I've been looking for half or quarter pies the past week or so, for egg custard. I don't crave sweet very often, but that just tastes like the holidays for me. I haven't seen custard pies at all, nevermind partial ones. I might have to duck in to the pricey grocery store down near M's house. they have always had custard in all the locations I've ever shopped in. I love custard! The recipe in my chef in a box book is too sweet so I cut it to 60 g of sugar in 500 g of milk, down from 100 g sugar. I should go make that. Back in CA our local Chinese buffets had mini custard tarts, or do you have a Portuguese bakery nearby per chance? Have you tried to bake a clafoutis? It's a custard pie with cherries.

Chatting with Hulu to cancel. I canceled online, but it shows a cancelation date in March of next year. I signed up last November, trying to find the disconnect. Are you paid up ahead of time? I sign up for promo trials all the time, then cancel the same day (so I don't forget), but it keeps going until it would have run out.
That is what they say it is. I thought it was only 12 months, and the account info on the site makes zero sense. When I logged in it said next payment was $7.99 on 11/24 2023, but rep says I am paid up until March. I will be watching my Paypal account.

I did recently receive a new Paypal card though, so the expiration date will be different. I will look harder this weekend.

DH and I had a surprising civil conversation this morning in which he shared the results of his blood work and urinalysis. This has been a hot-button conversation in past years, so I was pleasantly surprised. All results were within normal bounds except for a couple which were out-of-bounds last year too, but his doc signed off on the results last year as "okay, no problem". Under the new ownership, the results are broken down into many more sub-categories so I'll have to study up when I get my results next year. They have also startedr screening everyone for Hep A and B as part of a national study. I don't care what they screen for as long as I don't have to have more than one stick Did you sign an informed consent about this? You should care that they are testing you for these things without permission. This was DH's blood work so I don't know. He said the doctor said they were screening all seniors as participants in a nationwide study and because there was an uptick in Hep B cases in seniors. I think the unusually large and ethnically diverse patient base makes this clinic attractive for research studies.

JG, I think its all what you like. I prefer cookies over cake and definitely over pie. I grew up with homemade pumpkin pie, homemade cakes and homemade cookies. I was the baker of the latter once I hit a certain age. I also did baking on request for mom and dad while I lived at home. Wish I could come to your house, but we would need to modify my chicken pot pie. I love pot pie. Banquet pot pies for dinner was one of our special dinners. Not so odd about eating the crust on any pot pie. Usually, it has all the nice chicken sauce soaked into it. FWIW, I ended up buying an Amy's vegan pot pie for my TG dinner. Stick it in the oven, set the timer, and low stress meal.

DH claims he's fluffy bc of my baking. I definitely prefer baking. The baking and resulting dishes also don't have to be done every single day.

I don't think I've ever eaten a chicken pot pie, but I bet a home made one would taste good.
Tonight we are having tenderettes, small pieces of tenderized pork loin, with mac and cheese. And I will find a veggy. I like frozen beans with a bit of butter and almonds, not hubs and DD. They do like our fresh frozen corn though, but not store bought, odd folks, all of us. Still trying to use up food from the freezers. Since we eat so much less, going to take us a long time, but we will get there.

I was thinking about odds and ends stuff for Thanksgiving and getting my tools together. My turkey baster and meat thermometer so not appear to have made it over with the move. Luckily Amazon can have new ones here tomorrow.

Just learned that you can doordash walgreens. Thought it was just for food. Reconciling bank accounts and DD15s had a doordash walgreens charge showing from San Fran that I thought was fraud. Texted her to check and she doordashed midol, her fav type of pads, snickers and a coke to one of her besties who was struggling with cramps. She's a good friend...but also, I'm not footing that bill. Can come from her spending money. Girl, you can door dash just about anything. Groceries, food, alcohol, pet supplies. You name it.

ohh, today's calls have been some active bullshit. and I can't even fully participate b/c my phone is still busted. the short version is that the woman that previously threw me under the bus for shit I wasn't even seeing that was assigned to me, she basically drove a joint CMO meeting today insisting that X, Y, Z needed to happen before she could release a lot. I pointed out via chat that no, we've released stuff before Z happened in the past, based on X and Y being completed for those lots. <crickets> whatever. my shit's done, I've said my peace, and if shit doesn't get released it's now on her. happy holidays, ma'am. <ohhh how I wish we had a big ol' FU emoji like my phone does> I was able to get out over lunch. I needed to pick up LD's Prozac and heartworm meds for both of them. getting away from my laptop did a world of good, even if I came back to that bullshit. I'm not off tomorrow, but it won't be a full day before the holiday. I wish I could say that I'd be shutting this laptop down til Monday, but until the phone gets fixed, I do need it. please send the universe whatever good mojo y'all can that the new screen will be delivered tomorrow and I can fix the damn phone. b/c this has been painful.

