Canned bread is blasphemy, unless you're on the International Space Station. please see the post you quoted, where I pointed out that I don't eat it, either. I'll reshare the link on the history of why this is a thing - link it was fizzling out as a regular thing when I was a kid, similar to other atrocities of that era like aspic and gelatin salads with shit suspended in them. but, a very regular thing in the homes of my friends on Saturday nights was chopped up hot dogs, New England baked beans, and this canned brown bread. I know that you don't eat it either. I wonder why it hasn't caught on everywhere else. A very popular Russian/Ukrainian food is pork Jello. That's the best way to describe it. Pork meat and bones are boiled for hours with spices until it turns into Jello and sometimes vegetables are added. It's freaking delicious, and eaten with horseradish and hearty black bread. I can't imagine a salad in gelatin. Kholodets

ohhhh......I just threw up a little in my mouth there. thanks for that. Yeah, my mother and DH's mother that that was good stuff. I didn't and still don't I still don't get head cheese, but my Sifu had us go once to a restaurant where head cheese and tongue was served. My dad liked both and used to joke that tongue was the food that tasted you back. This former student was an amazing chef, so I did taste the tongue, good but still scary, and I think admired the artistry and logic of head cheese. * Thankfully some more normal good food was served so I and other fellow students did not starve. * It does not help that people in Wisconsin call themselves cheese heads.

Yes, head cheese contains a lot of tongue. People learned to make use of every part of the animal.

We were off to the Old Town area in a neighboring community and it was fun - lots of little odd shops with gifts, antiques, food etc. The German store had a whole huge case of amber jewelry and it was very hard to resist but I did learn a lot by talking to the owner like different ways to detect fake amber or color-treated. There was a store selling bath products from neck rolls to bath bombs to an amazing selection of rubber duckies - duckies for kids, Christmas duckies, little duckies, big duckies, huge duckies, and adult duckies. My friend has a Jeep and there's this thing where you put little rubber ducks on a friend's Jeep. To cover the coming year, I got a red devil duck complete with horns and pitchfork, an orange glitter duck, a party duck with balloons, Mardi Gras beads and a party hat, and last but not least, a wonderful Donald Trump duck. My friend is a solid Trumper and I just had to. We tease each other all the time about our wildly different political perspectives, so this is perfect. The duck store lady said she can't keep that one in stock because people buy it if they love him, and they buy it if they hate him. It's one of her top sellers I want to buy one for my SonIL! I hate him, he loves him. Hahaha Such a duck!

I'm watching 90 Day.
This guy is converting to Islam so he can marry his love. His mother asks "Do Muslims celebrate Christmas?" He replies "No, they have another holiday....Yom Kippur." Are people really this clueless?

What should I eat for dinner? I'm not cooking. I don't want to go outside to get anything. I could order pizza I guess. I'm not really feeling pizza though. can of soup? I keep a few on hand for nights like that. Close. I made some ramen. It's cooling off on the kitchen counter now.

Dear God it's recorder season. Hot cross buns. Hot cross buns.
And they are fighting over it.
Why?
These things should be outlawed by the Geneva Convention.

Since there's only one tongue per beef, it's gotten really expensive too, about $20/lb. Beef tongue is one of the only reasons I keep my InstantPot pressure cooker. It's actually one of our very favorite forms of beef. I have texture issues with food so the whole head cheese thing just doesn't work for me. Ditto menudo where the tripe is rubbery, like a red pencil eraser. For some reason I'm okay with the chew factor of octopus, maybe it's the seasoning?

Yes, aspic. Natural stock from meat collagen. I grew up in the 50s and 60s. I've never seen those salads. We ate exclusively Russian food. If someone was to serve my mother those sweet salads, I think she'd die laughing.

Are people really this clueless? I watched that episode and wondered the same thing. Around here we all know the various holidays and their dates for Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, etc. ETA to add: If you don't know these things, you won't know when your local groceries and restaurants will be closed.

My go-to order was always a hot tongue sandwich on rye with yellow mustard and a cherry Coke.

Mom made what my sister and I called orange gunk. It was orange jello with something in it that we obviously didn't like.
She also made something with green jello. I think with pears.
I don't think I have ever made jello since I left home.

