Speaking of drugs and their costs, some may remember my whine about having to switch from rosuvastatin to atorvastatin because the clinic no longer wants to pay the higher cost of rosuvastatin. I actually may have benefited from that forced change as a story popped up in my feed yesterday about a study showing a higher incidence of diabetes in patients on rosuvastatin versus atorvastatin. Granted, it was a relatively small study but still...... Also, someone or ones ? here mentioned taking proton pump inhibitors for acid reflux and I saw a story about a link between long-term use of that class of drugs and development of dementia www.cnn.com/2023/08/09/health/acid-reflux-medication-dementia/index.htmlThe dementia link between protein pump inhibitors and dementia has been known since 2015 if not earlier. A shocking amount of drugs can cross the blood brain barrier and since it was assumed impenetrable for decades there is no research telling us what those drugs are doing to our brains. Same with the placental barrier. Medicine has operated and continues to operate too much under one part one medication and doesn't stop to think about what it can do to the rest of your body. I attended an amazing lecture on this. She said for example living to develop congestive heart failure due to your AIDS medication is very clearly worth it compared to the outcome of not treating it. But dementia in exchange for no heartburn? Medicine should be asking and we should be asking about alternatives rather than whipping out the prescription pad as a first response.

I think I made the best mashed potatoes ever tonight. I had about 8 pounds of potatoes to get rid of so decided to just boil them all up. Lots of butter and half and half in them, so they should freeze well...if I don't eat them all. You could add more milk and make potato soup. I'm doing that this week with some extra potatoes I need to use. I also found an unopened container of sour cream that's expiration date is coming up. T1 will be in hog heaven, she loves potato soup. We'll have it with cheese and bacon on top. Yum.

The bitch did it again! I know it was her because we went outside for the last time a half hour ago and I witnessed Jackson pooping so it wasn't him. How do you know when it's behavioral vs illness/old age? I'll probably call the vet on Monday and ask. This sounds like Harpo at the end. I would take the dog out hourly to pee, he’d pee. Then I would go do something like start dinner and would find a puddle 30 min later. He did this all the time. But Harpo was TD’s dog and needed to make the decision. I didn't mention his senility, but he was home awhile and saw how frequently I was taking him out and how many puddles I was still cleaning up. Macy isn't near the end of her life. She's otherwise healthy which makes me think it's behavioral. She's also not a puppy anymore which makes me wonder about old age. Hopefully the vet has some insight.

She'll be 8 in May.

I haven't figured out how to not stress like crazy if I'm not so busy I can't see straight, but honestly now I'm stressed because I'm so worried about dropping balls. I feel this, hard. When trying to come up with alternatives to this behavior apparently day drinking or chain smoking are not appropriate answers according to my therapist.

You've talked about her past it could be stress related too. Animals can form connections we aren't even aware of maybe something with the house or the move reminds her of her past and once she realizes you aren't going anywhere and she won't be harmed she'll stop. Or She's pissed at you for moving and is doing the dog equivalent of flipping you the bird. Phoebe does that every time my dad goes on vacation. First night only and right where if I wasn't aware of her trick I'd step in it. I call it her Fuck you poops.

Only two new things have happened since we moved. One is that I started giving them prebiotics that my vet recommended, but we've been doing that for weeks and this just started a week or two ago. The other is that the unit next door which has been vacant is being renovated. There have been a couple of times where the banging has set the twins off, but I keep music blaring for the most part so they don't hear as much. Maybe she is pissed at me for something I did(n't) do. If so, I wish I knew what it was.

I tried to teach the peanut cribbage tonight. Did the Peanut like playing cribbage? That one of the games I played with my parents, my friends, my niece and nephews, etc. For what turned out to be dad's last Father's Day, he wanted to play cribbage, so we did. It's good for teaching kids numbers. Hopefully, she enjoyed cribbage. Lots of great memories of cribbage.

I had to look that up, those sound pretty tasty!
I had a bacon and egg quesadilla for breakfast. that was also pretty tasty. I'll probably do it again tomorrow, since I scrambled like 8 eggs (to share with the pups) and baked off a half pound of bacon.

