Jerseyguy fell yesterday and broke his hip. Probably surgery this afternoon or tomorrow morning. Very discouraging as his blood values are getting near normal and he was feeling stronger and happier. ODS spoke to ortho at the hospital and surgery won’t be too bad but he’ll be in rehab for quite a while DD had same break about 10 yrs ago . She had an accident mountain biking up in Vermont. She’s driving down and will be here through the weekend. Drinking coffee and had a cherry turnover for breakfast. Didn’t sleep well last night. I'm so sorry. Wishing speedy recovery for jerseyguy. Also, I like to point out that you have had more than your share of health problems in 2023 so I propose that you have none of that s**t in 2024.

and this is where my brain went first - linkThat's where mine was too. That's what I assumed CG meant because she said she was serving baked beans and I read that the B&M brown bread is a traditional accompaniment for them

jerseygirl You and Jerseyguy have had much more than your share of health problems this year - I hope his surgery goes well and the rehab experience is good so he can be back on his feet soon

100% this. You guys are due for a break. (That didn't sound right but I meant a break from all the medical stuff).

I did manage to move the elf. The missy is frustrated as she can't find it. He's in her backpack. Which she has walked past now, like 5 times. Dammit. Another Christmas task I haven’t picked up

Grandma's Medicaid application is in. That's one thing off my plate. Now we wait. This is major. Fingers crossed it all goes through.

I take gabapentin. It works on my pain, but makes me lose my balance. I was coming home from swimming with a very heavy backpack and did a faceplant on the street. (physics) Five people called the police. An officer helped me up, took my arm and asked me to sit in the cruiser to warm up. "I'm not sitting anywhere! My computer guy is coming!" Madame, we're calling the paramedics'. " I don't need the paramedics! (It's just a flesh wound.) Everything above the neck bleeds profusely. Next thing you know, the paramedics come, and are hovering around me. "you need to go to the hospital You may have a concussion." 'From landing on my FACE? I didn't hit my head!" "You need to go to the hospital! "I need to go home!" "Can you just lie down in the ambulance so we can take your blood pressure?' I wasn't born yesterday. They're taking me away, where a well-meaning social worker will look for a bed in a nursing home, where I'll shuffle around with a walker in a gown and slippers, while a nice volunteer plays "She'll be comin round the mountain" during recreation hour. No, thank you. "I'm signing out against medical advice! I know my rights!' They were pissed, and handed me the paperwork. The cop asked me for Simon's number." "You can't spend the night alone, as you may have a concussion". They let me go. As soon as I came home, I called Simon. "The cops will call you. Agree to everything, but don't come. I'm fine." I AM fine but my face looks like it was run over by a snowplow. I hope I heal by Christmas, but I don't think so. I am so sorry to hear about this! PLEASE take care of yourself. ETA: And to jerseygirl and toomuchreality as well.

today's becoming more expensive. HVAC service is typically ~$200. Stanley Steemer was just shy of $300. and the well guy finally got back to me about a PM on my well pump. he'll be here before noon. no idea what that's going to cost for today, as to whether he will be equipped to deal with the corroded fittings today or if he has to come back. oy.
ETA: woof. ~$600 to replace the corroded fittings. and I just caught myself, I almost turned on the kitchen faucet to wash my hands. oops. that could have been a mess.

I feel like total poop. DD2 asked me if I want her to buy some gifts for her daugters. I said yes. Please. I was I the hospital, at Christmas time, when I got my tonsils out, as a kid. I won't be surprised if I end up in the hospital, soon. Not my Christmas wish. I hope not. I haven't read any other pages. Thinking of you all. If you are still feeling that bad, please call your doctor. Just want you to feel better.

That's what I assumed CG meant because she said she was serving baked beans and I read that the B&M brown bread is a traditional accompaniment for them Mine didn’t, only because I have had this bread a long time ago from a German friend. It’s soooo good, and when she went home she used to bring me back a loaf. I know a place in town that makes it…….one a Russian/East European store, but I don’t get over there frequently, and parking is a nightmare there. My Czech neighbor goes there regularly, 8 should ask her to grab me a loaf sometime.