I just got a new producer who doesn't know anything about trucking. He asked me to help him with 2 new accounts. I said sure, send me everything you have on them. He sent me a name and phone number. That's it?! I can't get a truck list? Can I at least get a DOT # and I'll internet stalk them myself?

ETA - this one's fresh, not frozen. they are found in the meat or deli cases. 2 - I liked this one back in college. there's way better options out there... do you have any Boston Markets near you? that's nowhere near as good as it was when it was still Boston local, but it's still better than KFC. just my opinion, and worth exactly what you paid for it.

I am not focusing well today. I sat in the car singing with Blue October for a bit before I came in to close the immediate stress cycle of this morning. Into the Ocean is a great song BTW. But I am now feeling the PTSD from my grandmother and this time of year. I warned DH that they need to tell FIL if he keeps falling and ends up in a hospital, he won't get a vote on going home. DH said he is afraid his dad will kill himself if they even so much as imply that he will end up in a nursing home. I said then you are almost ensuring it will happen because his dad won't be motivated to take the steps to prevent it. One of which being they need to get MIL's walker out and make him use it. It's one of the really nice ergonomic ones that is properly designed for balance issues. Then railings need to be installed everywhere including on his bed. I said your dad has the money and means to be able to hire home help and stay at home. But that will be taken away from him if the state decides he's too much of a at home risk. Him and his siblings need to have a CTJ talk with him sooner rather than later. And I know you can have as many CTJ talks as humanly possible and it still won't prevent the outcome. But at least they can say they tried. I had it out with FIL once and told him if you fall I can't pick you up. I can't pick you up I have to call 911. They come pick you up you are going to be in trouble. He stayed put in the chair till BIL came to help him up. This is me and my mom. She fights the walker and then she falls. My dad can't pick her up by himself so he calls me to help because I can just jump up and go over there with my job being so flexible. Then she and I are arguing about her using the damn walker. I've caught her trying to go up and down stairs. How hard is it to know that if you can't even walk on flat ground, you have no business trying to go up/down flights of stairs?! For what?! The laundry in the basement. Send my sister or my niece after it! They both live there rent free. Let them earn their keep!

Again, because of dairy I have to go high end for chicken pot pies. I'll see if I can find a pic of it. I can eat Banquet beef pot pies though and do so sometimes. KFC was a favorite of my dad's. We often took KFC over to his mom's when he/we went to do chores around her home. Tell KFC they need to make a dairy free version. Glad you like their version and slightly jealous you can eat it ETA - Its Blake's Chicken Pot Pie. Their version does not contain milk, whey or similar to my knowledge. They even use palm oil for the crust. I feel its almost as good as chicken soup when I have bad stuck sinuses.

The dessert run to the larger grocery resulted in 2 large slices of cake, one Italian cream and one German chocolate. That will last us through the weekend.
And I had the chance to go by the pharmacy and tell the pharmacist who helped me the other day what a difference it made to both of us to get a decent night's sleep without coughing.

Well, I just took the first bite of the elephant. After a couple days of dithering, I condensed 10 pages of introduction material (mostly repetitious) down to 2 pages of what I hope is an interesting intro to the autobiography. It's printed out, hole punched and in the big binder behind the first tab. That first bite will be the hardest I think. Next up, family history.

