After Sandy in NJ, gas stations were required to install generators so people could get gas for cars and their home generators. And I learned to fill up if a hurricane got remotely close to entering the Gulf of Mexico that and peanut butter. And as soon as some of the stations do get power back and open for business, everyone's going to be crying about getting bad gas with water in it because a lot of those underground tanks leak in heavy rain. Not good for the engine at all

I think the first one has more potential...especially if you wanted to eventually be all on one level. More space, bigger garaqe... but I like the yard on the second one much more and it's obviously a recent flip judging by the older picture on Google street view so everything is new and you wouldn't need to do anything (unless they did a crappy job on the updates). So I just got back. I'm going to put in an offer on the Barber house. The 65th one was an obvious flip which is nice, but one of the bedrooms was tiny. I can use it for an office, but I don’t know that I trust it. Plus the house next door was trashy. The 55th house was nice, but the street was busier than I'd like. It wasn't a main road, but still kinda busy. The yard was not wooded necessarily. There is a tree smack in the middle of the yard and the neighbor behind it has trees along their fence which makes it appear wooded from the satellite view. Good luck! I really like that one. 🤞🤞

That moment you realize that you are not just living a privileged life but that you are spoiled rotten
This morning I was reading about people dying of heat related illnesses, including in this area. I needed to get some groceries and noticed that my living area (DR/LR/kitchen/office are all one open space) so before I walked out I turned my portable A/C - just so it would be nice when I came back. It is now 100° out but I have a nice comfy home and not a worry about being able to afford this. As I said -spoiled rotten!

Welp, it looks like I will be going across the state Monday with Mister to pick up his new Mustang. We are just trying to figure out logistics now. It’s a little over 5 hours away driving, flying is 3.5 hours because there are no direct flights. I’d rather not have to drive 2 cars back, so I suggested renting a car one way if we drive. He’s figuring it out, which way he wants to do it, I’m ok either way, as long as it’s him taking off work and not me, since we don’t have the same days off.

day 1 back at daycare was a massive success! both pups are out cold and snoring softly. lol.... LD actually came out to stare me down after dinner. I finally ran the colorful bedding from "his" bed through the laundry today, but hadn't yet re-made the bed with clean stuff. AND, I had the audacity to use today that they weren't here, to wash spots on "his" chair and let it air dry. so he had nowhere to go that he preferred to go. oops. guest bed is now made, but he already curled up on my pillows. message heard, sir. ETA - I'm taking the opportunity to spend some quality time with my Outlook inbox, trying to clear out the shit and maybe make a dent in better organizing things. I've got the news streaming on the tablet, that I forgot I had during the trial. the streams I was watching weren't doing well on the 9yo tablet. YTTV works just fine.

Laundry load of clothes done, we've haven't changed and showered this often since Covid. Yard work in high temps and humidity will do that to you. Even DH said, "I haven't showered every day in years"

For instance, I am 98% certain that I will need to sleep in my living area on my roll-away bed. I love sleeping in my queen sized bed in my, much darker, bedroom. But then I think how that twin sized bed is really quite comfy, despite the fact that I have some arthritis I have not felt a twinge last week when I slept here too. And then I feel really lucky and grateful I have options. Would full house A/C be nicer? Sure, but this is also the first time in the 20+ years I have lived in this home we have had a heatwave this early and so persistent. Last year I never even needed more than the occasional fan so no big deal. Bonus point in this whole situation: by reminding myself of the positive things I do have my whole day feels lighter and brighter

alright, I'm getting hungry finally. I left myself a note as to where to start again tomorrow. this inbox cleanup was of the general sweeping kind, as in if I can't easily figure out which product or site it is by subject line and what's in the preview screen, it stays where it is for another day. but in what, 2 hours since I sat down here? I have culled* my inbox of over 2000 messages that I didn't need to be CC'd on. and I still have more to go. I sorted by sender, and I'm still only on P.
*and by culled, I mean, I dropped them all into the site folder so I still have them if I need to cover my ass for anything. but it all doesn't need to sit in my inbox.

Mister decided to rent a car to drive Monday and has made the reservation. It will cost hundreds of dollars less than us flying to get the car. And by the time you account for getting to the airport early enough to get through TSA, and arranging to get from the airport to the dealer, there isn’t a big difference in the time spent driving vs flying. When I told him that the company he is renting the car from, it’s possible to arrange for them to come pick the car up (it use to be, I’m not 100% sure it is now, but it’s worth inquiring about) he was surprised. So he said look at all these cars out here (we were in the garage), how would I know that? That rubbed me the wrong way, so I said “SIR! Let’s not pretend that you’ve always had all these vehicles, and let’s not forget where WE come from”. He said yeah, I never had the money to rent a vehicle anyway. And I chuckled because of the way he said it, and settled down because he was also acknowledging the truth in what I was saying about his financial situation now being so much better than what he has experienced his whole life (and mine). Anyway, he seems to think that buying this Mustang will make him happy. And maybe it will. I think that living a joyful life is more important, and that doesn’t have much to do with material possessions. I also think that he got stuck in buying a Mustang is kind of a mid life crisis sort of thing, and has something to do with his parents dying last year. But while buying a sports car is kind of typical and cliche, it is not the worst thing that some people tend to do in those kinds of situations. It won’t wreck his finances, so whatever. We joke that he will probably be like the older gentleman that we saw on a video some years ago, that basically had to roll out of a sports car and into the ground, to get out of it. Mister has bad knees and all of our current vehicles are either too low or too high for him to get in and out of comfortably. So yeah, that’s gonna be fun for him amd probably funny to me.

