Any ideas on how to style? It ends up looking like a potato sack on me as is. I'm thinking a wide belt and maybe a Jean jacket? I fell in love with it in the thrift store, it looked all right trying it on but now I'm stumped after getting it home. Thought about cutting off the collar but feel bad doing that to a vintage dress.

One of the parents of a kid in the missy's 3K program committed suicide. We weren't close to the deceased, but we did know the parents of the deceased. The deceased wasn't all that much older than DS. And how is it fair that I was somehow granted the gift of watching the missy grow up...and yet my neighbor and now this parent were not given that gift. My life is not inherently better. I'm not more worthy. ((((Hugs))))

Had an awesome lunch with a couple peeps from my last group. One left a few months after I did, and the other just gave her notice last week-she has an excellent new job lined up. Sounds like it’s just in time too; the budget cuts have hit super hard and it sounds like most of my remaining former coworkers have been warned to start looking for new jobs Unclear whether the group will continue to exist. Always fun to marvel at the sheer toxicity of that place…. The one who left over a year ago just got an email yesterday from our former supervisor asking if she‘d like to meet up for lunch and discuss the future of the group. We’re betting he’s going to try to hire her back and she is under strict orders to meet up for lunch or at least on Teams to spill the tea afterwards. My first job, the lab of 12 people was down to 1 in about 6 months. I was the second to exit, and once the rest realized that the PI had fudged my predecessor’s data that I inadvertently mentioned, the gig was up. No one wanted to be tainted by that brush. No data fudging as far as I know, just a supervisor who never ever stops pushing, needs a lot of personal validation, holds grudges, doesn’t address interpersonal issues, ignores fairly important managerial stuff he doesn’t feel like dealing with, plays favorites, and micromanages to death. Not quite bad enough to justify firing him but not fun to work for either. We all thought it was quite weird for him to request to meet up with a former employee who left a year ago. She was relatively junior, a BS (now MS) where nearly everyone else had PhDs; definitely a solid and reliable employee…but she was also bored and mildly out of place (her specialty was sort of fringe compared to the main group focus) and is significantly happier at her new job.

DD1 is in 7th grade and she’s 12 (13 in August). She has a good school friends, I’ll call her B. B had a friend (called J) that had committed suicide 2 weeks ago. DD1 knew J and liked her as a person, and consider her an acquaintance. B was good friends with J. Last week was a balloon release memorial for J, and J’s mom, dad, and stepmom were there. From what J’s mom said, there were no warning signs.
B has been missing a lot of school (in mine and DH’s opinions) because she either needed a mental health day or just didn’t want to go. (DD1 knows that won’t fly with us.). We don’t remember hearing this last year with B. DD1 also said that depression runs in B’s family and B has it along with ADHD.
After J committed suicide, B’s parents were already worried about her but became more worried. She ended up in an outpatient mental health facility shortly afterwards. Earlier this week, B was admitted to the hospital for observation. Per B’s mom, B had attempted to overdose on some pills, but stopped herself and spit them out. She’s now in at an inpatient hospital to get help and better coping skills. B’s mom stated that B wants to be back at school before it ends in about a month.

I have never been called snippy by anyone.Aggressive? Yes but not snippy. BTW, I don't think I was any more "aggressive" than my male colleagues but sitting down to pee and standing up for yourself = aggressive

I have been told by managers I needed to be more assertive. When I was, the same managers told me I was too aggressive.

I noticed my roof was leaking when I went to bed last night. I totally panicked and thought it was time for a new roof. Niece's husband stopped by a bit ago. I do not need a new roof. Remember the carbon monoxide problem I had last winter? Well, in breaking up the ice, the seal was broken on the vent pipe. All it needs is caulked. NIL did a roof inspection and said that is all that needs done. I did not like the way he responded to me last night and had been thinking bad things about him. Bad me. He initiated coming by tonight and he will be here tomorrow when he gets off work around noon to fix it. NO NEW ROOF! Not now. Sometimes family is good. Will figure out the ceiling in my bedroom later, as in the fall or winter. The drywall is going to need to be replaced, so it will be another problem of no one wanting to do a small job.

It was what it was at the time and I did my best to get things to change. However I am sad that things have not changed far enough. At this speed my (imaginary) GGD will still have to fight the same battles

It's 6 pm and I'm fried but there's laundry in the dryer to fold and put away. For some reason I'm feeling a lot of stress about the realtor visit tomorrow. Maybe I'm afraid the offer will be too good to refuse. The transition is coming; I want it to be on my time, not someone else's but that's unrealistic. I don't want to deny reality. Good night, peeps!

