Life is weird. I just saved my kids life with frosting. Literally, not figuratively. Frosting because we're completely out of juice with straws and every other form of fast sugar I'd have to wake him up for and since he was still up at 4am when we were fighting a persistent high, waking him up at 715am would be harder than normal. And he is fine. Bg is 84 and going up. This was the worst low we've had in ages but I knew it was coming. I figured the high was because he was up snacking all night which he confirmed. And the technology is amazing but when youre high for a long time the increased dosing to correct coupled with regular bolusing for carbs ends up stacking insulin creating a rebound low. I can't believe I let us run out of juices. I need to get that figured out to avoid it happening in the future. I'm lazy, so I'd go Amazon auto delivery.

Cleaned out the filing cabinet, which was about 5 years overdue, but ready to start 2024 with a clean slate. It's going to take me all day with the shredding.

Can he use a cup with a straw or water bottle with a built in straw that you pour juice into? Yes. During the day he usually just takes tabs if needed. But when he's asleep I need something I can give him quickly while he may be trying to roll over, push me or the juice away/etc. So something that can be kept in his room and isn't going to spill is ideal. I keep a Camelbak Eddy bottle with water, on my nightstand every night. it sometimes ends up in my bed if I have taken a sip in my sleep. it's spill-proof with a bite valve straw, and they make them in smaller sizes for kids. would he be able to use a bite valve if he's crashing? if so, I def recommend these.

No. He'll drink from a straw but we're not trying to wake him up. It would waste a lot of juice too since he doesn't need it every night but we'd have to empty and clean it each day. I don't like how wasteful juice boxes are but we reduce waste in a lot of other ways that I don't have any guilt over using them for actual medical purposes.

I did that with all of the other random supplies when dh stopped tracking stuff. Not sure why I never thought about it for juice. I'll set that up now.

Years ago, DH only drank sweet tea and Mountain Dew. He started drinking Vitamin water but he likes a certain flavor, which is hard to find around here, and has since started drinking regular water as well. Now no sodas and one glass of tea a day. To keep him in water I switched to Amazon auto delivery. It is pretty much the same price as when it goes on sale here and it is one less thing I have to keep in my head.

My city has “a limited number of shred bins at the recycle yard which will be collected and shredded every 2 weeks, or, if you have more, there is a local business you can take it to for nc shredding weekdays from 7-10 am.

Got through the shredding, which resulted in filling a little over 1 half of a 42 gallon contractor trash bag. Loaded a broken printer on top, so that is accurate. Hopefully I will remember how much work that was and won't let it get so bad going forward. I also need to control it - I found 3 years of monthly statements for DH's truck loan that he never opened, just dropped them in an empty slot. Told him that I will control it going forward and agreed to keep just the most current statement. We had a face off when he saw them in the shred pile, where I looked him in the eye while I fed them through the shredder. 🤣

You'd still have to clean the water bottle, but it would be more sustainable and cheaper.

I had a sorority sister who was brittle diabetic and often needed emergency sugar doses. there were tubes of frosting around the house and next to her bed.

I'm at work, there is nothing scheduled, but I have to be around just in case.
I've signed a few things, checked my email, read the news. Now what?

yesterday I spent a good portion of my day watching a trainwreck on FB. FB has a local scanner site (reporting police/fire/rescue calls) They also report local news. A local expensive private liberal artls college (also my alma mater) is having some financial issues and is talking about some restructuring, fundraising, etc. to meet the deficit. The number of local uneducated people claiming the college was having issues because it's "Woke" (whatever that means, they couldn't explain it) or that the place should be shut down is astounding . Never mind it employs over 1300 people. My head hurt just reading it. I'm staying away from it today.

I miss the good old days when the crazies all clumped together in camps out west or in places like Guyana and we only heard about them when they offed the occasional movie star. As long as you could dodge the recruitment flowers in the airport, you could avoid them pretty much altogether. Now they never have to leave their mom's basement to band together and we have crazy shoved in our face all the time.
One of my goals for 2024 is to cut way back on social media.

Spent morning with plumber on slow tub rain so I'm down $1,000 with an estimate of $500 to run a camera down line under tub. We will have them run all the way to the city main, probably another $1,000 or so. Must replace broken line under tub which requires partial deck removal and tunneling so maybe $5,000 . Depending on what camera shows about our main line, we may opt to replace the whole thing which will run $30,000 . Lots of zeros, lots of question marks, DH has finally removed head from rear and listened to dollars-and-cents logic. At least he got the tub running well enough so we can shower.

Just went through and updated my 2023 bill sheet. I've also started the 2024 bill sheet and printed it. Hopefully I'll write things in it more than I have in the past.
I'm also going to clean my desk itself as it became a dumping ground again. It really needs to stop!
Edited: Also printed my DH's side of the family a list of birthdays and anniversaries so that I can update my MIL's calendar for 2024. The shaking in her hands has become too much the past couple of years so in addition to the calendar we give her, I also add the birthdays and anniversaries for her.

