Okay so people who are in corporate America I need to know if I am crazy or not. Apparently the fact I did not take that lab tech position is "proof" I am not interested in moving up because if I had been I should have eagerly taken a lateral move into their department based on the promise that "someday" I would be promoted. Despite seeing ample evidence in BOTH my current department and theirs that this doesn't always happen. To me it was like no this is not a good career move for me. I'd be taking several steps further down the ladder and you have made it clear the only time anyone is promoted is if there is an open position. So I could be waiting YEARS washing your dishes to move up. Or I can stay down in my current department which sucks but the director seems to want to develop me so I have been given opportunities to get out of my hovel and "prove" myself. I gave them every opportunity to show me that they were actually interested in developing me, that they had a plan. I laid out for them why I did not feel that this was the right position and they had every opportunity to counter offer me. They did not. I specifically asked them what does this roledo, how would I get opportunities and they said "Well you'd be mainly washing dishes/doing autoclaving but maybe after a few months we can get you started on tests like pH" No. No! Absolutely not am I going so far down the ladder you need to train me on how to do pH! Not when despite manager issues down here I am already primary on one test and I was being asked to consider doing HPLC work to demonstrate that I can walk the walk. If I had been a fucking external candidate and turned that lab tech position down they wouldn't have likely said boo about it and forgotten all about me. And NO I am not coming up there to do a job beneath me to learn shit I already know how to do. You fucking said it yourself that my resume is PERFECT for your needs. So why would I take a job below me? Is that how corporate America works? I have to go lower and lower before I can move upwards? That I have to prove I can "hack it" as a peon to them despite the fact my resume has 14 years experience, two papers and I word for word was able to copy their SOPs into my resume because I've done it all already? And if I am not willing to grovel and make lateral moves/lower moves this shows that I am a lazy unambitious human being who barely deserves the job she has? Going back to if I was an external candidate not only would I have gotten an interview it sounds like I would have damn near been hired on the spot. Did I take the wrong colored pill or something? Absolutely not. If someone ever said anything like that to me I'd be on my way out the door in a hot second. Do you not get approached by recruiters on the regular? I get them all the time. Or does stem not work that way? I'd think they'd be all over your LinkedIn page with your resume being impressive. Not really at least not around here and/or at my level that I have seen. There are a couple recruiters who do STEM but there aren't exactly a lot of employers around here that do STEM so it's all the same employers with multiple agencies. I do have my LinkedIn set to "looking" or whatever it is so we'll see. I am a poster child for stupid degree and career choices at this point in my life.

Thanks for the LinkedIn reminder. I need to update my resume there. I do get a lot of calls from keeping my resume on Indeed.

DH got of bed around 10:30 and wanted to act like nothing ever happened. No sir. I have pretty much ignored him and went about my work day. Need to get through this presentation before I can deal with that sh*t.

Last week I saw a supervisor at my job that I hadn’t seen in a while. She was saying how much of a difference it makes, what opportunities you are given, depending on who the upper managers are. At our employer, you can “detail” in different jobs, in your local area, across the nation, or even at headquarters. You still officially have your real job, you’re just temporarily working another, usually higher paid, job for at least 3 months.
She had been requesting to work other jobs in our building since she first went into management, years ago. Always was denied. Then a few years ago, we got an head person in charge of our building and the wicked witch upper manager retired, and this supervisor has worked in at least 4 other jobs that I know of, over the last 3 years. Her background is in operations, where she first went into management, but now she has worked details in timekeeping, labor, and now she is a maintenance supervisor. The HPIC, who didn’t know her from Adam, approved her first request, then asked her himself to do the second one.
Around 13yo, when my coworker/friend got a job at headquarters, the head manager on our shift tried to keep her from leaving. He would not do the paperwork to release her, and would not do things on his end so she could have access to things in the computer system to do her new job. Even after my friend had moved to DC and officially started her new job, he hadn’t done what he was supposed to. Her new boss was the VP of one of our divisions, and she had to step in and pull rank and make waves so her new employee (my friend) could do the job she’d hired her for.
The “crabs in a bucket” mentality and all kinds of other dysfunctions and ugliness exist in work places too.

I hear Amazon does overnight delivery Sweetheart neckline, full knee-ish length skirt, little cap sleeves, stiff cotton material, little bit of a 40s vibe. Mine is a really vibrant purple although I think red was the more popular color Thanks for the description. I remember now!! 😁 I actually bought that dress in a teal color, but I don’t fit into it yet. 😔 Mine used to be too big

Got through my presentation, and one of the things that I talked to DH about yesterday happened - his dad showed up at the worst time on the four wheeler with his loud ass voice right outside of my office window. Now I am more p*ssed off. DH went out quickly to shut him down but I went to the store for DH last night BECAUSE I DID NOT NEED FIL SHOWING UP TODAY. Something that I explicitly explained to DH yesterday evening and IMO something that he should have communicated to FIL. But here we are. He knows I was stressed about this presentation. And this was before the middle of the night chaos that I still have to deal with.
I should have just gone onsite and almost did this morning, but it is my g*ddamn house. He has been after me to set limits with my parents but he refuses to do the same. Guess I will have to do it. At least, if I still plan on living here which is iffy at this point.

