Any ideas for a birthday present for a 13 year old girl? Edited: The 13 year old girl is my DD1! Her birthday is Monday. For the day itself, we are going to an amusement park and bring a couple of friends. So far, we’ve gotten her a necklace to replace a current one she has (that’s not in the best shape). I was going to get her mascara too. She’s asked for a certain Lego set and a Spotify premium gift card. I feel like we should do something else. Thoughts? I think the amusement park and necklace are plenty, but my kids get spoiled by grandparents so I've never done more than taking them out to dinner or throwing a party on my end.
If you think you should buy her something else, I'd go with the Spotify card. Less future clutter. I thought the amusement park and necklace were enough too but I tend to over think. 😁🤣

Click on the streetview screen within the map. You can scroll it around and get a good idea of how close it is to the road. I like the house, but those black floors would drive me nuts. I have a blond dog who sheds like it's her job. I can never keep up with the dog hair, and it would drive me batty to see it on that floor all the freakin' time!

Planning on having a BLT without the L for lunch. No lettuce, but I have some nice ripe Cherokee Black tomatoes, and the bacon is currently in the oven.
The hot weather has finally found us here in NW Arkansas. It's gonna be 95 today, and up to 100 next week. It's a good day to be grateful for the a/c!

y'all, my life just flashed before my eyes. my arms are very scraped up and will definitely bruise later on, and I'm still shaking a little. I was just standing at my tall counter, about to log in for a work call. I went to put my left foot down on the floor from having been up on a rung on the barstool at the tall counter.....and I caught the power cord to the laptop. I started to fall backwards - immediately (~3ft) behind me is the wide open stairs down. cue me grabbing the counter, the laptop, the banister post, anything to prevent me going headfirst down those stairs. well, the power cord got pulled from the laptop and separated into segments around the power supply. laptop launched and thankfully didn't break. I landed on my butt and rolled back onto my back and I managed to hang onto the banister post. my head was definitely over the top step, though. yikes. with the universe as my witness, I will never let the power cord hang in front of the counter again!! That sounds like a really scary set up. Can you rearrange your work area so you aren't that close to the open stairwell?

I'm really struggling to get stuff done. Which isn't awesome because I've gotten files in for August which I really needed.
Also...informed delivery is lacking. I've been waiting for a check since the 3rd. It wasn't supposed to come yesterday and wasn't listed for today so I had the company put a stop pay on it and they'll wire the money to me tomorrow. But the damn thing came in yesterday so now I'm losing another day on the payment for no reason. It's not the first time it's happened but I always thought it was my mistake. I've set up future payments to be wired from the start so I should spend a lot less time tracking money hopefully but I'm still annoyed.

The heat index is hitting 100 degrees here today. Our power company is asking us to reduce the number of electrical items we have plugged in and is offering an incentive to reduce your "average" amount of electricity used. I do like money. So, if I'm not on here playing between 3 & 6 pm, you know why.

That sounds like a really scary set up. Can you rearrange your work area so you aren't that close to the open stairwell? it honestly really isn't, it was just a perfect storm of a Keystone Cops sequence this morning. this time of year, I'm usually outside on the deck. when I came inside last night, I just plugged the laptop into an outlet in the middle of the kitchen island and left the cord hanging. I wasn't going to be online long before I had to head out to a car service appointment - and I was taking it with me to work from the waiting area, so I just left it where it was for the short term. just moving the power supply behind the laptop on the counter, once I'd uprighted myself was enough to keep the cord away from where it could be tripped over.

Nice house but I wouldn’t like the dark floors that will constantly show dust and dog hair Nice that it’s on a dead end street

Asserting my dominance. Access to a server changed overnight and cost me a half day of work. Damn male challenged me over access. And his boss proved me right. And my boss is proving me right. #I'maBadBitch

I have already noticed in the new place that even though the floors are not real dark they show everything. The robot will be out running all the time.
I am so tired of sitting around and not able to do stuff. Grrrr

On the bright side, you just inspired me to tell OB to set up informed delivery on my mother’s behalf so he can keep an eye out. She’s always been pretty sharp, but there are so many scams out there…. Thank you!

I went downtown to get my ears lowered this morning. About 6” of hair got lopped off. It was badly needed.
As I was leaving the downtown area, I was on a one way road in the right lane. I could see I had the green lights for the next couple lights. I caught a flash of blue on my right, an SUV with a blond teenager was texting. I stomped on the brakes right before getting into the intersection leaned on my horn and she blew through the right lane, stopping in front of me. If I hadn’t stopped, she’d have t boned me.
I swear to God, there has got to be some way of deterring texting and driving. Laws aren’t doing a damn bit of good. This is not the way I want to get a new car!

Spent several hours today talking to moving companies for our move in a few weeks. We closed on the new house yesterday and today DD is over there ripping out all the carpet in advance of installing new flooring. We’re going to have LVT flooring put down and herringbone tiles in both bathrooms. It will take a week or so for that to happen, then we can move in. We need to paint a couple of rooms too.
I’m getting excited to move and get our current house on the market. Our realtor says it should go fast as it’s a sellers market right now. Hopefully that is true!

