I think this one has potential. I like this kitchen more than I've liked some of the other kitchens. I do like the outside of the house. I'd have to experience the layout. I feel like there are bedrooms everywhere, and not much public living space. Why is it so cheap? I wonder if it is a modular. The beams and the placement of the light fixtures in the common rooms along with vaulted ceilings are giving me a modular vibe. That room with beams is at the back of the house. That is an addition to the original house. The other clue to it being an addition is the step-down into that area.

And the step-down is what would make it a no for me as I am a major klutz and this would be a disaster from the start. Other than that, I like this one a lot

I had two difference houses in Colorado with crawl spaces and now way could I have gotten in there during a storm. It was definitely crawling. Not sure if I could even have sat in either of them. One was easy to access if it was ever needed. I never had to have anything done where a repairman had to go in the crawl space. I do like the last one. The driveway would need to be replaced. Andi, tell us about the shower in the bathroom!

How ghetto is ghetto? Because from the pictures, it didn't look ghetto. Of course, when I hear ghetto, I think inner city Milwaukee, with houses boarded up, falling down, that the city is selling for like 60K. We lived in the ghetto in our current city from 24-34. It wasn't like inner city Milwaukee ghetto. We've move out of ghetto, and we're a few blocks away from something in between the ghetto and just fine. I always "drive" around in street view to get a feel for the area. It looks like an area people are fixing up houses, but it's a hodge podge. Within a block of that house in both directions there are boarded up houses and ones with bars on the windows and doors. I wouldn't pick anywhere remotely ghetto either, especially for a forever house, if the whole reason I was camped out in an apartment was to get away from the gun shots every night at my old place.

The outside looks pretty rough. That addition looks like its made with 4 X 8 sheets of plywood or something. Hmmm, it says built in 1955, I would worry about the foundation to and the roof looks old. As hubs says inside you can cover up a lot with paint and new items. I would want it thoroughly inspected.

I didn't get up till 11 and I'm so tired. Decided to do nothing today but the laundry and I need to go to the grocer. I'm just weak, told hubs I'm just wiped out no energy at all. I'm going to use DD's wheelchair to take the cat post to the car and the litter box. And at the grocer use the electric cart again. Also I may just go back to sleep for awhile. This covid is whipping my butt, never had it before and couldn't imagine what it does to your body. And my hair is like limp rags, I am losing even more of it again. It looks terrible and I can understand why. Talked with hubs he is about half way up here. He said Smokey howled for the first 5 hours and finally stopped. He let them out in the truck but they won't stay out from under his feet. He had to pull over to get Tigger out and he jumped out of the truck. Hubs said he went to the other side and called him and he came and he put him back in. I said they will panick and get lost. He said nope, they won't get away from the truck. Like he said after the furniture was gone they both knew something was wrong. I asked what they are doing if he stops to nap, he said no problem then, they get in the cages so that's good. The poor things have no idea what is going on, but must think it is really bad. Good thing he has been around them a lot or it would be even worse. So when he gets here we are taking them to the new house. They will have furniture that has their smell on it and can get used to the place. I may go over and spend the night with them there. I was talking on the phone and think one of them heard me and meowed. But for now at almost 2, I'm thinking a nap. Just tired and beat up. Later all. You are too sick for this. It is time to hire people, to clean, paint, etc. If your DH doesn't like the progress let him do it. I hope you feel better soon.

A crawl space is NOT a substitute for a basement. There’s just enough space to crawl through and it’s often wet especially in a storm. It depends. A crawl space can be anything from 2 feet high with dirt floor and pillars to 6 feet tall and cement and nice, just...short. They can't technically call them basements (at least not here) unless the ceiling is a minimum of 8 feet. I got new neighbors a couple miles down the road from me last summer that just put in a cinder block crawl space. They are two feet below grade and two feet above with the blocks and it has a poured cement floor. I'm 5'5" and can walk in it bent over. Not ideal, but fine for the occasional tornado run.

Hubs told me not to do anything. I got the place clean. Of course I didn't get the walls washed down, but the kitchen is clean, and the cabinets inside in there. And most of the kitchen items are put away. I did get the boxes that are emptied put up and in the cans so hubs can get more in the garage, it's pretty well empty. He knows he has a lot to do. He said he will be here about 2 weeks to help me. The biggest detterent is no AC. It is 90 out right now and comfy in here. The kitties will be ok in there, I will open the hobby room door for them. It has a concrete floor and is the coolest room in the house, they won't mind that. They have floor length windows to look out of and patio doors so can see all over. And I may stay with them a night or two so they can get comfy. Even if we scheduled AC installation it would likely be too late to help this year. They have our beds and some furniture there with our scents on them so that should help my boys.
We need to clean here on Monday for a showing Tuesday, so adds more work.
DD and I just aren't eating much, I'm not worried about my weight but am hers. I've lost 6 pounds from 152 to 146. I'm pretty sure she is about 118 and that's low enough but we just don't have much appetite. I need to weigh her and make sure she isn't to low. I did get her a subway last night and cookies, I'm sure not worried about her eating fattening things right now. But now I also have to cook for hubs. I just can't imagine anything making you this weak. Maybe I'll fix her spaghetti tonight, I think she will eat that and will add meat to it so she has more protein.
Going to give hubs a call. I do feel some better after sleeping this afternoon, not as weak, but still just dropping the scratching post, litter box, and some food at the house. And going to Safeway I guess to pick up water and a few things. I sure like the taste of the water at the new house so won't be buying bottled water for that.
You know, I'm thinking of getting rid of my Noritake China and just using my china cabinet to display my glassware items. Nowhere to put my display case for my glassware as it fits in a corner and I'm not hanging onto things I cannot use. Might check with DIL first, she might want some of those cases.
Whatever, we will reduce items if we have to, I'm not living in a world of clutter. And will have to think carefully before adding anything more.
This trip hubs got the last of the in house stuff, 2 big cauldrons, and the mower, so that's an accomplishment. DIL is getting the big iron one, it was used to render lard in. The copper one under it I'm guessing was used to boil water in?? I'm using it as a decorative pot. We didn't put it out there being copper, I was afraid someone would steal it. Those came from his folks.

