I threw my own party for my 75th. I had it catered and it was a lot of fun. I specified no gifts, but some ignored that and gave me a small gift anyway.

I just got back from seeing Elvis. It left me feeling defeated and depressed. I never was a big fan of his music, but now I just feel sorry for him.

We got the services taken care of today. The funeral is Thursday. MIL had done a prepaid funeral plan in 2007, long time ago. But things were left out so it cost us $1k, not bad at all. She did good getting the plan, but she was very thrifty, so we added a few things. Now I need to get accounts all reconciled and up to date. Death certificates out to places to take care of, calls to make.
Hubs said oh, no one will acknowledge this, he so far, has ended up with 135 condolences from all over the world, his facebook still doesn't key into mine, and that's fine. I don't know how many we have had locally; we are both surprised. We thought locally at her age and being in facilities so long people would not remember. We are doing closed casket, I'm sure she does not look good now. Some may think I'm wrong, but MIL was most comfortable in jeans, and a shirt, bra, and panties. She was not a hose and suit person. So I sent new of those for her burial. And we found out that with no viewing they don't do embalming, I thought it was the law. We had to take grandson with us. He was ok, but he went to the bathroom there and he wanted me to wait on him, LOL.
Hubs just wants to get it over with and I understand that. It's never good for someone to pass away, but with what she has gone through the last 2 years and more, in this case she is better off. Alzheimer's is a horrible thing I would not wish on anyone, I sure hope hubs doesn't end up with this. If he does, I know what he will do and don't want to face that.

Had parades, partied hard into the wee hours in my honor. I Was told I had the time of my life. Mardi Gras and I hit on the same day. Hard to top that for me ETA I was also celebrating 6 months divorced anniversary.

Grandson did great today. The instructor didn't have to say anything to grandson, he still had the float help on him, but he just ran and jumped off the end of the diving board. I don't know how many times. And then swam all the way back down the pool. By the time he was done today he was starving and tired.
Both kids wanted to go to this good restaurant and DD wanted to pay so we did. It is really good, just good home cooked food, breads, pies, and cakes.
I did not sleep well last night, and I was exhausted today. I still am tired.
Today we had a crop duster, we do about this time of year every year flying over. Little guy and I sat on the back porch, in the garage, and on the front porch watching him. He was barely over the top of the house. The wind was quiet was why he was flying, and he sure can pinpoint these fields. Once in awhile, one of them gets in trees or power lines and ends badly. But we sure liked watching him. Little guy is getting to see some different things this year. I still intend to get him fishing before he leaves if I can.
My kitty is laying beside me on his back. Last night he lay beside me in bed, and I rubbed his tummy, he flopped over and fell out of bed. I was laughing at him, he sure didn't pay attention to where he was, LOL!
He went out later and was running like crazy around the yard with one of his toy planes. He isn't used to this heat, his face was red as a beet, came in to cool down.
Was so pooped out this evening, hubs fixed cold cuts for dinner.

I don't even care about birthdays anymore, didn't even get a cake last time. Hubs wanted me too, but I think it's dumb to pay so much for a cake. I made one later. Hubs got me a gift, honestly, I don't remember what now.
I don't know who we would invite to a party anyway.
We still have a nice one for DD, she gets all excited, but for hubs and I minimal.

I threw and paid for my own 50th birthday party. It was mostly family. You know, I'd be happy hosting a nice dinner at a restaurant of DS and DDIL's choosing with just them and the kids. We have a few favorites with excellent food that are kid-friendly- main requirements are a moderate level of noise so they're not disruptive when they forget to use their inside voices, and enough space to take the 3-year old around for a walk when he gets restless. Otherwise, they're great, although I do have a priceless picture of the 5-year old leaning back and dropping strands of spaghetti into her mouth. DS and DDIL take seriously my request for no gifts. I'm happy with that. Mine was held at the community room at the Senior Center behind my parents' house. Mom's sister and brother both lived there so that was free. The best part was the cake and I really enjoyed the cards, which I still have, along with many photos.

Talked to DN1, NIL and the Toddler today. Toddler is still calling me the six syllable name. He did tell me he had fun at school today because a puppy came. He had told his parents he didn't have fun, like he always does.
They will be in Ann Arbor for NIL to teach a class at Michigan when I arrive in Toronto, so I get their apartment to myself for several days. We will exchange keys, etc. in Ann Arbor. Then I will stay in the suite after the arrive home.
The concert for 25 people is sold out. I do like that on the confirmation for the ticket it says do not come if you have tested positive for Covid or have any Covid symptoms and your money will happily be refunded.
This is a bring your own beverage and food concert. This will be fun!

Hubs got me a gift, honestly, I don't remember what now. I don't either. I wanted nothing for my 50th, but my family just cannot. Milestone birthdays are meant to be these big to-do's. I was forced to endure boob cakes and menopause books. It was awesome. I've always had family barbeques for my kid's birthdays and this year we were so busy and my oldest is pretty introverted too, so we decided to celebrate his 20th last Friday home alone just the 3 of us with a special dinner and a Dairy Queen cake (talk about spendy cake...I think it was $40). My mom found out there was not going to be a big party and couldn't handle it. Sunday I get a call asking if we're going to be around in the afternoon so she could drop off his present and maybe she'd bring a pizza. Yeah whatever. Ok. About an hour later my aunt calls wondering what she should bring. Say what? Yep. We ended up having a party at my house on Sunday. She invited a bunch of people and bought another Dairy Queen cake to be handled the proper way (candles, singing and Facebook pictures). About 8pm DS excused himself to go to bed because he had to get up at 4:30am for work...i did too because we're carpooling but apparently that didn't matter.

