Tomorrow starts Costco's January coupon book sale. But I was up there today and scored some stuff I thought I would share.
From time to time, Costco sells the remainder of clothes really cheap. There are usually only a few and a few sizes. I got a winter coat last year for $12.00 that way. Note the pricing is not the usual Costco pricing. They don't end things with 00 when it is regular merchandise.
Today I got Nautica pajamas for $5 and a cardigan for $4. I would rather have had a L cardigan than a M, but there are no buttons so it isn't meant to close, anyway. It is chenille so really soft. It will be dressy enough for church, which gets cold. I feel silly to still be wearing my coat. Lol. I really lucked up on the pajamas because all they had were S and XXL. But then there was a pair that someone had taken out of the package, and it happened to be a M.
If you are a member and looking for a good price on TurboTax, the deluxe version will be $11 off tomorrow so basically $45. However, it includes a $10 credit that I can use toward filing my state taxes. I still have to pay $10 to file them, but I'll take it. If you don't need it for that, it is good toward other stuff like their Defense thing . . . stuff I would never buy!

It's cold and snowy. I'm debating going to Chipotle. T2 is out of town this week, so I don’t want to cook. I could door daah, but I have trust issues with strangers transporting my food lately. I've seen some interesting things on the internet. I really don't want to go outside. In case anyone was wondering, I made homemade hamburger helper. Not much to cook, but still dinner. I cut up a salad so I can be healthy too. If it involves the use of a pan, I consider that cooking. FWIW. And you had salad too? I'm impressed! I'm about to have peas with melted butter. Life is rough.

Dammit! Macy for some reaaon decided to curl up under one of the end tables in the living room. Only problem with that is her 80 pound ass doesn't fit. She caught my phone charger and sent my phone, the full beer I had, and the lamp onto the floor. I yelled at her and told her to get out. She's in the kitchen now. I swear to God if she shits on the floor in there.

Do you follow a certain recipe for homemade hamburger helper? If so, please share! My family and I like it, but would like something not from a box per say. Not really. They way I make it is this. One pound ground beef (I use turkey), season with salt and pepper, half an onion chopped, and a ton of garlic. Cook it down until the meat is no longer pink. Then I add my desired amount of noodles, water and beef bouillon (you can use beef broth, but I don’t usually have that much on hand). Cook until noodles are done (about 10 minutes). Then add cheese of your choice (I use about a cup of mild cheddar). Once the cheese is melted, you're ready to eat. I like doing the water/bouillon instead of beef broth because I want to control the seasoning. All that seasoning packet really is is beef bouillon anyway. I feel like I can control the richness of the sauce that way. Plus, you get so many cartons of beef broth out of a small jar of beef bouillon. I use the Knorr brand if that matters.

There are only a few bills that come in the mail. Small town water bill is on a postcard and the local businesses I use for repairs for heating, plumbing and snow removal all arrive in the mail. I mostly get junk mail, but this time of year, I have been very happy to receive Christmas cards. All of my important stuff is digital, but I have not gone through records from way back when and that needs to be shredded, as in a 4 drawer file cabinet full. I admit that I have every tax return I ever filed. Last 15 years or so are digital. First one I filed was for $109 when I made $1 an hour as a waitress in 1968. It's on an IBM card. I definitely need to get through that stuff and get it shredded. Now I get loan offers almost daily for me, DN1 and his wife. I still get mail for both of my parents. Any mail for them is trashed, especially the car warranty stuff. Dead people don't drive cars. NIL receives a check a month from something she did academically that I deposit to their US bank. The last 3 summers, their checks for the courses they teach at Michigan have come here even though every year they fill out the paperwork to have it direct deposited. I get the 1099 for NIL via the mail. I don't think anything else tax wise for any of us comes by the mail. I get mail at least once a week for DN1 to consolidate his student loans. He told me not to scan them. He isn't doing that. I get mail from Discover for all 3 of us regarding cash advances or balance transfers almost every week.

Have beef empanadas baking in the oven. Made the dough from scratch, puff pastry. This was an all afternoon endeavor. They taste great but too much work and clean up involved. These are a once in a blue moon thing and I need to be in the right frame of mind to make. I caught myself being short with others in my house who like to eat but who don’t help with any of the clean up. And there is that one annoying person who brings their dirty plate and cup to the sink while I am cleaning. My inlaws made empanadas for Christmas. So, so good, but the homemade matza(sp?) Is crazy intense. I like the Goya pre-made dough and have used that. Getting to bring home a tray of empanadas was the best Christmas gift!

