So I found out the reason I did not get the previous Associate Micrbiologist position is because I am considered too inexperienced due to my CURRENT position with the company and the fact it is in a different department.
I am going to have to consult with my dad because I do not have the curse word lexicon to describe how pissed off and insulted I am at a professional level right now.
I went back to re read the job description and I can highlight specific sentences in my resume that not only show I have experience but I am BEYOND a lot of people in senior management in both departments in terms of my technical knowledge and I am freaking published.
But because of my god damn title right this very moment I can't move up?!
What is wrong with this company?! Does all of corporate America work like this?! Not being able to move up because I didn't have a masters or a PhD while annoying I could get it's academics they expect you to have academics.
But NONE of my previous experience counts because it wasn't directly associated with the damn department I applied for?
God working at Target is sounding better and better!
Then I got even more confused and upset because we're talking about developing a plan for me so I can get the relevant experience. Wait five minutes ago I was the dumbest person in the lab who has single handedly destroyed productivity and customer satisfaction. Now I am smart enough to develop so I can move onwards/upwards.
WHICH IS IT?!
I am going to start drinking.

Sadly, NomoreDramaQ1015, your company has shown you who they are. You are not valued there, while you do have lots of great experience that another place would probably value. It's time to work somewhere new. My Mom actually had a rule when she was working that if she wasn't getting adequate raises or promotions within a certain number of years, she looked for a new job.

It's time to work somewhere new. My Mom actually had a rule when she was working that if she wasn't getting adequate raises or promotions within a certain number of years, she looked for a new job. My personal is three and I still apply here and there. It's been my policy since 2015 when I took that job for granted then spent six months unemployed. What amuses me is our director keeps telling us if we don't like things the way they are we can leave. That may have been a threat way back in the day because it was a point of pride for some people to not be a serial job hopper and instead be a "lifer". I am early millennial who graduated in 2006. Then had the bright idea to go into academic research. I eat job hopping for breakfast and know it's the only way I will ever increase my salary by a significant degree. Honestly when a company brags they have lots of lifers it is a red flag for me because it means I will likely never move up and things probably haven't evolved since whenever that person took the job. DH is finally stable and works for a company that has good insurance so I no longer need to have that be the main motivating factor for a job. So okay challenge accepted.

We are home from early morning errands and then afternoon school Christmas party. My out of office reply is on and I just shut down email and teams. Kiddo is already picking out crafts so we are about to heat up the glue gun.

We were off to the Old Town area in a neighboring community and it was fun - lots of little odd shops with gifts, antiques, food etc. The German store had a whole huge case of amber jewelry and it was very hard to resist but I did learn a lot by talking to the owner like different ways to detect fake amber or color-treated. There was a store selling bath products from neck rolls to bath bombs to an amazing selection of rubber duckies - duckies for kids, Christmas duckies, little duckies, big duckies, huge duckies, and adult duckies. My friend has a Jeep and there's this thing where you put little rubber ducks on a friend's Jeep. To cover the coming year, I got a red devil duck complete with horns and pitchfork, an orange glitter duck, a party duck with balloons, Mardi Gras beads and a party hat, and last but not least, a wonderful Donald Trump duck. My friend is a solid Trumper and I just had to. We tease each other all the time about our wildly different political perspectives, so this is perfect. The duck store lady said she can't keep that one in stock because people buy it if they love him, and they buy it if they hate him. It's one of her top sellers

Home, showered, and laying in my bed, which was dumb. I'm attending a viewing in an hour and then heading to a party. Logged onto work quick to submit my business expenses and now I am OOO until January 2!

Oh, and we had lunch at a local rather famous local cafe and the stuffed poblanos were so dang hot I drank one glass of wine, 2 glasses of water and then ate half DH's catfish because I was hungry. I've never had a poblano that hot! Dessert was incredible - buttermilk pecan pie with caramel drizzle. $9 a slice and totally worth it. I'm glad this place is about 50 miles from our house or bad things could happen.

I did cheer myself up a bit today and went to my favorite store in the OM. They have a ton of Christmas stuff out. Some of it was quite overpriced IMO. BUT I found a Sesame Street Christmas themed music box! It is Big Bird standing in the snow with a snowman. I have a huge soft spot for Big Bird. Even better that I didn't realize when I purchased it but the copy right on the back says 1982. So it's 41 years old. I found something older than I am. It's really sweet. I've seen Sesame Street ornaments I even have Oscar the grouch on my tree. I've never seen a music box.

Yep. This pretty much sums it up. Working in a lab gives you different skills from most jobs and those skills are often not translatable. And giramomma , if you are considering going back to school to retrain in a new field, sooner is better than later. In my experience, you cannot get your foot in the door in an entry position if you are over 50. When I tried to cross train into doing CAD for some of the local engineering firms, my age at the time worked against me…..and I was about 56. I had recruiters tell me that I interviewed well, and my 30+ years of lab experience demonstrated the soft skills needed (reliability, ability to work on a team, ability to write a coherent sentence, etc) but my age was the drawback. Unfortunately, if I dumbed down my resume, I would have had to eliminate those other skills I had acquired. If I added them all, they thought I wanted (deserved?) a more advanced position (which I didn’t). It’s not impossible though. I worked at the bench until just over a year ago and was surprised at how smoothly the transition to project manager went. No, it’s not impossible. However, I was in the process of doing this myself in order to get out of the lab. Before I got sick, I was looking at shifting more over to the biostats leg and was educating myself to go in that direction. I saw the writing on the wall years before, the big question was where was there a need for what I was capable of doing, and how do I get the experience and education to do so?