CG a lot of places like that have wheelchairs you can borrow. I have seen people ask for a transport wheelchair to borrow on next door. Transport wheelchair is meant to be smaller/lighter easy to get in and out of car. Not meant for someone to sit in for a long time. I don’t think they are particularly expensive. I have not bought any christmas presents. Well I bought 3 so far and have misplaced one. Now that I think about it, I did buy DD $330 worth of clothing for training on her new job, but I gave it all to her already so she can try on/exchange. Thinking about Kiziks or Sketchers slip on shoes for my FIL if I can find them. DH has to confirm size. I always take mom to church Saturday. Saturday at 4 is considered a “Sunday” Mass. Christmas Eve mass is 4 or 6:30 and Christmas Day is at 10 am. My Family Christmas Celebration starts at 3 at my Brothers so we are not going to church on Christmas eve. So, I ended up telling mom I will take her to Church Sat and Monday. I also told her I will get her groceries maybe Friday and I am taking her to her Prayer hour Wednesday from 1-2 so my lunch will prolly be 2 hours. Then on Tuesday I made an appt to whiten my teeth. We don’t have house clean or tree up. I was supposed to sign up to work a half day the Friday Before Christmas or Friday Before New Years. I did not sign up for either, but by default I am working the Friday before New Years unless DH comes up with tickets to a bowl game. So, I guess I can catch up Friday. Overate today. I gained about 2 pounds since Wednesday. At this rate my clothes won’t fit by Christmas Day. Eta. I started talking about Christmas gifts because people always seem to buy my bottles of red wine for christmas. I do not drink red wine and I never did. I drink white wine. About 10 years ago, I consider myself to have had a drinking problem. I quit cold turkey when I decided I was a bad example for my kids. I now only drink socially. Only drink at home if we have company. I try to only drink 2 drinks per occasion, but if DH pours 1 drink=2. Our Bar is so well stocked it could be a commercial establishment. DH also doesn’t drink much due to his diabetes. A lot of the liquor in the bar was gifted too. I told DD we are going to have to tell people if you open a bottle and it is not good, it and open a new one (this said d.u.m.p it and open a new one, in edit mode, but as soon as I exit and see what it says the word d.u.m.p. is not there? Weird)(due to it being old). I sometimes think I should regift the red wine, or the beer that invariably gets left here after a party, but I hate the idea of feeding an alcoholic’s bad habits. I would rather they struggle to afford the alcohol and face the consequences of their decisions. You could donate the red wine to the church to use for communion. Catholic and Lutheran churches use real wine. Most other churches use juice. Ha! Mormons use water! A minuscule amount and a crumb of dry bread, each.

And that is why I value my doctor so much. We agree that it's often best to look for and address root causes than treat symptoms. This story scares me because the rise in dementia is very alarming and I know far too many people who chew the OTC versions of PPI's like candy. The digestive aid/treatment section at Costco is one whole aisle long

Another rainy Sunday, another baking Sunday. We're supposed to get hit hard overnight, which always makes me nervous with river flooding. The river is predicted to crest at minor flooding levels, but it shouldn't reach the river ward neighborhood.
Husband and I got our picture taken with Krampus yesterday. That was fun.

I might be totally whacked by next week, considering my mom had Alzheimers, I sure hope not! I suffered from acid reflux for years, (maybe 22?), before I asked about it, from my new-ish doctor. I don't want to be tied up to a bed, or in a little room, in a few years. Yuck! Not a good time, if you ask me.

Wordle is being pushed to help people with or not get dementia. And WORLDLE is to show some of us how totally dumb we are about geography. The Walk of the Penguin Mich is one person that I bet can ace it These days, I play Wordle, Octordle, Quordle and Squareword. Squareword is a new one, my record is 7 and I can’t beat it. I am on a 247 day streak for Wordle. I want to see how long I can take it. If you want to count my 139 day streak reset (it happened when I crossed the international date line) I’m nearly at 400 days.

His comment was that when you boil potatoes, much of the flavor leaches out into the water…..which gets poured down the drain. He cooks his potatoes in half and half. After the potatoes are soft, he uses the half and half he cooked the potatoes in to add back to the mash (of course, with copious amounts of butter). My MIL HATES mashed potatoes, but she was all over mine. I do not do them this way regularly.

Hopefully the vet has some insight. Harpo went on to live another few years once he started this. He was totally ‘normal’ other than he had some behavioral changes. Some were totally out of character for him.

Not to complain, I know the economy is rough right now, but the wine they served for communion this morning wasn't the best. A woman near me actually was choking on it, as it had kind of a vinegar aftertaste. I vote yes to donating wine to your local church. We've done it.

Regarding dogs who poop in the house. Both of our dogs have attitude, and have done it to us. When we had a long weekend out of state, and DD was taking care of the dogs, they both pooped in the house the first night we got home.

I remember after surgery and I finally got something to eat. Well, liquids only, but I was starving. I'm guessing jello counts as a liquid. They gave the green one. I ate it all, but I was pissed off every bite. I would have been happy with black cherry, though. I drank some black coffee to get the taste out of my mouth. I've been very sick a few times in my life. "Last Rites" kind of sick. Many times I was only allowed to have ice chips. When I graduated to water and then to Jello, I knew I was going to make it. That's why Jello has only positive connotations for me. I was going to live! (Everyone loves black cherry. I don't know why they even make the green one.) Because lime jello is awesome.

Macy isn't near the end of her life. She's otherwise healthy which makes me think it's behavioral. She's also not a puppy anymore which makes me wonder about old age. Hopefully the vet has some insight. Harpo went on to live another few years once he started this. He was totally ‘normal’ other than he had some behavioral changes. Some were totally out of character for him. I'll have to keep an eye on her. I did find a bump on her which I plan to have looked at when she goes to the vet next. It looks like a whitehead. I just figured it was another lipoma but plan to have it looked at. I will say that it has been raining the past couple of days, so we'll see if she's just being a princess since the ground is wet. She generally won't go outside in the rain. Today isn't raining but the ton of leaves in the back of my unit are wet, so maybe that's it.
