Somehow it's the latter half of June so I need to step up my search for a third vehicle as DD15 will become DD16 on 7/31. Any tips on good used vehicle websites? I'd rather not deal with slimy sales guys even if that means paying a bit more. We currently have a 2019 crv with 30k miles on it that DH drives. Both DD and I feel like it's too small when we drive it, but he loves it. I drive a 2013 sienna that just passed 168k miles. DD would love it as a hand me down. I'd still need a minivan bc I'll be hauling around DD11 and her friends for the next several years. Used siennas hold their value and are hard to come by. Ideally I'd like to stay around the 100k mileage range so it has lots of life left. Prefer leather seats for ease of cleanup. Slightly newer with a better backup camera would be nice. Was hoping to stay around $15k but could push closer to $20k for the right deal. I've also been watching for Highlanders or the larger frame Rav4 because I think DD would like those too. I've run across a couple of rebuilt titles. Stay clear of those? We had a terrible hail storm a month ago so seeing some 'totaled' from that. I could care less about cosmetics so might be tempted by one of those if it's clear that's why it's rebuilt. Meh...I say get yourself a new Sienna, Sequoia, or Land Cruiser and let DD have the current Sienna.

DH managed to find the one thing that would get me actually motivated to go to work. He let Abby have two friends stay over last night. They were up ALL NIGHT. And they were LOUD. The house is a complete mess. I barely slept they kept waking me up.
I walked over all the mess on my way out the door. DH can deal with it and getting them to assist in cleaning it up. It was his bright idea to do a sleepover during the work week.

I actually prefer the minivan with its sliding doors over Sequoia or Cruiser but good choices for some. I'm not a car person, so used is perfectly fine with me. That way I can keep more cash in the bank and just chuckle when it gets scratched or spilled in.

I'm back home from the ortho, parked on the deck looking up the bone he thinks might have sustained a fracture. I'm streaming the news on my phone, but I'm also hearing what sounds like karaoke from some neighbor's backyard. lol.... it's not any of the immediate neighbors, but a few houses down toward the pond. whoever it is needs to not quit their day job. update from the appointment though - I have acquired another brace for now. it's this multi-strapped lace-up thing that reminds me of the solid one I have for my wrist a couple times a year. when I got home, I took my car out to 7-11 (maybe a half mile, R/T) to see what I felt. I think I might actually be able to drive with this new brace, obv doubling up with the bootie. and not, let's drive to Fenway on Friday, but I don't have to wait for someone else to pick me up to go buy produce at the grocery store for the pups. THAT is a win! but, back to my foot - Dr says there's no full breaks, I'd have been screaming with how he was manipulating my foot to poke around. but, between explaining where I'm feeling pain after I do X or Y and where I winced/squirmed during that major manipulation, he thinks there might be a fracture of what's called the cuboid bone. I've got an order for a CT scan at the local hospital, slated for Wed. I'm gonna call my insurance company in the am to insist they hurry up and approve it since it's already been 3w since I wiped out. That is quite the tumble you took. I didn't realize it had been three weeks already.
yup, Friday to start Memorial Day weekend. and yes, it was a doozy. picture how your foot would bend if your flip flop caught a step and you fell forward/down. and then 200lbs landed on top.

Well, another big fire broke out in the mountains close to me today. I had to go out of town today for work, and when I got about an hour out from home, I could see the smoke plume that was huge. By the time I got home, my town was super smoky and the sun was red. It looks like it blew up really fast. Ugh...I hate wildfire season.
Stevie Nicks concert was rescheduled for September 28. Phew! Can you believe that my youngest child went to a music festival and did not stay for Stevie Nicks!!!WTF! Bad child!

Made breakfast and then got my rear in gear bit. Changed batteries in all the outdoor and indoor flameless candles ready to reset the timers on them tonight. Chunked the two who were dead despite new batteries. I mixed up the new bag of bird seed with peanuts ready to feed the hungry hordes. Then I put tonight's lamb chops to marinate with EVOO and herbs. Now I can be a slug until supper time.

