Didn't you buy a house a few years ago? Am I mixing you up with someone else? No, I did buy one but I sold it at the height of the market and moved to an apartment. Same. I got way more money than I thought I would for my house. I'm currently renting a townhouse and waiting for the market to swing back around. Then I'll buy something.

I have a second interview next week.
I'm trying not to get too excited. I don't know that they can/will pay me enough, even if I am actually picked.
It is nice, though, to have someone that continues to show excitement/enthusiasm towards you.

I still have this crap in my throat and coughing. Hubs said people in the local restaurant have it and keep going there. He told the old guy he knows in his 90's he might want to stay away from there for awhile. My head is killing me, ibuprofen isn't helping much either and I just took my last antibiotic. Once these cough pills are done, I don't know, likely still going to have to hit the local ER before I leave.
I did go out and took the lights off the fence and put them away while its isn't raining and 50 and put the extension cords up. Put a few inside things away, was going to wait till after New Years but decided to go ahead in case I get sicker.
I need to decide what to cook later, thinking some oriental rice and cut up some thin loin pork chops to put in it. That should be good.
Ok, going to wash my hair and fix it, I look pretty bad.

I make tamales sometimes but it takes me 2 days. I cook and season the meat all one day, than the next day soaking corn shucks and putting masa on them, than meat. Than they have to be steamed in a kettle. I usually make 12 dozen. They are really good, I order the seasoning and shucks online to use. I usually buy a pork roast or shoulder and cook it till tender, makes for good ones. The loin meat is too dry for me and wrong texture. We will fix a dozen at a time for dinner as they are rather small. I have beans and rice with them a lot of times and tortillas. A very tasty dinner. I see a lot of folks over on my Instant Pot FB page raving about cooking tamales in the pot instead of steaming on the stove. They swear it's faster, easier, and great flavor. I'm not making tamales anytime soon but I hope to try stuffed grape leaves in the Instant Pot this spring

A TopGolf opened here recently and was wondering if any of you peeps have had any experience with them in your town. Used to golf but not sure I want to go back to full blown golf course but hitting balls in a/c might be good exercise. Gotta keep these old bones moving or I'll be moaning and groaning all over the place. Plus have sports bar and restaurant. Any feed back will be appreciated. It's a good time, but it's very expensive IMO. Depending on the day/time you can plan on paying $30-60/hour to play. At least at the one here. You alao have to pay for food and drinks. I might do it for a bigger group, but I'm pretty cheap at the same time. I've only been when my workplace paid for it. topgolf.com/us/overland-park/#pricingI’m cheap too. Tuesday is half price And I’m an early bird so maybe give Tuesday mornings a try. Not like I’m going every day. I’m back to walking so just trying to add something to break the boredom syndrome I’ve fallen into with exercise.

we just got a Top Golf here, it's like an hour from me. I've never been to one anywhere else, do they offer lessons? I'm curious to continue on the lesson I took in Cancun last spring.

Had lunch with my DIL. She told me that DS told her that he told me. I’m glad he did. She isn’t going the IVF route and if it doesn’t happen naturally then it just won’t happen. She had so planned to tell me at Christmas and it was such a disappointment to her. I told her that I loved her regardless of whether she had a child or not and so does my son. She did tell her mother who of course was not caring about her disappointment but did of course mention her age and all the problems involved with an older woman getting pregnant and having a healthy baby. Sigh. My mother was equally foul but I was able to ignore her. DIL isn’t able to, yet. So they’re going to try for a few years then call it good. I hope it works out for them.

I think Top Golf does offer lessons. Not sure it's the most cost efficient place to get lessons though.

I'd literally never held a golf club (other than mini golf) prior to last spring's lesson. my curiosity is more about how mixed of a bag of clubs I'd need to actually play. I'm absolutely a lefty putter, but couldn't figure out the pitch wedge* lefty. but I nailed it righthanded. *whatever's the 2nd club they teach you?

My suggestion is to pull website for one in you area. I show they will provide clubs if you opt for that. I haven’t checked out to see if they offer lessons. Only because I’ve golfed before though long ago. I’m just looking to swing and hit We have lots of golf courses here and lessons are offered. But not cheap even on public courses or even courses on colleges here. The website is super informative. Just a thought.

