My mom always kept food around, maybe she had the same issues growing up. And as those of you know I am stocked up too.
Added to my stash this week. I have 5 containers of detergent pods, 5 d/w pods, couple of cases of TP or more, also toweling paper, napkins, hygiene products. All kinds of pasta, meats, freezers full, veggies, breads, french fries, shrimp, fish, broth. 25 pounds of rice, 50 to 75 pounds of wheat, 20 pounds of popcorn, 50 pounds of sugar, cereal for hubs and I. Steel cut oats, bags of flour in the freezer, extra yeast, baking powders, jugs of vinegar, gallons of bleach. I keep lots of items on hand to cook and make casseroles and other dishes. Lots of purchased canned goods and home canned goods on hand too. And right now with prices rising, I have added more again. And right now as much fresh produce and veggies as I think we can use. Maybe one day this will stop and I will feel comfortable, but they are talking about shortages of food stuffs all over.
I like to be able to cook and not be out of some ingredient.
Thursday our first sweet corn is coming off in the county so we are going to have our first of the year. Our neighbor down the road said he is getting it in Thursday from south county, his isn't ready yet. They have a veggy stand at their home now, about 5 miles away so we will get melons, corn, and lots of other fresh items from them. They grow their own. They had green beans last year and couldn't keep up with the demand. Hope they do this year.

I made the mistake of mentioning something about the Jan 6th commission and it set DH off because he's so angry that no one is being arraigned, tried, convicted and jailed. I won't make that mistake again but it's hard when that's all that's on the TV in our house 24/7. We can't have a conversation about anything now. I miss a partner in life.

I'm going to take a break for a bit. Nothing anyone has said, I just need a break to wrap my head around some stuff and figure out the way forward. Hugs to all. My problems are nothing compared to yours

We will be one of those couples with nothing to talk about after the kids leave the house because our political beliefs are so different, as are our hobbies. I basically just refuse to enter into any conversation revolving around politics.

We’re watching only a Japanese or an Israeli news programs. Much calmer and less bias we think I watch BBC and Al-Jazeera, although not so much since covid and lockdown. I think I need to start back up again. hearing about how the world sees our dysfunction has been a stalwart in my adult life with my travels. I need that sanity check again.

I basically just refuse to enter into any conversation revolving around politics. Yep. I just told DH think real careful about his next words when he said he failed to see how RvW being repealed puts me into second class status as a woman. Course you don't it's not like they are telling you what to do with your penis despite me needing it to get pregnant. Your privacy and your body autonomy is never going to come under threat. And his response was not everything is about privilege. Yes it is! You can claim that because you have it all! You don't need to fight for Jack shit. We may end up divorced if the climate keeps getting more polarized. I'm finding out he's way more conservative than I thought. Meanwhile I'm becoming increasingly more liberal. And I swear to God if he proudly stands there and says all news is biased he prefers to do his own research I will strangle him. Everything is me trying to battle him and shame him.The conversation always comes back to.how as a man .I am making him feel bad, makinghimfeel guilty and focusingthe conversationback on his experienceof the world.. We will be able to talk about weather when the kids are gone.. That's about it.

Mister decided he wanted to go ahead and put the last camera up. As tired as I am, I agreed just so we could be done with it all. He’d saved the trickiest one for last. So I had to put on my war gear (gardening boots) to enter and stand in the wild kingdom (our backyard) to be his assistant.
It didn’t take him long, thank goodness. The whole time, I was keeping one on Mister on the ladder and the other eye on a rather large hole less than a foot away from me that who knows what had dug in the ground. I didn’t mention the hole while Mister was on the ladder because I didn’t want to freak him out and make him fall. But I certainly pointed it out when he was done and came down the ladder.
Anyway, all the cameras are up now and everything is finally working properly. Thank goodness, because he and I both were about sick of fooling with them and ready to just return all that shit and get his money back.
I know they won’t stop stupid people from doing stupid shit, but I do feel a little better having them and the motion detector lights on the back of the house now.
And as far as the quote we got from that guy for $4k for 4 cameras, we have 5 cameras for less than $1k and we do not have to pay for a subscription for them to record. Systems like Ring, it’s my understanding that if you don’t pay for a subscription (which I also understand is fairly cheap for Ring), you can only get a live feed, no recording. Of course it helps that Mister installed them himself, so we didn’t have to pay for labor. Anyway, I am DONE for the day, for real this time.

I got the chest freezer defrosted and threw away at least 60 pounds of meat which was a little sickening, but it's super old. Well, it's not technically thrown out yet, it's bagged up in the freezer and I'm going to get up when DS does at 5am to beat the garbage man. I don't want to have it outside overnight when it's so hot. I really hope we don't miss him though or I will have a disgusting smelly mess when I get home!

