opinions consider it to be a reliable appliance makes my decision making a lot easier.

I'm ranking again tomorrow night at the dojo. My last belt before black and to borrow a phrase from Pink Cashmere I feel some sort of way about it. I wasn't sure I was going to go to but my ego won out on that one and I am. I want more women in higher ranks at my dojo specifically in martial arts in general, but I guess now that I'm getting there I'm not sure I want to be a higher ranked women in martial arts. Not that I want to give it up, but there's some stuff that comes with it that I don't want to deal with. We have as little machismo as possible I think where I go, but still lots of men get weird with women potentially outranking them. Add in that I started at 38 without any prior experience. There is no question that I've put in the time and my improvement is impressive. But I'm never going to be like the people who started as kids, or the military/police who actually use these techniques. Typing it all out though the mansplainers that I think are in my head aren't the best students let alone instructors. I need to give that more thought on why I'm letting a fear of not being good enough in a freaking hobby take up so much head space.

Black belt means you hit a certain level of skill in that martial art. No more no less. And if you have that skill, knowing that you only need to take the test to certify it ... What's the benefit of not doing it? What is the benefit of doing the test and having a visible symbol you are at that skill level?

I have huge issues with police (corrupt, systemic racism) and military (corrupt treatment of women) so I'm obviously not trying to emulate them, but do I want the skills to know I can confidently defend myself and others - yes, absolutely. After training for years the people who frequently have that are ones who have trained for decades and/or have real world application. It's said kind of jokingly that you're a beginner for the first 25 years of practice. But it's more true than funny. It's weird to be a high ranking beginner. I'm not going to stop training, I'm just having feelings about it. Again - I've put in my time and my progress is there. But still weird. It isn't even a test, and I'm not getting a black belt tomorrow. I'm getting the last belt before my black belt. But we don't have to perform or compete. None of my feelings are about the rank advancement itself. It's navigating space in class afterwards.

Well don’t fully know what is going on with my mom yet.
She has been here for a couple of weeks to look at apartments. She drove herself up.
Yesterday she got lost getting from an apartment appointment to her hotel. She was distressed enough and complaining of a really bad headache while on the phone with one of my brothers that he decided to call police. I am about 45 minutes from where she was. He was able to get location from her, but when I got there, her car was but she wasn’t.
Police had made the decision to send her to the ER. They took her immediately for CT to check for stroke, which looked okay. They also discovered her blood sugar was really low. They are doing EKG today and an MRI. Something is still not right mentally. Shortly before I left to head home, I watched her repeatedly trying to take her compression socks off and they had been take off hours ago.
How does one go from having full mental faculty to that in such a short time?
I feel like something came along and stole my mom.

That sounds frightening. Hugs. ♡

How does one go from having full mental faculty to that in such a short time? I feel like something came along and stole my mom. I'm so sorry. I hope they will be able to figure it out soon. That sounds frightening. Hugs. ♡ Thank you. DH and I were commenting between ourselves last weekend, that she looks more frail than she did when I saw her in March, but that her mind was still very sharp. Now I am so worried about that. We'll see how things play out today. They had a very hard time getting a vein for her IV, so she is bruised all over her hands and arms.
