Supposedly there are 2 more offers on the Barber house. I want it, but given the amount I would have to put in it, I'm not going much higher. They want me to waive the appraisal which the realtor advised against. We'll see. I think if they say no I'm going to just keep looking.
I don't want to renew my lease. I talked to the manager at the leasing office and she said she'd work with me on moving out. I offered to let them stay in the house after the closing if they need to wait to receive their proceeds from the sale to put down on their next place.
I've decided that if I don't find something by mid August, I may have to settle on something. No house is going to be ideal, but I am going to have to give up something by then. I can always remodel a space. Hell, I may settle on Tullis. Driving a little extra to get places won't kill me and it's a beautiful house.

well, I'm back from a little day trip over the bridge to hit Market Basket and get the pups out of the house. there's a few things I can only find (or not pay thru the nose for) at that store, and it's where empress found dried chili peppers on her way down a few weeks back after we struck out at a couple places. I just turned on the heat to my Dutch oven to start on some pozole. here's hoping this comes close to the magic andi created in my kitchen.

Finished laundry and vacuuming finally. Dinner is shrimp lo mein (from PF Chang - the frozen kind was on sale this week; we have one of their restaurants in the area, but DH cannot really eat out anymore). I will add extra vegetables to fill it out; I have fresh corn and two red peppers from my garden. I may work outside in a bit but it feeling like 100 out there at the moment.

Meghan, I like the dress a lot, I hope the heels work, because I think that kind of dress will be hard to hem. I clicked on the accessories suggestions-is a strapless bra necessary? I almost think a regular bra with thin straps and a deep plunge would work better. Good luck pulling it together. How far off is your event? Zero bra, it has built-in cups. Heels should work, I tried on some too tight 3" heels I have at home and it was just fine, something ever so slightly taller will be perfect. Event is end of August, so I'd really have zero time to hem anything. It's all going to work out in the end! I love the dress. This is one of those times that I wish my boobs could handle built in cups.

I hired a guy to mow down the weeds that are growing along the house from when the grass seed ran off. They have just arrived. So I am spending the inheritance of my niece and nephews because they no longer have time to help me. Good for you! It's your money and heck with them! It has nothing to do with whether or not you love them. It looks great. I'm also giving serious consideration to change the beneficiary on my will. The one who does what he can from afar, listens to me when I am scared with this cancer stuff and shares his son with me is of more assistaqnce than any of the 3 who live nearby.

I'm sitting on my arse after cleaning a while. Once the floors dry I'll vacuum and clean my bathroom. Then I can take out trash and be done cleaning.

Just catching up with 2 sad stories from where I lived in South Georgia.
Former coworker had two young daughters who were both diagnosed with different brain cancers several years ago. One of girls had recurrence and recently passed away at age 26.
Another young lady that was a year or 2 behind my youngest died under suspicious circumstances in Atlanta a few weeks after graduating from medical school. Talk of suicide/fight with boyfriend, but looks like it would be on one of those murder shows. Really sad.

In case you have some extra dried peppers some day, I make this in my IP as the base for my chili and other stuff like chicken thighs. It freezes well. 8 dried chiles, stems and seeds removed (I used 4 ancho and 4 guajillo), 4 quartered garlic cloves, 1 tbs dried oregano, 1 tsp ground cumin, 1 tsp smoked paprika, 1/2 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, 1-1/2 cups water. 8 minutes on high pressure, NPR for 5 minutes, QR any remaining pressure. Cool slightly before pureeing in a blender or with an immersion blender. This makes enough to season 1-1/2 to 2 pounds of meat. Can also be thinned down with water or stock as an enchilada sauce or with vinegar for a marinade.

well, I did a little taste test of the pozole, and it's not too shabby for a white girl's first attempt. I'm very happy I didn't try this from an online recipe before having the real thing, b/c I already have been thinking about ways to improve this for next time to close the gaps between this pot and andi's magic. for example, all I could find was boneless pork chops. there's not nearly enough fat on boneless pork chops to flavor the broth. it's currently simmering a bit longer b/c the hominy was still kinda al dente in my cup 'o soup. I should have put it in the pot earlier, now I know for next time.

Hubs made $9,979 on his part of the yard sale, and I made $1,254.50. He sold his backhoe and the old truck.
In fact, we sold so much stuff and had so little left, that we gave the rest away and cancelled the sale for tomorrow!! I can't believe the people that came, we were almost overrun with people. Yes, it was a great success, we are happy its over.

The federal government and most states are not tracking Covid cases. The best indicators are wastewater levels. Hospitals in California went back to masking requirements yesterday. I don't know if it was one system or one section of the state. The number of people here that have actually bothered to test and I know IRL is crazy. I am thinking after my sister goes to a wedding and then a funeral on her husbands side of the family, she will have Covid and I will be in search of a driver for my surgery. The person who the funeral is for died from Covid. Every time that family gets together, they pass Covid around. Sister and her DH have done it before and I don't expect this time to be any different. I hadn't heard that one yet but the difference will be minimal here: when I went for my annual checkup in May at least 90% of the people I saw still masked up in the hospital. And, like me, took that thing off once they walked outside - as evidenced by the trash cans near the exit. Hospitals are one of the few places I still mask up irrespective of whether it is mandatory or not: sick people go there. Airports and airplanes are the other places and I do have masks in my purse for if I ever get near someone who coyghs their silly head off.

The results can be ummm...interesting is the best way to describe it. My oldest brother keeps telling me to change the language setting but switching between three different languages anytime I write something is just asking for trouble. Knowing me I would rarely have the correct setting for any message

I love them! As a gardener, anything that eats snails and slugs is my friend. They are not dangerous at all, just doing what we all do sometimes - trying to pretend to be tough to scare off threats. Many of my neighbors put out large bowls of food that the feral cats, possums and raccoons all share in peace

Richard Simmons is dead at 76. He aways promoted a healthy lifestyle. I never exercised, didn't have a healthy diet, smoked for over half a century, and I bet I'll live longer than him.

They'll eat 95% of ticks in your neighbourhood and they're immune to snake venom. Very handy critters to have around.

I am over the moon right now because Martin, our landscaper, is okay and sent a crew our way. He lives south of us closer to the coast and we were very worried about him and family. Also, the next door neighbor is blasting Latin rhythms which make my heart sing. Life is getting close to normal for most of my beloved world in what some call the armpit of Houston.

My old Toshiba TV is on it's way out. There's a black line on the screen that won't go away. The TV is 25 years old. My dear friend (and dealer) Mike came over today to see if I need help with anything. He's going to take me to the Mohawk reservation, Kahnawake. He has a friend there who has a store which includes TVs. Mike just bought a 50 inch Smart TV for $300, no tax. So, I'll get one there (Mike will drive me) and get a new TV. He'll set it up, as I'm a Luddite. He's the one who invited me to see Beres Hammond at the Olympia theatre. No romance here...he's been my friend since the 70s. He's been with his current 'wife' for 11 years. She's not the jealous type. Anyway. I'm happy to be able to discontinue cable. It will save me money. It's nice to have good friends.