I’m pretty lucky in that my last PI was incredibly hands off. In fact, when his wife had a horrible accident where he didn’t show up at work for a long time, no one noticed for several weeks. For me, it only came to a head when I reached a road block and wanted to try something different, with a hefty price tag. I left a message, telling him that if he didn’t tell me not to order it, I was going to do it. He didn’t, I did. It got me around the road block. His wife had been driving from San Antonio to the coast with a friend for the weekend. Her tire blew, she went off the road. Friend died, his wife was in a coma for a long time but it was 2 days before they found the car. His wife had a horrible recovery, and he still had 2 HS kids at home. We managed ourselves for 4 months, and made some pretty decent progress. This was the same boss that we went to him and told him we wanted a mental health day. We wanted to go to the Canyon Lake to go waterskiing and asked him if he wanted to play hookey with us. His response ‘I want to, but can’t. I have this damned meeting with some muckity mucks, so can’t. But have fun, see you tomorrow’.

It isn’t just boys. I routinely out-ate my dad and brothers and couldn’t crack 100#. Now I can’t seem to lose it. This is my niece. All the child eats is bread. I think she just graduated to a size 0 at 20 yo. I told her it's gonna be a sad day when that eventually catches up with her. I was slim my whole life, until a few years ago. But I ate a LOT. People were always surprised at how much food I could eat in one sitting, because I was so slim. Starting when I was a teenager, my Mom use to tell me, if all that food you eat ever catches up with you, you’re gonna be big as a house. I finally did start gaining weight a few years ago, in all the wrong places. But I never got big as a house lol. I don’t eat as much now, because of all the issues with my stomach. I suddenly lost over 20lbs last spring because I basically stopped eating at all most days, to try to keep my stomach from acting a fool so I could go to work and just function like a normal person. I still have not gained any of that back, but my stomach is still bigger than I’d like. My stomach has been ugly with stretch marks and wrinkles since I had my first baby, but it’s never been big until a few years ago. Mister bought a treadmill and a home gym contraption with weights last week. He has not put any of it together yet, but when he does, I will be using them. I am actually kind of excited about having the equipment at home to use. I really, really do not like having a big belly and I’d like to get rid of it.

I am finally caught up here.
Y’all were talking about laundry….. when we first moved here, I did all of Mister’s laundry along with mine. I hung his clean clothes up and folded and put away the stuff that went in his dresser. He hated the way I hung his pants (on proper pants hangers) so I stopped hanging them and just spread them out so they didn’t get wrinkled, and left them for him to deal with.
Then I got irritated a couple of times because on very rare occasions, he would do his own laundry, but wouldn’t wash my clothes too.
Ling story short, over time I got irritated about several things regarding laundry, and I may or may not wash his clothes with mine. It’s silly to me to run the washing machine with a small load when there are other dirty clothes than can be washed at the same time. But sometimes I feel petty. I also no longer hand or fold any of his clothes, because he started just throwing his clean clothes on the bed in his wannabe man cave without concern for them getting wrinkled. So if he doesn’t care about wrinkles, neither do I, so when I do wash some of his stuff, I don’t bother trying to keep it from getting wrinkled, and sometimes I just them on the bed in the other room myself.
He doesn’t complain when I don’t wash his clothes. I guess he understands that it’s his own fault that I stopped doing what I had been doing. It works for me, because that is less clothing that I have to deal with.

I got home earlier today from crazy, hectic, in person work meeting. If i got 5 hours of decent sleep each night I was gone I’d be shocked. I am so excited to head to bed in a couple hours, haha.
speaking of my work week, this years meeting was weird, for a variety of reasons. The big one was that it put on full display how different my colleague and I manage our teams. This was a positive for me. My team is awesome, smart, amazing, and crazy good at their jobs. They were so positive and engaged all week. Between my colleague’s usual annoyingness, and it being very clear she’s slacking on training her newest employee, the vibe was weird. I don’t know what’s going to come of this, if anything. I did however, receive some very nice compliments from the big bosses.
my trip is vacation in 2 weeks, and I can’t wait!

I was thinking about doing that too.

I am starting to put together a 4 piece patio set. Opened the box and was counting everything, I almost ended up e-mailing the company about missing pieces. Luckily they were closed when I phoned. Re-looking I realized that I glanced over a bundle that was zip tied to a frame.
Yay! All the pieces are here. Now, I just need to actually start putting it together while listening to the Jim Harold's Campfire podcast.

alright, I'm not current right now, and I'm sorry. but I need to air this rant rn. I closed all apps on my phone so I could enjoy a quiet dinner, maybe a quiet night. my phone still had some random audio playing, with no apps active. I've rebooted the damn thing 4 times already, and the audio continues even through the reboots. WTF?? that alone is going to bring me to an AT&T store tomorrow to unload this fucking thing. hard pass on all of it, and I'm about to rejoin my parents with their flip phones.

we were able to escape to the shore for a quick walkabout over lunch, and I've moved the party outside for the sunny afternoon to crank out some online refresher training while I listen to the court case. ETA: actually, I have a question. not sure if this is something that varies by state, but swamp - can a judge insist on not stating the reason for an objection when one comes up? just that she'll either sustain or overrule, and if it's not immediately clear as to why the objection was raised, that the discussion will be a sidebar? this case I'm watching, this judge has a sidebar like every 5th question. she's also cleared the jury a couple times already just today alone for further discussion. thanks! It’s the personal choice of the judge.

