So, the administrator of the facility came back and said they will accept no changes and as my mother's designated Healthcare POA they expect me to sign. The agreement says I am liable to pay if my mom runs out of funds. When she runs out of funds, we can of course move her somewhere else, but usually any facility wants you to have a minimum of 2 years of self pay before they will admit you. Idk if all facilities will expect me to be personally liable or not. Mom can last at least 8-9 years at initial prices quoted. Mom is not so bad that she needs an immediate placement - we like this facility, it has a good rep, and is very close to DB and also quite close to DS's house. We do worry mom may start wandering (I am not hugely worried about that, she has hip and back pain which will prevent that) but also we are worried she may fall down the basement stairs. One of her friends really does not want us to move her from her house, so she is coming over every day to make sure mom takes her meds. It is very sweet of her to do this, but don't want to put that on her either. I have not personally walked the journey you are on but I feel there's a big gap between the facility's expectations and your actual liability. As NomoreDramaQ1015 , Pink Cashmere , and others have said, some places are very willing to lie in their corporate attempt to intimidate you into accepting financial responsibility for a family member. Yes, a rehab place tried to make Mister sign some papers before they admitted his Aunt. They got irritated when Mister had questions, and even more so when he said he wasn’t signing anything accepting financial responsibility. She lied and said they make sure insurance will cover the stay before they even send those papers out, but started stuttering and sputtering when Mister asked her to email him a copy of whatever she had saying that Medicare would cover the stay100%. She “couldn’t find it” to send him a copy. He refused to sign any of the papers. A couple months later, he got a bill in the mail addressed to him, for almost $3k for the days his Aunt, listed as *patient’s name*on the bill, was there, that her insurance didn’t cover So yes, a lot of these facilities will try to prey on family members that care about the person that needs their services and try to trick them into paying whatever insurance doesn’t cover. And they will straight up lie to coerce the family members, or try to make them feel bad, like they don’t love the person needing care. I think they are low down dirty dogs to resort to those kinds of tactics.

When we went Houston Texans' t-shirt shopping yesterday DH saw a Blackstone Griddle and was sort of hugging and slobbering all over it. I had no idea he even knew what one was, but he's been "researching" it and y'all know what that means when a retired engineer is researching. I'm trying to talk him into a griddle top for our existing (but aging) Weber grill. I don't really care one way or another; like he said, it's just another way to cook the same stuff. Main dif I see is that the juices don't drip down which (1) might change the flavor a bit and (2) would certainly eliminate flare-ups. Thoughts from the hive mind, please.

Good news about jerseyguy, jerseygirl. Glad for you. Thank you! and thanks to all who ‘liked’ I got really good news from my oncologist. He said the PET scan was absolutely clear, no sign of cancer at all So I celebrated by buying a new dress, pretty maroon and lilac pattern with a flared skirt. Now where will I wear it??

I have a Blackstone, I'd say go for it if your grill is aging. as far as juices not dripping, there is a slit in the back where you can scrape things out to. the grill's starter tool pack has a drip cup that hangs off the back frame, just under that slit. I've also found foil liners at Walmart for easy cleanup. I have a 22" and it's plenty big enough for me.

Sitting in the basement due to storms.
Decided to raid the chest freezer for ice cream sandwiches.
Not like I have anything better to do.

DH may be a little delusional about what I'm cooking on a Blackstone (aka breakfast bacon and eggs ain't happening) but I'm probably good with my current grill repertoire of lamb chops, chicken, veggies etc. I appreciate the feedback.

I'm waiting on my pizza to be delivered. I never do delivery but I'm pretty sure I have enough per diem left for today to cover it. It's raining so I didn't want to go out with the group or drive one of our other cars to a restaurant for pick up.
This is week two of back to back trips and I was away the weekend before I kicked off this travel.
I was expecting housekeeping today but that didn't happen. I hope they show up tomorrow or I will be calling for new towels.
Glad you avoided the steps chiver!

