y'all, I slept hard last night. I never heard my alarm, or I turned it off in my sleep, idk. I had a bedroom window open, and it was a strong and steady rain overnight - perfect sleeping weather! I woke up around 830 with my hair everywhere (I lost the scrunchie somewhere overnight) and somewhat sweaty (Punk snuggles will do that) with eye crusties in both eyes and a general confusion as to where I was and what day of the week it is. all I have to say is that it's a good thing my 9am call was cancelled, b/c I wasn't coherent enough to prepare on the fly to speak to anything that's mine. I do need to find some time today to run out to the close grocery store. pup breakfast was a little um, creative today. oops.

I have not paid much attention to school start times around here since my kids graduated, but the first school bus picks up 6:15 on our road. I believe that is the special needs bus. The next around 6:45 and another around 7:30. I know that they have other kids to pick up, but that seems awful early.
ETA: Their websites are not very user friendly, so I have yet to find actual school hours - except for high school, it is 7:30 - 2:20.

first bus here is 630, that's for the HS senior across the street. not sure when the others are.
first world problem/question - do I want to spend $50 for "Early Bird Check In" for my Southwest flights next weekend? BOS-BWI on a Thursday midday, BWI-BOS on a Monday afternoon. I can't remember the last time I flew SW, but I know I don't wanna be stuck in a middle seat. I think I just answered my own question right there.

DD1 is in middle school. Her school starts at 7:20am and we tend to leave the house around 6:45-6:55am. If DD2 went to get home middle school, the bus picks up kids around 6:50-6:52am.
When DD2 starts PreK, that school starts at 7:35am. That will be an adjustment for her. Of course, DD1 will be high school then and they tend to start later (8:30am, I think).

chiver78 will you be able to check in 24 hours prior both ways? That's usually my consideration when adding that on. I used to roll the dice more and just buy the upgrade to the A1-15 group if needed. They increased the max price of that to $80 so instead of the $40 it used to cost me, it was $60 when I checked earlier this month. I also look at whether it's a 700, 800 or a Max.

I do remember paying $40 once to upgrade from a C, not thrilled to hear it could be $80 now. if you checked for a flight, where would I look for that? also - the bold may as well be Greek. what does that mean? daisylu - I don't have a boarding # yet, I think that's assigned at check-in?

I use the app for my tickets, and it shows there as soon as I book. But, I have almost always waited until the day before or morning of before upgrading and had no issues.
I've been on those flights on weekdays and have never seen the upgrades sold out.

how can that be, if it's based on check-in? why is it so important to check-in right at 24h ahead of time? has your # ever changed? that's kind of hinky to me... I think I'll just stick with JetBlue in the future, I know what to expect there.

Abby took me on a tour of her new bookshelf. So that's what I sound like. She even has them organized by author and theme like I do.

My number has never changed, but that may be the difference in having their app. But I am used to SW and with a carryon and backpack I can be out of the airport in less than 5 minutes.

If you buy early bird or have status, Southwest will check you in 36 hours in advance and assign a boarding position. Otherwise you need to check in exactly 24 hours prior to flight time to get assigned a boarding position.
If you look up your flights it will tell you what the assigned aircraft is. All they fly is Boeing 737s but they have a couple versions with different capacities. Max is the biggest one so I worry less about a mid to late B boarding group than on a flight on a 700.
In August my coworker did the upgrade for BWI to San Antonio and it was $60. I priced it for BWI to MCO earlier this month and it was $60. It was previously $40 for that route.
It's a different process but I'm used to it like daisy. Reagan is a hassle and no thank you on the traffic to Dulles so BWI is my home airport and Southwest is the biggest carrier. I'm not paying extra to Delta, United or American and having a connection just so I can pick my seat. Jet Blue has abandoned BWI. I'm hopeful they return if the Spirit acquisition clears but that's up in the air.
You can also just buy early bird for the return trip. You don't need both ways if you think you'll be available to check in for the first flight.

oh, okay. looks like 700 down, MAX8 back.
re: boarding # and all that. so it sounds like even if I check in at 24h right on the dot, I'm behind all the business status folks and those with an app. that's kind of shitty for all the "make sure you check in 24h ahead of time!! reminders, and not like what they used to be when I'd fly them more (out of PVD or MHT) for quickie vacations. ugh.
do either of you mind pricing out an upgrade for these? Th - flight 172, Mon - flight 370. TIA

Sipping on the bone broth I cooked up yesterday. It is the most gelatinous batch I have ever made, and the mushrooms that I decided to add at the last minute raised the flavor profile. This batch was made from ribs and pork chop bones.

I am dragging this morning. We did a lot yesterday and then it's that time of year that I wake up at O'dark thirty. This is why I hate DST and especially the late switch back to standard time. If we were in standard time sunrise would now would happen just before 6:00 instead of just before 7:00. My work day starts at 7:30; DST is hard for early morning people. I can deal with the cold and dark of winter because, hello!, it's winter. But going back to late sunrise in the spring and then dealing with unnecessarily late sunrises in September and October is painful. /End soapbox

Everyone has assumed their morning position. Coffee at hand, iPad in use and dog and cat both sacked out on my lap. I peed before sitting down, so the brats shouldn’t need to be disturbed (because who likes disturbing a sleeping animal?). I checked out Harriet’s incision, it looks pretty good and she has been good about not trying to scratch at it.
Chilly, rainy, windy day out today, a good day to make chili but we have pulled pork. It didn’t come off the smoker until after 10 last night rather than the 6 pm we expected, so did a pizza run last night.
I should finish the beanie I have been working on. I have frogged it 4 times! Maybe I shouldn’t have chosen a complicated cable pattern using circular needles the first time. I think I made every mistake one can make using them! Hopefully that’s all out of my system. I went digging in the box of yarn and supplies that I bought to do when I got infected. I have some really nice yarn in there, empty credit card plus narcotics is not a good combo! Anyway, I found the project I was working on before I decided that my attention span wasn’t sufficient to knit. I need to frog it, but I really want to find that pattern, it was gorgeous! The hank of yarn is tangled badly too, but I need to find out how much I have of this yarn.