My Husband and I are married 30 years in October. The best Man from our Wedding told us we needed to have a party, and offered to pay for the food. I told DH that I really did not want a party. DH told me he felt the same way. I was glad we talked about it, because he asked about it again.
My SIL said she felt the same way about their 25th.

Thanks everyone for the condolences.
I'm beat tonight and hope to sleep better than last night. Old age and not sleeping well is not a myth. It wears you down after awhile.
After swimming hard today and running around, little guy tonight must have gone to sleep when his head hit the pillow. Same for DD, she was snoring for a bit.
Later all

Good morning to you, perspicacious invispeeps casting shadows in my laptop. Welcome to Wednesday this steaming July in 2022. I hope your day offers cause and occasion for celebration, on a scale you're happiest with. Although it's much worse inland and definitely south, the weather has been trending hot and humid in the afternoons here. We broke down and ordered a window air conditioner. It was supposed to arrive today but I got a notice that it won't come until tomorrow. In the interim we've been running errands in the air conditioned car with Franklin the Dog so he also gets a chance to chill out. We end up walking (Franklin and I) and watching (all of us) the water and boats going in and out of the harbor. Down at the water it's always comfortable enough. The sustained breezes keep the heat from building up. And, the enormous body of water absorbs heat. Handyman put in sink and faucet yesterday. It's enormous, although the same width and length as the old sink. Here it is: kitchen sink w faucet. It is an inch deeper than the old one. Handyman will install garbage disposal today and electrician will put in dedicated outlets to the washer and dryer--they were running off extension cords. Other than celebrating with my kids and DH, I had no parties for any birthdays since I was a child myself. Maybe I'll do something for my 65th or 70th . . . or 75th or 80th.

Same. Last night I found out that one of the other people in my unit that still has some sense/leadership skills is looking to leave. Which means, my choices are really to retire or find a new job within the university at a similar pay level. I'm trying to get out of my team in my department and go somewhere else within my department. I just don't know that it is going to be enough.
I can't leave much earlier due to the pension. .

If you asked me 3 months ago, I would have said I'd be here until DH is eligible for Medicaid. He is 4 years younger than I am, and I would prefer to keep benefits. He is also in worse shape physically and mentally (TBI at 18, already has memory issues). But then I was forced into a new system with no notice, which resulted in me working close to 70 hours a week until the rest of the facility caught up, almost 3 months. And then my boss was forced out and I got a new one who is somewhat of a bully. I can hold my own against anyone, but I should not have to. Medical and good working environment will be my biggest concerns when I get around to looking for new positions.

My kitchner stitch attempt was really bad. But, if I pick it out, I risk more damage than good. So, funky toes I shall have on my first sock.

Today my garden is on the Garden Club tour. It is NOT a showplace; I hand-weed and never manage to keep up with them and of course a lot of things are suffering from the heat even though I water twice a week. I plan to ask for advice more than show it off. They're a good group of (mostly) women. Anyone who finds the hidden poison ivy plants in the hosta beds will be free to take them home. I've had my episode or raging poison ivy for the season and am afraid to weed there. That's 8:30-10:30. Tonight I have the monthly back-to-back Zoom meetings- church finance at 6 PM and vestry at 7 PM. Sometimes everything hots my calendar at once.

I sure hope my kid's car is done today. This carpooling at 5:30am BS is getting old. I need my beauty sleep. I am not a morning person at all. I used to do a Morning workout at 5 am when I was younger and drove across town to get there. When the Pandemic Started, My Niece was teaching a 5 am virtual class and all I had to do was throw on workout clothing and log in. I have such a difficult time getting up that early, and then I just feel exhausted the rest of the day. I am so looking forward to retirement, but don't think I will allow myself to retire before 65. I had an appointment for a Lasik consult today, but they moved it to 2:30. I moved it to tomorrow, but I think I will call back and move it to next week. I left early yesterday to have a new crown fitted. It took 2.5 hours. They have a machine and make the crown right on site. It feels pretty good. She said my filling in the tooth is deep, and if this doesn't work, they will probably not be able to save my tooth. My insurance should pay half. They did not give me the charges in advance, but I know they submitted it. They know I always pay my balance, so I guess they were not concerned with me paying yesterday. My BIL is in the hospital. His liver is bad, he is living with my in-laws, and my MIL says he always refuses to take his meds for his liver. He insists the Dr. told him he does not need them. He is also diabetic, and has claimed he does not need those meds in the past too. MIL was very upset last night.

I'm hiding in my bed for my 50th next year. Who am I going to invite for a party?!? Me! I'll fly out. I've decided that I'm going to Vegas for my 50th. It's 7 years away so anyone who wants to go has plenty of time to save up.

For my 50th my Mom and I did a road trip from her place in New Brunswick to my place in Ontario with a stop in Old Quebec City. It was really nice. I'm not a large crowds kinda person.