Well, it is a USPS service so.... i lost my last vestige of trust in the efficiency of the USPS somewhere around 2010. At the time I was very involved with the billing on the programs I was the contract manager for. So there was this outstanding invoice for company X. The invoice was overdue and I had contacted them a few times but they insisted that they had mailed their payment. Why they did not pay electronically, use FedEx or at least tracking numbers I never understood but they just stuck their checks in regular business envelope and send them of. Finally I threatened them with late payment penalties so they cancel!ed the check and FedEx'd a replacement. Two MONTHS later my counterpart contacted me to tell me USPS had returned the check with "unknown address" stamped on it. We had been at that location since 1956 - over 50 years!!!
As to company X, I "waived" late fees for their promise to use FedEx going forward and fair is fair, for that particular program, they did. Since the check was in the amount of $25M (as in million) it still boggles my mind that they thought a simple business envelope send through USPS was appropriate. I

I renewed my Peacock subscription yesterday. I did premium for $139 for the year, no ads. I hope I don't regret it. I won't regret the no ads but maybe the $.

I returned the proposed modified admission agreement to the Assisted Living facility. The administrator basically left me a message that they would not allow much of any changes to the agreement. Per my lawyer's advice I modified for Mom to sign without me co-signing. Struck any references to me being contingently liable, and struck the entire Binding Arbitration Clause. There is also a sentence that Starts " Except for the right of the Facility to modify fees and charges, amend services provided and establish reasonable operating procedures and rules for the general welfare and safety of the residents of the facility, this Agreement may only be amended in writing signed by all parties to this Agreement or their successors. I modified as shown. If they have to agree to modifications, then so do we. I do understand they can change the pricing - but seems there should be reasonable notice provided. There is also a paragraph that says "Any clause, term, phrase, provision or part thereof contained in this Agreement is severable, and in the event any of them shall be found to be invalid for any reason, this Agreement shall be interpreted as if such invalid clause, term, phrase, provision or part thereof were not contained herein, and the remaining clauses, terms, phrases, provisions or parts thereof, of this agreement shall not be affected by such determination and shall remain in full force and effect. I modified it to start with "IF any and struck the wording shown. I felt that it was saying they could modify it any way they wanted. The lawyer did not take issue with those sentences, but they did not make sense to me, so I modified them. I think based on the initial fees being quoted my mom could stay there a good 10 years. I am sure the fees will rise, so easily funds should last for maybe 5 years. She is going to be 86 in November. I hope she does not live to 95-100 as quality of life beyond the next few years just will not be there. If I have to sign it, the lawyer said POA should sign on the resident signature line instead of the line for resident representative.

Others have already given their input. The only thing I can add is wrt those dark wood floors. A few years ago when MsRigby (I miss her) still worked as a cleaning fairy she often commented on the dark wood floors in one of the houses she cleaned. They were according to her an absolute pain in the a** to keep clean -> you would see everything, including every hair, on them I can vouch for dark wood floors being a PITA. It’s true that you can easily see everything that’s on them. When you clean them, they look dirty again the same darn day. It only took a couple days living in our house to know the floors were going to drive me crazy. That’s why I have a Roomba, and it is programmed to vacuum the rooms and hall with the dark wood floors every day. It helps a lot.

I got a little flip with DH. He was putting shoes on to go cut grass. Mens 3x3 basketball was airing. He scoffed, rolled his eyes and said “they keep adding stuff. It’s not even full court basketball.”
I said, “so? They are still athletes dedicated to their sport. Why shouldn’t they be able to compete?” He didn’t respond. That got me curious.
The first modern summer olympics in 1896 had 43 events in 9 sports. The 1972 summer olympics had 185 events in 21 sports. Paris 2024 has 329 events in 32 sports.
Times change, the world grows…<shrug>
I am in IDGAF mood today.

So, the administrator of the facility came back and said they will accept no changes and as my mother's designated Healthcare POA they expect me to sign. The agreement says I am liable to pay if my mom runs out of funds. When she runs out of funds, we can of course move her somewhere else, but usually any facility wants you to have a minimum of 2 years of self pay before they will admit you. Idk if all facilities will expect me to be personally liable or not. Mom can last at least 8-9 years at initial prices quoted. Mom is not so bad that she needs an immediate placement - we like this facility, it has a good rep, and is very close to DB and also quite close to DS's house. We do worry mom may start wandering (I am not hugely worried about that, she has hip and back pain which will prevent that) but also we are worried she may fall down the basement stairs. One of her friends really does not want us to move her from her house, so she is coming over every day to make sure mom takes her meds. It is very sweet of her to do this, but don't want to put that on her either.

I have not personally walked the journey you are on but I feel there's a big gap between the facility's expectations and your actual liability. As NomoreDramaQ1015, Pink Cashmere, and others have said, some places are very willing to lie in their corporate attempt to intimidate you into accepting financial responsibility for a family member.

As NomoreDramaQ1015 , Pink Cashmere , and others have said, some places are very willing to lie in their corporate attempt to intimidate you into accepting financial responsibility for a family member. It is an 18 page agreement with additional addendums written by their attorneys. It says Resident's Representative agrees and understands that he or she is signing this Admission agreement and its Appendices, in both a representative and individual capacity. it also says they don't accept Medicare assignment. Medicaid/Title 19 would be separate, but I am assuming that given the personal responsibility clause and their refusal to remove it, they do intend me to pay from my own funds (I did ask for clarification as we asked about this during our tour, and we were told that they accept a total of 10% of their total population to be on Title 19). Assisted Living Facilities and Nursing Homes are governed by different laws. I think maybe we should look at a memory care facility attached to a nursing home (When the patient runs out of $$, they have to accept Title 19 pay). Idk if my mom's friend is right that she can function on her own for a bit yet and it is not as important as DB seems to think it is.