TheOtherMe I am sorry about this current challenge, but hopeful that it will be temporary. We are all pulling for you to get better The process was explained to me in words. I wish I would have been shown pictures. I might have decided to go straight to surgery and be done with it. Since I return to surgeon next week, I may decide no more chemo just to get it over with. If he suggests doing another 3 weeks of chemo, I do know what I will look like and how awful it looks. It's much worse tonight than it was this morning. Think DN1 was correct in that it's getting worse very fast and will get better just as fast. I am still not going to bandage it. I do want to hide and not let anyone see me. Can you ask the surgeon to show you example pictures when you go in to discuss? Ask for what you need, and make the decision that’s right for you

I adore my crappy 20 yo Focus station wagon, complete with dents and peeling clearcoat. It’s ridiculously practical and has more cargo space available than most SUVs…although admittedly if we had more than the one kid I’d probably cave and get a minivan.

I said something similar to my dad this past weekend about my hatchback. I was able to transport a huge dresser (60"W x 30"H) with the seats folded down. before this car, I had a pair of the same model 2dr hatchbacks. I don't think I would do well with a sedan at this point lol.....just being so used to all the available space! and re: comparing to an SUV? when we picked up the bathroom vanity for this house, we ended up having to put it in my car because my mom's hatch was too narrow at the top where it tapered near the roof. she's got a Chevy Trax.

Kicking off the first week of summer camp. Made it through Fathers Day ok yesterday, although DS was in rare form I’m also apparently still pissed at MiL for skipping DS’ graduation: showed FIL a pic of it since he’d wondered about how DS’ height compared to the rest of his class, did not offer to show MiL. FIL gets a pass bc even getting into his wheelchair is a major production. My parents with all their flaws would never, ever have missed a grandkid graduation that was only a mile away. Um...only a mile away Yeah, that's not okay.
Not okay yet so totally in character. DS talks more fondly and more frequently of my dad, who he saw maybe 2-4 times a year, and my mother, who he’s seen maybe four times total, than MIL and FIL who he sees near weekly since they moved out here. He knows damn well who actually loves him, and who talks a good game but would fold like a house of cards in a stiff breeze. At the risk of perpetuating the DIL/MIL conflict stereotype she really just sucks. Completely self centered.

Our 11 yo Prius hatchback is both economical, sturdy and amazingly roomy. When we go to a 2-day show all loaded up everyone else has a truck or SUV plus trailer and are amazed at what we unpack. It goes and goes and goes at 50 mpg. A good thing, because we only have the one car. Haven't needed another in years now.

The tree trimming is done and I am happy. They came earlier than expected and I was at the grocery store when they got here, so I hurried home.
They’d already started, but I still got to watch most of it. I was in awe of the one guy that was up in the tree tying the branches off so the guys on the ground could keep them from falling on the roof when he cut them off. It was interesting to watch.
I’m glad that’s done.

We are approved for the HELOC! Now we can put an offer in on the house I like! I even spoke to DD about putting new flooring down and she said that she and SIL can do that for us. It helps having a SILthat does construction, tile and flooring.
Hopefully no one has put an offer in on the house we like.

When our sons were in high school and college we had several beaters on the yard that we lovingly referred to as the FOC (fleet of crap). When we picked up another beater for a good price, we would call our insurance agent and ask to add one to the "fleet".

My daily driver is a 99 Jeep Cherokee Sport. DH says I treat it like a truck, which is kind of true. It's really not big, but the back seats fold up and I have moved a lot of stuff in it. A chest of drawers is no problem at all.

"Shitter's full" update:
The septic guy was supposed to come pump it today. It rained yesterday morning and this morning, and he can't get the truck down to the tank. We are currently in the midst of our dock reconstruction (another long story) and their heavy equipment has torn up the yard and it's a big pile of mud. If he had brought the truck down, he would have gotten stuck. We're going to try again Thursday morning.
The temporary fix seems to be working. We are flushing a lot and keeping the water running through it to keep the TP from clogging it up. DD has also been threatened that next time she will be shoveling it out.

