Bought the Chuck E Cheese gift cards for niece and nephew last night after taking to sister. Cyber Monday deal was a $15 card for each $50 card purchase, today it is a $10 card. So that is done.
Need a couple of gift cards for MIL & FIL and a few more stocking stuffers for my kids and I am done. My mom and dad will get cash.

Requested two discounts on previous purchases today. one was $13.25 and the other was $55 or so. DH and I have done ok, but why did I think when I was in my 40's that maybe I could maybe stop working, and here I am on the cusp of 60 still working, and feeling like I need to work as long as possible. I occurred to me over the weekend that if politicians are going to start telling people that working until 68 or 70 is realistic, they will start budgeting for retirement like they have until 68-70 to save up the $$ they will need, and that they will budget as if they need less $$ for retirement. It is a disaster waiting to happen. I started saving in a 401K at 20 and had profit sharing at that job. I stupidly left just before I vested. Then I cashed out my 401K balance to buy a house. The next Job I got I started saving for retirement again...and I still feel like I just don't have enough. This am we saw on the news about some person that won the Michigan Lottery $25,000 for life. DH wasn't getting it. I told him it is not $25,000 it is $25,000 a year for life. That would make me feel like I could retire with no worries. I am not one for playing the lottery though, so it is very, very unlikely anything like that is in my future.
I talked to my brother yesterday and told him I think we should talk to Mom about quitting driving again. He of course would like to put Mom in an assisted living type place right away. I just am not ready to go that far yet. Still feel like I should quit working and have my mom come live with us. DH is on board to have her live with us, but I just don't think he realistically understands what that would involve. We had friends taking care of their mom with Demetia, at home and they never left her alone. When we saw them at friend's parties they never came together, as someone always stayed home with the mom. Mom could live another 5 or more years. I feel a lot of quilt b/c my Mom cared for my bedridden father at home, right up until the end of his life. It is very hard to think about doing less for her. This might just about cover your health insurance until retirement. After Medicare, then you might get about half that. Healthcare costs really are an eye opening experience. That's one of the few advantages of NOT being high income. The most expensive ACA plan offered in my area at 50K/year income is $532/month. That's for a $1000 deductible $7500 max OOP PPO plan offered by Blue Cross Blue Shield. There are many lower cost options. I'd probably go with the HSA version of the same plan with a $3200 deductible for $383/month if I was choosing today (and didn't have a kid to cover too).

Some investment company out of WI offered me 60K cash for my back 10 acres. Yeah, no. If it wasn't BEHIND my current property there's a possibility I would consider countering with a minimum of 100K, but the only way to access that land is through my yard so it would have to come with an easement. I'm also not really all that interested in selling. I'd rather let my kids have it to build on if they want to someday.

My office is covered in paper right now, but its getting more and more organized. I don't know what happened with the touchup this time but my hair is not soft and pretty like normal. I need to ask the beautician if she used something different on it. I go there because I like the way it comes out, shiny and easy to manage. Not so much right now, who knows why. My sweet kitty left my paper box on my desk and is over here lying beside me. Dinner is done, I need to put leftovers away and load the d/w. We had spinach tortelini's with garlic basil spaghetti sauce. We are also eating our pantry down and the one freezer so we are doing pretty good. I am out of ground round. I opened a package that said ground bacon?? I must have picked it up at Odon as ground beef. Never heard of it before. So hubs looked it up and says you can use it in a lot of dishes. Seem's kind of bad for cholesterol though. I will try some it with something. We thought about frying and using for toppings but I can't see a way to thoroughly soak the grease off it. I'm going to look up some suggestions for its use.Might as well take a shower, fix my hair and than get back to work. Want to finish as much as I can of this stuff tonight. I need to get it done as I need to do cleaning before I leave. I want to leave things clean for hubs. He said he is doing a little better, that he thinks the exercises are starting to help. We don't think he will ever be back like he was, but think it can get better. It may just be too early for him to try and travel, He said don't worry about it, for DD and I to go whether he can this time or not. He will sees the kids when he takes the boat up in about April. But every year you miss you can never get back. Use it as a base for soups. I have used bacon grease for potato leek soup, bean and more recently for chowder when I couldn't find a chunk of guanciale or salt pork. After you render the fat out of it, use the remains as a crumbled top for the soup. It probably would be good made into a carbonara too. Seven layer salad, cheese soup, scalloped potatoes, quiche, biscuits and gravy, pasta bake, or loaded baked potatoes. I could go on and on, I have an ongoing affair with bacon!

Your boss needs none of that. At best, it will irritate her to have to read an essay about your personal life to find out when you’ll be out of work. At worst, it gives her unnecessary ammo to use against you later. “Dear boss—I’m not feeling well and unfortunately won’t be in today. Apologies for any inconvenience this might cause. I’ll keep you posted.” I deeply appreciate that. My new key phrase for these times of very little brain is, "What is the least I could do?"

