You can always make friends with the weeds tomorrow! 😉 Where were you when I needed you this morning? Forty-five minutes of weeding and I was worn out, as it was almost 90 at that point. I am making turkey chili tonight and cornbread. Have not had either in ages.
It is brutal out there. Heat index I think 102 around here until about 5 to 6 PM. I am trying to do some quick pruning, a bit at a time since my ability to walk up and down those outside complex stairs in marginal. I think I am going to try to carry some super quick across the pking lot to the 'compost area'.

What?? You think I am going to go out and weed right now, much less help you in Florida beastliness? The thermometer says 88 but feels like 100. My brother in Baltimore is at 97 and feels like 107. He is dyin' up there. I'm sorry for all of us but feels like 107 is horrid. Hope he is careful. Here's it is feels like 102 for many hours today.

It's only 85* here. I thought about taking the twins to the dog park. Walking them by myself didn't seem worth it. My luck and a stray cat would dart out of nowhere and the twins would take off after it dragging me behind them.

My phone says it's up to 96, but I'm not going outside to confirm that.
I'm trying to balance my credit card from the trip to Vancouver, BC. Apparently there's this thing called "foreign transaction fees".

Heck, it’s only 91 here but feels like 70. I’m parked on sofa surfing so a slight breeze. Love my A/C.

I'm trying to balance my credit card from the trip to Vancouver, BC. Apparently there's this thing called "foreign transaction fees". I only use Amex and Capital One credit cards when I travel outside of the US because they don't charge foreign transaction fees. There are probably other cards that don't charge them, but I know those two do not. Lessons learned from all of the group trips to London.

Had to go to town and pick up a few groceries and lunch for hubs and DD. I bought luncheon meats for dinner tonight, pickle pepper loaf, sweet slice ham, and roast beef. I like my roast beef with brown mustard and horse radish, neither hubs nor DD like it.
I have worked all day on the top 2 drawers in the file cabinet and on all the upper shelves of the desk. Filled another large trash can with paper. Want hubs to burn it tomorrow. Now I have things to put out for sale and some items to put in boxes to go. I want to finish that area completely before I stop. I sure didn't get done what I planned to do. But I may still get the kitchen stuff gone. I knew the office paperwork would be a lot of work and it was. Maybe worse than I thought it was.
I am going to donate a bunch of office supplies to 2 teachers I know. I'm sure they can use them or someone they know can. I have one bankers box so far and 2 plastic cases I believe, will check.
I am having a roast beast sandwich, I tease little guy by calling it that instead of roast beef, he likes it, too.
Hubs has fallen asleep, he is tired. He has worked on 4 doors today, our garage walk out door, one to the laundry room and our front door, and the one to the basement, sanding them off and painting them. Two of them we have been intending to do for months, they were really bad. He said those steel core doors are very very heavy. He has done other things in between. We are moving slowly along.
We had to keep the cats in as the thing they wanted to do was jump on the doors, that did not make them happy. Also when the front door was off Smoke brought me in a gift, a live frog, so I got it out. They now have the run of the inside as hubs has the front door back up. The others will be dry soon.
All this stuff should have been purged better long ago. I don't ever intend for it to get like this again. I just found a couple of items from the Texas move I could not get in my kitchen. But I think there is more. Hubs said if you want to keep it pack it, I said nope, its going, maybe if I have room later and need it, I will just rebuy. Bet I don't need it. I have gone to big canning jars with lids to keep any bugs out and I likely will just keep using them.
Ok, back at it.

It's 82 here, but that's freaking hot to me. I'm waiting until we get closer to evening to start mowing. I didn't do much today except spend a crap ton of money at Sam's Club. I think I might be getting a cold too which is like...WTH? It's July.

Add in that one nostril is stuffed up and the other one is running and it's the worst! Hope you feel better soon.

It began raining around noon and is still drizzling with low thunder which is very nice. We really need the rain and it dropped the temp to upper 70's. Don't think we'll need to put up the shutters tomorrow but can't say for sure because Beryl is wobbling around the Gulf like a sloppy drunk at closing time.
We're not hungry but I have ground beef thawed for tostadas so I'll make us one each and freeze the rest of the meat mix and refried beans for another night. I did manage to clean the bathrooms after a brief nap.

Me:"It's really important to me today that I have time to do abc for myself. I'll need more than 5 minutes that I got the last time."
Two hours before the store closes, DH goes "OK if I take my walk now?"
This time, I might get a whole half hour.
And, yes, I also took a nap. I was up at 5:30 trying to get work done this morning.
Except for my nap, I've been stopping and dropping and doing what other people want or need.
Including shit that I didn't have to do if, like, you know someone would have made a phone call.
But it's more important to put stuff on me, last minute, than it is to you know, take shit off my plate especially when folks work part time.

