Y'all, I just lost a whole 80 pound dog. I couldn't find Macy for the life of me. The poor thing had been locked in my room. I didn't know she was in there. When I opened the door she darted out of there like she'd been locked up for years. She was only missing for about an hour before I realized I hadn't seen her in a while. aww. I did that to Punk once in the old house. I didn't realize she'd followed me downstairs when I changed over the laundry. she was downstairs in the pitch dark for about an hour before mooch or I realized it. I have locked a dog in the basement or the bedroom on occasion. I do have windows in the basement, and at night I always turn the lights over the bar on very dim for my rabbits. Idk why, it is probably not good for them, but that is what I do. It is going to rain here all day. It should stop between 10 and 11 pm, so I plan to walk my dogs just before bed. We usually go between 7 and 8pm. I am working on my Annual Insurance audit for DH's Work Comp Policy. I just have to look up the amounts of my 941 filings. He came home yesterday with a cancellation notice on the policy. Luckily, I somehow got a copy of it and paid it before it cancelled last month, because the cancellation date was October 12th. I paid it on the 9th. I need to make an appointment with an attorney to do some estate planning. I will be doing that in the next few weeks. DH has decided we are not having Thanksgiving at our house. His Dad's mobility is poor, and he does not go out of the house much. He decided we will just go over there. He will probably cook the fixings at our house and take them over there. He has done this before.

One of our cats regularly climbs thru the ductwork. DH has tried and tried to block all entrances, lots of cursing was involved, and cat still wins.

FIL fell again. This time at 7 pm and was on the floor all night. He managed to get himself to the living room to call his brother. SIL saw the brother pulling into the driveway and thought that was weird so sent her husband over. They ended up having to break down the door because they couldn't find the key. SIL ordered a life alert. I suggested putting an Alexa in his bedroom, the study (where he fell) and the bathroom and maybe in the buildings outside. Alexa can call 911 so if he is awake he can yell at Alexa for help. There is one in the living room but it doesn't do any good if he's in the back of the house. What a mess. I told DH it's quite possible his dad may not be able to live in that house anymore. Or at the least needs more care than SIL can provide. He fell about a half hour after SIL left for the night. I do not like being a sandwich generation Sam I am. And I feel extremely petty saying this but thank God my dad is only 64 and is in excellent health. I don't know what we would do if we had him, FIL and my grandmother to deal with.

So sorry your FIL fell. He definitely needs life alert or something similar.
My Apple Watch has a fall alert and will call 911 if need be.
My 90 year old cousin has life alert. Her 4 nieces set it up so it calls them before it calls 911. She falls a lot and has canes and walkers all over the house. A fall is what will put her in a nursing home.

Housekeeper is gone and realizing how much work I need to do, especially cooking, ugh I dislike that Anyway restarted cleaning company that I cancelled because we hired a housekeeper. Four ladies here doing a meticulous deep clean (more than I ever did!). They’ll be coming every other week. Jerseyguy is annoyed and locked the downstairs room with his ‘stuff’. Did he expect me to start vacuuming, washing floors etc? He certainly wouldn’t clean.

As I mentioned the other day, I am feeling a lot of guilt that I should quit working and take care of my mother. I just don't feel that we can afford the loss of my retirement savings and the cost of the insurance that my job currently covers. My Dad used a wheelchair and then was bedridden for the last 10 years of his life, and my mother always cared for him at home. I am just so conflicted and feel like I am failing her. I also am not keeping up with my household cleaning duties, and our maintenance issues are piling up. It never occurred to me Alexa could call 911. I ask her to call my phone on the regular. Unfortunately, I often accidentally turn the ringer off, so it does not always help me find my phone. I can tell you my mom would never remember that Alexa could call 911 for her b/c it was not implanted in her head from early on. I have noticed my mom is shuffling her feet more, so risk of fall is increasing. She is 85.

I'm seriously second guessing the oral surgeon I picked and paid $1500 to because insurance won't pay. First he was in a dentist office renting space. That was weird and the virtual dental assistant too. Now he's moved within the same building and is located in an eye doctor's office! I just reviewed the website again and sure enough for TMJ it mentions x-rays which he never did. And now he's in a damn eye doctor's office they certainly don't have the equipment. I thought at least some of the initial office visits could be covered so I picked one in network with my medical insurance. My choices were slim. I really suggest checking out a local dental school that has a professional program (trains for specialties like oral surgery, orthodontics, etc) for an oral surgeon. It might be a haul for you, but if you go to the faculty clinic, there is not the wait and while it costs more, it’s not as much as outside dentists. IME dental schools do accept most insurances.

