Family coming over Sunday for a belated Christmas. Thought Jerseyguy might be home from rehab but now probably end of week? Thought family could visit him in rehab but someone there has RSV so no visitors. Well at least I’ll get to see great grandbaby for first time in person. We’ve been getting weekly if not daily photos of this darling chubby baby

Finally made it to Saturday and had a blissful time sleeping in. We were supposed to go see DD#1 this weekend, but the weather is prohibiting that.
I'm paying the bills this morning, and I need a second cup of coffee.
In the work realm: Another principal has been pushed out and a third has resigned due to lack of support.

It's 20 out, whoopee. Even son had on a warm winter coat. He said the first time he has had to wear it since leaving NY. Grandson got up to go with his mom to art class, so that's good. Think I'm going back to bed for awhile. Trying to finish my coffee with Miralax in it.
Son now has what grandson and I had. Though both of us get to coughing hard again at times. I am giving him med and I am taking it at night. Otherwise I would not sleep for coughing.
This morning, burning in my left foot and right wrist. I hate it when that happens, very painful. Back to bed for awhile, ahhhhh.

My 13 neice has her 3rd and final spec oly bball game of the season about an hour away from me. Today's high is 12 but no snow or ice. Do the rules about not driving if you don't have to still apply since we have cell phones to call for roadside help? I'd pack blankets and whatever else you all say that I need to be able to go. Huh? You’re not supposed to drive when it’s cold out?

We were supposed to get 4 to 8 inches of snow. We got 3, maybe.
now it’s raining. DH got up early to snowblow. We then went to town to do our other hose and my dads. We needed to get the snow taken care of beciaee rimorrowmis calling for another 8 inches and then it’s going to freeze.

there was a break in the rain, so I decided to head out. $85 later, I've stocked up on pantry staples that are on deep sale this week, and a bunch of fruit I'll chop later. the highlight (for me, anyway!) was that the bakery had baguettes from a local place that supplies D'Angelo with their sub rolls. so right now, I'm making a breakfast sub. onion/pepper/mushroom tossed with a scrambled egg and melty cheese. I'm heading downstairs for the afternoon once it's all cooked.

I do not know why mother nature hates us. Our high on Monday is -1. I saw a meme that said Winter came in like "I heard yall were talking shit behind my back!" I feel that is pretty accurate. I think you are correct. We have had a very mild winter for this area. We have been in the single digits for the last 48 hours. Now things are cold enough that if when we get rain, we are going to have an icy mess. So far, we are clear, and I see the first blue skies I’ve seen in a month.

I'm shocked the Chiefs game is still going on. It's at night and the windchill is supposed to be -30*. The Miami players aren't going to be ready. I'm going to watch it from the warm house. The Steelers-Bills game that was supposed to be tomorrow in Buffalo was postponed to Monday due to 1-2 feet of snow and up to 65mph winds! It is going to be a frigid KC-Miami game!

Here in north jersey it’s been a second mild winter. But lots of rain with many flooded homes and towns. Thankfully plumber replaced a broken sump pump in our basement . A little water in one area only Got another delivery of oil today, $1063 at $3.43/gallon. Had a delivery late fall so this should take us to spring. Next week we’re getting the cold temps many of you have now

Wondering why Jackson is so weird. I'm watching tv and there was a shot with a bunch of cows in it so I covered Jackson's eyes so he wouldn't bark at them. The dummy just sat next to me with my hand over his eyes. Otherwise he would bark and charge at the tv.

It's been a busy one so far. I mopped the floors while DH vacuumed, worked on the brokerage statements, went to Aldi on a wine run (got broccoli and tomatoes too), and have diced the meat and most of the veggies for tonight's curry.
Here's an easy-peasy dinner for those who have access to frozen bay scallops. I get mine in a 16 oz package at Aldi. I thawed half the package under running water in a colander. Thin sliced 3 cloves of garlic, and grabbed unsalted butter and lemon juice from the fridge. I boiled 4 oz of angel hair pasta, leaving it slightly undercooked so it could sit in the water while I made the scallops. Melted 2-3 tbs of unsalted butter in skillet, added sliced garlic and cooked over medium-low fire until garlic was soft. Added the thawed scallops (pat them dry first) and sauteed for a few minutes until done. Turn off heat, stir in about a tbs of lemon juice and as much chopped parsley as you like (I used dried parsley). Drain and plate angel hair, top with scallops and that yummy butter sauce. I like a little fresh ground pepper on the top.

3.5 hours, 16,000 steps and 330 zone minutes and I am done. At least I can be a slug the rest of the day with no guilt. I even had to make a path for the horse and goat not only to their pen, but in it to the calf huts and the poop pile. I know he's a mini, but it's stil pretty bad when the drifts are too deep for your horse.

Ds had a lot of fun at blacksmithing class. He did get some burns on his fingers which I am trying hard not to worry about. I got him some burn gel and promised not to ask about it for 2 hours. The instructor was not concerned about them.
I had 2 good classes at the dojo this morning. 1 was ground work which isn't ever what I want to do, but always something I should work on. And its a good workout.
I have work to do, but I'm going to take the afternoon off and work tomorrow. Work on the house today.