I'm home, feeling like I got hit by a train. I knew traffic was going to suck, and it did not disappoint. what normally takes 40min to get home took me about an hour and a half this afternoon. but, I picked up 4lbs of dog treats and a full shopping bag of canned pumpkin and other dog stuff from mooch and M** before we tired out my two and stopped at the sports bar for a round of drinks and to let some friendly patrons they know tire them out further. it was humid AF and both pups were drinking all of the water, but I succeeded in Operation Tire Out The Pups. LD's already in bed, I'm going to have to wake him up for dinner lol.... as for me? I just inhaled a small bowl of Thai peanut noodles, and I need a shower. I'll be icing my ankle tonight as well, it's quite angry after inching in traffic for a solid hour. **I hadn't mentioned this before, but they put down their pup a couple weeks ago. he had lost interest in eating, to the point where mooch had been hand-feeding the previously very food aggressive pup. also, there were another couple of instances of aggressive attacks. mooch was able to jump on the kitchen island, but M was recovering from abdominal surgery and couldn't move fast enough. the pup latched onto her hand and broke one finger in four places. their vet did some testing over the next few days, and discovered a rapidly growing brain tumor - which was likely the source of the escalating aggressions. neither of them is handling the loss very well, but acknowledge that it was the most humane thing they could do. and now they wait for M's hand to heal a little more before the hand specialist can figure out what needs to happen next. the day after C was put down, we all went to an acoustic set downtown here (local, not Boston) that ended super early, they drove me home (I was still in the boot 100%) and proceeded to spend another 3h here with my two. mooch was rolling around on the floor with them both, and M was just continuously petting with her non-busted hand. I'm going to hand them over for some overnights here and there the rest of the summer, for some pup therapy.

Mister is on his way to go look at OD’s car because it’s running hot. When he told me this morning he was going to go look at it today, I asked “so y’all are talking now”, he said yeah, and I left it alone. The not so nice side of me thought of course they are talking now, if she’s been having issues with her car. I don’t like thinking like that. He left home in the Tahoe to pick Kiddo up and head to the country to look at OD’s car, but went back home after picking Kiddo up, to switch vehicles, because the darn Tahoe was running hot. Imma need the Tahoe fixed asap, because even though I don’t drive it, I was planning to drive it for the things I wanted to do with my Grandchildren this month. My Jeep is really not comfortable for a long drive, and while I did travel over the years with my children in my small car, there were only 2 of them and I have 3 Grandbabies. Plus, I am good with driving my car around town, but in my mind, she is retired from road trips. I know I could just rent a vehicle to take my Grandbabies where I want to take them, but that seems like a waste of money to rent something similar to what’s already in my driveway. Mister’s car is a sedan and has more room than my coupe, but it is his baby so much that I am almost paranoid about driving it, even though he’s okay with me driving it. The Tahoe is “his” too, but it’s not his baby like his car is, plus I feel safer in it anyway, compared to any of our other vehicles. And it is way more roomy and comfortable for road trips. Those are the reasons I was planning to use it this summer. DAMMIT!

I'm going to hand them over for some overnights here and there the rest of the summer, for some pup therapy. Mister and I have not been successful so far with tiring our dogs out. I remember one day we let them run around outside for a while, then we entertained them with the flirt pole, to try to make them tired enough to act like normal dogs when we took them to the park as planned. They still both acted like crazy dogs at the park that day. Not really crazy dogs, but unruly and disobedient because they wanted to greet every person and dog, despite our commands, and they wanted to sniff all the things and chase whatever small animals they saw. I’ve read a million times that a tired dog is a happy dog, but no matter what we’ve done so far, using tools and tricks to try to keep from killing ourselves while trying to tire our dogs out, they still don’t stay tired for more than 10 minutes. Regarding the rest of the post, I’m very sorry they had to put down a fur baby. That is never easy for anyone that loves their fur babies, and it’s not insignificant when an animal lover just knows somebody else had to do it. And now imma just be nosey and ask, are M and Mooch an item, as in being in a romantic relationship with each other? Maybe I’m just clueless, but that never was a thought for me until today. And the answer is neither here nor there, I’m just being nosey, so if you choose to ignore the question, that’s good too, and I won’t ask again.

Bed is together and I am never fucking doing THAT again!!!! I will get it from a furniture store and get it delivered and put together next time. What a giant pain in the ass! Literally! My butt hurts from all the bending over and sitting on the floor. I'm too old for this. Can definitely tell this is cheapy frame but it will do for me for now. If it breaks while I'm sleeping, at least I don't have far to go to the floor. And Bretta is lying on the floor next to it looking under.

Plus my crappy twin mattress looks seriously pathetic on a queen frame. Had to put a quilt and pillows on the open part so Bretta and I don't hurt ourselves. Is it Tuesday yet?

Alright.
To Dh's credit, he was just gone a half hour.
I still didn't want to get done what I wanted to get done..
(I want to find some matching thread for my paper piecing, for those interested. I can mostly get my stitches invisible. But, since we are all cutting back, I thought I'd try joanne's first, to see what they had in a particular brand before I went to the quilt store.)
I am going to make rhubarb crisp momentarily.

