I'm so sorry you're dealing with all of this. Wish you lived closer so some of your ymam friends could help out. Are there any delivery services in your community that could just drop off your meals and/or groceries? I am too far from town in a small town of 2000, so no delivery services. My sister insists she needs to drive me but is not happy that I insist she wear a mask. She wanted to know how she will be protected from me on the way home Her BIL just died last week after going to the doctor and testing positive for Covid but she insists he did not die of Covid. Just talked to DN3 and he will pick up my meals on Wednesday and bring them out. He has been prepared for how I will look. If my eyes swell, I would have had to skip that week. DN3 and I have had a deal since 2020 about getting food to each other if we were laid up. I got very upset with him when he was telling me about doing grocery pick up when the 3 of them were very sick with Covid. He dropped off food I paid for when I had the blood clots. By the next week, I will drive myself to get the sutures out and then get my own meals on Wednesday. My sister also thinks we need to communicate better. We've been over this, your sister is an ass.

We have always had paid off houses, if we had a loan it was 5 years or less. We bought cheap, paid cash, then fixed them up. This was the first house we have bought that was really nice and move in ready. I told him I was too tired to redo anymore. So yep all 4 of our houses left are paid for. But we need to get cash back out of them pretty quickly if we can. I am not comfortable about our future under either president. One is a disaster, the other could drop dead or be unable to serve at any time. And I just hope his replacement will be able to do a good job. So I want to get our money out. I have seen the housing market crash several times in our lifetime.

Just put fresh sugar water in one of the hummingbird feeders. We have a nice steady rain going. It was wild and thundery earlier. I just LOVE the sound of rain. Nice swishy sound. The clouds are hanging low over the mountain across the road. I love when the birds use the porch for refuge when it is stormy. The forecast was finally right. Rain has been in the forecast for a couple weeks now, and only one day did it rain. Really messes up with deciding whether to water plants or not! The sun is trying to come out, so I stepped out to see if there is a rainbow, and sure enough! IMG_2177 by Fl Cheesehead, on Flickr It has been super hot here. The hummingbirds appreciated when I filled the feeders with cold brew. ❤️

DH surprised the ever-loving &*%#@ out of me tonight. We are all waiting to see where Hurricane Beryl is going with fair odds it will impact Texas. I have a friend in the neighborhood who, like us, is alone, and has a disease that makes it impossible for her to tolerate high temps. And she has a dog which limits her options for going to a shelter. I told DH that, if Beryl impacts us, and our home is undamaged and our generator works, I feel we need to invite her to bunk with us for a spell. And he 100% agreed Now, DH doesn't particularly like people or dogs, and we have this tiny house, but he's willing to have this woman and her rescue dog bunk with us for an indefinite period. Damn! Maybe he isn't quite the a-hole I think somedays.

Can you pay extra on each payment, that will knock years off the loan. There are calculators you can put the balance into and do what if to see.
My son has the money to pay his off. He is paying 2.99% and earning more than that so far, so he wants to leave the money invested.

Different way of life now compared to our early and mid married life. People went out to eat rarely, cars and houses were smaller and simpler. Houses had often only 1 bathroom later second but small bath in main BR. Kitchens were pretty utilitarian. Avocado green or harvest gold! Seemed luxurious compared to our parents little kitchens. Cars were mostly smaller sedans. Now when driving most of the cars look pretty new and big. Forty years ago lots more jalopies that had rust or primer waiting for cheap paint job . Earl SHEIN $100 We lived frugally not spending much other than tuition for private HS and college for 3 kids and Med school tuition for one. No loans but of course tuitions were much more realistic. Thinking loans made it easier for colleges to raise tuitions to ridiculous smounts I didn’t know anyone who traveled to Europe or the Caribbean till maybe I was 15 years out of college. Companies we worked for had little to offer for retirement programs after pensions disappeared. We really didn’t start saving seriously till after the tuition years were done. When kids were in school we spent vacations with family ‘down the shore’. Went out to eat maybe less than 10 times year. Yes our house is paid for but priorities were on kids education and paying off house. Then seriously saving. Now we can take nice vacations, eat out when we want but not without going through lots of frugal years. So people can look at Boomers and say they are doing well but don’t think about the earlier years Remember when it was affordable to go down the shore?! It's cheaper to go to the Caribbean for a week instead of getting a shore house now!