A TopGolf opened here recently and was wondering if any of you peeps have had any experience with them in your town. Used to golf but not sure I want to go back to full blown golf course but hitting balls in a/c might be good exercise. Gotta keep these old bones moving or I'll be moaning and groaning all over the place. Plus have sports bar and restaurant. Any feed back will be appreciated.

My work group has gone to Top Golf a couple of times for a team event. We've had a great time! I haven't paid the final bill so I don't know how expensive it is, but I'm sure it adds up. FWIW, only 1 of our co-workers is a "golfer". He had a great time, but so did the rest of us. Edited: My favorite game is Angry Birds. You aim the ball at the different holes like the Angry Birds game. There's a screen to show what the course looks like it and how it you hit it.

One of my goals for 2024 is to cut way back on social media. I think there is something in the holiday water. I just had an explosion on one of the FB groups I moderate. One major rule, so spam, no promotions. Some new guy comes on, posts a clip of his music along with a link. I delete it, telling him he can repost without the link. He then goes and argues with me. I leave to take a shower, and a group of people defend me and the rules. While I’m in the shower, I realize that if he was not trying to promote his music, he’d have reposted it without the link. Before I could go and start deleting, another mod came in and deleted. This is on top of someone talking about suicide. Luckily, I got to her and got her to a doctor. Whew! Holidays seem to bring the crazies out of the woodwork.

I keep looking out at the front lawn and realizing that the grass and weeds need to die. I really don't want to deal with it right now due to weather and the amount of time it would take me. Still looking for a yard maintenance company to come out and do a clean up. Nobody is contacting me back though.
I refuse to use round up so I probably will move to industrial strength vinegar to kill all the weeds. It's still going to be a chore getting rid of the dead stuff though.

Everyone I know who's been to Top Golf likes it. They have various different games. We haven't gone yet. The closest one is probably not in the safest spot.
DH's uncle booked us there one time but they double booked the time slot and booted us. It would have been something different than the usual dinner.

If I had a house still, I’d take in older children and raise them but not babies or young children. I don’t think DS would do it and I’m unsure about her. I’m concerned about how DIL will feel if she doesn’t have a baby. Didn't you buy a house a few years ago? Am I mixing you up with someone else? No, I did buy one but I sold it at the height of the market and moved to an apartment.

I've pretty much confirmed it is my cube mate who is smearing me to my manager. Apparently she tells other people " All DQ does is play on Facebook all day" which my co-workers ignore because they know I don't and people should be entitled to take a break but my manager laps it up. I am tempted to tit for tat but it would not be worth it to stoop to her level. A proper manager would be investigating her claims and personally if I was her manager would be telling her if she's got enough time to spread gossip and literally monitor her coworkers down to the minute we need to find HER more work to do and if she doesn't knock it off as of yesterday we're visiting HR. Which is why I would never make it as a corporate manager. It doesn't really solve anything to know BUT it keeps me from getting paranoid and turning against my other coworkers. And it helps with if I need documentation because there isn't any real proof I am failing at my job besides their bitching. My SIL said I have the right to have HR present if she makes claims like that again. That gives me the opportunity to challenge her with HR present. Our software tracks everything I enter in so I can show exactly how many submissions I've done each month. I already went through all the paperwork she claims I "ignored" and can show it wasn't my paperwork. She also suggested I seriously consider opening a complaint. I can tell HR I don't actually want to do anything at the moment but I want documentation in place that a coworker is slandering me and my manager is eating up using that to possibly sabotage my efforts to move elsewhere into another job. Then when/if the poop hits the fan I go there first. I have been warned that the coworker has done this to other people and seems to enjoy it. How miserale of a person are you that this is what you get enjoyment out of?! It is exhausting that two people can cause that much drama and misery and that one can influence my career. BUT I am doing what my therapist said and controlling what I can control in the situation. Listen to your SIL and file a complaint. You want to move up in the work you do and this b*tch is preventing that!. No reason for you to leave - if anyone is going she should be the one. Also, that FB crap she claims you do all day - if they track everything you do on your computer they can see it is a lie. Get ahead of her, do NOT let her chase you off! Neither one are going anywhere. They have been "talked to" about this stuff before but nothing changes. Both have been in the department for 15+ years. IDk if I want to stay in a company that lets that kind of shit fester like that. I also don't know if I want to work for a place where apparently my resume doesn't matter. Maybe it's just my department and the one I tried to get into. Maybe not. If it is then I'll find someplace that does take my education and experience into account and doesn't throw it away. We'll see. I am not going anywhere .. .yet. But I am open to the right opportunity.

Today I did some dusting and cleaned both bathrooms. I also organized the makeup hoard better. Don't laugh, but I have condensed it to a dresser I bought instead of various rubbermaid containers all over the house. Tomorrow I'm taking down and putting away Christmas stuff. I'm hoping to get the kitchen scrubbed down. Friday I'll do the floors. I've been organizing as I go along. Then I can have a clean house for a weekend before my kid comes back and ruins it.

We have a Top zGolf near us and everyone that has used it has really liked it. Plus sports bar and restaurant so how bad can it be?

I might do it for a bigger group, but I'm pretty cheap at the same time. I've only been when my workplace paid for it. topgolf.com/us/overland-park/#pricing
