ugh, I figured I wasn't totally escaping it in my lifetime. here's hoping it all passes soon. I've never needed those parts, and would have happily taken them out if I'd been allowed to. tonight will definitely be chill. I'm about to go fix pup dinner, later than usual but they have both been sleeping all day. we will come back down for the rest of the night if it's still stupid humid out. I'm not sure when that is supposed to break. I haven't had a shark week since 2014, thanks to science (mirena). My plan is to to slip into menopause in peace. I hope you have a relaxing evening! [ Same! I'll get another when this one expires in 2025 and hopefully coast into menopause without the mess.

have you guys used bar keepers friends on glass top cook stoves? I have and still do, ever since Archie recommended it to Chloe, I believe. So crazy to remember that post and the names but it was a great tip that I used ever since Speaking of memories, I started a thread years ago about kitchen stuff. Savoir Faire (I don’t know how to spell it correctly but he didn’t spell it correctly himself in his user name lol) gave me advice about basic pans I needed in my kitchen. And ArchietheDragon chimed in about how important good knives were, and how having a good, balance knife in your hand was sexy. I remember thinking they were both crazy, or at least didn’t understand me at all, because I’d always bought cheap pots and pans in boxed sets and spending $100 on one knife was my idea of ridiculous. But, I ended up buying Calphalon pots and pans, non stick and stainless steel. When I got with Mister, I had issues trying to cook on his stove, and I thought something must’ve wrong with his stove. But I brought one of my Calphalon pans over there to cook something, and I realized the problem wasn’t really his stove, but his cookware. I had a few issues taking that pan back home after some months, but that’s another story lol. So because of what Archie said about knives, I bought one on clearance at Target. And I could tell the difference even though that one was t expensive. So I bought another one that cost a little more money. And that led to today, when I have a set of knives that cost more than I’d ever thought I’d pay for some damn knives. The current set may not be the best, but I paid for them what in my mind is a lot of money for some stupid knives. I do not regret the purchase.

Welll Happy, happy, joy, joy!
No particular reason, just felt like saying that.
Hubs, DD, and I went to the Paw paw festival, pretty nice. Good crowd, food just ok, but pretty day and nice crowd of people.
My sentences are posting from the middle, why I don't know, will fix it later.
Then he and I went to the city, we stocked up on water softener salts, and kitty litter, he bought some baseboard to finish the house. Then we went to buy fuel.
Got the 100 gallon tank filled for the stove, we have 2, one was empty. $100 Filled up the gas cans for mowing $175 Filled up the truck $60! Dang, $325 for fuel, ouch, ouch, ouch.
By than stopped at a buffet, haven't been there in years, we ate a late lunch. Was just ok and $40, stopped and bought DD dinner to take home. We also picked apples and pears today, they were really nice. Cleaned litter boxes, ran the robot sweeper, dried and folded clothes. But soooo much needs done here, need to get busy tomorrow.
Hubs has been so nice since we have been home, I think he missed us, we sure missed him. I'm hoping next summer he can go, but he is trying to fix and get rid of things and he may be working all summer to do that. I so hope he is ok.
Bathtime for momo, need to get that done and some more clothesput away.
Been a good day overall.
But once again, no weed pulling, HAVE to do it tomorrow.

Well, an unexpected “ gift” from traveling- influenza A. The worst is over but I’m weak still. A few more weeks and I’d have had my flu shot. I usually travel in October so it’s never been an issue but omg, the flu is awful. I can’t even remember the last time I had it, it’s been that long. Of course it started last Saturday and I couldn’t get in to see doctor until Tuesday. Too late for tamiflu but she suggested a B complex to help combat the lack of energy. I’m sick and tired of being sick and tired!! Fortunately, DD didn’t catch it from me so she’s ok. Oh, that sounds really rough. So sorry to hear you’ve been sick. Glad you seem to have turned the corner and are feeling a bit better, and hope you start feeling stronger as the days go.