I’m sorry, jerseygirl. Hip fractures are not uncommon in the elderly, and harder to heal from. You guys can’t seem to catch a break.

That sounds wonderful - we only use whole grain breads. When I googled "brown bread" this is what I got bmbeans.com/product/brown-bread-plain/ which to me feels more like a dessert than bread and this is where my brain went first - linkI have never seen such a thing. But I also never knew you could buy bacon in a can until I saw it recently on Guy's Grocery Games.

Last night was a SLAP Christmas party, but we separated out, women in one direction and men in the other. The guys did a scotch tasting, and TD took the bottle of ‘Salami in a Peated Overcoat’ I bought for him at our casked scotch tasting in Edinburgh. I actually liked this one, so hope they didn’t kill the bottle. Since it was a single cask bottling, once it is gone, it’s no more. Since it was bought from a private club, even if we went back to Edinburgh, I doubt we could get another tasting of their current offerings.
This morning we are driving down to Seattle to pick up our wine and have lunch. We need to get back by SLAP at 4:30, so hopefully traffic going north isn5 a nightmare. It’s raining, so that does increase the risk.

Note to self - no more mid day flights out of Logan. no, the earlier the better. are you still getting out today? I am. The last 10 miles to get the airport was stop and go and the security line was completely full. Glad I made the executive decision to not login to work this morning and had to the airport early. Well, the hotel in the shady area made that decision easy. Boarding should start in about 15 minutes.

I'm tired tonight.
I put up 2 50 ft strings of lights on the fence and one of the lights on the house that swirls and makes different colors. So of course, half of one string didn't work, grrrr. I need to take it down, return, and get a new one but need to drag the ladder and things out again, maybe Saturday.
I than cut down some shrubs and loaded it in the yard waste container. I also cut off all the dead flowers in one bed. I cleaned up most of it but pooped out. I have a couple more to clean. The lawn that was dead this summer is now green and high, it needs cut but hoping to get a day or two where it drys out some.
I received my 2 packs of Xmas decorations that I mailed before I left. This was after I went ahead and used my lavender ones. But I added some special ones and gold butterflies that came and my tree skirt so my tree is done. Hubs sent me a couple of gifts for Xmas and they found sons so I need to wrap those. And of course now DD's Christmas boots came too late to use. They are red with white fur.
We went to Sonic and bought dinner when I went to get the extension cord and filled my car with gas. Fell asleep for awhile in my recliner so took a shower. May go to bed shortly.
Talked with son today, I wasn't happy last night when I talked to him and thought about just going home. But if I do that will likely never see little guy again and I can't do that. Haven't heard from DIL today. I'm tired of hearing all her sillieness. You go shopping and everything I see I like, like decorations or wrapping paper she thinks looks cheap or ugly. I don't say anything but just go back again and buy what I want when I am alone. Just hate making 2 trips, but the easiest way to handle it. I asked what she wanted for Xmas and its a pair of earrings for $200 bucks that will match a ring she has, I ordered them and wouldn't you know they won't come until Dec 27th, sigh. Now I suppose I will have to get something else for her to open with our gifts, not good to be the only one getting nothing. I had gotten son the weather station and a box of mixed nuts. We scaled back this year.
I'm just aggravated I bought all the stuff she said he could eat the day before than it was completely changed she does that kind of stuff all the time. She flips all the time, I don't know how son stands it. Hubs said a long time ago she is dingy, I just keep trying to get along but little guys well being is worrying me. Today I just did not want to deal with any of it. I will call tomorrow and see if we are still going to the ballet. I doubt grandson gets to come this weekend. I told son it was more than cruel doing this stuff at Xmas with all the holiday foods she likely won't let him eat. I was going to ask what he can have, but son said just ordinary food. So I will cook my regular dinner and I wonder what he will be able to eat. I will have a veggie plate with it, but he needs good stick to his ribs foods. He is already skinny.
I have a headache and my hip is hurting.
Its nice to look out the window and see lights all down the road, my fence was one of the empty spaces on this side of the road. There is some decorating out here but none of the fences in this community on the road have decorations, perhaps those folks aren't able to do it
Forgot to post last night.
I will make a phone call, see how that goes. I'm not discussing it, but I know tonight he will be begging to stay. I have good foods for him and us, but no russian stuff. I am not to give him luncheon meats but she feeds him russian bologna, does it make any sense? I told son just seems to be what I feed him. Well I'm getting off that, I will be ok. I was going to go home but no way.

