I’ve seen some weird looking things weather wise, but I’ve never seen the green sky, and we have our fair share of tornado warnings and such where I live. But I will take everyone’s word for it that green sky is bad. I too, will be waiting for word that minnesotapaintlady and family are okay. Then you haven't had a tornado hit in your immediate area. Green sky is what happens right before shit gets real. We don't get green skies or tornadoes here. I am not sure I would know what green skies mean if I saw it but it would freak me out nonetheless. The only weird sky I ever saw was the red sky of September 2020 - the day it looked like I spend it on Mars. And that was more than slightly disconcerting. It stuck with me for months even though it posed no direct threat. I "don't do" unnatural sky colors unless it is on a piece of art and even then I don't really like it if the artist is older than 10yo!

Oh crap, according to a weather "break-in alert", minnesotapaintlady and giramomma's weather is heading this way later this evening. Sounds like it's going to be a bumpy night. At least it will hit after dark so I won't see what color the sky is.

Soup that didn't happen today, it was a couple of months ago for me. Oh man, I have 3/4's of a 5 gallon bucket of green beans to break, I may have to can beans tomorrow and was going to make relish instead, sigh. I'm going to cook a mess of green beans tomorrow for us to eat. Wonder why they say a mess of green beans? I looked it up, came from my Kentucky relatives apparently. APPALACHIAN DIALECT How Big Is A Mess? 35 Comments July 30, 2014 A mess of beans In the last week, a few Blind Pig readers have been wondering exactly how big a mess of something is? A mess is enough for a meal. Here is a portion of what the Dictionary of Smoky Mountain English has to say about the word mess in regards to food: A noun 1 A collection or portion, esp of meat, sufficient for a meal. 1913 Kephart Our Sthn High 98 I ‘low I done growed a bit, after that mess o’ meat. 1937 Hall Coll. Cosby TN The bear killed lots of stock. He wouldn’t eat but two messes out of a big’un and then kill him anothern’n (Neil Phillips) 1940 Haun Hawk’s Done 112 I started that day I sent her up yonder to Arwood’s branch to pick a mess of wild sallet. I’m most familiar with using the word mess in regards to describing a quantity of vegetable or a quantity of fish that is sufficient for a meal. Tipper Up here, a 'mess' is poutine. According to Merriam-Webster, a popular etymology is that poutine is from a Québécois slang word meaning "mess", and that others attribute it to the English word pudding. The exact provenance of the word poutine is uncertain.[20] ----wiki

When the green skies come, it's usually a bad storm.
Mom used to send my sister and I to the basement and then she would go outside, cigarette in hand. She wanted to know if she was going to die because of a tornado but she left her kids in the basement under furniture.

Here's an image of a "green sky". The one I saw was in an actual tornado warning, so the green part was more circular. There was rotation, but nothing had touched the ground.

Did you lose wheat to hail, or the wind? Straightline winds. It's flat to the ground. We didn't get any hail thankfully.

We had bad storms last week. There were tornado warnings and the sky was very weird. Some corn crops were lost nailed straight to the ground.
I'm not so sure about my basement being safest. Maybe the back half. It's half in ground and half above ground with windows due to the townhouses being built into a hillside.
Some areas were without power for 5 or 6 days. There was a ton of tree damage.
A day later down lurkyloo's way, DH's coworker had multiple trees land on his house and deck. No one was injured. $120k is the current insurance estimate to fix it. The deck was brand new.

I feel so sorry for the farmers when they lose crops like that. I'm sure they have crop insurance but it could still be a loss to them.
I hope we don't have anything like that here this year. The crops are looking good. We have had a lot of rain. They have sprayed for whatever so looking like a real good crop this year. I'm reading about droughts all over but not here so far.
Got my beans broke. And I was planning on making relish tomorrow. But I loaded the stuff in the garage fridge to do another day. Little guy is wanting to go to the pool tomorrow. I'm worried, he can swim but has just learned and hasn't without a float attachment. I don't want him getting in deep. And I think it will be packed just opening. I wanted him to go Monday, but he said grandma I haven't had anybody to play with in forever. That is true, so will have to get in with him to make sure he is safe. Not sure about taking DD too, I may get her to wait till he leaves and get her a float deal too. But he so needs kids to play with.
Yes, I had a lot to do tomorrow but I guess it can wait. I passed to many chances with my kids, always doing the duties instead of spending time with them. I should not make that mistake again.

