At the airport - flight delayed from 520 to 718, so far. Puts me in Austin just before 10pm. Luckily hotel is less than 10 minutes from airport, and training tomorrow doesn't start until 9am.
So, I am currently having a Crabby Mary - a spicy bloody Mary with a crab claw - and chatting people up.

They just look really fakey and cartoonish. Kind of like being in a video game. Also, I looked at the Google street view and the house is much different on the outside than the pictures, but it does say it was recently renovated. depending on where the property is located, the street views can be pretty old. Ours shows a bunch of shrubbery that were long gone when we bought the house in 2020. If I had to guess, the image was taken fairly close to when the house was built, so somewhere around 2010. Street view of my house is seven years old. The neighbor's house hasn't been flipped yet and there's a church property that's now an empty lot.

Well, in my seemingly never ending quest to get rid of old paperwork today I found report cards/grade sheets/awards (who really needs to keep those stupid dean's lists certificates)/ribbons/diplomas/etc. SOOOO much shredding to be done. There is too much information on these things to just toss. With a bit of ingenuity you could build an entire new "me" that could withstand a cursory identity check.
I kept a few items of which my favorite is my "Traffic Safety Diploma" from fifth grade. We had traffic safety classes capped off by a written and practical exam - a preset bicycle route in my town we had to ride with cops hidden away to check if you followed the traffic rules. I was so proud to have passed those tests with honors as I had to ride the route on a borrowed bicycle - no money for my own bike. Anyway, I'm keeping that thing.

Damn, I didn't even think about SS security numbers. I just worried about my rather unique international educational journey. Well, it's all shredded now so that is a bullet dodged.

I just couldn't muster up the intestinal fortitude to try hooking up the new modem which will either go well or result in my being on the phone with a tech person for hours with no TV or internet service for days. Tomorrow is another day and I'll have a go at it then.

Boy I don't know about the sellers, they are wishy washy. First we agreed to a price, now an inspection and the roof needs replaced. Now they agreed to come down $10k on the price for the roof. But oh they are getting calls on the property now, more calls. So who knows what they are going to do. We may or may not have bought a house. It would not surprise me if they withdraw. I thought once you had agreement, but I guess they have to do final sign off. I guess we will see what they are going to do.

The vet had to go to an animal call on site, likely horse or farm animal. Besides they want them to have gabapentin, I don't know if I can get it down them or not. Guess the first I will push down their throat., the other two I'm not sure. The cats are just wild with other people, I don't understand why they are so afraid of others. They have never been treated with anything but love by all of us. Now they adore hubs too and DD, but that seems to be it.

My first Medicare card had my SSN on it.

How else would they be able to differentiate one student from the other?

I'd really hope all schools had figured it out by then....

So much of my history was tossed in one large envelope. My DM was not exactly kind to me. She came over and literally threw the envelope at me. The first thing I looked at started as an apology from an old boyfriend. Because of him and DM, I did not go to any dances or school activities. At the end of the first few sentences, the entire envelope went to the trash. I have had my identity stolen. One was someone using my credentials where I sent in a resume to a box number. This was late 90s. That woman had help from and HR person. The way that got stopped was I was expert at shorthand. ID theft had no idea what that was. She got all the way to a telephone interview where I revealed that bit of information. I said give her a shorthand test. The woman got up and ran out. I doubt anything happened to her even those she was interviewing at a bank.
There is two other instances but I won't go on..

My school ID in the 80's was my social security number and grades were posted on the walls by the last 4 digits. Also often when you wrote checks to the school they had you write your SS number on the check. Some people even had the number printed on the checks along with their address and or DL number. I don't worry about it much...I figure everyone's info is out there and been compromised at one time or another, probably multiple times. I just keep an eye on everything in case anything wonky happens.

Back in 60’s and 70’s if you wrote check to store they asked for social security and drivers license for ID. At one time I had my SS# on drivers license. That lasted for 4 year license then “they” started to think about SS# being vulnerable. Like you, I keep eye on everything due to the wonky factor! ![](https://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff155/JiminiChristmas/ymamsmiles/wink.png) Eta. I ran across papers from school and the used my fathers military numbers instead of my SS#. Haven’t thought about in forever.

I am done for the day.
I've done all the work I need to.
I made dinner today, and we did enough chores over the weekend that I don't need to scramble to do them.
I'm going out for a walk. And then I can work on hobbies.
It does feel very strange.