I dropped off the clothing in the back seat at the free store. It is open till 8:30 I found. Picked up scrips and some items at Walmart, got a watermelon. ol I had put stuff from the garage by the road, there's a lot more. While I was loading fabric someone stopped in a nice car and loaded all that stuff up, so that's gone. I hope to put the rest out tomorrow and clear the garage getting ready for the next time. I really think the kitties won't mind being in. There are 2 or 3 sets of double doors they can look out of and they will like that. Also lots of windows. Like I said keeping Tig in likely won't be a problem, but Smoke we will see. Where this subdivision is there are no close houses. It's kind of isolated on the edge of the city proper. Even kind of hard to find from the road, so that is a positive for us. I'm betting there will be a lot of new residents out there as I'm thinking a lot are late 70's and 80's since few have sold. It was set up in 2006 so being 55 then they are old even if they bought into it at 55. The only way Smoke would be euthanized is if I can't keep him and am made to get rid of him. He just will not warm up to people, the vet and I are not sure he ever will. My son would try to take him, but hopefully none of that has to happen. He is my little love and it would really hurt me more than I can say, so we will do whatever to protect him and try to work it out.
I'm home, have jams on. The car is loaded with fabric, tomorrow I will load clothing too and get rid of that. I'm going to tape together a big box and see if I can put most of the other stuff in it and put it by the road. Then we can start again. You can give your baby kitty prozac! It will calm him down. My DS3 has a beautiful cat who is an absolute demon! They started giving him prozac and he is much, much calmer.

EVERYONE that I know with a paid off house are boomers. My parents are boomers and have a paid off house in a LCOLA - their choice. Sounds like your parents are part of "the silent generation" and made bad choices. You say you have lived other places yet you have chosen to stay in a HCOLA. Why? You have no family there holding you back. Keep playing the "victim". So what you're saying is that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. I agree. I completely understand why you wrote this, but I have to say that this kind of thinking is why I’m so weird about certain things, because I do NOT want people to judge me by the shady shit my Mom has done my whole life, and let my Aunt tell it, before I was even born. It stresses me out to be in a position where anybody could even think I’ve possibly been funny with money, or have acted without integrity, even with people that don’t even know my Momma. That is why I was so triggered by the shit Mister was saying last year, insinuating that I was something akin to a gold digger, but that’s a whole ‘nother story. Not only did this apple manage to roll far from the tree I fell from, I tried to roll out of the entire orchard. My Mom was not true to the tree she fell from, because she was nothing like my Grandmother, who was a giver and did not manipulate and try to use people. But my Grandmother was also an enabler for my Mom, and I learned that I have enabler tendencies too. Which is why I tried to just get out of the whole orchard, because the roots were planted with love and good intentions, but the trees and fruit got kind of wonky despite the love and good intentions. I apologize for going on a tangent, but the post reminded me that one of the worst and most triggering things somebody could say to me is that I’m just like my Mom and the fruit didn’t fall far from the tree. I understand that that is all about my own personal hang ups, but those hang ups are so real and strong, that I couldn’t just let it go without commenting on it.

It's 8 and I'm thinking about going to bed. i am really worn down.
I did manage to pack 2 boxes today also. Have almost cleared out the hutch in the dining room, so that's good.

Yeah. It's on the list. I would have showered yesterday if I had something to do. I did take a walk, but I didn't get all sweaty. Today, I took a walk and got sweaty. And I'm starting to feel a little gross. I hope you know I wasn’t judging. I just know that showering is a form of self care, and if you’ve gone several days without a shower, I was just encouraging you to practice some self care tonight. Take a long one, set the scene if you can, maybe with some candles and relaxing music playing if that’s your thing, and use your favorite soaps during and nice potions and lotions after, and try to enjoy tending to you. Just be giramomma, the person…. tending to gira….. Not gira the wife, Momma, daughter or employer. I apologize if I am overstepping and maybe projecting, since the occasional long shower, set up the way I described, feels good to me. I understand that YMMV. No. No. I know you weren't judging me! I appreciate that you are looking out for me!! It's funny how changing to mostly work at home has changed things. It will be a good way to relax. I have my interview on Tuesday, and I need to actually fall asleep before midnight the next couple nights.