I'm home from a fantastic night with great music. I am covered in OFF spray and I don't care. I'll change my bedding tomorrow. I'm unwinding with some Three Stooges reruns.

At least, not here. But IF you see the sky looking like that, it's best to get indoors ASAP. I've had to replace the shingles on my house twice due to hail, about 10 years apart, and if you see a green sky, you're VERY likely to get hail. And of course, you can get a tornado when the sky looks like that, too.

I don't know if they really mean more hail/tornadoes or if it's the one of those old wives tales handed down from generation to generation, but it's creepy as hell that's for sure. eta: when I was maybe 11 or 12 a major storm hit our town. I was biking back from the stable where my horse was boarded at the time and the sky was emerald green with churning clouds, I remember being super panicked trying to make it home before it hit, then going into the cellar (trap door in a closet that went into a dirt basement) to wait it out by myself until I thought it was over. There were trees down everywhere and the power was out for almost a week. Every time I see a sky like that it takes me back 40+ years to that storm!

I like to watch the storms. My kids used to get all nervous and tell me to get inside the house lol.

Good morning, invisible storm evading peeps of Y Ma'am. Welcome to Sunday. I hope yours is sunny in all meanings of the word. Except, I hope heat doesn't sap you of the will to live. It's expected to be torrid here again. I'm so glad to be living seaside where it just doesn't get past 90 or so. Inland, DSis is seeing 100+. And I am so grateful for the ac arriving timely.
Hey! I just found how to insert emojis in this forum! 😘 😎
In other news, just sending a text message to a friend or friendly acquaintance can have a powerful effect. From behind the NY Times paywall,
"Across all 13 experiments, those who initiated contact significantly underestimated how much it would be appreciated.
The more surprising check-ins (from those who hadn’t been in contact recently) tended to be especially powerful.
Dr. Liu and her fellow researchers kept the bar for what counted as reaching out intentionally low: a brief call, text or email, or a small gift, like cookies or a plant."
So text someone. Every day, different people if you like, but text away. It does matter.

Currently having DD2 sleep on my chest while everyone else is sleeping at a hotel about 6 hours from home! Overall, the visit went great and everyone had a great time! DD2 is tired of being strapped in a car seat but she has no choice. At least we’ll be sleeping in our own beds tonight.
Hopefully she goes back to sleeping through the night when we get home. Didn’t always happen towards the end at my brother’s and not tonight either. She also may be teething too but I really need her to open her mouth for more than 5 seconds…. Asking an active 11 month old to do that and 🤣🤣

taz157 Wait until your daughter turns 2 and realizes the car will stop if you say you need your diaper changed. Makes the trip take twice as long because about half the time, it really did need changed. It's cloudy here this morning. We had some rain and lightning overnight. Appears we had wind, too. Got several alerts for the doorbell and it's wind blowing stuff every time. Neighbor behind me keeps their trash and recycle bins beside their house. The recycling is all over the yard this morning. I'm thinking my weather radio no longer works. I had phone alerts this morning, but the radio did not go off.

I'm about to go and get some work done. I'm going to be out again next week for half the week. There are no fairies that get my work done while I am gone. And, while I was gone, work that I did give to others got done, so it's now in my hands again to get my parts done.

I hate people today. I want to see mom this morning.
I promised Gwen I'd take her to the mall which works it doesn't open till noon.
Abby had a blow up yesterday so I was going to include her because today isn't really Gwen's birthday.
Gwen is now mad at me.
DH has a meeting and is annoyed. I have to take Abby if I'm leaving now.
He said he wouldn't go. I don't want him to not go because the last thing I need is him finding a way to use this to relapse.
So Abby is coming. Everyone is annoyed.
And the dog took a fucking massive shit and pissed all over my sunroof which I just got done cleaning up. DH needs to ask the vet about it.

I was walking through the dining room and saw some people that looked out of place. Here everyone looks like me. I creeped and there was an animal rescue parked outside. I didn't see them take the dog next door but they looked like they were wrapping it up and left shortly after. I really hope so because they left her outside again yesterday. I called again and to my knowledge nobody came out.