Just got off the phone with Vanguard regarding that letter I received last Friday. And now I am PO'd at them (in addition to USPS for their slow delivery). They needed "additional information" from me regarding my name change. So what did they need? They needed a medallion-ed signature on the paperwork. Well...that bloody signature was actually on the paperwork I send in. Their scanning had just not "captured" it properly. So they were going to put in a request to rescan the document. By this time I was getting more than a little irritated so I asked how long this re-scanning would take. Oh, that will take 3 business days after p!acing of the request. So I told the representative that I needed a call back no later than the end of the week (no online account permitted under their rules until this is resolved) to confirm that everything has been taken care of. If I had been that inefficient as a contract manager I am quite certain I would not have been able to leave on my own terms! Grumble, grumble, grumble...
It is a good thing I had already decided to consolidate my accounts at Fidelity.

Credit cards are usually quick to reverse charges. Carrying cash is not always safe either. And that is if you can even find a store that has what you need/want. Yes, credit card getting hacked is almost a non-event bc they know it happens and in an obvious case they’ll generally reverse the charges right away, certainly before the bill is due. Debit cards are a bigger pitfall because it’s your own money that was stolen and you need to catch the charges within a certain time frame to avoid ultimate liability. DN1 and wife found out when his debit card got hacked in Canada, there are very few protections. To them it felt like no protections. The hacker was able to change the name on the account and got over $7000 in cash and purchases before they realized it. It took them over a month to get their money returned. Many, many people could not afford to be out $7000 for that amount of time. He was able to see their accounts on the phone. DN1 had to get a new sim card and a new phone number. They had the audacity to charge the activiation fee when they let the guy change thet name on the account without getting identification. The bank let the debit card be used way in excess of the daily cash limits. That is the reason I only use my debit card at the bank to withdraw cash. It is not stored anywhere online. I doubt I ever buy though Ticketmaster again so I've removed my credit card information from there, too. I know one of these days I will get hacked on my credit card. I get lots of invoices to be paid via Paypal. They are scams. All for McAfee and Bitcoin. I do always check the Paypal account because that is how the invoices are set up.

I have told hubs over and over never use his debit card online. He listens but I think he did one time before we added some other credit cards in case our bank of America got hacked. I check accounts daily or everyother day.
I got a Treasury direct account set up and I'm thinking of seeing if I can convert the 2 $5k bonds as the new rate has the fixed rate as part of the component. I guess its essentially cashing them and buying them new, so I could just cash them at bank, pay the taxes, and have the money direct deposited into the treasury account.
You can only put one name on the account, so I put mine, hubs doesn't care. But I am not comfortable with the trust choices on there so just set it up as an individual account for now. I hope I can edit it before I add any money, will have to find out. I am very leery of something happening to son and trying to deal with DIL to get money. She really doesn't understand any of this stuff, I'm going to have to help educate her. Son says she won't listen, but I think he just doesn't want her to know how much money he is saving. He has more than enough to pay off the house, but he is 55 so I understand him trying to put more money away. He does not have enough. But he will also have a pension and SS, so should be better off than us in retirement. But then I'm not sure if he can insure her under his if he retires at 62 as she is 10 years younger than him. I have thought of putting the bonds in his name, I know he won't spend them, that's for sure, LOL! But I feel like the stock and bonds is my fall back money if I ever need it. I am uncomfortable with any trust. Heard to many messes with them and people needing money and can't get it.
I am now going to try and create the Compushare Account for Walmart stock and get that going.
It's 2 PM, I was up earlier and have done little today. I was watching a show and am half dressed, I'm going out to mow some more in the lawn, but may work on the sidewalk too. It's supposed to be cool tlll Thursday than rain, so I should get done or done as much as I will.
I slept pretty good last night and when I get home, I'm going to work harder on going to bed earlier. But it takes me almost a month to adjust to different time zones and here I go again. But I really need to do it for my own health.
DIL came by for awhile today. Little guy is so sure of his "smarts" he is not completing his work because he knows that stuff. Well this time another boy got the award he got last year. If he keeps this up he is going to lose as he sure doesn't know everything he thinks he does. Son was similar, he would ace the tests and not do the work along the way. He passed the classes with C's or B's, but could have done so much better. I hope they can help change this but I'm not really thinking so.

countrygirl2 , You can designate a beneficiary for your bonds in Treasury Direct. No need to put ownership in your son's name. You can add a beneficiary at any time, not just when you purchase them.