Uh...no. But, don't I wish! I'd be getting Gus trimmed every week! Speaking of which he's way overdue again. I really miss when he only needed to be done twice a year.

I got a couple hours of mowing in tonight despite feeling like crap because it's supposed to rain tomorrow and it's already getting really long. There's still a lot left, but at least I got a good start on it.

Uuuhhm, you may have forgotten this but we agreed a while back that any new relationship you start needs to pass the board of YMAM approval first. we may come to slobber over him but there has to be a lot more than just a hot bod for any "him" to pass our approval. We won't allow just any guy, hot or not, to hurt you.

If you have some water stained drywall try spraying it with hydrogen peroxide. A guy told me you can do that on trailer ceilings and I did, it took care of the water stains. So worth a try.
Hubs sprayed the outside with bug killer. He said he bought inside spray for the inside, apparently he did not air it out. It's already giving me a headache. I really didn't want it sprayed on the inside of the modular. Anyway I turned on the kitchen stove vent for awhile and that is helping.
He had turned off the heat in here so it was 50, its up to 64 now in about an hour, but I need to turn on a vent fan and that will suck out the warmth to get the smell out. I don't know why he turned it off when he knew we were coming up in a week. DD put on warm jams and tucked into bed. I took a hot shower and heated my jams in the dryer plus put my electric blanket on my bed, she didn't want hers.
Little guy wanted to stay tonight but his mom said wait till tomorrow. Like she said we don't even have food to make a meal. I promised him I will get him tomorrow.
He and I discussed school, tornadoes, hurricanes, and Pangaea on the way home. He and I talk about all kinds of things, I love talking to him, interesting little boy, reminds me of me when I was little.
Even though the plane was an hour late leaving we got up here ok. But that touch down was a bit hard, think they were in a hurry. They almost backed away from the gate before everyone was seated, flight was mainly smooth, hit a bit of turbulence but not bad.
About ready to hit the sack. I found a can of pineapple to nibble on, that hit the spot.

Good morning, adulting invisipeeps, opening Vanguard accounts, parenting teens and tweens, traveling, tending to ceilings and roofs, admiring farriers, styling clothing and attending meetings. Welcome to Saturday. I hope your day is a good one with much to enjoy. I'm sitting on the sofa catching up. The car is packed and ready to go to today's arts and crafts show in the town common where DSis lives. It's not a big show. I hope all goes well. I slimmed down on inventory and supplies we bring with us and the car is not bursting. DD will be coming over again to look out for Franklin the Dog several times today. He was sulking yesterday as I was packing up. He knows we'll be gone. Yesterday was chilly and heavily overcast. I got this shot at sunset from the town wharf looking toward the harbor:

I didn't sleep that well either. T2 decided to leave late at night. Whatever, she's grown. She came back early in the morning and the ring notification woke me up. The guy that lives next door works overnight. When he came home at 5:30, the ring woke me up again. I just stayed awake and played with my phone for a little while before coming to let the twins out.
We're going to the fiesta for Cinco de mayo today. Hopefully it doesn't rain. At least it won't be hot as hell this time.

I'm not sure if anyone here follows boxing, but given the beef between Canelo Alvarez and Oscar De La Hoya, I kinda wanna watch the fight tonight too. They aren't fighting each other, but I still wanna see if Canelo wins. I may take a poll later and see if anyone wants to come watch it.

I'm also enjoying a cup of coffee while I fart around a little, debating some breakfast as well. I've been to the grocery store and back, and my friend S is coming by at 10 to mow the back lawn. she's also gonna show me how to operate my own mower and maybe I'll do it myself this year (let's be real, probably not...) tomorrow's not supposed to be all that great, weather-wise. so I want to spend as much time outside today as possible once I get out there. I could use a couple more degrees though haha. but I'm intending to weed the stuff that's coming up under the mulch beds, and use the leaf blower on the areas that the guys missed as they were cleaning up the sod work.

Seeing if I can use some yarn I have at home for my class. while I don't understand how folks can open up their closet full closet and have nothing to wear, I can see how it could happen. I opened up my sock yarn container, and I didn't have much to work with. To which DD1 replied 'That's all sock yarn?" Yes dear, and I will pet it and call it george.
I am satisfied with what I found, though. I hope the yarn store will cake one of the yarns. I did buy it from there, like 8 years ago.
DD1 asked if we could go shopping beforehand, and I'm trying to make it work while prepping for brunch for tomorrow.