When DH and I were having problems to have our 2nd, we consulted for IVF but decided against it. Part of it was due to cost and the unknown factor if it would work. If it did, great! If not, then out money and still no baby. I was semi-open to adoption but DH wasn’t. We just let it happen naturally and whatever happens is what happens. On the 7th pregnancy, we had DD2 (and I had some bleeding off and on during that pregnancy-DD2 is perfectly healthy when she was born)! Good luck to your DIL and DS and I hope it works for them! ((((Hugs))))

I feel like crap. Yesterday, I stayed in bed all day. I didn’t even leave the bedroom until late yesterday afternoon, and that was just to get some Sprite to drink and an apple to eat. I didn’t do anything at all, not even some of the stuff I normally do even if I don’t feel well. The whole house could’ve burned down around me yesterday, and I’m not sure I would’ve even had the energy to try to crawl to safety. I still feel like crap today, but not quite as bad as I did yesterday. My sinus issues don’t really feel any worse than what I’m use to what it feels like when they act up, except that I’ve had a headache off and on. My ears and throat have hurt off and on, and I can feel gunk in my throat , but none of that is unusual when my sinuses go haywire, except for the headaches. Out of all my aches and pains, I very rarely have headaches. My stomach is not okay either, but it’s not like the stuff I’ve been dealing with for the last year. It’s not hurting and cramping, it feels more like really uncomfortable vs painful. Idk what is wrong with me, I just really, really do not feel good and I am tired as fuck.

I’m not sure. I have issues with my sinuses anyway and while he does have sinus issues sometimes, it’s not to the same extent as what I deal with. But he WAS congested and had headaches and issues with his throat hurting. He also had bad body aches. So, some of the same symptoms he had, but not all of them. And the fact that I have sinus issues that cause a lot of the same symptoms he had, makes it hard to tell. UGH!

I got the lovely surprise today that my car insurance rates are going. And when I called to inquire why, all I could get out of the woman who answered the phone was “do you want to talk about changing your coverage to lower your rate?” No! I want to know why you upped my rates by almost 50%!!! For which her only answer was “it’s an across the board rate hike the government instituted for everyone in the state.”
now, look. I live in Texas, and companies/government/most people do stupid shit every day for stupid reasons. And maybe that’s what this is. But also, it’s equally possible this lady is just making shit up. And she couldn’t connect me to my actual agent, and when I asked very nicely she literally ignored me and asked if I wanted to change my plan to lower my rate.
at any rate, I am now going to be shopping around. Which I don’t have time for, but will absolutely be doing to save money. Plus I’m now mad at this office, so eff them. But also, I’m a little overwhelmed since the last time I did this was probably a decade ago.

We have State Auto and so far are happy with the rates and Erie insurance also. I worry though changing the LLC out will raise the rates on our 2 homes. I don't even know what I have here in Washington, would have to pull the contract out to see, I don't remember. Our cars are all covered in Indiana and our agent said it was fine. Thankfully we haven't had claims in years. Up here I think we paid about $775, I could have gotten cheaper but told hubs if it burned wanted to get all we could back out of it so replacement value. It was only something like $100 a year more.
For the tamales, I do cook the meat in the instant pot till I can pretty much cut it easily, than I take it all off the bone and take the fat out of it and put it in a pot on the stove. After that add all the seasonings and let it cook for a long time to blend the flavors. I never thought about steaming them in the instant pot, I will try a few next time. It is a pain in the butt to do them on the stove and that might really speed the process up. I even bought a steamer to do them in. But I want them coming out rather firm and not all mushy, but not to dry either.
I'm thrilled our electric and heat bill back home for last month was $50. But we used up the kwh's we had banked so next month will be the real deal. But that helps offset what I will spend here so good deal to me.
Grandson and I went to the grocery store again. I think I'm going to have to have son subsidize his care, LOL! He is eating me out of house and home. They had soup for dinner, we went to the store and bought another $100 of food. I asked if he wanted a Subway, yes, he ate that before coming home. Now he is eating grapes. I bought fruit and veggies and he is only 8 and I swear no filling him up. Before he went to bed last night, he had mac and cheese after dinner. He is growing that's for sure. I don't remember son eating that much, but he probably did, my mom kept him a lot.
I'm raising rolls in the oven now, we will likely snack on those. I really like Rhodes frozen rolls. For a time they didn't taste good but they are back being good again.

But also, I’m a little overwhelmed since the last time I did this was probably a decade ago. That is part of the problem. After a certain point and no issues insurance companies seem to like to increase rates on long term customers. When you go shopping there will probably be a increase just not the 50% they are foisting on you. I know that for me and moving etc., I am keeping my car insurance with the old company for the next year. I was going to switch to the company that I have the shore house with, but the industry has been freaking out over the last year and I would have to jump through several hoops and have a tracker on the car/phone which I just refuse to do. I am hoping that 2025 things have cooled down in my area. I also was informed that SF has pulled out of coastal CA besides FL (part of the reason I was changing companies) so just a FYI to peeps.