I had to come in, its hot out there in the sun. I should wait till later but I want to mow later. I did about an 1/8 of the sidewalk dig out and does it look nice. I am filling the hole again with the sod from this. I will water it and bet it takes root. There is a lot of dirt in it so should fill nicely. I have another small hole there I'm going to fill.
I have some round culvert type things at the end of the downspouts, but they are too short or filled with dirt. Or some of the drains aimed the wrong way. So I'm sure the water is running under the modular. One I can just clean out, the rest will see what I can do, but hubs may have to fix them. at least it will be several days of nice weather to work outside. The lawn will die pretty much die later, but it appears to have deep roots so comes back.

Yeah, I know I can put them in a trust, but have to get home and see what kind of trust it said again because there are quite a few and this one the attorney did, well, I'm not sure if it fits in one of those. Hubs would just give him most everything, I said are you crazy? I don't think he realizes how much money he SPENDS. He has spent over $1000 fixing the tractor so far. And he is always doing stuff like that. I think he is premature giving him the tractor, he uses it for all kinds of stuff at the house. Always big limbs to haul to the burn pile or other things he does with it.

It also touched off some drama bc most of my not-sneaker shoes are black and I prefer not to mix black with blue. I have a pair of nude flats that have barely been worn, > 10 years old, and when I opened the box it was really bizarre. The soles were cracked and they were kind of dissolving? Like, I tried wearing them to see if they fit and then I had to scrub sole-shaped goo off the floors bc they were sticky. Naturalizer brand, not cheap I’m going with the white low kitten heel ones that have rhinestones in the shape of a dragonfly over the toes instead There's something about certain sole type materials that do that. I am hanging on to a pair of shoes that's no longer made that I bought on Ebay or Amazon. The sole did exactly what you are experiencing, and I later found out that this happened with this type of shoes often within 3 to 4 years. It will cost big money to resole them if I ever am able to do that, but I haven't found anything as versatile as that old shoe yet. So yes the soles crack and they degrade and get gooey. Sucks.

countrygirl2, I was not talking about putting the Treasury Direct bonds in a trust. I was talking about keeping it in your name and designating your son as a beneficiary. Ownership does not change until the moment you die.

No, you didn’t do anything wrong. You proved that you are ambitious by applying for other jobs. I was cleaning glassware and doing the autoclave when I had a work-study job at the microbiology lab at the junior college. I can understand not wanting to take steps backwards. I believe that your boss is bad mouthing you to the other department. You may need to check the Don’t contact current employer box on your next application. Nobody has crystal balls. Don’t beat yourself up for choices made when you were young. You have time to find a better work place. Keep looking until you find your good fitting place.

Contractor was here all day. We are back to start with grass seed. I really think if this doesn't work, I will go another direction. But I won't do it until fall because I am not going to water all summer.
He didn't talk about money today, which is a good thing because I am not paying him another dime.

My recycling and trash are out. All the daily household chores are done.
Two more days of this topical chemotherapy and my nose gets a break.
I only have to go to town once this week and that is to pick up my meals.
I have to remember in the morning to stop at the bank to get cash to pay the cleaning people as they come on Wednesday.

Well, my “off” feeling this weekend was definitely me coming down with DH’s cold. Blah. At least I’m not near as bad as him. He was sick for almost 2 weeks! But this is giving me the added benefit of him doing alllll the chores. He made dinner AND did the dishes/put stuff away (we usually split those tasks). He’s also caught up on laundry, taken the trash out, and a few others. He’s usually good at pulling his weights but I’m appreciative of him doing a little extra tonight so I can relax and just veg on the couch.

He’s usually good at pulling his weights but I’m appreciative of him doing a little extra tonight so I can relax and just veg on the couch. I’m sorry you aren’t feeling well. 2 thumbs up for your DH handling everything so you can rest and relax!

I am waiting for Mrs. T to come outside and play lol. She and 2 of her siblings took their children on a trip to the gulf last Thursday and didn’t get back until yesterday so we haven’t chatted in a few days. Now we have to catch up.

So, for those keeping track. I casually have been looking for jobs since Jan of 22. I applied for three between Jan 22 and Jan 23. I started looking at jobs in Jan of 23 in earnest. Since January of 22 I have applied for about 23 jobs. There may be one or two that I missed. 23 sounds good. I know for a fact I applied for a few that they already had someone picked out for the job. No one reviews job apps at 2 am so they are ready to send out rejection letters right at 9am. Or one job, that thanks to budgets, was cut immediately after I applied. Out of the 23 jobs: - I got 11 first interviews
- I got 5 second interviews
- 0 job offers (so far)
These stats are still pretty good. Except for the last, of course.
There is one more job I have to apply for. It is in the same area as this last one I applied for (and got a second interview). Thankfully, I think the timing will work out, so I'll know if I get a first interview around the time of the second interview.
What's the moral of the story? I would have been really good at dating multiple people at once without anyone being the wiser. Too bad I didn't know that when I was young and not in a serious relationship. It could have been fun.
