heh, was that one of the exit routes? I can't remember anything about that movie, or the sequel(s?) lol.... honestly, I've been standing at this counter to work for almost 4y now. I'm shocked that it's the first time that's happened. my reaction time was likely better as it came on the heels of tripping on the last step a few weeks back....not sure taking a header down the stairs would have really been on my radar prior to that one. bruises are coming in nicely already, and there's a knot in the middle of my left quad that I hadn't noticed before. good thing I don't really go anywhere, right?

I am so nervous. My interview is at 10. I took the day off so I could focus and not worry about timing and work. Part of my brain knows I got this. Techs with my level of knowledge are becoming few and far between. The other half has let my manager & co worm their way in. I got some really mean internal voices. Trying not to pin a ton of hopes on this but it's hard. The breathing room with having EV gone and no meetings yet has really driven home the mental burden I've been carrying. Just got to repeat what everyone else tells me. I got this. You are smart enough you are good enough and gosh darn it people like you! as soon as the voices start, say "shut up Regina."

I'm not going out and about but that is why I'm stressing because I can't. The doc said just a few more days would do it. I hope so. It's just I need so much done and that's not even worrying about the house. I am going over tomorrow, I get my trash cans. I will sit in a chair and cut some boxes for the trash can and bag up the tape. I can easily get a can full at least. Need to get some out of the way for when hubs comes up with more stuff for the garage. I wish I knew what box my purses are in. I just have the one big one that is like a backpack and its too big to carry around and I need some other shoes. They ended up stacking the boxes so not sure where they are out there. I need other items too, maybe one day I can get them sorted and get items out. You don’t need to cut up cardboard boxes, They can be given away or recycled. Take it easy and REST. For a Washington state bank account, I recommend Boeing Employees Credit Union. Pays excellent interest and has great service. BECU.org My recycling now has to be of a size that fits in the bin I was provided. No more putting flattened boxes at the curb. I have had to cut boxes so they will fit in the bin.

Francine Pascal the author of the Sweet Valley books passed away. She was 93. Dang that makes me sad those books were a huge part of growing up for me. I never did get into Babysitter's Club. I am as bummed about this as I was when I found out Anne Rice died. I still have my original paperback copy of The Vampire Lestat that is held together with tape and a rubber band. The whole middle half of the book falls out if you try to read it. I refuse to get rid of it that book was my introduction into Rice's world. Unfortunately none of my Sweet Valley books survived they weren't stored well in the basement and got damaged in the one big flood. Hindsight is a bitch.

I like this one looks nice, and it looks like it sits higher than the neighboring lots. Does anyone know why there are white lines on the plywood looking walls in that one room in the basement? It looks like the tape they use for finishing drywall? Is it some sort of waterproofing? Why did they do that? I also see a potential problem with the vents on the floor behind the island in the kitchen. They look like they will run right behind where chairs would sit. It is not a definate problem, but it might end up being annoying. That said, we have friends with a high end house in Glenview. They have a Island in their kitchen that they have two stools at, you can have 4. They slide a few backless stools in a corner, and when they have a party sometimes people use the stools, other times they don't have the stools there and they just use a counter to serve the food. They have french doors coming into the kitchen and it would be crowded if they had a table there, so No table. Now they put the hugest TV I have ever seen in my life on that wall in the kitchen. House has a set up for Family Room, Dining Room, Living Room. They use the Family Room area as the living room, and the Living Room area as the dining room and the Dining Room as an office. I really want to start using my dining room as my main eating area and either put a small island in my dinette or a very small table for 2 or 3. Also, it is not insurmountable, but I love the low window in the living room and the fireplace, but with the open living area furniture placement is going to be difficult. Maybe a sectional facing the fireplace will work. That house in poor condition seems overpriced, but it has good bones. Looks like a craftsman to me and it looks pretty big, but I didn't really look too hard at the square footage.

those vents in the middle of the floor are a little weird. there's one pic that looks like they are far enough away from the island that you can still put bar stools there and then maybe a console table behind a couch to kind of cover trip hazard of the vent plates. idk. def take a closer look at that if you go. I hate the weird expanded angle photos that realtors use in listing pics, they skew things badly.

I'd guess those walls are particle board paneling. my dad did the same in the basement of the house they sold during COVID. he filled in the low spots to make the walls smooth, sanded, and then they painted the solid walls. Arborist came out to look at the trees this morning and it will run $2,700+ to get them back in shape. They are backed up for obvious reasons so work will be done late September/early October. Decluttering the bank account, right? The good news is that we will probably be able to skip next year's trimming.

y'all, my life just flashed before my eyes. my arms are very scraped up and will definitely bruise later on, and I'm still shaking a little. I was just standing at my tall counter, about to log in for a work call. I went to put my left foot down on the floor from having been up on a rung on the barstool at the tall counter.....and I caught the power cord to the laptop. I started to fall backwards - immediately (~3ft) behind me is the wide open stairs down. cue me grabbing the counter, the laptop, the banister post, anything to prevent me going headfirst down those stairs. well, the power cord got pulled from the laptop and separated into segments around the power supply. laptop launched and thankfully didn't break. I landed on my butt and rolled back onto my back and I managed to hang onto the banister post. my head was definitely over the top step, though. yikes. with the universe as my witness, I will never let the power cord hang in front of the counter again!! Holy Moly! I'm glad you didn't go down the stairs!