Good morning, able invisipeeps, preparing for meals, miscreant pups and wild storms or just the day. Welcome to Tuesday. I hope alll who are searching for their motivation find reason in the fact that Thursday's coming. Thursday you can do standing on your head, it requires so little of you. For everyone I hope this day treats you with gentle respect and rewards your efforts. Bought a window a/c yesterday for DD. It will be delivered today. She is sensitive to heat, so it's important considering today our heat wave commences. $247 from Walmart and they deliver, a good thing since I actively avoid that store when possible and it's almost always possible. Today I'm going to the local grocery store and picking up live lobster at $6.99/lb. This is my favorite food of all and since I'm a foodie that's saying a lot. Yesterday's pre dawn was pretty spectacular: Gorgeous photo ... !

Nice big "boats" from the 80's. But they were perfect for DD to learn to drive, because if you can manage a big car, you can drive just about anything.

We stopped at the store after lunch. When we came out, there were dark clouds visible, and the wind was blowing erratically. No rain, nothing bad, nothing close by. But one glance at the clouds and trees moving completely triggered me and I pretty much lost it, shaking and crying and hyperventilating. I had to sit in the car for a bit before I could drive home with poor DH trying to figure out what was wrong.
It's been 16 years since the last hurricane here and I have worked very hard on recognizing and overcoming my PTSD. Just this morning I told DH I realized the coming months will be challenging and I have tried to develop strong coping strategies. I was blindsided today because in mere seconds it was like being whiplashed back in time to the darkness of that night. I didn't see it coming at all.

Made the other half of the German chocolate cake (1st half was Sunday.) Just needs to be put together, which pleases DH very much. For my own treat, I'll be steaming lobsters in less than an hour. YUM!
ETA DD's a/c is installed and functioning, so she's happy. She has a second interview tomorrow and needs to have a comfortable night.

Just got back from a Costco run. TD went with me to haul things, which was good. Also picked up a rotisserie chicken and their mac and cheese for dinner tonight. I went looking for a large container of red pepper flakes and struck out. After going through about a jar/mo, I need to get a bigger size. The chili I made earlier and the stir fry last night both used up half a jar. Pizza a couple times and that’s the rest! Also struck out on getting any lamb.
World cruise friends just got back from Italy last week. We are meeting up and comparing trips. They did a land tour of Italy and a cruise of the Adriatic while we were in the far east. They then leave for South Africa about a week before we leave for Ireland. We went there last time, guess it’s our turn to host. Just need to figure out what to do. We had to cancel out right before we both left, where my game plan was a big ole pot of seafood chowder. It’s a little too warm for that now.

I'm going to look at the incredibly dated but nice house tomorrow. If there don't appear to be any major issues, I'm going to ask to move forward. I will probably not offer full asking price since it is so dated. It has everything I want, it's just not really pretty. If I started at $225K citing having to basically gut it, would that be out of line? I really like it and don't want to shoot myself in the foot. I'll obviously negotiate and be flexible. If they say no, I'm going to leave it at "call me if you change your mind." www.zillow.com/homedetails/3012-N-64th-St-Kansas-City-KS-66104/75733912_zpid/

The tree company coming earlier than expected kind of threw my day off, even though it’s not like I had to babysit them. I just had my day planned differently. I went to the grocery store earlier than I usually go, because I wanted that out of the way before they got here. I managed to get myself back in track though, after contemplating just sitting on my butt for the rest of the day. I still need to do a couple more loads of laundry. That may or may not actually happen. I admit that it’s nice to not do Mister’s laundry anymore. It’s a lot less work for me. I hadn’t realized how much of the laundry was actually his. And now I don’t get irritated when he balls everything up and dumps it somewhere in another room instead of putting it away.