Anytime for the #172 is $214 right now. #370 is $219. I'm guessing the early bird would be much cheaper than upgrading to those fares. At least I'm assuming you bought the cheap fares.

I'm doing ok so far, but concerned and worrying. My eating has changed a lot but need to stick with it. The biggest issue I always have had is quantity control. Now I'm satisfied with a little of this and that, will it last? And I thank you for your thoughtfulness. We have all done better, even hubs has lost 30 pounds. Today I was able to squat and get back up, haven't been able to do that for a long time. DD's neurologist told her for headaches and better sleep take Vitamin B and magnesium. I read up on it and sounds like it wouldn't hurt me either so also started on them. I didn't realize how important magnesium is and since they are both supposed to help with energy I'm hoping in time they will. She said 400 mg of each. My chiropractor recently told me the same thing.

I've told DH several times if I had the time I would meticulously organize my books by the Dewey Decimal system.

The picture finally came up. Pink, hubs and I are having a LOT of discussions about what we need to do, but we disagree, so I'm looking at the ramifications of the end results of many of our discussions trying to come up with how to handle things. Believe me when I say we are having big time disagreements on this stuff. I don't know what we are going to do yet, first we have to sell everything to see where we are. But believe me we will know what we can or cannot afford. And if we get out of houses what I think we can, we will be more than fine. Hubs is getting a lot of odd ideas about things and I'm trying to keep him on the straight and narrow. I won't even go into all of it. But he is starting to worry me. He somehow thinks we don't need much to live on. maybe he is seeing his mortality. One minute he is talking about moving, the next he isn't about to move. At least we are on the same page about selling rentals as I told him I'm just not dealing with renters any longer. I am totally burned out on that sh** after the last two. And I'm not about to help anyone but family, our immediate family anymore. We have got to wait until Oct 13th and I'm not sure we will have answers that day. But I'm going to stop any discussion with him about what we need to do. After this week I'm going to start organizing stuff of mine to get rid of and go from there. He doesn't mind about that anyway. All I hear of late is don't buy this or don't buy that, we don't need it. Even multiples of grocery items. I will handle it, but it is beginning to get on my nerves a bit, good thing I'm tough as nails. Country, please try to be patient with your DH. He is feeling a buffet of emotions right now. The way forward will be more clear once his diagnosis is set and treatment has begun. My father was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer around age 65. His PSA score was about 135. The cancer had spread to his spine. Dad was very emotional about his diagnosis for the first few years. Fortunately, (or horribly) the local doctors have a lot of experience with prostate cancer in that area. He went through several treatment therapies including hormone suppression, infusion, radiation infusion and lastly chemo. Dad had other health problems that required him to stop cancer treatments for several months at a time in order to address the other issues. That is when he back slid and the cancer began to overtake him. My dad lived for 15 years with his cancer, and it was very advanced. Your DH caught it early and should have a great outcome with treatment. You have made that first step to be near your Washington family, in time your DH will see the value of being nearby. Just keep on decluttering and selling unused stuff as you have planned. Tomorrow is promised to no one, we have to make the most of today.

The inspector is there for the post office. Hubs came down and I went to meet the realtor.
The guy saw stuff growing in the gutter, we hadn't even looked at that stuff for a long time. Also a place on the roof that needed fixed, so hubs cleaned the gutter and is going to fix the place on the roof. Hubs said that last wind storm must have done that but its not leaking. He told him if anything else sticks out let him know. I'm sure he can find plenty on a 1910 building.
The house is listed, we paid $30k in 2016, rented it for 7 years to 1 tenant but got no money the last 9 months. We got $37k in rent with only having to replace the washer dryer and some minor repairs.
While this may not sound like much money to those of you in cities, its decent here. We are listing it for $74,900 and the realtor thinks we will get it. We spent around $4k on flooring and paint, probably $1k on a new water heater. So since rent paid for it, it will be profit for the most part. That is more money than I added in as possible sales proceeds, so will be happy with that. She said if it was in the nearest town we could easily get $89k for it, and we are aware of that.
I need to get busy and I don't want to. I would like to spend the day reading, I have a good book. But I will at least vacuum the last 2 bedrooms and mop both bathrooms so I can put the throw rugs back down. Don't want to take a chance of falling on wet tile. So I need to at least do that much. I just want to be lazy today.

I got something plus, I remember that much. it was billed as refundable to the original payment method and not just the bank for future use, and then that wasn't the case once the payment was confirmed. that false advertising alone was irritating enough to never bother looking at this airline again. (again, not a huge carrier here in BOS, not a problem) I only paid like $250 total, though. what's the $40-80 thing you mentioned earlier? that's what I was asking about, you said that you were able to price that out ahead of time. I'm so confused.

I work for NYS. The division I work for mandates some facility visits (I'm deliberately being vague) that require travel around NYS. I am also mandated to attend some training sessions that are held yearly in the greater NYC area.
I do what I have to do. I submit my mileage request. NYS requires me to submit the correspondence from my division mandating these visits.
Oy. Can't NY just talk to itself and send the memo to the comptroller's office at the same time the memos are sent to the employees?
