I'm feeling better. I was going to go to the house and work this morning. But I procrastinated and then got sleepy so lay down about 1 and slept till 3. DD and I went over about 3ish and I worked for about 21/2 hours. I unloaded at least 12 boxes. I hung up clothes on the racks in the hobby room, put away some more kitchen items, and found some shoes. I need to find the boxes with more hangers in them so had to fold some clothes. I also put what cardboard I could in the 2 trash cans. I have lots of boxes I can give to someone moving. Opened the doors and turned on the fans, it was about 84 in there. I hope hubs gets AC in there, that is miserable trying to work. I saw when we got home it was 94 out. I need to be able to separate what goes where and that will help. Quite a few of the boxes didn't have a lot in them. Like my grain mill and some plastic containers was all that was in one, so progress went fast. I have 2 more cabinets to clean. I don't want to put all this in the bedrooms as they need painted. Need to get a sprinkler for the lawn, it is looking rough. Hoping its not so hot tomorrow. I sure like the taste of the city water there. it's good. Time for bed, night all. I don't know if where you are now is the same as Seattle, or whether this is merely a case of imprecise language, but you may want to be careful here. Seattle has banned putting recyclables in garbage, and you could be warned and later fined if there is too much of it in your garbage container. I would check on what the rules are where you are before actually putting cardboard in trash cans for pickup. Seattle for example provides each account separate containers for garbage, recycling, and yard waste. Rates for garbage and yard waste (including compostables such as food waste and paper towels) depend on the size of the container you choose, while recycling is free. Again, if you do not yet have those services set up and have not yet checked on the rules in your area, I would be careful. If you are using the trash cans simply to transport all of your cardboard to a recycling facility, you can probably get it disposed of for free there too.

Good morning, grilling enthusiast invisipeeps, evaluating prices for grills and accoutrements. Welcome to Friday. I hope your day unfolds easily and slips like an expensive comfortable robe over you. I hope you have a/c as called for that works effectively, and that imbibing if you indulge is an option. I also grew up in homes without air conditioning. It wasn't as hot then plus of course I was younger. My current home has only a window air conditioner. It is enough. Living in a seaside town keeps temperatures generally moderate, plus this is a ranch style home. In Maryland a/c was absolutely necessary for general well being. My essential chore of this day is to try to rectify a f/u of DH's. He was handling the registration for the shows this year except for those by one company whose business it is. The one in Mystic he applied for the juried acceptance and received it, but neglected to actually secure a spot. So we're not confirmed for next weekend after all. It's well over a month past the deadline to sign up and pay. I'm going to call and beg. They may have a cancellation. If not, oh well, I'll cancel the hotel I'd arranged and continue to prepare for the show the weekend after that. It's a bummer, though. Yesterday the sun was visible as it rose over the cove off the bay:

I know you all have been seeing it. I cannot believe the toll work has taken on me (or on the flip side, how affected by work I've been)

DH made us smash burgers for supper. Delicious. Never had them before. Oh they're amazing. I made them once a few months ago, and DS and DH inhaled them.

I woke up to an earthquake, about an hour ago. Only a 2.6 magnitude, but they ALWAYS freak me out.
I really don't want to be up on the 4th floor of a bldg when a big one hits.
It happened at 4:09AM.

Have you been up since the earthquake?

Checking in. Leaving for Michigan today. Staying two nights in hotel rooms and then staying with another friend in Grand Rapids that offered. Lucky me!! My one girlfriend offered but she doesn’t have ac and I stayed in her house one night years ago and almost died from the heat. I don’t know how she does it. I used the excuse of that I needed to meet people early the next day so wanted to get closer to them. I’m not doing Frankenmuth after all. Staying in GR until Wednesday and then heading to N Carolina. I totally get it. DH has family in Iowa who don't "need" air conditioning. The heck you don't! We stayed with one family member many years ago on a hot Summer night, and the house was so hot that I couldn't sleep. Safe travels! Even the two friends I’ve stayed with so far keep their ac uncomfortably high for me but one had a bedroom fan which helps, the other didn’t have the fan so it was just bearable. Slept in ac last night and it was great!!

Oh crud! DH has been exposed to COVID at work. Hopefully, he stays healthy and doesn’t bring it home. I’m taking AIRBORNE and immune support. you better add a head of garlic, silver bullets, and holy water because these new Covid strains aren't messing around! Yes, DD has had a huge upswing in covid in her infectious disease department. New strains, of course.

I'm sitting outside for now, today's going to be stupidly hot and humid at the peak of the day. I want to enjoy the fresh air while I can. here's hoping for a smooth Friday, for all of us.

Poor Gwen. She started her braces yesterday just the top ones. She has an overbite so she needs to wear the top ones for awhile before they introduce the bottom ones in December. We suggested she wait till after the fair but they wouldn't have an appointment till September and she didn't want to wait till school started. She was crying yesterday because her mouth hurt and she decided it was a dumb idea before the fair because she can't eat certain things now. I said honey we warned you but it's too late now. We can't have them taken off and put back on. I was miserable my first week until I adjusted to the sensation of the retainers. I also had really sore lips for awhile and there were several sets that hurt like a mofo. I know how much her teeth bother her just like mine did. I said you need to tell yourself it's worth it in the end. Once she starts seeing results I think she will feel much better I know I did because I got to see the difference. The ortho she went to said she couldn't do Invisalign with Gwen's teeth. Which I am skeptical about given my teeth were much more dramatically crowded (maybe it's her overbite?) but whatever. Gwen wanted traditional anyhow. She was arguing with me that I could take mine out sometimes so I can't relate. I said that's what I was trying to tell you when you were yelling at me about how wrong I was and you needed traditional braces. I said it was your choice and the ortho agreed we can't take it back now. And I can too relate because I could only have the dang things out for a half hour at a time at most. It wasn't till the last few sets I'd pop them out more often. And sometimes they had sharp ass edges on them from where they were removed from the molds. I found using a pair of nail clippers to take the sharp points off really useful.