We have broken a record with 24.3 inches of snow since Tuesday. Highest total ever in a one week period. No wonder the roads are so bad. And the drifting. My front door had a drift so I couldn't get out and patio door has a drift so I can't open it.
I think the garage door will open and the drive has now been plowed. Since I haven't gone anywhere, I don't know if the sidewalk was done.
The highway is still Travel Not Advised so I am not getting on it. I've seen the pictures from the plow cams and they are having problems keeping one lane open.

Genealogy class was on Orphan Trains. It was very, very interesting.
One of the children the presenter had been able to trace back to their parents became an orphan because the father murdered the mother. Family took the older two children but sent the youngest to an orphanage.
She said in many cases there was no legal adoption.
She showed the ads that were put in the papers when a train was coming through advertising children like merchandise. They will make a great addition to your home.

I do not know why mother nature hates us. Our high on Monday is -1. We're going to have a high of 28 on Tuesday. I know it's no comparison but we rarely have a LOW of 28 here. Stay safe and warm if possible. Yeah we’ve been updated to a high of 39! I’m so excited. I may drag out my heavy sweater in case I need to go out for any reason

Highs were in the mid 20s here today, but it was a beautiful sunny day with hardly any wind. DGS2 has not been feeling all that great for weeks now, it is one thing after another. However, I could not let such a beautiful day go to waste so I kicked DS2 and DDIL out of the house and stayed behind with the grands. I would have loved to go for a walk as well but I will be home again in 10 days and I will have plenty of time for walking then - so it was time for oma to babysit. I will do so again tomorrow when mom and dad have a reservation at a nice Afghan restaurant - something the littles categorically refuse to eat

We are at a whopping -11. It will be -2 tomorrow and then a toasty 22 degrees on Monday. If the wind isn't blowing I can handle it for a small period of time. When the wind is blowing and all the snow comes flying back in your face it SUCKS. I think we got 11 inches. I almost couldn't get into my car the snow blew almost up to the window of the driver's side door. I thought I was going to have to crawl in the passenger side. going a little bit stir crazy. I am in general a homebody but it's the being stuck in doors and also the kids are home, the dogs won't potty outside, husband is here. Ugh. I can't really get anywhere to go away. The streets are horrible but they are bad enough I am not going out unless I have to until Monday. Stupid winter. I am concerned about climate change and saving the planet and know that snow is important but dang I can't lie and say I was missing it.

I got skittish. Likely my rural upbringing and no cell phones in the 90s when I was a teen and college student and my mom harped about not driving bc we literally couldn't get home if we left. Bball game was worth it. Sis had a migraine so I got to pick up my two nieces and take them to game. 13 yo played well. She knows her position on offense and defense. Got a steal and went dribbling on fast break, bounced off her knee at the free throw line and out of bounds. She looked up at me in the stands and yelled "almost scored" which was amazing bc she has apraxia and very limited speech. Shot a couple times and missed which is just as well bc I'd never live down sis missing first basket. She's missing part of her 23rd Chromosome which is really rare but she's super friendly like a downs person. She had to introduce me to all 8 of her teammates after the game. Then she pronounced that she was hungry and reminded me that we passed mcds. It was mid afternoon so I suggested fries. She insisted on m&m McFlurry. I said, it's 10 degrees outside you're nuts but got her a small one to eat in the car. She inhaled it and said large next time but her fingers were frigid lol. Her 7 yo sis also had a mcflurry and giggled after that I was right about it being too cold. Love those kids!

Snow is back in the forecast for tomorrow. Between tomorrow and Monday, we are forecast to get up to 6” of the nasty stuff. I know that’s not even worth talking about for many of you, but trust me, that is enough to wreak havoc around here.
I am prepared to be able to just stay home until my next appointment for my foot, on Thursday. That will also be the first day the temps get a little above freezing, warming to 37°. I hope by the time I need to go to my appointment, the streets are in decent condition. But then it will be below freezing again for the next couple of days.
I have food, although I might have to get creative with some meals if this lasts long enough, but I’ll still be able to eat. The deep freezer is still not stocked back up, and we are lacking as far as vegetables go, but I can stay put and not starve, so whatever.
The rear defrost on the Tahoe doesn’t work, Mister has been saying he was going to fix it since last summer, and still hasn’t. So I am pretty sure he’s going to drive the Jeep to work if the streets are bad. I don’t care, as long as I don’t have to go anywhere.

I am concerned about climate change and saving the planet and know that snow is important but dang I can't lie and say I was missing it. I can go a few days being at home, or even longer, and not get restless as long as I have everything I need to be ok. Because of my history, not HAVING to leave home for a day still feels like a luxury to me, so several days is even better lol. But I am kind of concerned about me and Mister both being stuck at home tomorrow and Monday. Especially since we aren’t getting along all that great anyway. It’s good that our house is big enough and has the kind of layout that we can get away from each other as needed, but even with that, idk about actually being stuck in the same house together. That is different from choosing to be at home. I am sure that come hell or high water, he will go to work Tuesday, so we need to just not kill each other before then. That is kind of sad, because in years past, I would’ve loved to be snowed in and stuck at home with him.
