My Husband and I are married 30 years in October. The best Man from our Wedding told us we needed to have a party, and offered to pay for the food. I told DH that I really did not want a party. DH told me he felt the same way. I was glad we talked about it, because he asked about it again. My SIL said she felt the same way about their 25th. My parents are 4 years from their 50th anniversary. We'll be having a big party with an actual booked venue and DJ. I'm having that catered too. I'm also hiring someone to set up and clean up.

I sure hope my kid's car is done today. This carpooling at 5:30am BS is getting old. I need my beauty sleep. No way could I be up and functional at 5:30. I start work at 7:30 and I wake up at 7:00. Sometimes at 7:30 and I walk out of one room into the other and log in and then go downstairs for a little bit so everyone can pee and I can wash my face and wake up.

I told DS about the Elvis movie I saw last night.
-Who's Elvis? -He sold a billion records, worldwide. -What's a record?

Oh, my goodness, I knew people liked my husband. But he has been retired 7 years. As of early this morning, he had 195 condolences, there are about 35 on mine, but I'm sure most are accessing his facebook. We sure never expected that. They are coming in now from S America, Portugal, Africa, Indonesia, Canada, and the US. I know when they had his brother's funeral, it was one of the biggest the county had seen.
Little guy is excited, I bought him the small cans of Pepsi and he can now open one. He said I can now do that too, LOL!
But he did get upset because I did not slice his tomato thin enough on his sandwich like Subway does. He told me I needed to make him another sandwich. I told him, you have got to be kidding, there is no way I am. I sliced the tomato thinner and if you don't eat the rest of that you are done. He shut up and ate it. I said I hope you don't act like that with mom and dad if you do, no wonder you aggravate them.
Hubs said I didn't expect but 1 or 2 people at mom's funeral and he said you know people could come by the house. We never even thought about that. So we are both in a frenzy straightening things. The house is a mess because little guy is living out of suitcases and I just let him play everywhere, so toys all over. We decided we better do some quick pick up and cleaning so we are. Of course, if we do this noone will come by, but if we don't someone will. So back at it. It needs done anyway, things, had gotten pretty messy.
Son called today with some house listings up there. I told him I think hubs is fibbing to us about moving. Hubs said I didn't lie, but I didn't say I would move either. But I did get him to look at the one son was talking about and then figuring how much he could pay down until we sold houses. He does want to keep his folks house though and I don't blame him, fine with me. So who knows, it's possible. The one son found is 2 miles from Shelton, Was on 3 acres, with a small barn. The house had a new roof and hardiplank siding in the last 5 years and it does have central air. However, its part pier and post and concrete foundation, built in 1952, so nothing like what we have here and 1500 sq ft. It has part hardwood floors, part carpet, but a big kitchen. The walls and everything look nice but looks like a semi hoarder lives there so really detracted from showing and the price, I'm sure. There is just stuff everywhere, it looks like underneath that it's a nice house. Is fenced and has an old barn and stalls for horses and a loft for hay. It has a well though and not too far from a bay, we wondered about salt water infiltration into the well. However it's right next door to a plant nursery and down the road is a kitten rescue! Oh that would be so fun, DD would love that. Hubs said he would look at it when up there if still available. If he actually gets in the mood we may find something nice. But I told him if he is not going to move then he may want to keep our income property, lots of decisions.

But I think the kids need help with grandson, here he is pretty calm, he has his days, but grandma is working on his attitude and demands. That gets nowhere with hubs and I and he doesn't argue back much. He isn't getting anywhere with us, so the household is pretty calm. Just have to see how it goes.

Anyone looking for a really neat calculator for mortgages and car buying, try this one. It's Calculator.net, best one I have found so far and pretty complete.

My house was on the Garden Club tour this morning- about 8 people stopped by between 8:30 and 10:30 AM. Mine us hardly a showplace- it's large and I hand-weed so I can't really keep up with them. A lot of the plants were not at their best in this heat, either. I got some good advice and realized I did know the names of most of the plants. The wife of the couple who owned the house was a past President of the club so many members remembered the house and the garden. No takers on my offer for anyone who wanted to take home and transplant some of the poison ivy hiding among the hostas. I don't think I'm going to be ejected from the club for having too many weeds. Later I realized that the unfinished wood furniture I keep out on the enclosed porch was pretty grimy- well, I've had it for over 20 years. Consulted the Internet and wiped it down with a mild solution of dish detergent and water. I'm going to repeat that and after it's dried thoroughly I'll give it a few coats of lemon oil.