Hey, just something interesting I found yesterday. I was at my Mom's on my lunch break yesterday and I asked her who her maid of honor was. She said, I don't remember (she has dementia). I went in her bedroom looking for a picture of her full wedding party, but I spied what I thought was the wedding photo album on top of her high dresser. I grabbed it and started paging through it. It was a scrapbook I had never seen before. Mom was from a small town and there are a bunch of lengthily newspaper announcements. One on the Wedding, had a wedding picture of my parents and a long article, detailing what the bride's dress was made of, a description of the dress, description of the bridesmaid's dresses and a detailed listing of who was in the wedding party. It also said my Dad's cousin's family were the musicians. I am not surprised, as his cousin was a Church Organist and talented Pianist. I think everyone in the family plaid an instrument and am sure at least 3 of the children shared her piano skills. Some of the kids also plaid string instruments. They were older than us, but the youngest was just a year older than me. They had like 8 kids, and I think their son was ring bearer. I want to merge what is in the Scrapbook with some of the Photos in her photo album and share with my siblings.
Clarified that one investment can be liquidated for her care. It is 18,000. There is another one I need to check on. It is paying small RMD's but not sure if I can just take all the $$ out now. The lawyer reviewed the document, and gave me feedback. I have to go in an mark up my copy and then read through. She suggested we have my mom sign so that none of us have contingent liability. I will do it if it is allowed. Hopefully my mom will sign. Will have to have her sign today or tomorrow. Potential Problem is that the lawyer is apparently on Vacation so I might have issues communicating with her. I am very glad I consulted with her. After Giramomma commented that spending $350 to consult with an attorney would be money well spent, I reached out to the people that helped Mom and Dad with their planning and asked for an attorney referral. It is not like the assisted living facility did not have an army of attorneys write their Admission Agreement that is 18 pages long and has multiple attachments. She wants about $400.00. She did give me a partner's name to talk to if need be.

We have a vent on the kitchen floor near a wall that is directly next to the seating for our island. From my experience, Andi won't have much of an issue because her dogs will be laying across the vents. We calls ours the stump warmer/cooler (2 of our 3 cats have three legs).

Good afternoon, all! Husband and I got back from our vacation to the Finger Lakes yesterday. I'm already trying to figure out a weekend getaway so I have something to look forward to. Last Tuesday a transformer blew up down the block and fried the blower in our furnace and popped a surge protector outlet in our dining room. Had a fun Wednesday getting an electrician (to check/replace anything at the outlet before turning that breaker back on) and our HVAC people over to replace the furnace part. Thankfully all was taken care of before before we left on Thursday! No way I was leaving three cats without AC.

Any ideas for a birthday present for a 13 year old girl?
Edited: The 13 year old girl is my DD1! Her birthday is Monday. For the day itself, we are going to an amusement park and bring a couple of friends. So far, we’ve gotten her a necklace to replace a current one she has (that’s not in the best shape). I was going to get her mascara too. She’s asked for a certain Lego set and a Spotify premium gift card.
I feel like we should do something else. Thoughts?

Speaking of giramomma and her lawyer recommendation, OB has arranged one to draw up healthcare and financial POAs and feel her out on a will or at least naming an executor. We’ve been going over these with her…she does form new memories, just a lot more slowly than she should. We’ll bring her the documents to sign on Friday. I’m not entirely convinced the will is a great idea, bc state law otherwise would just split anything between her three kids, which is how she would’ve wanted it before this delusion/paranoia about YB. I think this will work out OK…she’s fairly consistent on being willing to sign POA docs and generally receptive to the idea of aides checking on her regularly. But since the crisis past the emergency point, I’m into processing a lot of feels on my own behalf and I’m kind of a mess rn, tbh.

A bracelet making kit. Cash (or Amazon gift card) is always good too. On the other hand, what you listed in your edit is enough.

I think the amusement park and necklace are plenty, but my kids get spoiled by grandparents so I've never done more than taking them out to dinner or throwing a party on my end.
If you think you should buy her something else, I'd go with the Spotify card. Less future clutter.

We gave my older daughter a ring for her 13th. Something grown up that she still wears most days.

Others have already given their input. The only thing I can add is wrt those dark wood floors. A few years ago when MsRigby (I miss her) still worked as a cleaning fairy she often commented on the dark wood floors in one of the houses she cleaned. They were according to her an absolute pain in the a** to keep clean -> you would see everything, including every hair, on them