These finally came inside last night, under less than ideal circumstances, despite what I have been saying for weeks now. I won’t even get into all of that, I am just going to hope for the best now that they are inside. They are Meyer lemon trees. The bigger one, this will be its 3rd winter with us, and so far, not 1 lemon. It blooms, like it is starting to do now, but no viable lemons so far. It didn’t bloom at all this summer, but then it barely survived this past winter, and I actually thought it was dead, dead, for real, which is why I have the smaller one lol. They are already dropping leaves, and at this point, I have more potential flowers on both plants, than leaves. They are in my “yoga” room, and between the dropped leaves and dropped flowers, they will make a big mess, going by the past winters with the bigger one. But the flowers, if they manage to stay on the plants, smell SO good, and I am looking forward to that scent in that room, even if I still don’t get any lemons. I didn’t try very hard to find the Gardening thread, so y’all got stuck with this post. PS: If any of you have any helpful hints or tricks to help me help them, please share. Idk what the heck I am doing, I’ve read about caring for them, but I’m still mostly just winging it. I have a Meyer lemon in the ground in AZ. They need fertilizer to bear fruit. I believe the standard is to fertilize four times per year. Have you increased the size of the pot it sits in? The root ball may need more soil. Lemon trees like to be watered once a week or so and then dry out in between. Make sure it is not by a heat vent this winter, that might dry out the leaves and blooms leaving you with no fruit. You are right, the blooms smell amazing!

The years 60-65 are ridiculously expensive on the ACA and age is the one place where they can make up the cost. 60 seems to be the critical age. For us, at 63/64 the absolute cheapest ACA plan was $$1500/mo each right before we went on the cruise. Thats with no subsidies. This was the time before our healthcare policy we bought for overseas kicked in, and TD turned 65 on the cruise, so he was looking to bridge that time. His contract employer provided health insurance where they’d cover half of the employer’s $1300 policy (price also adjusted for age) and nothing for the spouse. In the past, I had been using his employer’s insurance as secondary for my Medicare as a Medigap policy if you are under 65 is about 3-4x higher than being 65. Also, much of this is location dependent. If we lived in Seattle….100 miles down the road and a few counties away, our choices would be much different (better) than they are in Whatcom or Skagit County.

I'm headed out to jury duty. You can't take coffee in with you. I'm not sure I'm going to make it.

I am SO FREAKING TIRED of coughing constantly! It has been going on for 2 weeks. I had a cold, when it started. I plan on calling the clinic, where my PCP works at 8am, to see if I can get in to see someone tomorrow, as a 'sick, walk in' appt. I'm not thrilled to see a different doctor, because they always ask a bunch of questions, that don't pertain to the reason I'm there. And I keep thinking that they're not going to give me anything, or do anything for me. Except tell me to drink lots of fluids and get some rest. But desperation is setting in. Sometimes I get coughing so much, I can't even get a grasp of air. And tonight I was coughing so hard, I threw up. Yuck. Neither Coricidin HBP, or Mucinex is helping. I'm over it. I just want it . HAPPY TUESDAY! Might you have whooping cough? Coughing so much you vomit happens with that

I changed my age from 54 to 64 and the premium jumped, but so did the tax credits, so it was only $100/month more. If I reduce income to 40K/year instead of 50K the premium is $524/month. At 40K income there are a lot of them in the $200-$400/month range if you're willing do do HMO or EPO. They actually go down to as low as $45/month, but I wouldn't do anything less than a Silver plan. MN might have better options than other states though.

I am almost certain it is Flu but will ask for tests on Covid and RSV. My free Covid tests from the federal government will arrive in a couple days. Funny thing, had flu shots been on my radar, it turns out my county did a couple clinics in the first half of November.

I just want it to stop. HAPPY TUESDAY! This was me 2 weeks ago. I couldn't stop coughing, couldn't breathe, and threw up. I finally went to the pharmacy and asked for help picking an OTC cough suppressant that wouldn't be a problem with my high blood pressure. After double-checking, the pharmacy angel recommended original Delsym which did the trick. It's a liquid and 1 dose lasts 12 hours.

What I said in the last paragraph. I know that there are better choices 100 miles from me in the same state, so it’s not unsurprising to see differences between states. With our issues, I wouldn’t touch an HMO with a 50’ pole.

There are prescription tussin pearls you can get that did seem to help.

On day 2 of my bone broth and water fast. Much more difficult today. Debating adding black coffee. Not a big coffee drinker, but when I do have it it usually helps with appetite suppression. Trying to recover from so much food pie over the long weekend.

This is cool. Several places I did not place orders with but was considering doing so on Friday or Monday have continued their discounts for another 2 days. This pleases me.

