I'd live there. Did the one you were haggling on fall through?
Yes. According to the realtor she thought I had it in the bag. She said they went a different direction because the other party agreed to not ask for any repairs. I told them I'm fine with cosmetic items, but I want big items fixed. So they dropped me like a hot potato.

The Tullis house is still available. I really like it. It's just so far away from where I want to be! Bear in mind that I live in the city so I don't drive like some of you guys do. It's 13 miles from downtown KC. I don't drive all over like that.
Plus, it's in the whitest neighborhood. I don't know what kind of people live there and I don't know if I'll have issues with people thinking I don't belong and calling police on me for every little thing. I realize it's 2024, but racism is very much alive today and I am very brown.

(Actually, I'd say like 65% of our life is within 4 miles). The white neighborhood would aslo give me pause, if I were you.

Ready for the live broadcast of the opening ceremony for the Olympic Games. There is no business like show business and this part of the games certainly is that

This is cute, I'd bite on this one. No dishwasher though. While I did not have one always, I do appreciate having one now.

my manager gave me approval to learn SQL and PowerBI on company time, and we have access to the Microsoft Learning site. I finally have time (and motivation) today, so I pick a class and get started... only to realize the entire thing is reading and text. I just can't learn that way. I'll have to just set myself as "having a meeting" and use my personal laptop to find a different class where there's video and someone talking.

Who here knew that Swaziland is now known as Eswatini?
How different things are now we can instantly look something like that up without losing track of what is going on

Annoyed. TD made reservations for my birthday dinner tonight at Silver Reef Steakhouse. He made the reservations 10 days ago. He got a call last night that they had been canceled. My last birthday dinner here was not a successful dinner. It was the one where I broke a tooth eating salad and his RLS was on hyperspeed. We turned out getting the rest of our meal to go. Looks like the redo isn't getting redone.

I realize it's 2024, but racism is very much alive today and I am very brown. My husband is very brown too. We live in Milwaukee County for that reason, but our suburb is very white. When we decided to move from our first house in this city and build a new house, we unintentionally moved to a neighborhood with a lot of Indian people (from India). We also have a good mix of everyone else too. About the time our neighborhood was built they also built a Sikh temple, which is why we have so many Sikh neighbors. Idk, one of my brother's daughters is married to a Mexican man and the other is married to a Black man from Afrika. They both live in one of the most high end cities in our area, and I have never heard of any neighbor issues. I just don't want to live next door to neighbors like you had when you owned your last house. Someone's race is the last thing I am concerned about. Btw, I like the house, and my round-trip commute to work is about 50 miles a day and I don't consider myself to be someone who likes to drive. I plan to keep this job until I retire which will hopefully be a few years yet.

We used to have two old, like 1995 ish, Corollas that I'd hit my head bending down to get into. Since our first RAV4, 2006 which we still have, and our "new" 2015 RAV4 I like the easy entry. I drove a 1987 Toyota Corolla until about 15-20 years ago. I sometimes wish I still had it. But getting parts for it had become very difficult.

When my cousin's doctor partner was doing his residency in Milwaukee, they did all of their house hunting in the winter. When they moved in and started seeing their neighbors, they found out they were the only white people in the neighborhood. Everyone else was Black.
They got concerned when they found out one of the neighbors was a former Baptist minister. They are very friendly people but weren't sure what she would thing of two gay men. They became best friends. They still go to Milwaukee to visit her.
I visited and stayed over night twice. I had no problems and people waved at me because cousin and his partner were part of the neighborhood. They told neighbors I would be coming and going and it was okay.
There was one street they told me to avoid coming home from the Paul McCartney concert. I didn't come out of the parking lot the same place and ended up on the street. Nothing happened.
They were ready to come back near family in Iowa, but they missed their neighborhood.
They took a beating when they sold the house because the builder had gone broke and there were lots of foundations only on lots and empy lots.
They are now in their forever McMansion built on farm land the doctor partner inherited. It is gorgeous. Other members of his family have built on some of the family land. One lost their year old house in a tornado this summer. Cousin and his partner's house had big time damage. It was so expensive to repair because the vinyl siding could not be matched so it had to be replaced rather than repaired. Same with flooring. As he told me, it didn't need to be this expensive but because things are being replaced instead of repaired, it is.
The house has a lot of glass windows. The tornado took out the glass in the windows and that was why they had damage to the interior of the house.

But I do get it and understand, because I’ve lived in areas where some of the white neighbors made it clear that POC weren’t really welcome. Not all of the neighbors, just some. Those times were years ago, but like you said, racism is still very much live today, in 2024. And many racists have become even bolder over the last few years. I don’t comment much on your posts about potential houses for you, but I really do hope you find somewhere that you really like, and that is a good fit for you.
