lurkyloo Hopy your mother heals quickly from her broken hip. I would think she will have to go to some type of rehab before going home. Hope your mom will accept the help she needs to stay in her own home. My aunt had to be put in a memory care unit. Her 3 sons were rotating staying with her at night and during the day she there would be care workers. My aunt would "forget" they were allowed in her house, and she would hit them with her cane. Police would call her oldest son rinse and repeat.

lurkyloo, I would recommend your brother spend $350 or so to see an elder care attorney. The lawyer we met with was frank. We wouldn't win a case against my mom. And we'd have to pay her legal fees. This is a woman that pissed off folks that run organizations that give free support to the elderly, to the point that they would not help her. This is a woman that has gone without heat in her house in the winter for like 4-5 days twice in the past two winters. The lawyer thought 5 days without heat *might* be enough for mom to get on APS's radar. *Might.* The police could not forcibly remove my mom from her home when the temperature in her house dropped to 40. That said, she could have been lying about them doing a well-person visit too. Who knows.

Being mad at Mr. spy from Georgia. He is yet again leaning over the railing of the shared landing, smoking and letting ash fall onto my Mum, etc. I wish he and his buddies were gone but its a contract apartment so someone is still paying him to be there. I often wonder if its Russia, because he doesn't seem to have any regular work schedule and the number of people in the partment varies. A project car, a Camry, was sitting in his assigned spot earlier today. Did not see when it left, but his GF with the Jeep Grand Cherokee with NY plates was there instead.
I don't think he understands I stare at him in disgust for polluting the air for the other three apartments. The woman below him is immune-compromised. I do not understand why he is still there .

Can't you just put up a no soliciting sign and ignore them? Our subdivision does not have a no-soliciting policy. If you don't answer the door, it's waving a very red flag that no one is home, and your house is a great burglary target. What about getting a doorbell camera and telling them to go away? Then it's recorded that you asked them to leave.

Someone please make it stop!!! On Sunday afternoon I looked at the forecast for Tuesday (my walking day with my friend R) and the high for Tuesday was 93°. So R and I talked and decided to go swimming instead and I would make chicken salad for lunch. I needed a few ingredients so I picked those up today and it was warmer than forecasted and now tomorrow was going to be 95°. I just looked again -> it is going to be (at least?) 97°. This is ridiculous. Someone please make it stop!!!
And just for funsies temperatures mare going to be below average this coming weekend. If they want to convince me that global warming is just a hoax they have to cone up with a better plan. The current one isn't cutting it

If you don't answer the door, it's waving a very red flag that no one is home, and your house is a great burglary target. Does that prevent you from putting a no soliciting sign up on your front door? I regularly do not answer my door sometimes out of pure safety reasons. Just because whoever decided now was the time to knock on my door does not mean I am obligated to answer it. And decades before Ring cameras were a thing, my dad rigged up something for Halloween. His very own version of a talking pumpkin, that would be triggered I think by movement on the front porch. It was automated, but he could also cut out the automation and take over the mike and have fun with the current trick or treaters on the porch if he chose to do so. The population in my complex is mixed in many ways. There are people who work from home for example and those on shift work who might work second shift or be first shift but pop in and out of their apartment for lunch breaks. I know a few women who work from home because of health reasons. They generally do not answer the door during working hours unless they are waiting for a specific delivery. Is theft a big problem right now where you live?

Good morning, strong invisipeeps, enduring some truly rough stuff life can toss out. Welcome to Tuesday. I hope this day does no further testing of your mettle but grants you and those you love some peace. I hope you have relief from intense heat, fire and flooding. I hope you have cause to celebrate some victory, large or small. It's raining right now so Franklin the Dog and I are not running to the beach this morning. Looking around I can see I need to do some serious cleaning. The aftermath of a show is always some chaos. I heard yesterday that some GOP members of Congress want to sue Biden and/or the DNC for deciding not to run but instead tapping Harris. Ludicrous reigns eternal. Yesterday morning I saw two Great Blue Herons, a Great Egret and a great sunrise, too:

I like the pic Finninme. I'm up because part of my brain reminded me I have to send the text of the day until I get the paperwork from the doctor to submit to HR. Then we can graduate to updating it periodically. My first appointment to see what is wrong with my knee will be beginning of August. Same weekend as the planned scattering of dad's ashes. I want to go now, but I do not want to make my knee worse. I will reach out to executor sis B possibly via letter. Texting can work, but the nice thing about a letter is it is longer and can be reread until it makes sense. And burning a letter or shredding it is less destructive than hurling one's phone across the room simply because you don't like what you are reading. Not sure if the mailman/post office peep will come at the same time they did last week. I know we had a temp, but I am not sure when the regularly scheduled person is to return to our route. It was fun the other day to watch two different Amazon drivers deliver packages to the same building almost simultaneously. One had the Amazon tiny van, probably an official FT employee, and the other one was driving a nice newer car, probably a contract/temp employee. Both of course had their vests on so So probably time to craft an email to HR letting them know I did not forget they are waiting on paperwork from the doc and me. Until my first specialist knee appointment was scheduled, filling out paperwork would have been part fiction. Now we know when I can first see the specialist and the doc knows what she might hear from said specialist. I wish I could just be well and my knee be OK without going through all this. But that's not RL. It is damaged more than it has been before. Probably cumulative overuse and abuse of needing to use NJ Transit busses 6 days a week so I can have a roof over my head. Need to work harder on becoming independently wealthy.

I really was hoping the past week would reset me.
It has not.
But I don't think I'm depressed or whatever.
So, I dunno what the problem is.

Did not eat enough veggies last night. Really need to make that cucumber salad sometime today b4 dinner. Need to wake up and just go outside to reorient myself. At 5AM I was planning to go back to sleep for 1.6 hours and instead was up in less than 10 minutes. Too much stuff to be done

I have a lot of complicated thoughts here…but I agree guardianship should be a last resort and am deeply skeptical a. that YB could get one and b. whether he’s really the best person for it given the animosity there. I will hope OB can talk her into someone coming by regularly.

Annoyed with my brother he's being a twatwaffle to L. They were over there yesterday and Archie wanted to know where all his toys went. It was explained that a lot of them had to be put away because L moved in. My brother's explanation was "It's not our house anymore". Archie wanted to take a nap on the pull out couch. Again "Not our house anymore". L said she was fine with it but my brother argued there was too much "stuff" in the way to pull out the couch. Dude we used to have the coffee table of death in front of the couch (I ran into it so many times and so did Gwen) so you can't use that as an excuse. L is really trying to be welcoming. I get Bob is still adjusting and deep down he was a mamma's boy but COME ON. You made her feel bad the last time you were over with your passive aggressive attitude. It is not her fault mom is gone and dad has the right to move on. L and I had a whole conversation about it where I reassured her that I am fine and while I do very much appreciate her concern she has nothing to worry about. It was an adjustment for all of us but that was MY problem to deal with. Projecting it onto her would not have been fair. I said dad and I had a very long talk about boundaries when he started dating. Which apparently he was having with the wrong kid but it was still appreciated that he respected me and in turn I respect that it is his life to lead. I've also had more time to get to know her and I like L. She is very nice and I feel she is good for dad. She's different from mom and that's not a bad thing. Does it sometimes mess with my head? Yes but I remind myself what the therapist said my parents met very young. My parents went through major life stages together and shared 40 years together. My dad is at a different stage in life than he was with my mother. It messes with my head because I have 40 years of normal being my mom/dad. Things aren't wrong it's just different and it's taken my brain time to compute. In private I admit that their relationship seems a lot better adjusted mentally/emotionally than my parents did. It is still "our" house in that we are always welcome. I still bring Wilbur over for playdates and show up at their doorstep it's just now I text first. L was asking me the one day how I got in the backyard because she didn't see me come through the house. I joked that I lived here first so I know all the ways to get into the house whenever I want. Dad said not after he changes the front door lock. Well played dad well played. Bob needs to get over himself and/or get therapy. That is what I did to help me process. Though my dad rightly pointed out that Bob has always processed things differently and gone his own way so who knows how this will go down over the long term. Still not a reason to be a passive aggressive dick. Archie seems cool with L which I would consider a HUGE plus if I was Bob.