Weird day today. After my half day yesterday I changed out of yoga pants because DH wanted to go out to dinner. He did not acknowledge my change, which pissed me off after we got home.
Today I stopped at Aldi, wearing the dress I did last night - it's not at all fancy. I always park far away from other people. When I came out there was a truck parked right next to me - the whole lane was empty and our driver side doors where right next to each other. That put me on high alert. As I was putting my bag in the back another truck passed behind me and slowed down. That guy commented on my dress, I said I appreciated it, and he said I appreciate voluptuous women. He then drive off slowly, most likely giving me a chance to engage. It was creepy but he may have saved me from a bad situation.
This is life as a woman.
DH and I also went to the gas station near home for ice cream a bit ago. We separated while looking at different things and when DH caught up to me he found another guy talkng me up. I reiterated that this happens ALL THE TIME.
I don't think I'm all that but it is nice to know that some people think so. And it was nice for DH to see it in person.

Annoyed I spent over $50 on a Brita pitcher and filters and I still don't like to drink water. All the reviews say "the water tastes so much better!". Uh...no...it tastes exactly the same as it does out of the faucet...like water. Oh well, at least I'm trying now. I have three diet apps going at the same time and they're all yelling at me about not drinking enough water. I may have gone a little overboard in joining diet plans.

One of my former coworkers used to have a pitcher in her fridge with some cutup citrus slices to flavor the water. lemon, lime, orange or grapefruit all work together and separately. Also, you can put in sprigs of herbs in the water to help flavor it. I liked buying mint for that. And maybe you have naturally good water. A Brita would help where I am as I do not have great water.

While we were poking around at the "little" neighborhood grocery store this morning, I found frozen turkey drumsticks so I grabbed a package of them to do in the pressure cooker. It's impossible to find turkey parts except at Thanksgiving so I am excited. They also had a lot of parts I don't use, smoked turkey and pork neck bones, and fresh (not pickled) pigs' feet. And 5 lb bags of frozen tripe - for menudo I'm thinking. I love this store so much. The manager was wet mopping all the floors when we went in, the place is so clean it squeaks. I don't know where they get their produce, probably neighborhood farmers, but the stuff is super fresh and a huge variety. I got broccoli that I swear was growing yesterday. The immediate neighborhood is mixed Asian/Hispanic/Jewish and the selection reflect it. You need kosher-they got it, you need Hispanic-they got it, you want some Asian veggies and fresh herbs, they got 'em too.

I joked with my friends that I only brought cash to shop there, b/c I wasn't allowed unsupervised with an available credit card! haha. anyway, the last generation decided to retire in his 80s and the kids didn't want to take over. they would have been the 5th or 6th generation had they continued. so, I'm okay not still living in the crowded city, if Russo's isn't there anymore.

Just talked to hubs, he said he had to smack the cats twice so they would stay away from his feet driving, but he said that did it and now they aren't. Yep, could have a wreck with them doing that. He said Tig was asleep in his cage and Smoke is laying on the console with his head hanging over the front and both front paws anchored in the cupholders so he won't fall off, and he is sound asleep too. Sounds like they and hubs have come to an understanding, LOL!
He said he will likely be here around 4 tomorrow afternoon.

MPL this is just a suggestion but try Hint water. I cut Diet Pepsi cold Turkey by drinking it. I like you, am trying to eat healthy and I despise plain water. Also maybe seltzer. I like Waterloo.

Those came from his folks. Check with Replacements.com to sell your china. They don't pay a lot, but it's better than nothing. I used them when we ditched our old set. During our 2015 remodel we got rid of any and all dinnerware we don't use on a regular basis with the exception of the sterling silver flatware and an antique sake set. The silverware fits in one storage box lined with anti-tarnish cloth and sits on a closet shelf. We've collected it since the 70's and have almost 8 complete place settings which makes it one of our best financial investments. Copper cauldrons were (and still are) often used to render down sugar cane for cane syrup.