I had my first meeting with the Medicaid lady yesterday. It was overwhelming but at least now I'm heading in the right direction.
The clusterf*ck last November could muck things up but she said it's fixable. I sent her the application I filled out so she can check if I did something wrong and what documents if any I may need to explain the discrepancy.
We had a long talk about nursing homes in general and the social worker at my grandma's in particular. It is really disturbing that none of these places know anything about Medicaid and very few social workers hired do actual social work.
The one I'm dealing with is particularly notorious. Medicaid lady said she's had to get very blunt and aggressive because the crap SW pulls can make it hard to get approved and take months to untangle depending on how deep you dug yourself.
I'm not too deep fortunately.
It's just awful what we put old people and families through.
Iowa is apparently one of the worst states. Yay. All I can say is we aren't Florida and that is a REALLY low bar.

I know we have been dealing with a lot of deaths lately, particularly of our older relatives. Add me to the list. My ex's mother had a heart attack playing bingo on Wednesday. At the ER, the doctors discovered that her aortic valve had collapsed. She is on a morphine drip and getting weaker and weaker. This is really hard on my children, even if they are in the 40s, because they were extremely close to their grandmother. She's had dementia for the last several years, but my daughter said that when she couldn't remember the relationship, she always introduced her as someone she loved a lot--her sister, her aunt, and so on. Some of the relationships made the caregivers smile at the absurdity, Losing her and my former FIL were one of the harder parts of my divorce. And they always treated me with kindness afterwards even though I asked for the divorce. I met my ex when I was 18, and we were married for almost 25 years so she was a significant part of my life. I have always tried not to intrude unless necessary (my grandkids' birthdays, graduations, etc.) where my ex's family was concerned, but I wanted to say "I love you" and "good-bye" even though she is basically comatose from the morphine. My daughter made that happen when her father and his wife had gone home for the night. I am not sure they would have said no, but I didn't have to ask. I won't go back to the hospital unless asked, but I am at peace with my good-byes. And with her death. We all are, but it is still difficult. I am sorry for your imminent loss, it is hard to lose someone even when it is expected. And I am glad you were able to go see her to say your good-byes. *hugs*

What a day. Around 11 my mom texted to let me and my siblings know our grandmom passed away this morning; that obviously warranted an immediate phone call. We've been expecting it; my mom had been a primary caregiver since last August, so it just feels like a weird relief right now, for my mom's sake. She put her life on hold the past 13 months. Grandmom passed a few days shy of her 95th birthday, not too shabby. I already had plans to have my birthday lunch with my dad today, and he's leaving on a Viking European cruise tomorrow so I didn't want to cancel on him. Husband and I did have a good lunch with Dad, so that was good. Then we went to Grandmom's to sit with my mom and aunt as they waited for the funeral home to come collect her body. I'm glad we were there for my mom and aunt. So now I'm home with some wine, Indian leftovers, and catching up on today's chatter here. I hope everyone is well. I am very sorry for your loss of your beloved grandmom. I hope your mom is at peace that she did what she could to make her last days as comfortable as possible. It will be an adjustment for her after suspending her life for the past year.

I just finished rolling in balls 2 hanks of yarn. One was a tangled mess. The local yarn stores will not do this unless you buy yarn from them. You and gira would like my son's piano teacher. She spins her own thread and makes her own yarn from her alpacas and angora rabbits. She says it takes her about 50 hours to make a scarf. I'm like...uh...not for me.
She has all these huge weaving looms too.

I have a spinning wheel and a four harness table top loom. The loom I got at a garage sale for $40. It's like 10x+ for a new one. I need time. Or a sugar daddy. Quite possibly both.

I had grand plans to continue de-cluttering today, but I guess I wasn't in the mood for it. I trimmed some trees, and started a small car cleaning project since I invited my mom along tomorrow and I wanted to at least get the garbage out so she wouldn't be upset about her Fridge being a mess, but that morphed into a complete interior/exterior detailing job that lasted a few hours. I found a tiny chip in the windshield so I'll have to call insurance about that before it turns into a crack.
The back is packed with stuff I'm unloading at DS's house, so I guess I did declutter some.

Crap, I wish I had done stuff earlier. Discovered a half an hour ago my water had been turned off. Since its Saturday night I'll be lucky to have water by lunchtime tomorrow, I think. Late morning would be nice, but I am not going to expect it. No email or phone messages either. Keep me in your prayers. I am tempted to forage through a mystery Door Dash from McD's on the shared porch even though I know it's been there for 6 hours so it would not be safe. Was trying to make myself finally make dinner, but I needed to wash pans, etc.

