My headstone has everything on it except DOD! I figure my son will just add that with a black magic marker. Same for me, except that it's my niece and nephews. I actually have two headstones in two different cemeteries. After I visit the 2nd cemetery in the fall, I may have cremains in two different cemeteries. If you didn't grow up like I did visiting cemeteries all of the time, I had the first headstone put where at the cemetery I like the most. I have now discovered most of my dad's relatives are buried there. I also have a headstone beside my parents and my mom's relatives are buried there. I will be with everybody!!!! My cremation is prepaid. I had already put some money into a fund at a local mortuary but ended up going to a much cheaper one size fits all place. Stuff can be added after the person dies. There's a good chuck of money that is payable on death to that place that I've told my nephew to use for the boring things like dates and to throw a party. I grew up next door to a cemetery. Used to take notebook paper and #2 pencil and do rubbings of some of the designs they carved on the headstones back in the day when that was the norm. Somewhere in a few moves I lost those rubbing. Playing hide and seek was the norm in the cemetery but we never stepped on a grave. But we did go into the really old part and some of the gravesites had started to sink and we would try to move the slab to see into the grave!! Now you pEEps can understand why I am the way I am One of the first things I check out when traveling is old cemeteries to visit. I never had any family graves to visit in cemeteries so it is just a fascination with them in general from childhood.

Yay! Got DS's car back so I get to sleep in tomorrow. Although I did get like 6 hours of OT this week already from coming in early. More than covers what I paid to fix the car and he didn't have to buy gas this week.

Doing grocery pick up so today I can stew about Amelia having a dental done. If it was done today, hope everything went smoothly and she is back home showing off her pearly whites. It's tomorrow for Amelia. They lose access to food in 45 minutes.

I never had any family graves to visit in cemeteries so it is just a fascination with them in general from childhood. Three cars full of parents and kids had picnics at our favorite cemetery. It was our favorite because it had and still has the school bell from where my mom and her siblings went to the one room school house. For many years, we drove past the house where 13 children were born in the same room. Sadly the farm has now been sold and the house torn down. My uncle is an auctioneer. He said it was the most emotional thing he had ever sold. Somehow I have about 25 copies of the newspaper article on the sale.

Grew up next to a cemetery also. We used to take the ribbons off flowers on new burials and use them to make doll clothes. Yes very weird but we loved the pretty colors

There's an old cemetery in the woods near my house. It was looking pretty bad, but in the past couple years someone has been going down there mowing it and the kids said there's a sign now with names of the people there. There must be veterans in there because every Memorial Day the VFW does a 21 gun salute out on the road in front of my house. They don't actually go down there because it's a minimum maintenance road and they'd need ATVs to get there or have to walk the whole way.

I feel like I'm boiling. What I want more than anything is a cold, juicy red grapefruit....SO refreshing!
I'm not allowed any grapefruit since my heart attacks.

It's 104 degrees here in the Frozen North. I do not have AC. I cannot remember whether or not you've answered this in the past or not, but is it possible to put a window unit in to give you some relief?

It was an oven outside today or more like a spa. It only got to 92 but 77% humidity. I kept thinking of the Hispanics out there in the melon fields picking. Hubs said I used to do it and put-up hay too. Yeah, but they were young boys, some of the guys doing this work aren't so young.
I got everything done but press little guys pants and shirt and my pants. I'm about to head down and do that now.
My cats went out a couple of times today, but mainly stayed in the house or basement. That tells me it's hot.
I have the place looking pretty decent. Oh things, still need done but it's ok. Little guy picked up almost all his toys for me. DD cleaned her bathtub. I'm not sure how good as we have a softener and our tubs rarely get dirty, still nice of her. I got porchs cleaned, hubs mowed the lawn, I straightened up the garage and wiped down webs and blew stuff out. Cleaned my car inside, outside is clean. Laundry done, dishes done, hair washed for DD, grandson cleaned up early. He didn't say anything, he knows. I told hubs I'm driving down later, as I don't want the kids to have to sit there for hours. We will come right before the service, he is taking his phone and DD is going with us so she can sit in the car with him. DD is not capable of staying home with him and watching him, so he needs to go. Son said I couldn't have even gotten there this quick, I told him it's ok and it is. Since it's a closed casket and all son said that shouldn't bother him, don't have much choice.
Tonight, so I didn't have to clean again, we went to Subway for dinner. I wanted to go to a good restaurant as did hubs, but both kids wanted Subway, so that's ok.
Ok, night all, getting ready to go downstairs and iron and to bed so "see" you all tomorrow. Sleep well, hope I do.