We still don't have real ac. A window unit on each end of the house and I'm going to add a 3rd to ds room keep everything feeling OK. And apparently keep my in laws away because they don't want to slum it without ac. Almost makes me not want to upgrade.

I know my teeth have been traveling, so I'm sure I'll need to go the Invisalign route at some point.

I told her wait until her bite starts changing. I bit my tongue and cheek SO MANY TIMES. Not to mention food would drop out of my mouth at random because my teeth would miss while trying to chew it up. Right as I would get used to it I would be ready to start another set.

oh, I was a hot mess with that early on. the near-miss that sticks out most in my memory was taking a bite of a sandwich and thinking I'd snapped a lower front tooth in half for how hard I'd crunched it. basically, if was like I'd caught the lower right between the two upper. my sister was with me at the time and was horrified by the noise.
it was definitely a long road for me (over 3y....) but well worth it in the end.

Yep, our cardboard cannot go into garbage but must go into recycle. We have a couple plastic crates where boxes get cut up get put. If we run out of crate space, if you cut up the pieces and put it in a box, recycling leaves the box but takes the cut boxes.

I had traditional braces when I was 12/13. I'm sure they hurt, but I have no memory of the pain now. I loved getting the rubber bands changed, so I could pick the colors! I wore my retainers for 20 years after my braces, but I stopped the top ones after I got a crown and an implant (about 2 years ago). I know they have moved because I get more food stuck in my top teeth now, so I actually just went to on Wednesday to get fitted for a new retainer. No metal trays and pink goo now to make molds - they have a little wand that took photos of everything and they make the retainer based on that! I am actually thrilled that I'll be able to get back to wearing retainers at night. My DH, not so much.

In reality, 85% of summer here the temp is in the 70s, so really not needed. We are about to have several days of 80+° temps. We blow colder night air into the house, close everything up and don’t turn on the stove. It pretty much works for us.

Sigh…..
So we need to take my sister to the rail station to catch her flight to MN. For some reason, I assumed she had a 6:45 flight in the morning, so would need to leave around 2 am. We are meeting friends for lunch at a brewery at 1.
Turns out, her flight is at 6:45 pm. If we leave at 2 to take her to the train, it means we need to bail from lunch. I want to leave at 10, it should get us down and back, but she will need to hang at SeaTac for a few hours. It’s either that, or we put her on the shuttle.
I turned on the news this morning, SeaFair starts today. Seattle’s going to be a mess.

I wear my retainers pretty diligently. My only complaint is they get kinda funky tasting after a bit because they are plastic. I get two new sets a year. Which is perfect because a set usually lasts about six months before it breaks in half.
The only time I don't wear them is if I am sick or have a really bad sinus migraine. The pressure of the retainers on my teeth on top of the sinus swelling is pure agony.

Yeah! The Mystic show is on! They had a late cancellation just yesterday afternoon and I snagged it. So we're good to go next weekend.

$1600 for a Blackstone griddle? Mine was about $200 from Walmart. Yes, for the stainless steel cabinet one. I need one that will stand up to being outdoors year-round and is large enough to cook whole chickens, leg of lamb etc. That's also why I am looking at another Weber grill that I can set up as half grill and half griddle. With that, I wouldn't lose the grill aspect and could still smoke stuff with a smoker box. The cheapest one at WalMart is now $284 plus tax and I think the base would rust out in 2-3 years.

If we run out of crate space, if you cut up the pieces and put it in a box, recycling leaves the box but takes the cut boxes. Cardboard, Newspaper, and Metal stuff are the most recyclable. Plastics 1 and 2 are also decent, but they now say they have to be clean. The other stuff, I often just toss in the garbage now. I really try to recycle the stuff that can be recycled though. It is my little bit for saving the environment. But they recently came out and said plastics that have not been washed can contaminate other recyclables. My DH will toss garbage in with the recyclables, I always did keep a bag in the can, so now I walk the can to my Recycling cart and toss what can go in the recycling cart in the recyclables and they I take the bag of what's left and put it in the garbage.

General Question - When you are shipping something back but need to wait on a label or something, where do you store it for the time being?
Since I don't have a car, nor a printer at home, I need to wait for labels to be sent to me via US mail. When I returned a pair of shoes I just had the box live on the stairs until it was time. This time I am returning something smaller. In this instance socks and might do an exchange at the same time. TBD. If I put it on the stairs I am not sure I will remember it is there because the package is small.
Suggestions?

It can't take more than a few days for that to arrive. Personally, it would just leave it on my kitchen table or countertop.

My "kitchen/DR" table is a nice wooden card table, and my kitchen counter is painfully small as is the kitchen. If I lived in my last home, the kitchen counter would work, as I had at least three times the counter space I have now, and it was a galley style kitchen.