I remember after surgery and I finally got something to eat. Well, liquids only, but I was starving. I'm guessing jello counts as a liquid. They gave the green one. I ate it all, but I was pissed off every bite. I would have been happy with black cherry, though. I drank some black coffee to get the taste out of my mouth.

This evening Mister told me in front of Kiddo that Kiddo was yelling at his Mom this week.
So Kiddo and I had another conversation. I asked him what happened when he was yelling at his Mom. He told me she was fussing at him for not getting ready to go to school fast enough, and he was doing what he was supposed to do to get ready. I told him that I understand that we as parents get on our children’s nerves, fussing or whatever, but it’s not okay for him to yell at his Mom. It’s okay to be frustrated or upset, but it’s not okay for him to yell at her.
I’m not 100% sure of that advice though, because his Mom gets on everybody’s nerves. Really though in the past she’s acted like she can’t get him to go to bed at a reasonable time when he has school the next day, so he stays up until midnight or whatever, and then is cranky in the morning. Imo, that’s her fault. She’s asked Mister how he gets Kiddo to go to bed and Mister was like “uhhhh, I tell him to go to bed”. Then it is entirely possible that because she doesn’t like getting up in the morning herself, that she wakes Kiddo up at the last minute and ends up rushing him to get out of the house to get to school on time. Which would also be her fault.
So I’m not sure I handled that correctly, even though I do believe children shouldn’t yell at their parents, and Kiddo has a history of yelling at the adults in his home. I feel like children should be able to express themselves, even when they are upset or whatever, but I feel like it should be done in a respectful manner, and I think a child yelling at their parent is disrespectful….. but Kiddo’s Mom is something different from the kind of parents I’m use to.
The same thing that taught me that children should honor their parents, also says that parents should not provoke their children to wrath. Or something like that lol. Mister has said that his parents both said that Kiddo felt some type of way about his Mom. They had stopped answering her calls besides making arrangements to spend time with Kiddo, because it got to the point that she was even getting on their nerves with all the “woe is me” and whining and complaining.
So all the extra shit is wayyyy above my pay grade regarding how normal children should treat normal parents. I still don’t think children should yell at their parents, but I can see how she could get on his last nerve and cause that kind of reaction from him.
He is here until Sunday evening, and if I need to revisit the conversation we had this evening, before he goes home, I will. I just don’t know what to say. I don’t feel right condoning him yelling at his Mom, and I won’t, but at the same time, I can see ways that she might be causing him to react to her like that. Since he seems to be willing to talk to me and listen to me, I don’t want to make him think that I’m saying that his feelings aren’t valid and that he can’t express them.
I obviously don’t know what tf I’m doing, but I am trying to do right by him as much as I can.
OAN, he told me that he remembered at school this week what I’d said about him minding his own business to stay out of trouble, and told me specific instances. He still had a couple of hiccups, but imma go with the possibility that there would’ve been even more trouble if he hadn’t sometimes remembered what I’d told him lol.

Mister and I just had a long conversation. It didn’t devolve into an argument, but it still left me pissed off.
The bottom line is still that I have been a good, loving partner for him, and he has been good to me as far as material things go, but I require more from a good partner than material shit. With his most recent promotion, things happening with his job mean that his income will very likely increase again substantially soon, and he is already in 6 figures regarding income.
But I don’t care about the money. Even if he was earning millions, my dignity and self respect would still be beyond any price. Despite him trying to paint me as a gold digger, it is fact that he can be a billionaire, and I would still leave him if I don’t/didn’t feel like I am being treated right.

I've been very sick a few times in my life. "Last Rites" kind of sick. Many times I was only allowed to have ice chips. When I graduated to water and then to Jello, I knew I was going to make it. That's why Jello has only positive connotations for me. I was going to live! (Everyone loves black cherry. I don't know why they even make the green one.)