And, because I know you all need to know this. I have no idea when the last time I showered was. Seriously. I think it was Wednesday. I think you might wanna take a shower tonight. I would be so stank. I have to shower at least once day. That and I can't smell bad. Say whatever you want about me, nobody will ever say that I stink.

Watching the women's gymnastics Olympic qualifiers and thoroughly enjoying it. I must admit that aside from seeing these wonderful performances I love when they show the parents of the athletes. They are so proud, and rightfully so, of their kids

Cookies galore yes it’s expensive to go down the shore in NJ now. But now all the small cape Cods and tiny bungalows are being knocked down and huge McMansions built. And elaborate McMansions too not just big. So again, times have changed . There are a lot of high income folks here or else they’re living paycheck to (big) paycheck but living an outward appearing good life.

I think some of the generation stuff is arbitrary. Bob and I are both millennial but we're worlds apart in our formative years with him being 1990 and me 1983. Depending on the article I can also be Gen X. But I'm totally different than DH born in 73. Even more so with his siblings. My parents are more Gen X than boomers. My mom was a bra burning hippy third wave feminist having come of age in the 60s and 70s. That being said I do think there is a point where you need to step aside. I am not even sure it's about age though that is certainly factor. An 80 year old who recognizes the world has changed and surrounds themselves with younger people who cam guide them? Maybe. An 80 year old whose speeches sound like they came from the Antebellum South? And surrounded themselves with people who agree? Not so much. I think "cusp" babies are a little of both really when it comes to way of life/thinking. I was born in 1978 so I can see both sides of the Gen X/millennial coin. I also have shared experiences. I'd day the older Gen X can also say the same about their boomer counterparts. We're Xennials, baby! I'm 1981 and husband is 1978.

I think you might wanna take a shower tonight. I would be so stank. I have to shower at least once day. That and I can't smell bad. Say whatever you want about me, nobody will ever say that I stink. The building I work in is so nasty and dirty that from Day 1, I wouldn’t even sit on my furniture with my work clothes on. That is still true. But for over 20 years, I also would not get in my bed without taking a shower to get my work germs off my body, because I am somewhere close to being a germaphobe, and do not like “outside” germs on or in my bed. I don’t sit anything on my bed that has been out in public. So when during the last couple of years, I started saying f it some nights, and not taking a shower before I went to bed, that was a true sign that things were not right with me mentally. Because even when I said f it, I also felt “YUCK”. But I was already fighting about dogs on my bed with their germs, and Mister coming to bed with dog germs on him, so in my mind my bed was already nasty except for the night after I put clean linens on it and put effort into making sure no dogs, doggie germs, or unwashed bodies touched it, so besides that one night, what difference did it make if it I didn’t feel like taking a shower since I was going to lay down in an a nasty bed anyway. I’m not judging anybody that doesn’t mind their dogs/pets on their beds and/or doesn’t feel the same way I do about their bed that I do. I’m just saying that when I gave up on my last and most private space that I felt that I should’ve been able to keep to my standard of cleanliness if nothing else was, it really meant something about my mental health. For my whole adult life, I’ve taken at least one shower every single day, until the last couple of years. And for me, when I stopped doing that, it was a sign of something bigger than my desire to keep my body clean. But that’s just me and my personal issues and habits, and I understand that many people do things differently than I do, and that’s okay if what they do works for them.