Most people here don't own one because it's so rare to have temps this high for longer than a day or two. Not any more!

This kind of heat cannot be good for your heart, etc., not to mention how miserable you and Sushi (spelling?) must be.

my Nana refused to add hers to the headstone while she was alive. she was 4y older than my grandfather, and it was absolutely a sore spot for her. I haven't been up to her grave in a lot longer than I'd care to admit rn, but the last time I was there, her dates still weren't engraved. I'd offered awhile back to pay for it (when my parents were in a $ rut) even though her sons had WAY more $ than my parents, but my mom declined. I think I need to look into this again, and whether I need the plot paperwork in order to pay for the chiseling to be done. thank you for the reminder for this, and that I need to get back up there. She sound like my EX MIL. I used to say she wouldn't file for SS because then everyone would know she had reached 65 I've been 22 for almost 22 years. I probably should skip to 30 now that the girls are 22 and 24.

Good morning, invisible luminaries of Y Ma'am. Welcome to Thursday. I hope yours goes smoothly and easily and you all find relief from the misery of humid heat. I hope the service goes well today, countrygirl2, and your family finds comfort and peace. Today the window AC should arrive. It was supposed to come yesterday, but delays happen. Also, today DSis is coming to help with putting up shades and other things, and just because. It's so nice to live near enough to her to see each other often. She's just 45 minutes away.

Good morning, all! Feel like I can sit down for a few minutes and relax a bit. We’ve had a busy few weeks. DW started her new job and we’ve been carpooling so that we can avoid buying a second car. It helps that she is expected to work from home 2 days a week due to desk shortages! So only 3 days of carpooling, ten minutes away from my job, more than manageable.
Chia the kitty is growing so fast, I had forgotten how fast kittens grow. She stepped on my laptop yesterday and actually video called my boss (the managing director and founder of the company). I had to hang up and shoot him a quick “I’m sorry. My cat called you” message. His reply? “Excellent”.
Other than the at, trying to stay warm and spend time with DD without smothering her with mom time!

Kids generally handle this pretty well, especially under these circumstances. She lived a long, full life well beyond the average life expectancy and he won't feel a sense of loss because he didn't really know her. My grandchildren lost their grandfather on the other side in January after a 2-year battle with cancer. They were actually in the house when he died. Calling hours were open casket and they went over a few times to see him. He was a really good man, very involved in their lives. They miss him, of course- even the 3-year old mentions him sometimes- but I think DS and DDIL did a good job of letting them experience death as a part of life. Grew up next to a cemetery also. We used to take the ribbons off flowers on new burials and use them to make doll clothes. Yes very weird but we loved the pretty colors Not all that weird. It's recycling! They would have faded and been removed eventually anyway. When BF and I go on road trips we frequently visit cemeteries where his family members are buried. Parents are in the military cemetery at Leavenworth (Dad was a WW II vet), many family members in a little church yard in Stolpe, MO, others in Nebraska where we visited after the Berkshire-Hathaway meeting in Omaha, and in Iowa. He's actually doing a road trip with his brother to visit a few of them in a couple of weeks. He's speculated on whether he'll be the last generation to visit these sites. In-ground burial is getting so expensive and people are so mobile I suspect more are opting for cremation. Having survived the Garden Club tour and two Zoom meetings last night, today I'm headed for the blood bank and a nearby Costco.

He would introduce me as his twin sister going forward. Now I can’t lie about old age because he won’t lie about his. It’s hard to say I’m 60 when he tells folks he’s 56.

I have two HANGRY cats this morning. In 10 minutes, one gets loaded in to her carrier. The other one gets fed. He will be a happy camper. She will not be a happy camper but will feel nothing until she comes out of the anesthesia.
They have been all over me since 3:30 AM. I am ready for a nap.
I do now know that if I die here, they will eat me.

Kid forgot to drive with me carting him around for a week. Left his headlights on when he got to work today. Good thing his mom works at the same place and noticed when she came in. In his defense he was returning his dad's car today and it doesn't have automatic headlights like all of ours do.

Woke up about 4:30 this morning sneezing. I have probably sneezed 30 times since then. Once the sneezing started, I was up, no going back to sleep. No idea what has touched this off.

My mom had a heart attack and is in critical condition. oh no! sending huge hugs and healing vibes. She's beating on her own but her blood pressure is still low. I called my brother to come up he hates hospitals but I can't carry dad and myself alone. DH is coming up soon. I'm shaking so bad I can barely hold the phone.