Good morning, gourmet and gourmand invisipeeps, exchanging jello ideas with and without meats. Welcome to Saturday. One brick and mortar shopping week until Christmas! I hope your day is both lively and lovely and offers you jello-free meals. It's interesting. When DD had to go on clear liquids for 2 days I went to buy some jello and all I found was the green stuff and various reds, which she couldn't eat. Jello has really gone out of favor in recent decades. I'm a bit disappointed. We went to pick up our pictures and things from the gallery. I had hopes that more of mine would have sold. I did sell some Counting Tiny Dinosaurs books and a calendar, but none of the wall art, although I was told it did get great feedback. Ah. well. We only started doing this this year. Given that, it's going fairly well. Bought DD a Christmas tree, small and pre-lit, and some ornaments. I had seen a very inexpensive table-top version that came with ornaments and a star on top. DH thought it important to get her something bigger and grander. We went to several stores and finally landed as a place I try to avoid: Walmart. They did have what we were looking for, so it ended well. After we wnet to the gallery we stopped by the nearby lighthouse. I like that holiday lights had been strung around the top walkway. I got this shot as the sun set:

I know that you don't eat it either. I wonder why it hasn't caught on everywhere else. A very popular Russian/Ukrainian food is pork Jello. That's the best way to describe it. Pork meat and bones are boiled for hours with spices until it turns into Jello and sometimes vegetables are added. It's freaking delicious, and eaten with horseradish and hearty black bread. I can't imagine a salad in gelatin. Kholodets your photo is an aspic. I'll pass, thanks. basically, a savory gelatin "salad". these salads from the 50s/60s/70s were of the sweet variety. floating pineapple, strawberries, and all sorts of other things in it. as far as why it *hasn't* caught on anywhere else? it's an old New England thing. it's one of those things that I see in my local foodie/home cook groups, posted by the much older members of the group. Not sleeping in spite of sleep helper. I think because I was so scared of how the dental work would feel my neck and shoulder muscles are all tensed up. It does take longer than average to numb out my jaw, and the first real polishing down my tooth did hurt. I'm just glad that is over, but I will have a tough morning as I only slept 1 hour (I hope now) instead of the 5 to 6 I was planning on.
Not sure how to answer the obliviousness of my boss who always seems to want her cake and eat it to when it comes to coverage and employee health. I know this is a problem at all levels of an organization, but it easier to take when you aren't on the bottom rung.

You’re on the right path. Good parenting is more than shoving the kid out of the door 5 minutes before the bus arrives. Glad to hear that kiddo is learning how to stay out of trouble at school. Does kiddo have his own alarm clock?

That salmon bulgogi sounds fantastic. DH has recently taken to salmon. I will be hitting the grocery store today, so I might surprise him with dinner tonight. I have all of the marinade ingredients, just need the salmon.
I don't usually cook on the days he works because until recently he didn't get home until 8. He now gets home just after 7.

Please pray for me today, especially while working my 5. Need to download the NJ transit app. Found out yesterday from a fellow bus rider why our bus was late and where it was stuck. Came earlier than I prayed for, so I was happy about that. Turns out my sleep helper med can't be refilled until Sunday or Monday. Next workday is Monday. Still have FMLA stuff to deal with. I realize part of the answer is obvious. My current PCP who was my doctor also in my mid to late twenties will sign the paperwork. Learning how their patient portal works has been mind bending as it works on office location including floor and suite. My new PCP (spring) will be moving to a new location anyway. It is on the bus line, and I know exactly where it is.
Wonder if some of my lack of sleep is my hydration is finally pushing old stuff out of my body. That last scrip precautions were super scary. I felt a little better when PCP Now told me why all the minerals were listed. Its a covalent thing, in this case they all have I think 2 free electrons? Science, but I remember that and took precautions.
Better stop typing and focus to get ready. .75 one way and perhaps I should buy a roll of dimes today too. for my trips to Pharmacy 1.
Going to check weather and see what I am dealing with morning into afternoon.

It's after 4AM and I can't sleep. I have terrible heartburn. And I'm tired of laying in bed. But I don't feel well enough to get up and get things done. However, I found out there will be a full apt inspection, either Tuesday, or Thursday, of the coming week. Seriously? 3 days before Christmas? But they won't tell us which day? (My family celebrates on the 24th, so I'm not happy about it.) I don't feel that well yet. I may end up up staying home, this year. And if mgmt wants to check out my apt, while I'm sick, they can consider themselves warned. Not my problem.
Hopefully, I will sleep soon.
I hope, in some way, you will enjoy your day, or consider it productive. 😊