I only mention that they were white, because my church was in the hood, hood, and I’d been going to the same church my whole life….. white people did not come to our church. Not that they wouldn’t have been welcome, they just didn’t come. So that Sunday, the white people that came smelled funny, and you didn’t have to get close to them to smell it. They smelled like some kind of fuel, not body odor. Nobody made a big deal about it, or shunned them (that I am aware of). It turned out that they were homeless and the smell was from them using fuel to try to keep themselves warm since it was winter time and they were living outdoors without proper shelter. I don’t remember how they ended up at our church that Sunday morning, if I ever even knew why or how. It didn’t matter to me how or why. Anyway, not long after, I’d bought my house and it was winter, and cold as fuck outside. When I got home from work that night, I took a shower and put on some flannel pajamas, and I clearly remember being in my bedroom, thinking about them, and feeling so grateful that my children and I had a roof over our head in a safe neighborhood, and feeling grateful that we could be warm on that cold winter night, and I could afford to pay the costs to keep us warm. I very clearly remember the gratitude I felt that night, because it was so cold outside, since I HATE being cold. I even remember that I had put on the infamous Donald Duck flannel pajamas after my shower that night. My children and I were safe and warm, and even though I felt like it was due in part to me working to make it so, I also understood that many people are willing to put in the same work I did and even more, but things didn’t/don’t always work out for other people as well as they did for me. So I remember how that night, I just felt like I was blessed and felt bad for people that didn’t have even the comforts I did and was able to provide for my children. I don’t remember what the actual temperatures were that night, but it had to really be cold, since that night and my thoughts got stuck in my memory.

I used to live in a densely populated Hispanic area before. I currently live in a primarily black area. I was just thinking earlier about how I may possibly be moving back to the Mexican hood. It's a safer one than where I was, but still pretty Mexican.

So I went to pay my 941 Payroll Deposit for tomorrow's payroll, and I got an error code. I cannot figure out how to look up what the error code means. To log into my account there is a que. I have number 4,258 in the que and the line is paused. Once my number comes up, I will have 10 minutes to log into my account. I think the problem is that I have to use ID me for work and personal reasons. It looks like I need to add my work e-mail addy to my personal account. I might have 3 or possibly 4 accounts. Personal, DH's business and a business I have and my work. Of course, work has 3 businesses and I only have one e-mail addy for work. LOL. This is going to be a mess, and apparently there is nothing but a bot on the ID me site to answer questions. Good think the work taxes are not due until next Wednesday. Going to lunch. Interesting that you had issues making the 941 payment and ID.me not working correctly. My ID.me is tied to my personal email address but I can make my side job’s 941 payment without any issues along with my day job’s extension/estimate payments too. I also use it for my day job’s TIN matches too. Maybe it was just a fluke today. Good luck!

Despite what certain people try to say about Mexicans illegally crossing the border and painting them as dangerous people that are raping, robbing and murdering every chance they get, that is NOT the perception people I know, have. Where I live, they are known for being about their business and doing good work in a timely manner. The stereotype also comes into play with that because if you are looking to have some work done on or around your house, people tend to advise and refer Mexicans, because they will do a good job, in a decent time frame. There is a community that is mostly Mexicans near my first house, and a similar community near where Mister lived before we bought our house. Aside from the Hispanic communities, the other demographics were different compared to where my house was and his home. But the issues in both places, had nothing to do with the Hispanics/Mexicans (I am trying to use the proper terms and not be offensive, so please forgive and educate me if I’m not getting it right) living nearby. Every single thing that ever made me feel some type of way or not safe, was due to somebody that was born and bred in the US, and either what we consider black, or white. I do understand that bad people do cross our borders and come into our country and wreak havoc. I am not denying that. I am just saying that I disagree with immigrants being painted as criminals indiscriminately, because in my 50+ years of living, I’ve had way more serious problems and issues with people that were born and bred in the US than anybody that came here from another country.

