One of the parents of a kid in the missy's 3K program committed suicide. We weren't close to the deceased, but we did know the parents of the deceased. The deceased wasn't all that much older than DS. And how is it fair that I was somehow granted the gift of watching the missy grow up...and yet my neighbor and now this parent were not given that gift. My life is not inherently better. I'm not more worthy.

On a positive note about mental loads...we are 5 weeks into home chef meal prep deliveries. Only one recipe has been so-so. The rest have been great. 4 servings usually stretches to 5 or 6. Ordering 3-4 per week and supplementing the rest of our meals from freezer, salad, pizza, etc. Intro deal was well priced, ongoing is a bit spendy but man is helping me. I do can shop less, waste less, eat better and dd11 has taken to cooking a couple nights a week without being asked or even asking many questions. Tonight she and I were at hair appt where she got blonde ombre put in as a big middle finger to leaving private school dress code in our dust. Came home at 530 and DH had cooked a meal from it without prompting. They are also weighing in on future orders so that's becoming not my problem too. When I cook them, it's so easy bc literally everything except salt, pepper and oil is included. Most are 20 min prep. Def a privileged option but so, so helpful for me. Do you mind sharing which service you are using and the cost? Not the intro cost but the regular monthly cost. Thanks. I‘ll butt in and answer…for 3 recipes 2 portions each the regular weekly cost for blue apron I think wound up about $78 once the discounts ended. Looks like dinnerly without discounts is going to be about $67 for 4 recipes 2 portions each. Slight decrease in per-meal cost with more meals or more recipes purchased for both services, which I think is pretty typical. Both weekly totals include a $11-12 delivery fee with each box.

This is what gets to me. DH didn't see or hear things that need to be done and when I lose my sh*t over it I'm a crazy b*tch. (My words, not his.) My DH doesn't notice anything below knee level. If the trash can is full, he rarely notices unless I mention it. You don't even want to know how bad our house looked when I was on bedrest while pregnant because he just doesn't see it. On the positive side, once I refused to pick up & wash any of his laundry if he dumped it on the floor next to the laundry chute, I at least managed to train him to throw his dirty laundry down the chute. And yes, he does occasionally throw in a load of towels without me having to ask. So, he's not completely hopeless.

I'm so excited! The program for the Montreal Jazz Festival is out and Etran de L'air is playing. Desert Blues is my favourite genre of music. The pounding rhythms make my heart soar. I wish I could go to Agadez in person. I'd be the only crazy old white lady dancing barefoot in the sand.

Actually, she said she was going to Pittsburgh. Yeah, if she came to Philly I would have demanded a meeting whether she liked it or not! If I’d been going to Philly, as soon as I learned the destination, I would’ve been asking you if we could meet while I was there.

we were able to escape to the shore for a quick walkabout over lunch, and I've moved the party outside for the sunny afternoon to crank out some online refresher training while I listen to the court case. ETA: actually, I have a question. not sure if this is something that varies by state, but swamp - can a judge insist on not stating the reason for an objection when one comes up? just that she'll either sustain or overrule, and if it's not immediately clear as to why the objection was raised, that the discussion will be a sidebar? this case I'm watching, this judge has a sidebar like every 5th question. she's also cleared the jury a couple times already just today alone for further discussion. thanks!

Apparently everything I say is "snippy" lately (personal, not professional life). So Ima just be quiet and let things play out. I don't know about you, but I'm so over this being the male deflective response. I have never once told another female that they are snippy or a nag...have you?

Home chef after intro pricing wears off 4 meals of 4 servings $111.84 ($27.96/each); I think there a few meals each week that are a bit higher or lower but this is avg + 10.99 shipping +5.98 tax =$128.81
If I go down to 3 meals, total price is $112 so most weeks I do 4.
Very easy to skip a week if we're gone, have too much food, or don't like the menu as much to get to 3-4 meals.

BA standard size is 5 oz steak per person, dinnerly is 4 oz and thus far oddly shaped/hard to cook evenly. Both default to top sirloin which is perfect but DH noted a few were a little tough or gristly (he has the same experience occasionally with grocery store steaks even when I buy the expensive stuff). The salmon doesn’t actually have weights listed. Really I think the problem is DS can cheerfully eat 10 oz of steak or pork in one sitting and ask for more Puberty is expensive! It isn’t just boys. I routinely out-ate my dad and brothers and couldn’t crack 100#. Now I can’t seem to lose it. This is my niece. All the child eats is bread. I think she just graduated to a size 0 at 20 yo. I told her it's gonna be a sad day when that eventually catches up with her.

Showered after breakfast but didn't feel great so skipped the framing thing and just did grocery shopping, toilet cleaning and filter change out. This afternoon I made an appt. for tomorrow for a realtor to give us an idea what our house might sell for. I was very direct that I am not putting it on the market - just curious. I'm guessing $275,000-ish, maybe $300,000.
Tonight is easy fix - marinated mozzarella, salami, hummus, olives, bread. DH and I will split a piece of cake after.
I need alone time and retail therapy so next Wednesday I'm heading to Marshall's. Or jail for aggravated assault on someone, anyone, everyone.

Personally, I love to cook, and I don't have to please anyone but me. Tonight, I'm making shish taouk, and tomorrow will be udon noodles with garlic shrimp and bok choy. When I was working, it was a different story. I'd come home exhausted.

There are some things we both like, but mostly my tastes are more adventurous. I am not cooking two different meals. We’ve lived in separate states for a good chunk of our marriage that it really is fine that he makes his eats and I make mine.

Had an awesome lunch with a couple peeps from my last group. One left a few months after I did, and the other just gave her notice last week-she has an excellent new job lined up. Sounds like it’s just in time too; the budget cuts have hit super hard and it sounds like most of my remaining former coworkers have been warned to start looking for new jobs Unclear whether the group will continue to exist. Always fun to marvel at the sheer toxicity of that place…. The one who left over a year ago just got an email yesterday from our former supervisor asking if she‘d like to meet up for lunch and discuss the future of the group. We’re betting he’s going to try to hire her back and she is under strict orders to meet up for lunch or at least on Teams to spill the tea afterwards.

My first job, the lab of 12 people was down to 1 in about 6 months. I was the second to exit, and once the rest realized that the PI had fudged my predecessor’s data that I inadvertently mentioned, the gig was up. No one wanted to be tainted by that brush.

Well eff. Friends younger brother was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer, discovered after metastases to the spine and CNS caused issues. Sometimes I wish I knew less about oncology, bc that’s pretty much a death sentence. I suppose you don’t need an advanced degree to tell you that…but the survival rates for anything beyond stage 1/small enough to cut it out basically suck. And the detection rates for „small enough to cut it out“ also suck.
I will cross my fingers that the thoracic oncology MOOC I took a few years ago is massively out of date and the newer immunotherapy approaches will make a difference.