I saw something in another thread that made me think about this, but what I wanted to say wasn’t really pertinent to that thread.
When Mister and I went to get his car, it was in a small city/town, near Chattanooga. The first couple of hours or so was along the same route that Mister drives to take his daughters to and from college. He has always described that part of his route as “Trump country” and does not want to have to stop on that part of the drive, for anything. He calls it Trump country because of all the huge signs people have on their homes and property, and all of the confederate flags. When we were driving to get his car, we even saw a rig with a big sign on the back saying something like “Get on Trump’s train”.
We briefly entertained the thought of driving up Sunday evening and getting the car Monday, so we didn’t have to do all that driving in one day. But he did a little research and decided that that probably wasn’t somewhere we wanted to spend any more time than we had to. So we did all of that driving in 1 day instead.
We spent a few hours at the dealer, buying the car. I didn’t understand why it was taking so long, since Mister had already told the salesman that he’d talked to, that we were coming Monday, they’d already agreed on the price, and Mister had a check from his credit union to pay for the car, so financing it wasn’t an issue. Surely a business that sells cars every day can verify a check from a nationwide credit union in less than 3 hours, no?
Maybe I’m just a bitch, but I felt like it shouldn’t have taken hours, since they knew we were coming, they had settled on the price, and really all they needed to do was finalize the paperwork do whatever they do to make sure the check he gave them was legit.
I was probably also hangry by that point, and Mister told me to pipe down when I started getting agitated and wanted to go see WTF was taking so long. I listened to him.
We were both very hungry when we finally left the dealer, because we didn’t eat before we left home or during the drive there, but Mister didn’t want to stop to eat in that area. So we drove toward home and stopped later. Which was still not ideal, still being in Trump country. But we stopped at a Chik Fil A, and they are known for being pleasant to their customers.
I have always said that I go wherever tf I want to go in public, and as long as I’m not doing anything wrong, whoever doesn’t like it, can kiss my ass if their only problem is that my black ass is in a public place. Maybe because I am older now, and just want to live in peace I’m not as willing to venture to places where I’m not welcome, just because of how I look
As a side note, I didn’t see even 1 brown or black person during the hours we were at the dealer. But there was a white woman that approached us when we walked out of the salesman’s office to stretch our legs while we were waiting. She told Mister that she saw us when we left to test drive it, and that car is gonna get him some tickets, because it doesn’t feel like you are going fast when you really are. She said she’s had several Mustangs and loves them, but owning one now doesn’t make sense for her life. She said she’s a painter, and pickup trucks suit her better now. She was very friendly, and seemed to just want to tell Mister how much she liked the new car he was buying and share a little of her story.
I mention her because I am sure (or at least hope so) that there are people in the pockets of the country that are “Trump country” that are still decent and friendly people.
Before now, I have never in my life considered whether or not I should go somewhere that I had the right to be, even though I’ve always known that racism was still alive and well where I lived. I’ve gone to Mississippi whenever I wanted, even though I’ve always felt that was probably the most racist state in the US. And I’ve had a confrontation with a racist in Mississippi, who told me to take my ghetto ass back to Tennessee, after seeing the TN tags on my car. I was just trying to buy a damn Weedeater at Home Depot to replace the one that had just started leaking gas while I was working in my yard, and the Home Depot in MS was the closest to my house.
I’ve also been called a N-word for the first time in my life, in my early 30’s, in Illinois, when I was there for a family reunion. I had a teacher in 7th grade that singled me out about a project she was assigning us to do. It was a small class of “gifted” students, and I already felt awkward before she did that, because all of my classmates were white and I didn’t fit in. I ended up failing that class, and it was not because I couldn’t do the work.
I have been followed as a teenager, in the Peabody Hotel in downtown Memphis, when I visited the gift shop before I went to order a brownie to take back to the room to eat. The lady following me was practically wringing her hands as she followed me and kept asking me if I needed some help and I kept saying no thanks, I’m good. She still kept following me until I got my brownie and went back to my Mom’s room. My Mom was a registered guest in the hotel, because her employer was having their Christmas party there that night and she decided to splurge that night and get us a room.
The things I have experienced, are peanuts compared to what the generations before me experienced. I really, really don’t want to go backwards with all of that, and I am seriously afraid that that is what’s going to happen in the near future.

Mister just finished cutting the grass. He said he wants to edge it, but he doesn’t really know how to do it using a weedeater. I asked if he wanted me to show him, I can’t do it all myself, because the one we have is so heavy it makes my hands and shoulder hurt after just a few minutes. But I can show him the tips and tricks my neighbors and friends showed me when I was learning how to do it myself.
I wouldn’t mind doing the trimming myself, if I had a tool that wasn’t so heavy and awkward to use. Imo, the trimming and edging makes a big difference in how the yards look overall, but I don’t fuss about it here, because it’s not something I can say I’ll just do it myself. Because when I did try to just do it myself, it was a fail because my hands and shoulder started hurting after just a few minutes.
But if he buys something that is easier for me to use, I won’t mind doing it, since I like the way things look when it is properly trimmed and edged. What he have now is an attachment on something that can serve multiple purposes. I am not a fan lol.

I know how hard those before us fought to be where we are now, and I'm afraid that's all blowing away in the winds of today's political rhetoric.