Something is in the air. I did the same last week. I intended to go to the zoo this week for the first time in years, but it hasn’t happened yet. It’s a relatively tiny zoo compared to others, but I do enjoy watching the otters frolic. And I’ll think of Virgil when I see the snow leopard. Ours used to have a monorail that went around the park enclosure from above that my oldest loved to go on. About 12 years ago they shut that down, and just a few weeks ago it has been reopened as an elevated walking trail. I can't wait to check it out. That zoo sounds amazing and the monorail or the new walking trail look like really something out of this world. I’d like to say that I would be tempted to visit but knowing myself as I feel just tired these days, I don’t think I would really go. Please, share pictures if you ever go!

I was sitting in the garage with the door up and Mister came out there to smoke a cigar and asked me “what is that smell, what u been doing out here”. My answer was nothing, and I was confused about why he even asked me that.
He started moving shit around to try to see what the smell was, and long story short, a container of paint thinner had started leaking on the floor of the garage. Once we discovered that it was leaking, we moved everything on the floor where it had leaked. I had a bag of sand in the deck box, that I thought we could use to try soak it up, but the sand was damp, and didn’t absorb much of the spill. So we made a run to Home Depot to get something to soak it up, grateful that they were still open.
Once Mister found what he smelled, I could smell it too, and it was very strong. I am grateful that Mister could smell it when he first came out there, and I’m grateful that it has a strong smell that even I could finally smell at a certain point. Even with the garage door open, the smell was overwhelming.
I am very grateful right now that our house didn’t explode or burn to the ground. Cuz wtf?

Found a cute little doll at the thrift store for $3.
She's Miss December and is a Bradley doll from Korea. She's dressed like Mrs Claus. Could not resist.
She came with her tag and certificate of authenticity so I got on Google.
What little I found they were popular in the 70s. Produced from the mid 50s to early 80s.
She must have come from someone's estate.
Tempted to go get the other two on the shelf.
She's kinda interesting in appearance she appeals to my kitschy odd side.

My Comcast went out again today. Ugh. I called and said, I'm tired of dealing with it. A technician is coming between 8-10AM tomorrow. Although I will be glad to have it fixed, I am NOT a morning person.
I hope they don't have to come into my bedroom, it's a mess! And I have no motivation to clean it up.

Good morning, wonderfully wise invisipeeps, as you wind your way through Sunday. I hope your day is restful. And, that a phenomenal dessert is on offer. I woke yesterday with a headache that wouldn't quit for hours into the arts and crafts fair. I wound up taking a rest in the car with the ac running, glad that we have a hybrid so wasn't just burning gas. Also I drank lots of iced tea. I may have been dehydrated. DH manned our booth. We had people stop by but sold nothing. There were very few customers for anyone, even for the food booths. Afterward we went out for ice cream, premium stuff made at the store. Once we got home I unpacked the car and plotzed for a time. DD had cleaned up the kitchen from my mad fruit salad making the day before. I'm very glad to live in an area not prone to earthquakes. Thank you for the post, weltschmerz. Today I'll bring Franklin the Dog to the beach as is our custom. I won't be able to tomorrow morning, or the rest of the week as we'll be away. I took this photo, a Great Egret and its reflection, a couple of days ago.

DH and I had a real CTJ talk when he got home from work last night. We both now have things to work on, but we'll be ok -eventually. We were brutally honest and put all the cards on the table, including how he let everything build up in his head and shook me, and that it is going to take a while for me to trust him emotionally. But I'm feeling much more hopeful.

I hope it is fixed now or well on its way. In plumbing news, it is past 9:30AM and no plumber in sight. Rain will ramp up throughout the day so sooner would be better as thunderstorms are predicted to start at 2PM. Hoping the laundry building has water so I have something to wear to work on Monday. A newer resident called the police. Not sure how that will help but maybe it at least documented the problem? Cop car no longer on this side of the building, I wonder if it left. Generally, they start in the basement indoors so not sure why we do not have someone on site yet. Found no emergency number to call, not even sure if we have an apartment manager to text. I was unable to put in a ticket last night into the portal as it denied my login credentials were correct. Hopefully my downstairs neighbor did so after we talked about this last night.