We looked into private adoption when we were having problems getting me on the right clomid dosage for #2. I decided that was a road I didn't want to go down. We couldn't compete with families that had money and sets of loving grandparents.

Good morning, intentional invisipeeps, plotting planning your days and year ahead. Welcome to Thursday, New Year's Eve eve eve eve. I guess I'm really pushing it there. In any case I hope this day you are well and happy, or failing that, at least recovering and not miserable. And I hope you have enough leftover foodstuffs to satiate yourself and family. I'm going to stop because this is not getting better, just longer. Today is rainy. Unclear to me if Franklin the Dog and I will go to the beach this morning or not. I should go to the grocery store today. I need to bring DD and a cat to the vet's to follow up on a cough, which is apparently much better now. The cat, not DD. I need to do more writing. Also, clean up the guest room and stow photography stuff in the basement until spring. Except for one show in January we won't be needing much up here. Yesterday and the day before were foggy gray days. I took photos both days. The first one is beautiful in the fog but has a sad story. Don't read the spoiler if you don't want to read something sad. The tree arches over neighbor benches facing the wall of deep fog over the bay. Under the tree very young women maintain a memorial to a very young man who committed suicide there a few months ago. I don't know if it was violent. There are enormous boulders a few feet away that go down a sort of cliff into the water. In the second one a flock of tiny dinosaurs fly from one of the jetties to the open water. The sky is gray, gray, gray. You can see the gap between the islands in the distance leading to the ocean. A channel marker is in the gap.

I’m assuming that’s a good thing since I know zilch about reproduction other than the basics so I just nodded my head like I understood. .

I need to get moving. my parents will be here soon to hang out with the pups all day and keep LD quiet. I have a dentist appointment and I'm meeting a coworker for lunch.
I'm also curious why my generator is running outside rn, it's not very windy at all in today's rain. 🤔

taz157 we renewed our passes for 2024. If you go a couple times I find it to be worth it. I wouldn't say we got our full value for 2023 but it was a bad year for us. If you get at least full size, you get free parking. That's getting expensive. We plan to try and go more in 2024.

finnime As always I love your photos. The benches in fog one is amazingly poignant, even before I knew the back story on the memorial. In some ways, it's like a memorial to all the souls lost at sea over time although it's meant for one beloved person

But also, I’m a little overwhelmed since the last time I did this was probably a decade ago. I don't think the person you spoke to yesterday was 100% accurate. The State of Texas doesn't directly set rates; they allow companies to submit their proposed rate structures to the State where they can be approved or denied. Our Texas auto policy went up about 40% despite no losses in forever. I did discuss this with my agent (we use an independent for home and auto) and she said the primary factors driving the increase by ALL carriers are #1 Texas has a very high rate of accidents and stolen vehicles #2 Texas has a very high rate of auto loss due to natural disasters like hurricane, hailstorm, tornado etc., and #3 the design of new vehicles and rising cost of replacement parts creates a higher cost per claim. As an example, she mentioned the fancy tailgate on some new Ford pickups. It lifts, it folds, it opens like a door, it has integrated electronic stuff and it costs $10,000 to replace if you are rear-ended. We hadn't changed carriers in decades but when we put our home in a trust last year, Hartford cancelled us so we went shopping for both coverages and got better coverage for less $$$.

soupandstew - yes, all of that makes sense. And it wasn't my agent I spoke with, it was her assistant who just refused to either put me through or tell me that she was out of the office or whatever. I'm not surprised our rates are going up, for all the reasons you mentioned, plus, until this year, I had thought our rates were rather low, compared with other places we've lived. Mostly I'm annoyed that it's going to take work on my part to compare rates 😝 It needs to be done, and we should have probably done it years ago, but literally until yesterday, DH was against it. He's old school and thinks b/c he's been with this company for most of his adult life, we'll get better service, they care about us, etc etc. And all of this is on top of a super expensive car repair DH had yesterday on his 10 year old car. But given the current insurance rates, he better treat his 10 year old car like gold b/c I do not want to have to insure a newer car anytime soon, haha.

Sweet. New state law on sick time. They have to let us roll over up to 80 hours a year now, and we can use it for if school is closed for weather. I will now be taking sick days whenever it snow.

I think Top Golf does offer lessons. Not sure it's the most cost efficient place to get lessons though. this is more of a curious thing, though. not like I'm trying to make the senior tour haha. *whatever's the 2nd club they teach you? driver, putter, 6 or 7 iron, will get you through, and having a wedge would be decent but not essential.