It is an 18 page agreement with additional addendums written by their attorneys. It says Resident's Representative agrees and understands that he or she is signing this Admission agreement and its Appendices, in both a representative and individual capacity. it also says they don't accept Medicare assignment. Medicaid/Title 19 would be separate, but I am assuming that given the personal responsibility clause and their refusal to remove it, they do intend me to pay from my own funds (I did ask for clarification as we asked about this during our tour, and we were told that they accept a total of 10% of their total population to be on Title 19). Assisted Living Facilities and Nursing Homes are governed by different laws. I think maybe we should look at a memory care facility attached to a nursing home (When the patient runs out of $$, they have to accept Title 19 pay). Idk if my mom's friend is right that she can function on her own for a bit yet and it is not as important as DB seems to think it is. Yes skilled nursing and Assisted living have different laws and different audits. For Assisted Living it is two years of self pay from the patient, though they would happily take your money too. After that if the facility is qualified for Medicaid, she could go on Medicaid. I would make it clear that the funds would come from her and her POA you would administer them. That if somehow things ran out she would be moved to a Medicaid nursing facility. MO.

But I so need to open bank accounts so I can move SS payments, then get our IDs so I can get DD to the Medicaid office so she won't run out of meds. I am stressing over this. They will likely cut her off Medicaid at month end and then the game is on of how fast I can get stuff for her done. And pray she does not get seriously iLL in the interim. I'm seriously stressing over this and trying not to. That's my stressors and I have so many other things to catch up paperwork wise. www.umpquabank.com/personal-banking/

Resting. We’ve earned it. Casino party was last night. 42 guests. Lots of fun, but we’re exhausted. We both worked regular hours today. It’s back up to 98°F today; it didn’t break 90° yesterday. So, we will take it easy tonight.

Mister just left to go play with his new baby.
He is still working nights to train the new guy that will be his supervisor on that shift.
He got in our bed to “take a nap” this evening, so I went outside and left the bedroom door open so that if Boy heard me moving around, he could just go investigate instead of barking and waking Mister up.
Boy still ended up waking Mister up, by putting his paws on Mister’s side of the bed like OG use to do when she fell asleep in our bedroom and was ready for Mister to take her to her bed in another bedroom. She didn’t do that every night, only when she fell asleep in our bedroom and woke up and wanted to go get in her bed in another bedroom.
Boy is different, he just wants Mister’s attention all day every day, and that is why he insisted on waking Mister up this evening.
Boy does not demand attention from me, like he does with Mister. When I am home alone with them, Boy does not put his paws on the bed to try to make me get up. When I do get up before Mister in the morning, I let the dogs out to do their business, and feed them and let them out again before I go to work. And Boy cooperates with all of that, but when it’s done, he still wants Mister and puts his front paws on the bed to wake Mister up.
So in my mind, Mister has let Boy train HIM to get out of bed when Boy wants him to.
Mister gets irritated sometimes because he can’t sleep as long as he’d like on his days off work, but I don’t have a lot of empathy for that, because if I’ve already fed Boy and let him outside a couple of times before I go to work, before and after I feed him, him waking Mister up just because, is because Mister has taught him that that is okay.

Found a great video of Mellencamp and Springsteen doing "Little Pink Houses" in Newark in March 24. Tomorrow is another day indeed and I'll see y'all then. Sleep well, peeps!

I renewed my Peacock subscription yesterday. I did premium for $139 for the year, no ads. I hope I don't regret it. I won't regret the no ads but maybe the $. I can’t figure out how to switch to annual.

I got a little flip with DH. He was putting shoes on to go cut grass. Mens 3x3 basketball was airing. He scoffed, rolled his eyes and said “they keep adding stuff. It’s not even full court basketball.” I said, “so? They are still athletes dedicated to their sport. Why shouldn’t they be able to compete?” He didn’t respond. That got me curious. The first modern summer olympics in 1896 had 43 events in 9 sports. The 1972 summer olympics had 185 events in 21 sports. Paris 2024 has 329 events in 32 sports. Times change, the world grows…<shrug> I am in IDGAF mood today. I’m struggling with the addition of break dancing.

We have a have a 28-inch black stone. We bought one for DD#1 when she and SIL bought their first house; it think it’s a 32-inch. I cannot fathom my husband agreeing to a griddle top on our Weber gas grill.

We got the big Weber back when we first retired and I envisioned a lot of company and a lot of grilling. Didn't happen, Weber is rusting, time to move on. DH may be a little delusional about what I'm cooking on a Blackstone (aka breakfast bacon and eggs ain't happening) but I'm probably good with my current grill repertoire of lamb chops, chicken, veggies etc. I appreciate the feedback. We often make fajitas on ours. DH will also have sausages/brats on the grill and toast buns on the blackstone.