I always get a giggle or two about the produce labels which are what you might expect from a non-Asian produce manager labeling Asian veggies and herbs. Fortunately, I read fluent "Houston" which encompasses everything. I'm sorry to hear that Russo's isn't there anymore, but that is the story of so many great businesses when the newer generation doesn't want to follow that path. I get it, but it's often their loss and ours.

Dd12's bday party drink mix-ins bar is a huge hit. DD16 ended up having friends over too and the teens became the taste testers. Three of the theater guys are taking the ranking system very seriously and also suggesting the most hilarious names. Then it became about getting the worst score and dd pulled out the lemon juice and another ground up takis.
The edible glitter spay is a huge hit and is being used on everything from strawberries to pizza. One tween might have some intensity poops soontakes.
Meanwhile dh and bonus teen have a long awaited date night to see Kevin Hart.

We are back home from cruising. It was fun.
We went to Traders Joe. I’d seen you all talk about that store here, and had never heard of it elsewhere. I discovered there was one in a suburb near me at the beginning of the pandemic because I went to The Container Store next to it.
Unfortunately, I forgot what you all have said was so great about those stores, so I wasn’t really impressed.
After we left, Mister said “you know when we were looking at the crackers, you were pointing at some, but it was a white couple between you and the crackers, so it looked like you were pointing at them when you asked ‘what kind of crackers are those’”. I wasn’t even paying attention to who was around me, and certainly didn’t do that on purpose. He said we were lucky we didn’t have to fight. I laughed and said if they thought I was calling them crackers when there was a whole shelf of crackers behind them, that I was pointing toward, they would’ve deserved to get beat up.
After that we drove down a street toward downtown, and oohed and ahhed over the big gorgeous houses. He didn’t like all the traffic downtown, so he bailed on cruising downtown.
We stopped at Gus’s Fried Chicken because I had a taste for it. I went outside while we were waiting on our order to go, and one of the employees who sounded like he was a manager there, struck up a conversation with me. He’s from California, has lived here for 19 years, and is moving back to California in 4 weeks. I enjoyed talking to him. When Mister came out with the food, he told Mister he liked his car, and that he’s had 3 Mustangs. He told Mister he turbo charged his last Mustang (Idk what that means) and he still has various parts brand new in the box that he was going to put on his car, but he totaled the car when he passed out driving it one day. He named all the parts and told Mister if he was interested in any of them, he’d sell them to him cheap just so he doesn’t have to have to try to sell them after he moves back to California.
When we were leaving, Mister said “you just make friends everywhere you go don’t you” (not in a nasty way), and I said not all the time, but I do enjoy hearing people’s stories when they start a conversation with me. The lady that took our order inside the restaurant said that she’d recently moved here from Ghana, and if she hadn’t been busy with other customers, I probably would’ve started a conversation with her, because I was curious about how she ended up here, of all places.
We came home after that.

Man oh man, do I miss Gus's. We used to drive out to the original one before they opened the one downtown.

Have you considered buying a portable air conditioner for the new place? You could pick one up for $200-$400. Use it there now to at least cool a room or 2, then hubby could use it in his garage or somewhere later.

Man oh man, do I miss Gus's. We used to drive out to the original one before they opened the one downtown. Where was the original one? I think I’ve always thought the one downtown was the original one, but I remember reading something about the restaurants years ago, and I have forgotten most of what I read back then. Mister is not really a fan, he thinks the chicken is too spicey. It does have a little bitty kick to it, but not too much imo. And that’s with me not really liking spicy food. If I promise to take you to Gus’s will you come back to visit?

I left out that there was a man sitting in the truck parked next to my vehicle.

There was a Trader Joe's near my hotel this week and we also hit up Whole Foods. I miss having so many options. My county has neither and the parking lot for the nearest Trader Joe's is a death trap. I used to venture to the next county occasionally but when covid started and stock was unpredictable it wasn't worth the drive.

Went out for breakfast this morning, to the diner in Ferndale. I got my biscuits and gravy fix, I’ll be good for awhile.
It’s nice having the house to ourselves again, my sister doesn’t get back until next Friday. In the meantime, her daughters get her!
The niece getting married in Ireland was bringing her own photographer because she ‘liked her aesthetic’. The deal was niece was paying for her plane ticket and hotel. Niece bought her plane ticket, and the next day the photographer called her to tell her that she just found out she’s pregnant and can’t do it. I’m sure that’s the last thing niece needed a month before the wedding. I think her photographer, at the very least needs to reimburse niece for the plane ticket.

The place is nuts, parking is crazy and I lack the patience to deal with crazy. We are supposed to be getting a second store. There is a Texas Roadhouse under construction right now, and I think we are also supposed to pick up a Chick fil a. I’d prefer a Cane’s. I think there are a few more chains in the plans too.

There is a Sprouts less than 5 minutes from where I live now. But I have been disappointed with their produce so many times, that I feel like I might as well just do all of my shopping at the grocery store across the street. There is a “Farmers Market” store that’s not far from me, and it is like an international food market. They sell food that people in other parts of the world eat. Aside from the produce aisles with vegetables and fruits I’m not familiar with, they have aisles stocked with things from other countries around the world, and the name of the product or the ingredients aren’t always in English. Mister loves that store lol.