I'm currently stuffing my face. I baked a turkey breast tenderloin (the couple slices on my plate are probably still a few degrees short, but whatever. I'm past hungry. it took way longer than the listed cook time to get to 150 degrees, but the outside of the meat is all dried out? ugh. not following that recipe again. I actually had to stick my plate in the microwave to reheat the sides that were all just sitting around. but, now I have leftover stuffing, mashed, roasted acorn squash, Brussels 'n pancetta, and about 3/4 of that tenderloin. pups will share the acorn, and the butternut I'll roast in a couple days. oh, and the mashed potatoes some. everything else has either garlic or onion. Just watched a YT person and they baked the breat to 145 internal temp and it looked amazing. He sectioned the turkey up like a chicken and it took 1 hr resting and 1 hour baking in the oven to do a whole 14-16 lb turkey. He had the breast on 1 pan and the legs, thighs on another. the thighs were on a 180 internal temperature. everything looks amazing and he even had a thing for rosemary salt and he did a gravy recipe also. It's the THAT DUDE CAN COOK channel.

She hit her head pretty hard last time and went to the hospital. They couldn't find anything wrong with her that would explain the fall. What does that leave? Not using the damn walker like I told her to. Do you really think I haven't told my sister and niece to do it? My mom will do it when nobody is home. Or she won't push back if my niece gripes about it. I've literally told my niece to get off her lazy ass and do what her grandmother tells her to do or else my foot will promptly be going up her ass. That usually gets her moving because I mean it and she couldn't take me on her best day. So should I just wait for her to fall down the basement stairs and die for some stupid laundry? That doesn't really sound like a good option.

I will not share my dad saga which is partly self inflicted because he is too proud to reach out. Reality? If the next fall kills her she will be dead. However, it is far more likely it will just be part of her personal journey. You cannot control other people, so my opinion is do not try. You have told everyone what should not happen and IMO you need to let it all play out. It's your mom's life not yours. And if she is willing to die or be permantly damaged over some laundry so be it.

Sorry about your mom and the walker issues. I wouldn't fight her on what she should and shouldn't do with the walker. She knows, she just doesn't want to live so restricted. And I suspect she hates asking and asking your sis and neice to do laundry. Can you kick your sister's and neices ass instead and have them get on a regularly scheduled laundry time(s)? I get not wanting to live restricted. At some point you have to admit you need help though. What if the next fall is the one that kills her? My FIL fell down an embankment in front of the house. If a neighbor hadn't seen the 4 wheeler out there and called SIL he probably would have died out there. God forbid if the damn thing had tipped over. He laid on the floor overnight last time. He managed to crawl to the phone for help. This time he fell in the bathroom, where a good majority of old people end up dying because they crack their heads. Like it or not at least so far in my experience not wanting to have restrictions ends up with you being forced to and living in a way that you never wanted to. I cannot understand WHY people feel that is better than swallowing your pride now and using a walker. Everyone likes to think it won't happen. I've seen it THREE times in a year and might end up seeing it a fourth time. Damn straight when I get old if I need a walker I am using it. Anything to avoid what I have seen comes from being stubborn and refusing to accept you are aging. Not to mention a hell of a lot less stress and burden on family who are expected to run every time you fall. Is it there life? Sure. Do I resent the ever loving FUCK out of them for what they have put me, my dad and my husband through and will that forever taint my memory of them? Yes.

My favorite was made locally by Dewey Meadow farms until they sold off the business and the land. I feel its almost as good as chicken soup when I have bad stuck sinuses.personally, I found Blake's to be boring. but, I have the luxury of not having restrictions for this sort of thing. it was tasty as far as crust goes, as someone without dairy/gluten issues. if I was limited, I'd probably cook off some frozen veggies and pour them over the top of a cooked pot pie. The gluten free version is a horror IMO and should never be bought. I am jealous of those of you who can have dairy and try things like their Sheperd pie etc. I never buy their or anyone's chicken only version. What I buy has potato pieces with skin and the usual peas and carrots.

Dad laid on the floor for about 24 hours after his fall and now he complains of wanting to die because he's wheelchair bound. In a bad moment, I might tell him what I think. Next time/life don't be an idiot. Get to the phone and call ASAP. The sooner you are rescued off the floor the less permanent or hard to fix damage there might be. But he is 90 and mom has been dead for a few years. He lives alone like I do, so I understand th constraints and the logistics of trying to get help.

I apologize, I missed your earlier post. will he be okay? now, yes - def question the necessity of in-home help. please absolutely stick to your boundaries, and insist that you guys not be the first contact if you can't be there 24/7 (which you also shouldn't at all feel guilty for not being able to...)