I started my undergrad in fall 2002. Our SSNs were our IDs. Grades posted by the last 4 digits. It switched by my senior year to made up numbers.
DH started before me. His SSN was his ID longer than mine. His identity was stolen many years later but that was because OPM let our personnel files be stolen.
Funny thing on that there's now unclaimed property from this in Florida. Guess they abandoned the bank account they set up trying to get a HELOC on our house. I need to remind him to claim that. $500 is $500!

On our kitchen renovation, we had to have a carpenter remove cabinets and raise them 1/2”. When he did we found a 3/4 full rum bottle. DH thinks he it was from 1987 based on a tag. House was built in 1989. It had a price sticker for $4, so it must be pretty old.

That Sheltie needs to leave Iowa and move to MN! Well, I'm going on the record as expecting the balance to be at least 50K. I don't know how it would be less than that as that would mean only $1000 for the new window and 2K for all the extra work of fixing rotted wood underneath.

I am done for the day. DONE. my dad had to be taken to the ER last night bc he had a fever and couldn’t sit up unassisted. And my mom can’t do much to help him, he’s a big guy. So I had to hop a plane today to come help, bc my mom is ALSO sick. She has Covid, the ER diagnosed my dad with a sinus infection. I don’t know if I believe that, so I’m making take a Covid test before his telehealth follow up with his PCP. all I know is, I forsee a move for ME (and DH of course ![](https://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff155/JiminiChristmas/ymamsmiles/wink.png) ) next year to be closer to them. Bc my dad is not getting younger/better/steadier and living a 3 hour plane ride away is too inconvenient. My sister has talked about moving closer, but that’s just a short term bandaid solution, if she even makes the move. Ugh.

I'm driving by this one tonight. Thanks! Also, what filters are you using? This didn't come up in my search and I've been stalking zillow for weeks. Y'all this house is a hell no. The front looks like the picture. The driveway looks funny because it's gravel. It has no backyard. I didn't get out of the car, but from what I could see from the street, there is the house and then it drops off into woods.

ohh, I found a box like that when I started purging here in this current place. the box contained a whole bunch of papers and shit from college, when my school still used SSN as student IDs. ![](https://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff155/JiminiChristmas/ymamsmiles/yikes.png) I also found a stack of other people's stuff when I was an upperclassman mentor to incoming freshmen. I made sure I shredded all of their shit as well. that's terrifying to me in 2024. I may have told this story before. About 15 years ago I was working for a university and needed to download information about undergrads. When I pulled the list, it provided their SSN's too. I was looking at a file of 25-30K social security numbers. Even then I knew that wasn't good! I really hope that wouldn't happen today. Our SS # used to be on our time cards at my job. The whole number. After I started having an issue with that, I made it clear during a meeting. At that time, our SSN’s must have also been in the papers we had to sign, saying we had attended the meeting. So because I (use to lol) have a better than average memory, after the point of the meeting was done, I said that having our SS #’s so easily available, was a problem. I had memorized a coworker’s SSN when the paper was passed to me to sign, just in the time it took me to add my signature and when I repeated it to him (in his ear, even though it was printed for everybody to see) to prove my point, I had memorized it correctly. I’m not sure I could do it today, but I could also memorize credit card numbers if I wanted to. We have been divorced almost 30 year now, and I still know my ex husband’s SS number as well as I know my own, and I don’t even know my children’s SSN’s like that. I made it my business to know his SSN while we were married, and decades later, it is still embedded or whatever, in my brain so much so that I can rattle it off just as easily as I can my own SSN. He and his current wife would have strokes if they knew that. So understanding how my memory works (or did, before I got old lol), being able to remember long strings of numbers after just seconds of looking at them and what that made me capable of if I had bad intentions, made me very wary after identity theft became a big thing. Because I know that I’m not so special that I’m the only person in earth that can do that, it started to and still does worry me that other people that have the same abilities can use them for nefarious purposes. A few years ago, I told Mister I could do that and he didn’t believe me. So I told him to tell me a phone number that he knows well, and if he randomly asked what that phone number was after he told it to me, I’d be able to tell him what it was. So he gave me what turned out to be his parents’ landline phone number, and for some months, I was able to repeat it randomly. I had no reason to make sure I remembered it for forever, so idk it anymore, but I remembered it long enough to prove to him that I could do what I said. I am kind of creeping my own self out by admitting all of that.

Third modem was compatible but yes indeed took hours online with techs But I’m a stubborn bitch. So annoyed that a cable tech took my modem when we had a problem and replaced with a rented modem. Very happy and smug that I got it done!

The window was $875 and the rotted wood $1650. Grand total for my little summer siding project that I was expecting to be 45K? $89972...and I still have to do some electrical and get my septic alarm fixed. Good lord. I'm going to go drink on the deck.