I'm headed out to jury duty. You can't take coffee in with you. I'm not sure I'm going to make it. How do you do jury duty without coffee? Just make sure you take something to amuse yourself with. It’s been a long time since I was snagged for jury duty.

Just had the lovely realization that while now finally DH has a stable job that has good benefits and my kids are old enough to stay home sick by themselves I have to consider my freaking duties towards my grandmother when looking at other jobs. I have to have one that is flexible enough I can leave at the drop of a hat or have to spend time on conference calls with a bunch of bean counters. So the job I was pondering going for is a no go because it requires 50% travel. I think I am underqualified for it but the guy hiring is gracious enough to allow me to pick his brain today about it and even if I am not qualified what can I do to make myself more attractive to his department. He's spent time in QA and regulatory too so I want to pick his brain about maybe those are angles I haven't considered with my skill set. This is all one of those things that I couldn't have predicted when I was younger. Never in a million years did I expect elder care for my GRANDMOTHER was going to interfere with my career. Parents maybe but given they are pretty young I figured I'd be far more established than I am now by the time they need it. Ha. Maybe I am doomed to be nothing more than a technician.

I thought maybe my cough had taken a turn and I was getting better, when my alarm went off this morning. No such luck. I missed any appointments today, so I'll try again, tomorrow morning. I've been awake all night, coughing, so I'm tired. Going to try and get some sleep today.

They aren’t near a heat vent. I’ve read that they can take a few years to produce lemons, so I will just be patient and enjoy the blooms.

TY. This will be today's shopping list.

Dammit. DS’ ADHD meds are OOS at the local pharmacy, called and struck out on a couple of other fronts. We have some extra supply but making plans to trial and figure out dosing schedules for non extended release formulations-have some on hand for booster purposes, musing whether to request the psychiatrist to prescribe more.

Got DD to the chiropractor so she is happy. She said it really helps. Talked to son a bit and they are trying little guy in soccer. Maybe something like that he can do on his own. He tried baseball and son said he had to watch him swinging a bat around and him not paying attention to others doing the same. We will see how this turns out. He needs to do something to burn energy that's for sure.
I suggested they come here as son is off a month but he said little guy is in school and in soccer now so hard to leave. I guess hubs will be alone for Xmas, he doesn't care but I do a lot more than he does.
I want to get him front seatcovers for his 2021 truck. He has caught something he wears on the front seat and has torn it on the side and looks awful plus its going to tear more. So just the front 2 are needed and the passenger just so they match.

I love the smell of citrus blossoms! We had a Meyer lemon in our yard in California and I was so confused about what it was at first…not quite a lemon but too sour to be an orange. It produced a lot of fruit and we weren’t sure what to do with all the lemons-only so much lemonade you can drink. Still miss the easy access though.

My first experience with Meyer lemons was when I saw bags of them on sale at Costco. TD picked up a bag. I made lemon curd, multiple batches. It was sooooooo good! We just ate it like pudding!

My new key phrase for these times of very little brain is, "What is the least I could do?" FWIW, boss and I have already spoke on the phone and things are worked out. I will be at work tomorrow and I will be cough suppressant shopping after lunch.

We have gotten a few new producers that are very green. I feel like I need to put together a trucking 101 class. Luckily my main producer is mentoring them. I'm teaching them how to do what I say and ask me before anyone goes making decisions. Fun stuff.

This is cool. Several places I did not place orders with but was considering doing so on Friday or Monday have continued their discounts for another 2 days. This pleases me. I was going to order a new Bandolier case for the new I-Phone 15 pro max that is supposed to be delivered to DH's office today, but I looked at the cost and wondered what Amazon had available b/c they don't have the exact case I want for my new phone. Ordered one from Amazon for about 1/2 the cost. That one is not exactly what I want either, but I just want it for Dog walking anyways. I need to exchange the Ruggable Rug I bought. Pad too thick/Rug is not the right size. Idk how much it will cost to send it back. Waiting to hear back. Not really sure what I want. DH and I shopped for ourselves. Bought DD business clothing for her 6 weeks of training. DS's girlfriend a floor cleaner, IDK what to buy DS. He will be hard to buy for. Also don't know what to buy my Mom as moving her to assisted living may be in the near future. I am trying not to buy too much for myself-I already have too much clutter. I did amazon order some different outlet plates for the smart switches I bought on prime day. DH is not real much on board, but he installed the one in the laundry room. I allowed Geofencing so it will turn the light on when I get home. Otherwise, you can control it with Alexa or you can schedule it in the Kasa app. DH needs to re-install the heat vent and air return covers in DD's room. She is home on Saturday, so he has to do it one morning or evening this week. They have been missing since DH painted and replaced the flooring earlier this year. He will probably finish the room about the time she moves out. But all is good, we have plans for a guest room and an office on the first floor.

I really hope it helps! High blood pressure is something, I also deal with. So good to know.
