I have really been enjoying time spent with Kiddo. He wanted to know what I’m doing on my IPad, which is playing a lot of Sudoku. So I showed him how to play, and he picked it right up, and I’ve been playing easy games to help him learn, and he’s been “helping” me when I play more difficult games. He really is very smart. I fuss at him about messing up my stats on the app when he “guesses” and it’s wrong. He giggles when I fuss about messing up my stats. He said the game works your brain. I like it because it forces you to think logically to complete the puzzle correctly, but I didn’t know how to put that in kiddie words to tell him. He apologized for not calling me in my birthday because he doesn’t have my phone number, which I gave him this evening. He asked what his Dad did for me for my birthday, and wanted to know how old I am. I dodged the question about how old I am, then finally told him, and he was shocked lol. He didn’t realize I was older than his Dad. Then he told me what year I must’ve been born in, and I said yep, you are right. He has pretty much been glued to my side since yesterday, when I’ve been home. I don’t mind it, I am actually pleased that he seems to enjoy my company. Even though I’ve shared a lot of stuff here, about his bad behavior, he is NOT a “bad” kid. He did try me for a while, but once we got an understanding of what I expected of him and what I would and would not tolerate, we have gotten along very well. He just does normal kid stuff, which is fine with me, because he IS a child, but nothing on the level of the things his Mom constantly complains about. I love reading about you and Kiddo. You are teaching him what a relationship with a mother should be. Someday he will understand and be happy for this.

I didn't because it was too much and I would have had to stay in Des Moines. Another woman did and won with back pay, etc. She was already blackballed so she quit the day after she got her money. I was able to stay with my agency and have a good career in a place where they were much more open minded. And this * s exactly why I cringe every time I hear a young woman say she is not a feminist because they (the feminists) are just "man haters". After all our generation went through they just assume that it was always like it is today and it will just really get better to where it needs to be just because they have showed up. I hope that the overthrow of Roe v. Wade has shown them how precarious these gains are and they will wake up in time. *for the record TheOtherMe and I are of the same vintage - a very good year indeed Women saying they are not a feminist is one of my triggers. I paid the price and I know many other women who did also so they could have the opportunities they have.

The bitch did it again! I know it was her because we went outside for the last time a half hour ago and I witnessed Jackson pooping so it wasn't him. How do you know when it's behavioral vs illness/old age? I'll probably call the vet on Monday and ask.

For real, I am a real person, and when someone says I don't think SNAP should cover alcohol it is personal to me. And yes for real Chiver. I am within the code of conduct as I DO NOT KNOW WHO SAID IT. AND stated that. Spacecoast Paul can call repeatedly for deaths of liberals and it gets a pass on the board cuz COC. This gets a pass too, because IT IS NOT A PERSONAL ATTACK. x 1000 I'm not asking WTF as pertains to the Code of Conduct. I'm asking it because you're completely fucking out past left field! you continue to use this NON-word "underfunded" as a description to this victimhood you perceive. and out of the other side of your mouth, you talk about how your life has no meaning if you have to drive a boring but reliable car to get your shit done. I just can't with you. go find another job that pays better, or find a second, in order to fund the life you want. alcohol isn't necessary to live. cars aren't necessary to live. food is, and that's what SNAP is for. I'm going to go back to ignoring you. I have enough of my own shit to worry about these days. SNAP stands for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. Maybe she thought A stood for alcohol. Seriously though, I've been pretty poor before. Like barely keeping the lights on poor. I never stopped to think that my car had anything to do with the meaning of life. I guess I didn't know how to be poor. ETA: I guess I never realized that the government should be funding alcohol for me either. Damn me! I've been doing life wrong all this time!

I tried to teach the peanut cribbage tonight.
The elf is eating a bowl full of marshmallows while he's settling in to watch tv.
We'll see if we can get the elf going on the tv tomorrow before the missy wakes up.