Another doggie post…..
I was just now sitting outside with Newbie when Mr. T came outside and one of his dogs came out of his fence. I immediately told Newbie to go in the garage, so I could make her go in the house if necessary. I didn’t want any smoke with Mr. T and his dogs, that are much more well trained than mine.
Mr. T saw me shooing Newbie into the garage and he yelled across the yard to tell me that everything was good, the dog that came out of his fence was under control.
I try to be a good neighbor and a responsible dog owner, but I’d rather be the kind of dog owner that Mr. T doesn’t even have to concern himself with our dogs and whether they might be outside. I really, really appreciate him for that, I just know it’s not his responsibility and would like for it to not even something he has to think about.

In the past 5 years or so I don't know what has happened to me, I don't know if it's something hormonal of more serious, but I SWEAT like nobody's business. It's only 61 degrees outside and I went out to trim for a little while...it couldn't have been more than 30 minutes...and my hair looks like I just stepped out of the shower, it's literally soaking wet.
Anyhow, the end result is, going more than 24 hours without a shower is not a good idea if there is any chance I am going to come in contact with another human.

Hey everyone! I have been kind of busy this weekend. Glad CG did well on the rummage sale. Andi-I wanted to know what was up with your house hunt, but I missed it if you posted an update. I was born in 1964, the last year of the baby boom generation. We owe about $89,000 on our house. 2.7% interest. I could pay it off.
I just realized they are putting my extra payment to the future rather than principal. I will have to call and complain. Last time I complained they said I needed to kill my auto pay and do a new one, so I did, and same sh!t. Grr. I will hold off on paying it off cause we might sell rental and buy something else. (My DH was born in 65, he is Gen X. My Son is a Millenial (1992) and DD is Gen Z (1997).
Also, my first job out of my 2 year AA degree we had a 401k and a pension. I liquidated the 401 K to buy our 1st house. Next job also had a 401k and a pension. I know the match was good, but don’t remember exactly what it was. I started there in 1991 and left 1st time in 2000. Then went back later for a few more years. I rolled over my pension to an IRA and still have my 401k with them.
DH and I bummed around a bit today. He wants a light weight mower he can easily lift in/out of his truck. We went to 2 Home Depots and a Lowes. We had Lunch at a Greek Restaurant. I also got a mani-pedi this am. Nm nails are red/white/blue and toes are red.
In other news, we had hail damage to our roof in May, the insurance offered us $29,000. We need to find a few reputable roofers to give us quotes, and decide if offer is reasonable.

Sleeping is futile tonight. Spent 1.5 hrs trying. ☹️
Before I headed to bed, I stepped out on the porch to see if there were any yard visitors. It was still light out. The birds were still back and forth at the feeders, the fireflies are still blinking like nobody’s business. There was a doe down near the stream, and I was quite surprised to see a skunk nosing around.

Sweet, Carrot's bus will be back before 11pm. Originally it was assumed it would be sometime after midnight. They won the state championship for their class but better than that, they won crowd favorite of all the bands for the 2nd year in a row.

Good morning, boomxennialy invisipeeps as you manage your lives and real estate holdings. Welcome to Monday morning, you sure look fine. I hope your day presents only readily solvable problems and points to a bright future, be it the next day, week or five years. I hope no miscreants sit on your pizza and that cookies are available to savor. Today I will help DD prepare for her first day, tomorrow, of her new job. She'll be in training for 2 days to start. She needs to have her new scrubs hemmed, so we/I need to find where to get that done. I think she'll be working with patients starting next week. They use equipment like what she'd used at the hospital for vital signs, medication dispensing, IV pumps and the like, so she'll be on familar territory there. She's nervous and excited. Yesterday we took the day for R&R after the show. We have another this Saturday if it doesn't rain. If it does, we'll go to Sunday. These shows entail a lot of physical labor to pack, set up, break down and unpack. It was very foggy yesterday morning. I took this picture a couple of days ago, of the sun setting in a curve of clouds over the hurricane barrier:

Thanks! I managed another 2 hours in the recliner after I got up. Still going to be a long day.

checking in. I did sleep on the couch last night, dozing off during gymnastics. I'm a bit annoyed to see that LD isn't downstairs with Punk and me, now that I'm awake again. he must have gone upstairs at some point. maybe I won't be sleeping down here all week...