That said, sometimes I think he was playing for drama points especially the last 5 or so years of his life. The boiler or whatever was not just broken, it was 57 degrees in the house. One time I decided to look up current and recent temps in my old hometown and realized he was doing his drama thing. He was too proud to get much assistance. To my knowledge he did not piss off various organizations. Lurkloo and Gira, good luck to you both. I am glad that part of my life journey is over.

TheOtherMe - thinking of you on your healing journey. As NastyWoman said, hopefully the pain is, and will stay, bearable.
In other news, DD sent me a text that she woke up to about 15 notifications that they had put her on a flight today, despite telling her yesterday that she would not be able to work today. She said she had an hour and a half before she needed to sign in, but she managed to do it. Supposed to just be a day trip, and back to her home airport. She just has one change of clothing with her so hopefully that will be the case. My DS called me last night to tell me he had gotten a promotion at work. Just like a 3% raise, but he will be eligible for incentive bonuses, so he should be getting more $$. He tired to negotiate for more $$, but they would not budge. His friend was recently promoted to a very similar position on 2nd shift and people are so disgruntled that he got out of everyone how much they are making. So son had some parameters for what he wanted. Still he took it in the end. He said he would have taken it no matter what as it is very hard to try to look for a supervisory position without having supervisory experience.
Waiting for DH to send me his attorney's e-mail addy. Attorney is old, and semi-retired (still sharp, we met with him last year), but I just need someone to review the admission agreement to the Senior Living Facility before I sign it.

I am shocked by what I see when I look in the mirror this morning. I will not be leaving the house. I'm sorry. Years ago, I was in a car accident. My forehead took out the windshield (with seatbelt on and bent the steering column). When I was released from shock trauma ICU, I was told not to cover my forehead. I went back to work that way, in a huge office building. I got lots of looks and questions. It wasn't pretty. I wish you all the best.

I am shocked by what I see when I look in the mirror this morning. I will not be leaving the house. when DD was about a year old she headbutted me, and gave me a perfect shiner. I still had to go to work. I had law enforcement pulling me aside and asking me if I was safe. One of the attorneys i regularly worked with offered to beat the snot out of my husband.

I just erased what I wrote again, wonder what key I'm hitting to do that.
The guys are here loading, they are super nice. Turns out they are from Guyana, I didn't remember that was an English speaking country as they don't even have accents. One of them and hubs found out they had worked in some of the same countries. He had been a roughneck so used to hard work for sure. Turns out 5 of them got together and formed their own moving company. They go coast to coast, so hope they are doing well.
So they are busily retaping a lot and taking an inventory and moving it outside. Glad its not raining. I think we will get a lot on that truck. Would be great if they were able to haul it all on just the 2 trucks, would sure help hubs to not have to take so many loads.
The cats are kind of a nuisance, I want to put them in their room but that one has not been cleared yet.
I would love to take a nap, but my chair needs to go, the beds are gone. I had hubs fumigate the motorhome, it has sat out there so long I'm afraid of spiders. We are sleeping out there tonight. I need to wash the sheets first. DD can sleep in here on her bed. I hope I don't fall asleep.

Really hope you're not in pain. Some of DH's ostomate friends refer to their surgery date as Life Giving day and even make a point to celebrate making the sometimes difficult choice to choose ostomy surgery which gave them add'l life to live. Thought you might relate. Sometimes a positive spin makes all the difference.

I am shocked by what I see when I look in the mirror this morning. I will not be leaving the house. I'm so sorry if you're not comfortable with how things look right now. Remember, it'll be at least a couple of weeks before you have an idea of how the "final product" might look. And, at least for me personally, skin on your face takes a LONG time to get back to looking normal after any procedure. So, just avoid the mirror for a bit, rest up, and is there a t.v. series or bunch of movies, or a good book you can distract yourself with?