Got the cash gifts stuffed into Christmas cards and delivered, and the other Christmas cards mailed. I just picked up a gift card to my nail salon for the woman next door. We need to swing by our beloved taqueria and drop off cash gifts for all the workers' stockings - 26 of them this year.
DH is up for dinner tonight and he's baking steelhead trout and steaming cauliflower.

I'm still writing Christmas cards today, but my handwriting isn't looking so good right now, so I might take a break. It's our own fault, I suppose, for sending out so many, but our friends & family are so spread out that this seems to be the best way to keep track of everyone.

I probably missed a lot I have been so busy this last week.
Weltz, Sorry to hear you fell. Jersey Girl, sorry to hear Jersey Guy broke his hip, Too Much Reality, hope you get well soon and don't land in the hospital. Speedy healing to all of you.
I met my brother at Mom's on my lunch hour and we told her it is time for her to quit driving. She fought us a bit, kept telling us she only drives in the neighborhood and needs her car to get to church and the grocery store. DB was very firm that it was no longer safe for her to drive due to her memory issues. She told us fine, but the car can stay in the garage and we cant have it. She actually indicated that it was her way of getting back at us for not letting her drive. DB told her that was fine, we all have cars and we don't need hers, we just need her safe and healthy as long as possible. Car will not start, he thinks it is probably the battery, and he took both sets of keys last week. I take her to church every Saturday and I am now going to take a long lunch on Wednesdays to take her to church for her prayer hour. It will probably make my lunch an hour and a half to two hours, but my work won't make a big deal. DB will back me up on the Wednesday afternoon thing. I wonder if my Mom will call my Sister and complain. DS knows we were going to talk to her. DB really wants her in an assisted living type facility. We are not going to push on that yet, but his wife my DS was on me about my Mom not being safe alone at home this am.
I still have open ends that I need to get done for the accounting firm. I came in late yesterday, 11:30 am, then left her about 9:15 pm. My tree is not up yet. Christmas shopping is not done, although I don't have a lot of people to buy for.

Brown bread is nothing more than wheat bread. When I grind wheat at home, I bake brown or whole wheat bread.

Busy morning at work. Lot of good movement on projects, but busy nonetheless.
Made it to the UPS Store and two grocery stores. Finished wrapping all the Santa presents. Tomorrow need to go to one grocery store and a trip to the big box store. Will do that first thing in the AM. Class party at school with Kiddo at noon.
Have two small gifts for Kiddo arriving Monday. Not Santa gifts and they are small so I can find time to wrap them even with her home from school. One gift for my sibling arriving Monday as well. I have two little sewing crafts I'd like to finish as gifts. Sunday afternoon with Santa hosted by my workplace so we will take Kiddo to that.
Otherwise, we should be set in terms of errands. Anything we do next week will be fun things that we pick and choose at our leisure. Along with at home holiday crafts and baking. Feeling pretty good about the way things are shaping up!

Dammit. Another Christmas task I haven’t picked up Our elf is random and/or lazy. He's only been cheeky twice this week, so far. I told Kiddo's elves are not allowed inside houses. Only Santa is. They do the elf thing at school. Which is fine because elves are allowed to go to school and learn just like kids. Also means I don't have to elf any of my shelfs at home! It may be lazy, but I prefer to call it very creative thinking