Did a bit of shopping today. Picked up some 50% off big ornaments and a wreath. Also a bag for my Christmas tree, I don't think I can get it back in the box. I'm hoping to decorate along the fence at the end of our drive and street back here. I also have 8 of those huge bulb lights, I wanted a few more but they were sold out. It will look nice. But an awful lot of decorations to store in a small place up here.
I have blown my nose over the last 10 days till my head is hurting on both sides. DIL has talked to a lot of people and sounds like everybody is getting sick with this stuff. I got masks but trying to find any kid size for grandson is impossible. I finally ordered off Amazon and won't be here till Jan 5th. I am hoping they will come earlier. DIL has been trying to find them too. I
I am tired tonight, I hope this doesn't keep up and get worse before I go home. I will see my doc when I get back, but flying could be miserable.

I'm at the tail end of pet sitting madness. I will have made over $1200 petsitting in December once it's all said and done which is at least a decent amount of money, but it's been a.lot and probably at best comes out to $25 an hour which includes drive time, but not expenses/taxes, etc.
The friends who I've been dog walking for canceled for next week which was a huge relief and I reached out about returning their key. They asked about me continuing to walk their dog 2x a day Wed/Thurs/Fri through the end of February though. I just don't think I can do it any longer but I'm having a really hard time even considering saying no. I'm way under charging them. I'm walking their dog for $15 an hour. I don't know what I was thinking when I quoted them. I go 2x a day for a 1 hour walk and a 30 minute walk. But I like walking dogs and I like them and their dog. And even under charging them - an extra $66 a week can be useful.
I already work my 2nd job on Thursday/Friday so adding a 3rd job especially one during business hours is a good way to go insane I've found these last few weeks. Especially when I'm also doing kid pick up.
The last couple weeks I've really felt like I have to focus on my main job. Get at least 1 more client and knock it out of the park for the ones I have. There are lots of things I could do if I wanted to keep with the animal stuff, but I can't keep splitting my focus and do anything well.
So I have to say no. But it just feels impossible.

I make tamales sometimes but it takes me 2 days. I cook and season the meat all one day, than the next day soaking corn shucks and putting masa on them, than meat. Than they have to be steamed in a kettle. I usually make 12 dozen. They are really good, I order the seasoning and shucks online to use.
I usually buy a pork roast or shoulder and cook it till tender, makes for good ones. The loin meat is too dry for me and wrong texture.
We will fix a dozen at a time for dinner as they are rather small. I have beans and rice with them a lot of times and tortillas. A very tasty dinner.

Grandson just got me, he told me there is a blood type called golden blood and only 40 people in the world have it. I thought he was making it up, but nope he wasn't. It's true, he really got me on that one. Apparently it does not have the RH antigen in it.
Little guy is full of information, I hope he keeps up his curiosity, it will serve him well.

Good morning, diligent invisipeeps, taking stock and making plans for the new year. Welcome to Wednesday. I hope this day for you is filled with good friends, good food and good help for whatever needs doing. Boxing day saw me mailing off a few calendars ordered in the last couple of days. Now I have just 3 left. The discount and no shippng seemed to help move them along. Over all calendars worked out pretty well. I thank you all for the idea and for patronizing. I was unaccountably tired yesterday. If I sat still for too long = over 8 minutes, I'd fall asleep. Yesterday and today are very foggy here on the bay. The morning it was so dense the water completely disappeared. I could hear tiny dinosaurs as usual but saw only a handful very close by. This is a path through the dunes in the fog:

I've pretty much confirmed it is my cube mate who is smearing me to my manager. Apparently she tells other people " All DQ does is play on Facebook all day" which my co-workers ignore because they know I don't and people should be entitled to take a break but my manager laps it up. I am tempted to tit for tat but it would not be worth it to stoop to her level. A proper manager would be investigating her claims and personally if I was her manager would be telling her if she's got enough time to spread gossip and literally monitor her coworkers down to the minute we need to find HER more work to do and if she doesn't knock it off as of yesterday we're visiting HR. Which is why I would never make it as a corporate manager. It doesn't really solve anything to know BUT it keeps me from getting paranoid and turning against my other coworkers. And it helps with if I need documentation because there isn't any real proof I am failing at my job besides their bitching. My SIL said I have the right to have HR present if she makes claims like that again. That gives me the opportunity to challenge her with HR present. Our software tracks everything I enter in so I can show exactly how many submissions I've done each month. I already went through all the paperwork she claims I "ignored" and can show it wasn't my paperwork. She also suggested I seriously consider opening a complaint. I can tell HR I don't actually want to do anything at the moment but I want documentation in place that a coworker is slandering me and my manager is eating up using that to possibly sabotage my efforts to move elsewhere into another job. Then when/if the poop hits the fan I go there first. I have been warned that the coworker has done this to other people and seems to enjoy it. How miserale of a person are you that this is what you get enjoyment out of?! It is exhausting that two people can cause that much drama and misery and that one can influence my career. BUT I am doing what my therapist said and controlling what I can control in the situation. Listen to your SIL and file a complaint. You want to move up in the work you do and this b*tch is preventing that!. No reason for you to leave - if anyone is going she should be the one. Also, that FB crap she claims you do all day - if they track everything you do on your computer they can see it is a lie. Get ahead of her, do NOT let her chase you off!

Setting up an appointment to get my hair trimmed. Nothing fancy, but I have not been since July and need some dead ends cut off. It has been bugging me for a while and we have a surprise birthday party to attend Friday night. ETA - Does anyone have a recommendation for a good towel wrap/dryerr? Towel drying my hair with a regular bath towel takes a bit of time, and I've taken to using my hair dryer as a quicker way to make myself presentable. I use a Conair rotating brown dryer, which I love, but I like to go in with partially dry hair.

As much as I always said I wanted a shoe-full. I would have lived out that rhyme entirely. Which is all to say - I see you. Hugs.

I have to tell you, having a little person squeal over presents, get excited for the elf, losing teeth, these are the things I miss the most, and I'll probably never get again. (DH and I figure we'll have to do Christmas in July with the kids if they partner up and/or have a family of their own, quite literally). So, I do try to savor these moments. I know they are fleeting. And, while I wish I could just go out and buy things, when I want to, especially given that I work two jobs...having a legacy of the kids isn't all that bad of a trade-off.

I have a Conair Infiniti Pro Ionic 1875 hair dryer. I used to kill hair dryers. I think the one I have left is the one that lived at DH's house prior to our marriage. We were engaged for 18 months so I had some duplicates.
My prior one died and I got a great deal so I bought two, one for each house. I have a lot of long hair. If I can get 30-45 minutes to air dry it first, my hair is dry pretty quickly.
I still use it when I'm traveling. DH bought me a Dyson two years ago but I won't fly with it. I would be sick if something happened to it.

Life is weird. I just saved my kids life with frosting. Literally, not figuratively. Frosting because we're completely out of juice with straws and every other form of fast sugar I'd have to wake him up for and since he was still up at 4am when we were fighting a persistent high, waking him up at 715am would be harder than normal.
And he is fine. Bg is 84 and going up. This was the worst low we've had in ages but I knew it was coming. I figured the high was because he was up snacking all night which he confirmed. And the technology is amazing but when youre high for a long time the increased dosing to correct coupled with regular bolusing for carbs ends up stacking insulin creating a rebound low.
I can't believe I let us run out of juices. I need to get that figured out to avoid it happening in the future.

But when he's asleep I need something I can give him quickly while he may be trying to roll over, push me or the juice away/etc. So something that can be kept in his room and isn't going to spill is ideal.

As expected work is dead today. I'd say at least 75% of the office is out. Reminds me of 2020 when only engineering was working on site. Very quiet and relaxing.

I'm doing the simultaneous work and child care thing. Shades of the pandemic stress are coming right back. This isn't helpful but I really can't imagine having young kids again at this stage. As much as I always said I wanted a shoe-full. I would have lived out that rhyme entirely. Which is all to say - I see you. Hugs. Same. I wanted a ton of them until I realized how hard it was. I'm honestly surprised mine survived into adulthood.

I just tell folks mine turned out OK in spite of having me as a mother