I thought of you, countrygirl2, because the church garden is producing so much squash (Yellow, zucchini, and spaghetti) that we are all getting a little tired of it. We wanted to give a lot of this away, but we don't really have an outlet. It isn't enough for a good bank, and our shut-ins are tired of it, too. I brought home a huge zucchini to roast. I refused another spaghetti squash just because I ate it the last two days. I guess I need to look up now to freeze some of it!

I know nothing about feeding livestock/barn animals like you have, but can you use any of it for them? I definitely use some older frozen stuffs for my dogs, b/c it's still okay being frozen, but the texture might be off-putting to me or other people. my dogs don't care about texture while they scarf down the bowl.

Gwen can attest to the fact chicken's like nuggets. She dropped one and they fought over it.Then followed her around for more.😳

I refused another spaghetti squash just because I ate it the last two days. I guess I need to look up now to freeze some of it! slice it the long way - not the spaghetti squash - then bread and fry like eggplant or chicken cutlet. it's fantastic, and probably outside your normal routine (you don't post about much Italian stuff). sometimes I'll bake that with red sauce and cheese, other times I just snack on it cold. for the spaghetti squash, this is my go-to link this is what I was making the night I went to the ER in a snowstorm, b/c my hand was still numb at dinner and I wanted a sanity check. I'll pass on repeating the whole saga here, but this recipe is solid and is one I share often. it's super versatile, and freezes well after cooking. I always add spinach and sliced mushrooms to the mixing bowl without sauteeing, to keep them from disintegrating on baking. just consider how hearty your mix-ins are, and whether they can handle both sauteeing and baking. and, add all of the cheese. because cheese is important.

CG, my MIL was Eastern European, Polish. And she never thought anyone ate enough! Thinking it’s from the Wars that devastated their countries and scarcity of food. When we went to weddings, First Communions etc the amount of food at the restaurant was enormous. And the ladies still all brought desserts in addition Towards the end of the event I always felt The Warsaw bakery opened up How nice your darling little guy is with you! Enjoy!! Both my parents lived through the Holodomor in Ukraine. Now, there's no such thing as 'too much food'. When they died, my sister and I were shocked at the amount of food squirreled away in their attic. It was 'just in case' food in the event of another famine. NIL's grandparents went through the Holdomor in Ukraine. Grandma hoards food like that and that was one of the things stressing her about leaving her home. All the food she had hidden away. There may be food shortages now. Nobody knows.

I thought about just unpackaging it all and leaving it out in the woods for coyotes and other critters, but it's so hot lately. It would be pretty rotten and stinky fast if they didn't get it right away. Not that that would bother them.

Last night, I came out of the bathroom to find the freezer door on my refrigerator wide open and I could not figure out why. That had never happened before.
I went to see the grumpy Toddler this afternoon. When I came in the house, Amelia was on top of the refrigerator. I went to the bathroom. I heard a thump when she got off the fridge. I come out and the freezer door is wide open.
Any suggestions on how I can make sure this stays closed while I am gone for a week? Are there locks I can buy.
I can't stop her from getting up there. For whatever reason, this is a new habit and I don't think I can break it in a week. I have food in there that I don't want to spoil.
Thanks for any advice.

I have another question. My 85 year old former boss put his house on the market. I looked at the photos on Zillow.
He told me yesterday that he has only had 4 showings in a week and no offers.
How do I tell him he needs to get the "old people" furniture out of there and either stage it or leave it empty. I don't know which they do where he is. I would think a house going for that would be staged.
Younger people are not impressed by 3 bedrooms with beautiful handmade quilts on the beds and matching wall quilts.
I don't know how to tell him it's time to get that furniture out of there.

I don't know how to tell him it's time to get that furniture out of there. I'm cheap and would tape the freezer shut for your trip. You could also try putting upside down contact paper on the top of the fridge so it's sticky. She'll probably decide not to go up there. Where is your bosses house? If it's colorado the decor won't matter. If he's not getting showings it's prices too high. My sil is a realtor and she's really big on everything being updated and perfect when listed. I'll agree that she has a point that with prices so high, a lot of buyers don't have enough leftover after closing to do updates themselves. But still dated kitchens and baths will sell, and if it's just the furniture that is dated I don't think it will impact much.

Somehow he can say what I'm thinking in a way that really pisses me off. He's too extreme and all doom and gloom. And yet the day that Roe was overturned he didn't understand why I was crying.

We went to see Jurassic World Dominion with DS, DD, and DD’s Boyfriend. It was a late Father’s Day gift for DH. I hadn’t been to a movie in about 10 years.
It was very good.
I also want to see the new Top Gun Movie and the Elvis one. Tuesdays are. $5 and Thurs $7.50, but we couldn’t make those days work.