That's what we are concerned about is access to medical care. I went to the urgent clinic today. I didn't have enough antibiotics, it was clearing me up but I've been coughing and the side of my chest hurt. Plus I have a splitting headache. I had been wheezing but they did a chest x ray and said it was clear. She decided sinus and sinus drainage so gave me another antibiotic and cough syrup, plus a decongestant. They said don't drive after taking the one. I didn't sleep good for 2 nights. And I may not be wheezing now but I sure was, but that's an improvement. Bought lobster claws, shrimp, and clam chowder at Costco. The crab legs are much better than the lobster claws so won't buy those again. Also bought some some Korean stuff we will try. Likely not as good as what DIL makes but easy for me. I had little guy go home this afternoon. I didn't want to have to take him to the doctor with me today and didn't want him to catch anything, he wanted me to come back and get him but I said I would tomorrow. His dad told him let grandma rest. I don't think us waiting outside in the cold for DIL to park and than retrieve the car did us any good. DD hasn't acted like she feels all that good today either after her episodes. She like to never got into the theater without fainting, I had to help her. And she made it out but standing and waiting she got very weak. I really think its her heart. I need to talk to her heart doc when we get back, she hasn't had one of these episodes for a year at least, poor thing. I don't think DIL understands, she asked me to watch little guy and take him to the bathroom while she went to get the car. I told her I couldn't, had to help DD, she acted miffed. Good grief lady stop and look at what a time I had getting her in and out. That theater was not disability friendly, yes it had elevators but we were down a floor. Son apparently should have said that and got different tickets, but I doubt he even thought about it We may have to end up buying her a wheelchair after all, a light weight one of some kind. Hubs has suggested it. I didn't really want to do it yet. Doing that seems so darn final. So Walk what is access around Olympia like, I know son has had long waits to get in places? Population must be growing to fast. I can’t tell you about Olympia, it’s too far south for me. I try to keep my doctors on the northern side of Seattle. The ones I have are ones I have an established relationship with. Getting in isn’t asy, but you become a priority once you are an established patient. For instance, my orthopedic surgeon has a 6+ month wait as a new patient. I can get in in about 3 weeks for a check up. In an emergency, he will (and has in the past) make room ASAP. Setting up healthcare providers around here is a process that can take awhile.

Then I would go do something like start dinner and would find a puddle 30 min later. He did this all the time. But Harpo was TD’s dog and needed to make the decision. I didn't mention his senility, but he was home awhile and saw how frequently I was taking him out and how many puddles I was still cleaning up.

16+ dozen sugar cookies cut out and baked. We made 4 batches of peanut blossoms, but I'm not sure how many that came out to. Not rolled, but we have a batch of gingersnap dough made, and my mom has another cookie dough done.
I might do the saltine candy tray in the morning, and I'd really like to get a batch of chocolate chip cookies, but I think I'll need to do bars realistically.
Counted up pet sitting and I have 26 hours of it in the next couple weeks. So too much, but also doable. Acknowledged that I'm letting fear drive me too much. What I'm earning for that 26 hours (not including drive time but thankfully all but 1 is within 5 minutes of my house) is the same as what I'd be annoyed af to spend 10 hours at on my real job. And since I have the work coming in so far at my "real job" I need to focus there and just work on increasing that instead of adding these extras.
I haven't figured out how to not stress like crazy if I'm not so busy I can't see straight, but honestly now I'm stressed because I'm so worried about dropping balls.

Going to bed earlier tonight, have all my pills on board plus cough syrup so hope I'm not awake with sinus drip and coughing or just not able to sleep. 2 nights in a row, and not like me, once I hit the bed generally asleep.
Little guy wanted to come back but I told him not tonight, not feeling 100% and was concerned he could catch something. I 'm not contagious, she said could even be some allergies involved, probably, so good night all.

I am currently drinking a Hungarian version. In German, I think it is Spatlese (umlauts missing). I'm a fan of Innskillen, which is currently $60 for a half bottle *wine bottle size* and I think the one I am working on is about half that or less. It is not an ice wine but the one right before it in German parlance. I think I decided to get it after Mich or someone decided us underfunded folks were not worth funding small alcohol purchases even though our lives are quite hard and on the margins. I personally am surprised there aren't more underfunded folks committing suicide or drinking themselves to death. USA indeed. Opti, do you not have any sense of self-preservation at all? You are in your early 60s, don't have a penny to your name and you proudly tell us that you are drinking wine you cannot afford just because someone said alcoholic beverages should not be available on food stamps? That is just such a childish reaction. One I'd expect from my 6yo grandson - I'd expert better from his almost 10yo brother. You need to take a good hard look in the mirror and come up with a feasible plan for the next few years as that is all that you have realistically have left in working years. Dreaming about getting a high paying job based on (in IT terms) ancient job skills is not going to help you. Dreaming about a biggish settlement from AAA for a car is not going to help you, nor is it going to happen. You were able to keep that car years ago when you went through bankruptcy so even at that time its monetary value was minimal. There are few options left open to you like a better paying job in the field you are current in or adding a part time (WFH?) gig and you better get cracking. Unless a person is born a trust fund baby nobody's life is funded. We all need to work and save to have the money we need to pay for our life. Based on your own posts regarding your education you, unlike CGs daughter, were born with the tools to do so -> a good brain. Use it. Your clock is running out!!! I know none of this is what you want to hear but it may be kindest thing I have ever posted for you. I really don't want you to end up as a bag lady.