I just got a pleasant surprise. M stopped by on her way home from a work trip, and I was grumbling about hotel pricing up near my office for next week when I need to head back in. I know, I said I was okay with that setup, but the reason I'm going in is so we can take a bus into Boston for an afternoon harbor cruise. come on, I live at the beach. I can't skip this? so I'm heading up on W, cruise is Th, I'll get back to the office just in time to sit in traffic and head home Th night. if I was going in for actual work, that would be another thing. at least I can write this stuff off on taxes as work expenses. anyway, M booked next week on points for me. she's in "Up In The Air" territory for all her FF accounts. thanks, kid! you're saving me a couple hundred bucks for what you see as chump change points.

As they say on Flyertalk, "Earn 'em and burn 'em". The airlines and hotels keep devaluing points so you're better off using them.

countrygirl2, I'm sorry to hear about your MIL. Despite the history it is never an easy thing to lose a parent. Hugs.

Waiting for the washer to be done with the sheets so I can throw the next load in. Just finished cleaning the bathroom, just need to do the floors and the next load is the bathroom rugs.

I got the porches and garage blown out plus drive and sidewalk. There is all kind of mulch staked out front, but not today. It's 92 and 77% humidity, like an oven out there. And immigrants are down on the sand picking melons, those poor guys.
Our bathroom is cleaned, DD's next and the litter boxes. I have things to pick up, but that won't take long, so the place is getting neater all the time.

I'm worried about you getting heat stroke, or illness of some kind. Seriously. Is there a library, or someplace you can go hang out, where it's air conditioned/cooler? I couldn't deal with that. But then, I don't have water near by. I live in a desert. Are you near the ocean, or anything?

Grabbed kolaches this morning before running errands - bird seed, shower pouf, liquor store and bank. We always have to make bank last stop before coming home because of jugging risk (people are followed, sometimes for hours, in hope they will make a stop and leave $$ in the car).
I made the appointment with the estate planning attorney for August 6 and started on her questionnaire. I will have to spend some time at the FedEx store copying wills, POA's, medical POA's, bank statements, brokerage statements, car titles and more before the meeting.
I'm also going to move ahead with getting a pre-paid cremation plan in place soon. Neither DH or I want any type of service so it should be quite simple. I need to check and see about the cost of putting names and dates on our columbarium niche, but I don't think I can prepay that because the Vestry changes things like that from time to time.

I haven't been up to her grave in a lot longer than I'd care to admit rn, but the last time I was there, her dates still weren't engraved. I'd offered awhile back to pay for it (when my parents were in a $ rut) even though her sons had WAY more $ than my parents, but my mom declined. I think I need to look into this again, and whether I need the plot paperwork in order to pay for the chiseling to be done. thank you for the reminder for this, and that I need to get back up there.

I thought the cost of engraving the front plate of the columbarium niche was included in the purchase price, but I still get the church newsletter and it seems they are now charging a separate fee. That's okay because I know they actually have to take the front plate to some company miles away and pick it up when the work is done. Fortunately, church policy only allows names and dates so DH can't get them to do, "The Bitch is in the Niche"

I don't think I want dates with my name - it seems pretty irrelevant. It's not like we'll be in a historic cemetery where folks walk around and say, "oh, look the mother and infant died together" or "wow, all those folks died when a ship capsized offshore" or even "gosh, half the town was wiped out by yellow fever!"

It's not a dry heat, like in a desert. It's a wet heat that makes you feel like you're swimming in hot chicken soup.

I actually have two headstones in two different cemeteries. After I visit the 2nd cemetery in the fall, I may have cremains in two different cemeteries. If you didn't grow up like I did visiting cemeteries all of the time, I had the first headstone put where at the cemetery I like the most. I have now discovered most of my dad's relatives are buried there. I also have a headstone beside my parents and my mom's relatives are buried there. I will be with everybody!!!! My cremation is prepaid. I had already put some money into a fund at a local mortuary but ended up going to a much cheaper one size fits all place. Stuff can be added after the person dies. There's a good chuck of money that is payable on death to that place that I've told my nephew to use for the boring things like dates and to throw a party.

Middle child turns 30 today. Time flies! So proud of what he has accomplished in the last 10 years, well really 12 since he started college. Went from uncommitted college freshman to accomplished graduate, with a great job, lovely house, wife and lovely daughter.

Doing grocery pick up so today I can stew about Amelia having a dental done. If it was done today, hope everything went smoothly and she is back home showing off her pearly whites.