I’ve started answering through my doorbell camera sometimes, even if I am home. One, so whoever it is knows they are on camera. And also so I can do the equivalent of “hanging up” if they annoy me. I answer through it all the time. I have lost all faith in humanity at this point. I'm not opening the door for a stranger. If it's a repair/maintenance person, I tell them to just give me a minute so I can put my dogs away. The twins are friendly, but they're a lot.

Luckily, she has been able to be alone for awhile, but she does have hired help coming in daily. Her last fall was a wake up call to her, in that she is going to need more help than she has.

What a morning. Got to the post office then went to Verizon to buy a wireless charger for my Galaxy S22 ultra because the charge port was shot. I talked iwht the very helpful young man and wound up upgrading my phone to an S23 ulta, DH's to a Galaxy Z and DD's to an iPhone 15, plus we get a 4th line, and pay less per month than I've been paying. THere was a one-time cost of $450 for taxes, fees, accessories and etc. but I do win in the end. Kind of crazy.

If you hire someone you can keep working and get the benefits even if you have to give your take home pay to the agency.

I'm currently thawing out at the Chinese restaurant with a cocktail, waiting on my takeout order. pups got some chicken nuggets before I stopped here. we will head home from here, so I can finally eat today. not sure what is on tap for us the rest of the day, but we will figure something out.
if I can figure out how to attach a pic from my phone, I'll share my own waves pic. I took it from the car before we got out to explore, so it doesn't come close to finnime's skills. but the view from the lookout was stunning.

My mom was saying something about me trying to have them move in with me. I assured her that I do not want to live with her. However, there will come a time when her and my dad are too old to live alone. Their choice will be live with me or go to a nursing home. I'd put her in a home today, but I doubt that's what she wants. She shut up after that.

Got home from site visit about an hour ago. Hit the grocery store on the way home, put them away and am calling it a day.
Have lots to say about how it went, will touch on that tomorrow. Going to unplug for a bit while it is still 60 degrees out and soak it up. When it starts getting dark I will plug back in to work on and connect with people on a fundraiser I am working on for baby Serenity. Her mom messaged me last night - sadly neither mom nor dad are a kidney match. My heart breaks for them.

It's done. I don't know what was in the water supply yesterday but we called again today and in less than a minute the guy was able to confirm that the claim was processed and a check is in the mail. I should have the money back either tomorrow afternoon or sometime Friday. Thank God.

When you were recounting your conversation feom yesterday it sounded like an asshole CSR that worked with me at KC Life. I almost asked if it was her.

I’ve unknowingly kidnapped a dog before. There was an elderly golden retriever following me around my yard one day years ago. Not uncommon as at that time a bunch of people let their dogs wander the neighborhood on their own. I went into the house, then closed the garage door via the door from the laundry room. I went and took a shower and was relaxing a couple hours later when I kept hearing occasional muffled barking. I went back to the laundry room and peeked in the garage and the old dog was laying by the stairs wagging his tail and woofing at me. I gave him some water and walked him home. Sweet old boy.

We got a hand addressed handwritten letter from a different town and return address names I didn’t recognize. Turned out it was realtors asking if we’d be willing to sell our house to their prospect. Probably best they weren’t there in person, my knee jerk answer was somewhere between “F*** no you twats” and running them out of town on a rail I have no patience for salespeople. I’m not wired that way; I am allergic to wasting people’s time. I get texts and phone calls asking to buy our house. Just for giggles, I responded to one text that the price would be $1 million. They wanted to know how I figured that price. [My house isn’t worth 1/4 of that.] Heck, if I got to go through the trouble of moving and finding another place, you better make it worth my while.

How old is your FIL? As I mentioned the other day, I am feeling a lot of guilt that I should quit working and take care of my mother. I have noticed my mom is shuffling her feet more, so risk of fall is increasing. She is 85. You have talked about your mother's memory issues. The feet shuffling is a sign of dementia. I had no idea it was when dad started doing that. I agree you have to insure that you have retirement. Life is not longer like it was when women didn't usually work outside the home and took in elderly family members. I'm sorry.