I think I made the best mashed potatoes ever tonight. I had about 8 pounds of potatoes to get rid of so decided to just boil them all up. Lots of butter and half and half in them, so they should freeze well...if I don't eat them all. I made a huge batch of mashed potatoes, and I ate it all up. I can only eat bland foods...potatoes, bananas, etc., because the inside of my mouth is still torn up. I haven't gone anywhere because I still look like I've been dragged behind a pick-up truck, face-down, on a dirt road somewhere I must say, it's getting remarkably better with aloe, Vitamin E oil and Vitamin C.

The pinata was dangling from a dried decorative tree branch. From a thread, I think. Those elves are so creative! As long as I'm not doing the creative part! 😁)

I do. I’d like to live in a smaller town but good medical care is located in cities. Oddly enough, until I changed doctors recently, I didn’t use the hospital I volunteer at. You know what is scary. When you work in a medical center and have to use the hospital that you work as a part of. I didn’t realize until I spent 11 days there and checked out against medical advice. You don’t want to listen to DD when she tells me her hospital stories. Especially when she tells me DH’s kidneys didn’t have to be destroyed from the antibiotics he was given because there’s one that does the same job but is a bit more expensive. She has had to go up against doctors trying to overrule her because of this. She wins because she can’t be intimidated but it hurts to know that doctors know better and will still ruin a patient life for no reason other than money.

Good morning, intensely working invivispeeps preparing for the holidays. And making plans for healthcare in a very locally defined service. Welcome to Sunday, one week until Christmas Eve and five days until the winter solstice. I hope your day provides a respite from snags and issues and difficult people, and offers eggnog if you like or hot cider, and cookies. Christmas cookies or Hannukah rugalach. Today I will have to be in full mode of preparation. Tomorrow I must mail DS's and friends' gifts and also holiday cards to all. Plus some calendars I sold, happily. Yesterday I colored my hair and made Neapolitan cookies that DH has been asking for. Plus cooked a roast beef--strip steak, 3 lbs. It was awesome. DD was here working for the last time on my website. I think she's done now. It looks good to me. It is supposed to start raining later today. I need to get Franklin to the beach now. This is yesterday's sunrise, with rocks and tiny dinosaurs:

CG a lot of places like that have wheelchairs you can borrow. I have seen people ask for a transport wheelchair to borrow on next door. Transport wheelchair is meant to be smaller/lighter easy to get in and out of car. Not meant for someone to sit in for a long time. I don’t think they are particularly expensive. I have not bought any christmas presents. Well I bought 3 so far and have misplaced one. Now that I think about it, I did buy DD $330 worth of clothing for training on her new job, but I gave it all to her already so she can try on/exchange. Thinking about Kiziks or Sketchers slip on shoes for my FIL if I can find them. DH has to confirm size. I always take mom to church Saturday. Saturday at 4 is considered a “Sunday” Mass. Christmas Eve mass is 4 or 6:30 and Christmas Day is at 10 am. My Family Christmas Celebration starts at 3 at my Brothers so we are not going to church on Christmas eve. So, I ended up telling mom I will take her to Church Sat and Monday. I also told her I will get her groceries maybe Friday and I am taking her to her Prayer hour Wednesday from 1-2 so my lunch will prolly be 2 hours. Then on Tuesday I made an appt to whiten my teeth. We don’t have house clean or tree up. I was supposed to sign up to work a half day the Friday Before Christmas or Friday Before New Years. I did not sign up for either, but by default I am working the Friday before New Years unless DH comes up with tickets to a bowl game. So, I guess I can catch up Friday. Overate today. I gained about 2 pounds since Wednesday. At this rate my clothes won’t fit by Christmas Day. Eta. I started talking about Christmas gifts because people always seem to buy my bottles of red wine for christmas. I do not drink red wine and I never did. I drink white wine. About 10 years ago, I consider myself to have had a drinking problem. I quit cold turkey when I decided I was a bad example for my kids. I now only drink socially. Only drink at home if we have company. I try to only drink 2 drinks per occasion, but if DH pours 1 drink=2. Our Bar is so well stocked it could be a commercial establishment. DH also doesn’t drink much due to his diabetes. A lot of the liquor in the bar was gifted too. I told DD we are going to have to tell people if you open a bottle and it is not good, it and open a new one (this said d.u.m.p it and open a new one, in edit mode, but as soon as I exit and see what it says the word d.u.m.p. is not there? Weird)(due to it being old). I sometimes think I should regift the red wine, or the beer that invariably gets left here after a party, but I hate the idea of feeding an alcoholic’s bad habits. I would rather they struggle to afford the alcohol and face the consequences of their decisions. You could donate the red wine to the church to use for communion. Catholic and Lutheran churches use real wine. Most other churches use juice.