And the answer is neither here nor there, I’m just being nosey, so if you choose to ignore the question, that’s good too, and I won’t ask again. yeah, we've had a bunch of conversations about it since the first time I'd heard that putting him down was a possibility and I called the rescue b/c that was the only contact # I had (I was missing a TON of details, since we hadn't been around each other while LD recuperated from knee surgery) so I knew things hadn't changed. I didn't know they had escalated as much as they had, I actually found out about the last attack on M from another friend who was checking up on me and my busted foot. as mooch said, this pup (C) was 99% pure love. it was that last 1% that was scarily unpredictable, and now they know why. one attack on mooch left him resting/napping in the spare bedroom with his arm propped up over his head. mooch told me he woke up with 90lbs of C as dead weight on his chest, waiting on Papa to wake up. he was all interested in the new boo-boo and wanted to lick it to help. he had zero recollection of anything that had happened where he had caused that new boo-boo. I'm tearing up just relaying these stories. we all had tears today. Punk did a deep dive into the toy bin, pulling out toys I've never seen her go after - they were apparently all of C's favorites. okay, I'm cleaned up now. your pups are WAY younger than mine are, and we've been couch potatoes for at least the last month since I tripped. as in, they have been leashed and under my control maybe twice during that time? I've thrown them in the car a few times to drive around wherever for a change of scenery once I started driving again, but that's it. today reassured me that I'm good to bring them back to daycare this coming week, though. I can definitely handle driving that far, and I can control them on leash without falling over haha. but as far as your two - have you considered day care at all? LD is the class clown at our place, they love him. and they really loved having the pair for a week when I boarded them last winter. but, it's good to help with socialization, and they are both generally out cold and snoring before I even get back on the highway. most daycares also have basic trainings associated, that would help with some of the other stuff you mentioned. oh, and yes - M and mooch are an item. they apparently have been since I was having the plumbing issues in this house right after I moved in. very long story short, one of the other guys was trying to move in on her while everyone was here. she'd come up to hang out with me and the pups while the guys all worked. and mooch was realizing that he needed to make a move or lose his chance. I didn't realize it til at least the following summer, TBH, so you're not clueless. he seemed surprised until I pointed out that to me, their dynamic looks EXACTLY the same as it was from the day I met her. he paused a beat and conceded the point. lol...

Keep going Countrygirl! When we left Nebraska, I packed 93 totes full of possessions. We also had a huge moving sale and gave away items to family. I filled the dumpster every week for 6 months before the move. That house was 4500 sq. ft. and had two outbuildings that we had filled. I hope I learned my lesson and never let my hoard get so big again. Those last weeks of moving were truly physically and mentally exhausting.
DH and I now own 3 smaller houses, but we try to keep each of them more like a vacation rental with just a few personal things around. Being gone from one for several months and then coming back with a fresh set of eyes has shown me that the clutter needs to go. I have taken the attitude that Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist can store my seldom used stuff for me.
When I finish my basement bathroom project, there's going to be a purge of what remains in the basement. Less is more.

That sucks. I wondered what happened to that dog. Sounds like they did what they could.

Made it back. Driveway is functional, landscaping is 2/3 done (they haven’t put in the sod yet.). I have tomorrow to recover and get up to speed but still feeling very lumpish.
We enjoyed the waterfalls and natural waterslide rock in the smokies, and had fun doing a flume mining gemstone thing. Related, we now have a crapload of gemstones of various sizes, including some presumably not very valuable rubies and sapphires and a few emeralds. Varied in size from giant hunks of holy cow, that inches-wide alleged ruby is kind of pink/translucent if you shine a flashlight through it, to gem size but uncut. I think I’ll get some jewelry wire and twist some of the similar-sized sapphire chunks into a kind of necklace. Garnets as recovered are about the size of chestnuts. Lots of amethyst, amazonite etc too…and labradorite is really cool. It looks boring and grey from one angle but then wildly colored from another.
DS is pleased to be back and reunited with his pool. DH is rinsing out the pool filters that apparently the landscapers or concrete guys clogged.

Sounds like they did what they could. they really did. and they both could hardly stay in the room when they showed me they'd put the box with his ashes in the big bay window, where he'd bark at traffic going by. box, his collar on top, and a swatch of fur. in the fallout of my calling the rescue awhile back, mooch said to me that he wasn't giving this pup back to be adopted out to anyone else, where he could maim or kill a small child with the unpredictable. that he was going to love this boy every day of his life, whether it ended in weeks or months after more of this stuff, or if it was 15 years from now and he just went to sleep. and that's exactly what they did. and shit, now I'm crying again.

We just discovered that someone tried to break into our garage. The only angle of approach that the camera doesn't capture is someone coming directly from the neighbor's back yard. The neighbors who have no apparent source of income and sit on the porch smoking weed all day, but I don't want to point fingers. Anyway, we ordered a new camera mount and will install the extra camera early in the week. Also, super handy DH reinforced something or other to make it harder to break into.