True. Racist people paint immigrants as criminals. Only the brown ones, of course. They're cool with the white ones. And I would definitely hire a Mexican crew to work on my house before I would any other ethnicity. They get shit done! Also, we make really good food. 🙂

So I got to keep $2,600 of the $4,300 bonus I got for writing new business. It will be going into the house fund.
My CSR usually gets half of what I get. It's not taken out of my cash, it's just if I get $2k, she gets a separate $1K payout which is what we got last time. She said that was the biggest one she had ever gotten. She was surprised to get double this time. She texted me earlier today thanking me for working hard bringing in so much new business and for choosing her as my sidekick CSR. Ha ha!

Long day, I'm tired, but what else is new.
I hear the cat scratching on the bedroom door, not a good thing. He scratched an scratched at the door until I let him out. He is now all curled up on the back of my recliner he likes to spend the evening with me. Yes, he is spoiled. now he is under my legs on his back and I'm rubbing his tummy. I know letting him out is reinforcing him. He knows I'm in here listening to the TV, but Tigger doesn't care at night.
I got most of the stuff sorted and we got it on shelves. We had it all out doors and was going to cover with tarps but looked like a storm. Another guy stopped and there were 4 guys moving it back in, in short order.
Of course it hasn't rained so far. Oh well, it would have if we had left it out and like hubs said they can get it out in short order.
DD let me get rid of a lot of the stuff in her big bookcase. Hubs said he will build her some shelves in the new place for her to display some of the things she kept. So they got the big bookcase out. Tomorrow the corner TV stand and a small table in the dining room, that's all the furniture that is going.
I was frustrated dealing with the one agent for the house, she quoted a high price for the insurance. Their agency has some kind of phone issue. This morning I may have called to early but still I called another agent with the same company and he answered. Said he would get with me in 10 minutes and did. He didn't jack the insurance up and we saved $700, it has a $950 deductible, so I paid for a year, that's done, effective tomorrow. I told him to transfer the insurance from the other agency over to him. He had a 5 star rating and when I looked the other one up they had no stars at all. I like the fact they also answer the phone and don't run you all over a phone tree. There is something to be said for good service.
It's 11 I need to go to bed, 10 tomorrow tele med call, 1 meeting with the notary.
I need to get the gas, electric, and water transferred over.
The traveling notary left me a message and I wrote down the phone number and his first name. Then like a dummy erased it instead of saving it, I never do that. So I called the number to confirm the time and it apparently is the wrong number. I guess I'm going to have to get back in touch with the title company. I have been a problem for them as I'm busy right now, don't carry my phone around with me, and am not prompt on answering messages. I'm just worn out, hubs said just 3 more days, he is too. And we are soooo thankful for these guys helping us. He said we could not have done it alone.
I hope there isn't stuff wrong at the house from the beginning. Doing the roof and and heat pump will cost us enough initially. Hope the fridge, stove, dishwasher and water heater are ok.

Today is my oldest granddaughters 6th birthday. She is in full princess mode. Did video chat and we got the full display of presents with princess tshirts, princess toys, a princess costume, and princess games. Love it! swap "princess" with "Spiderman" and that is my 5 year old grandson.

Good morning, fortunate invisipeeps with working a/c, new jobs in the offing or continuing jobs paying bonuses, new homes in the works, cars in the driveway, a driveway for the cars, food in the refrigerator, functioning generators, offspring or friends or SO's to love and hard working help. And ice cream for those who choose! Welcome to Friday. I hope your day allows you to reflect, as NastyWoman, on your good fortune and fully appreciate it. And I hope no one pees on your pancakes. I'm up listening for any sounds of DH being sick. He awoke yesterday, sick, and hasn't kept anything down since. We have Zofran but that makes him vomit, too. Since last night he's kept a few sips of Gatorade down. Don't know yet if we'll need to run to the ER. Hope not. As long as he can avoid severe dehydration we'll get past this. We may or may not go to the gallery show opening tonight. I think probably not. He'll still be recovering. Yesterday, late in the day, I walked Franklin the Dog over a couple of blocks to view the harbor with sailboats as the sun dropped down:

One last question and then it's done.
I still haven't slept reasonable well in almost 2 weeks now. I am a little over it.
I think DH is a little annoyed too. And I alter between elation and fear over plunging our family into economic distress.
(I've always had a flair for the dramatic).
I think we are still going to try to get away. Very toned down, though. Nothing says a sexy night like staying at something similar to the Super 8. We have some points to knock down the cost. I think it's more important we have more than 10 minutes to be awake together than sleeping in a super nice hotel.

Finally got our Iowa taxes paid. Tad late but whatever.
I guess I must not have been the only one who hated the old web site and decided Iowa must not want my money that bad if they are making it so hard to pay because the web site is completely revamped.
I didn't need a BCIN, complicated password, rectal swab, eye scan and the DNA from five generations of my mother's family to get in this time. They even have a quick pay option!
Yay Iowa came into the 21st century on at least one thing!

Gira is there some reason you have to keep the kids in private school? We all went public and seemed to do ok, just curious, could make life easier for you I would think. They go to public high school anyway don't they?