I have found chicken feet at Walmart. About the only thing I will enter their doors for, and I have to really be desperate for bones for my bone broth. Grocery store wasn't too awfully crowded and was in and out about half an hour. I chose the wrong checkout - the woman in front of me had 15 gift cards. I got the salmon and will start the marinade after I put everything else away. report back how you like it, please. this is a little bit different than what I normally do for chicken thighs, mostly in the addition of some lemon juice for the fish. Happy to report that it was a hit. I had larger pieces that I cut down for the marinade, so I doubled the recipe. It was the first time I had actually cooked salmon and it came out perfectly! I used the baking method because I was roasting the broccoli. Next time I'll try broiling. Just because I wanted to get the step done it ended up marinating for about 3 hours. ETA - I also do something similar for chicken thighs. Without the lemon and the sugar.

This is a big week coming up. I have a first discussion with a potential new job on Monday. First interview on Tuesday for a different job. Everyone is working through their lists so they can have a break. Which means, I'm going to have a metric shit ton to to do, on top of already too much to do at work. Because I'm at the end of the line. Our holiday schedule is completely up in the air. Which is stressing the shit out of me. The kids will be home for two weeks. TWO. WEEKS. DH can't afford to take off from work. He doesn't have PTO. So, we'd just be out the money. And we're looking at going to minnesotapaintlady 's neck of the woods for Spring Break for a few days. So, DH is going to need to miss work for that. I can't afford to take time off, because at some point, I'm just going to be so sunk the only thing I'll be able to do is cry. And, that does not ensure our customers have what they need by our big deadline. I haven't had a real break since Sept 22. I am starting to feel it. Real break is scheduled for June of 24. Lord hope I make it that far.

Speaking of drugs and their costs, some may remember my whine about having to switch from rosuvastatin to atorvastatin because the clinic no longer wants to pay the higher cost of rosuvastatin. I actually may have benefited from that forced change as a story popped up in my feed yesterday about a study showing a higher incidence of diabetes in patients on rosuvastatin versus atorvastatin. Granted, it was a relatively small study but still...... Also, someone or ones ? here mentioned taking proton pump inhibitors for acid reflux and I saw a story about a link between long-term use of that class of drugs and development of dementia www.cnn.com/2023/08/09/health/acid-reflux-medication-dementia/index.htmlETA: I think the poster used the name for the generic drug, omeprazole

Quickly scanning before second cup of coffee gave me pause as I just sort of latched onto the words "colored my hair" and "Neapolitcan". For a brief moment I had a very interesting visual

That was the tipping point for us leaving FL. Long waits for healthcare, and NOBODY gave referrals. You had to find doctors & specialists on your own, unless the doctor had a personal friend. There have been some incidents with our friends that have essentially slapped us in the face as to how inadequate the local healthcare is. 10+ years ago after my experience in the local hospital happened, I told TD never again. The hospital was a clusterf#$& from the time I hit my room after surgery. I have since had 2 friends die due to their being a clustef#$&. A third friend is being sent to Seattle for a relatively minor procedure. I really don’t get it why it’s so bad here. This is a lucrative enough place to live to try to recruit talent, the only thing I can think of is that the only available hospital is so bad is that it drives doctors away. I would guess HCOL? The pay probably does not make up for the very high rent or low housing stock.

I would rather they struggle to afford the alcohol and face the consequences of their decisions. that d.u.m.p. thing is an automatic censor for the page. I looked up the censored stuff recently for another question like this, it may have actually been the same word. but basically, any of the things that would be disparaging name-calling aimed at the most recent POTUS is on a list with other unsavory words that are either substituted or just removed. the Politics forum was pretty salty for awhile there, but the censored words list can't be contained to just one area and so we all get to play. HTH 🙂