That looks pretty good actually. I don't read CG's posts but saw the mentions of brown bread and that weird canned thing chiver posted. When I hear brown bread, I think pumpernickel. One day I had bought some and then couldn't find it later when I was going to eat it. I started asking if anyone had seen it and the girls' dad said he threw it away because it was bad. He decided that since it waa brown it had to be rotten. I had juat bought it a few days before. Good thing bread is cheap or I would have been pissed. that weird canned thing is a very New England thing, TYVM. (I don't eat it, either....) Canned bread is blasphemy, unless you're on the International Space Station.

Ya gotta love closed captioning. There was an accident today and 'the 342 year old driver was treated for shock'.
Then my doorbell rang, so I picked up the intercom phone and said "Who is it?" He replied with "It's a Jew!" "Who?" "It's a Jew!", sounding annoyed. No wonder I always feel like I'm in the Twilight Zone.

My Sam's order is ready, but it's cold and rainy so I don't want to go get it. I'll get it tomorrow. Tonight I think I'll be a slug and watch Netflix. I went to Aldi today and washed all the laundry except my bedding which I'll wash tomorrow. That's enough for one day, right?

Yesterday was like 60* so kids were running around outside. I saw some coming around the back side of the building where I was with Jackson while he pottied. I called out and said "I have a big dog out here." The kids looked at Jackson like whoa! One of them asked "does your dog bite?" I told him no, he's just big. He said "he looks nice." The kids went back to running around. It was nice because since he's such a big dog, people tend to be afraid of him. If they only know how much of a pansy he really is.

heh. a friend of mine is a radiologist. he posts his work voice-to-text fails pretty regularly, and they are spectacular. I'll try to remember to share a few when he posts another. I'm in for the night, LD already went to bed. Punk is downstairs with me, being a super drunk toddler fighting sleep. lol... once I stop moving around, she'll be snoring. I did a bunch of kitchen prep/cleanup while they were having dinner, and still need to go reheat some leftovers for myself in a bit. while I'm sitting here, I made up a grocery list for tomorrow morning and clipped the digital coupons off the online flyer. next week's going to be tasty and full of veggies. asparagus and broccoli crowns are both super cheap with a 5lb limit on the sale price.

What's really funny is closed captioning on Chinese bootleg DVDs! My ex used to get a lot of them when he would go to Shanghai back in the 90s. Some were really good and some you could tell they recorded it in the theater, but the descriptions on the case and the closed captions were hilarious. I remember one movie, the guys name was Jack and they kept captioning him as Right Bauer. 🤣

If my farmer's market is actually open the Saturday before New Year's like they say, I'm going to look for Brussels sprouts for New Year's Day. It's not so much the price at the local stores that I have a problem with, it's the fact that those veggies are ancient and dried out at that price.

I'll use a bunch on NYE with my typical Korean spread. I'm going to blanch a lot of the asparagus and freeze it for the pups for later on. I'll be enjoying a lot of it myself though - between IP risotto and wrapping it in prosciutto to broil...yum!

On the off chance there is leftover broccoli or asparagus, we like to toss it into a stove-top frittata (Italian for use up leftovers). Cut any and all leftover veggies sort of small, nuke 1 minute in microwave or gently saute in skillet. If desired, add diced protein like chicken breast, ham, fajita beef, tofu. Top with appropriate amount of beaten eggs (we use 4 eggs for the 2 of us). Sprinkle with grated or shredded cheese (Cheddar, mozzarella, feta, whatever) if desired. Cover and turn down to really low - let cook until eggs are set as desired, we go for a slightly firm texture but not dried out. I tend to stir a bit of herb seasoning into my eggs, Italian, Greek or whatever moves me and works with the vegs and protein.

I think he's permanently traumatized. I didn't even get into the wonders of head cheese

I'll roast like I usually do, and then toss the roasted veg in a little bit of toasted sesame oil and top with sesame seeds. if I'm staying home on NYE (most of the time, it's amateur hour!) then I always make japchae with the vegetarian tweaks as I don't eat beef. I also generally make something 'bulgogi' or BBQ. this year, I'm thinking salmon bulgogi for a twist.

I'll probably do the salmon stovetop because of my broiler/oven setup. I love the seasonings on that recipe.

Yesterday I had a hilarious online conversation with younger friend about the joys of "congealed salads" including shredded carrots and diced celery in lime Jello, and chopped pecans and miniature marshmallows in cherry Jello. I think he's permanently traumatized. I didn't even get into the wonders of head cheese ohhhh......I just threw up a little in my mouth there. thanks for that. Yeah, my mother and DH's mother that that was good stuff. I didn't and still don't