I sold mine for $50. It had the iron top and even though I greased it with lard, got rusty. The new ones are nonstick, they came out right after I bought it. I did fajitas on it too. So I bought a stainless steel top to put on my grill and I think that will be better, only 1 item to mess with instead of two. Just got it before all the moving so haven't had a chance to use it yet.
I did some today, not till after 3 though. I wanted to see how hot the house was inside. It wasn't bad with 2 fans and all closed up. But I would say with all of us there and cooking plus showers and all it would have been hot. It got 89 out today, I need to take a hose and water plants, I need a sprinkler. We got our first water bill!! 748 gallons of water??, $63, ouch, $15 for new fee. I need to see what minimum usage is. I saw an old rusted saw and limb cutter out back plus an old hose that needs to go. All the shrubs need trimmed and one needs to come out, also weeded, but not going to happen for awhile. She left a lot of great big pots, those are expensive but all the plants in them are dead. Those need to come out and something else planted in those, maybe just clean them for this year. I would love to have the whole back patio enclosed for a catio but doubt that happens. It's enough room the cats would be happy and they could just stay in.
I did hang up 2 suitcases of clothes and am doing another one tomorrow. Got the pieces of boxes out of the living room. We have all kinds of cut up boxes and tape we packed things breakable in. I found a purse so I don't have to carry what looks like a big backpack, now people won't' look at me in stores like I'm taking things. It's fine for traveling but not for shopping and its darn heavy. Now if I could find one of my bags of shoes, I want my sandals that I must have packed somewhere, should have been in my suitcase.
I had to go in the drugstore, I'm getting fever blisters on my lower lip so bought Abreva, yes, I masked and was in there a minimum amount of time. Went through the drive through at MCD's for DD, sanitized my hands before and also masked. That was it for today.
Wasn't over there but about an hour and a half so didn't do much. Did manage to scoot my table around so it takes up less room, it looks good in there. but that was it, I'm too tired to do much so I didn't. They did not show up with my trash cans, hope they do this week as I need them.
Once we thin some more its going to be nice there. DD's room doesn't look to me like it's ever been painted again, I think that is original paint so is awful and the floor coverings in those 2 rooms are awful, but will have to wait for awhile. Lots of little things need done there but we will get to them a little at a time.
So I came home, going to get my bath, that's it for today. Here I just did some laundry, one day I need to sweep, but not today I'm tired.

NICE! You don't have to know where you'll wear it. You'll have it, when the time comes! I'm happy for you.

Other than groceries I am buying little or nothing. I did buy a bottle of spa or whirlpool tub cleaner, but that is it.
After this move I am just turned off by buying much of anything. I was embarrassed by all we had to get rid of. I knew we had quite a bit but not to the extent we had. I need to dig out things like shower curtains and matching throw rugs and items like that. I have a lot and curtains we have all kinds of pretty ones, again just need to dig them out of boxes. So we can get by with things we have already for a long time.
Hope I can find some of my paintings tomorrow to put up, we have them boxed and wrapped.
Wish I had the energy to repaint, DD's room. Maybe next week, I don't want to move her stuff in and then try to paint. Also her flooring needs redone. I can do laminate but not hardwood.
About ready for bed, I'm tired and need to get rest tonight, hope no one calls me early in the morning.

I picked up an electric. While lighter than a gas powered, it still does have some weight. However, I don't have to wrench my shoulder trying to get it started, and I don't have to deal with the gagging gas fumes. I have two batteries. I really should have 3 since we have a large property.

Good morning, active and analytical invisipeeps, addressing to-dos in your lives. Welcome to Thursday. I hope you find this day satisfying and that it offers prosperity and peace to you and yours. And that no one pees on your pancakes, of course. Today, the 1st of August, I will put in orders for the prints and mat display sets for the 8 days of shows we have scheduled already, with another 3 expected before the end of the year. Spent hours yesterday figuring out which pictures to order prints of and in what sizes. We're making a few changes, showing matted prints only on one wall while the other two will display the finished pictures. Plus viewers will be able to leaf through matted prints and if they see something they like, choose a size that we'll have on hand. I'm hopeful that will work well. I need to pick out two framed pictures for a gallery show in a week. I have 4 out at 2 different galleries now. Yesterday was heavily overcast and pending rain for most of the day. We did get a short downpour. In the early morning the clouds on the horizon hid the sun but you can see its promise in the edges of the clouds:
