It was ....different. Lots of people playing on the stage. Many guitars, fiddles, a double bass, a mandolin, a couple of squeezeboxes, etc. It wasn't country music, it was more early bluegrass. All old and middle-aged people. People were doing line dancing on the dance floor. It felt like the annual barn dance down in the holler. The place was packed. I ate, smoked a fat one, and then stayed for about an hour. The bartender was the spitting image of Keanu Reeves. I made it home without incident. Will I be back for hillbilly night? No, I will not. Yea, that photo is very much NOT how I imagine you to be Yes, it's the exact opposite of me. But, it's good to get out your comfort zone and do something different. The day after tomorrow I'm going to see Sona Jabarteh from Gambia at Les Nuits D'Afrique. That's much more my speed. It should be a fanastic show.

DN3 is the one with the concussion issues so concerts are not his thing with the loud music. His brain can't handle it. So his wife and step son are going to Chicago to see Bruce Springsteen for the boy's 8th birthday. I hope he has listened to enough of Bruce's music to enjoy. He was really excited when he told me about it. I'm sure he has never been to a stadium concert. He may be too young to be impressed with Wrigley Field, too. We're seeing Bruce in Philly in August! Will be my first time seeing him live. Get ready for a marathon. I went to see him in Syracuse. The show was almost 4 hours long.

I'm jealous. I was going to try and go for my birthday since it won't be so hot in November. However the weekend I was going to go is the weekend that Aerosmith is going to be here for their farewell tour, so I'm going to that instead. Omg. I totally forgot we have concert tickets in October! That reminded me to email the venue about a question I had. The concert starts at 8 and the parking ramp ticket says 7:30. I don't know if they really won't let us in the ramp until 7:30, but that seems to be cutting it short if traffic is a nightmare in the area. I'm one that likes to be super-freaking early to things like this even if it means just hanging out in the car for awhile. Well, they got back to me already. They said they don't know why the tickets say 7:30, but the ramp is available up to 3 hours prior to the event. That works for me!

I really wish I could go on antidepressants but it’s not worth the migraines. It’d be great to devote less headspace to fighting imposter syndrome and more to getting sh!t done. I am really tempted to try medical cannabis.Today the neighbor is having tree work done. This is across the street; both of us have corner lots with an enormous amount of street frontage (no sidewalks). Looked out to see the tree company had successfully taken up all of theirs and all of ours parking their enormous vehicles and equipment Had to get them to move one just to be able to move Old Car out of the driveway so I could drop off New Car for inspection. We have people with their own large vehicles coming to do stuff on the pool today and our other across the street neighbor is having part of his driveway paved; we are not amused. Good news, dropped off car for inspection. Chipping away slowly…also need to find a less annoying dentist for kid and schedule his cleaning. Have not yet looked at the new inherited assets account, I have a bit of a mental block on that front. I did let them know they need to send a check or similar for DS bc I am not giving them his SSN to open a damn account there. PSA on that make sure wherever you buy it from knows what they are doing. I have anxiety so certain strains of cannabis cause me to fly off a wall. I found that out when I took an edible in Colorado and spent the entire time freaking out because Nancy Regan told me just say No and she was right. My brother said that was a rookie mistake. Since I went to a recreational store they aren't always as good about asking questions. In a medical store they would have asked me if I had anxiety and not allowed me to purchase those. The second set of edibles we got at a different store and those were awesome. I was in a great mood and slept fantastic. They were like the fruit gummies shaped like orange and watermelon slices. Wish we had kept the bag so we could know the brand. Third set had a wee bit too much THC. There is no child size dose. The first one I spent all night trapped on the bed because my brain thought it was skyscraper tall and I would fall to my death. Second night I had a depressive episode. DH said that was enough edibles for me. I decided I am done with cannabis unless we could find the second set of gummies again. Edibles do nothing for me. No effect whatsoever. I did some research, and apparently, they don't stay in my system long enough have any effect. I have stomach issues. I've tried the gummies, the other candies, the THC pills, the baked goods, and nothing. Pot makes me anxious, and i don't like the smell. My go-to is hashish. Very mellow high. I've been smoking it for close to half a century. I know a guy. I've known him forever. He gets it from Nepal. Wonderful black sticky stuff.

Today is my son's 39th birthday. I got him a big gift but I want to do something else, like taking him and his woman out for supper. There's a freaking CASTLE near where he lives, built in the 12th century. He had no idea it was there. I could take DS and Melody on a tour. He's very ho-hum about all my suggestions. Chateau Pierrefonds

I was thinking earlier about this whole pandemic and how it changed me. I used to be out all the time meeting people and networking. I was such a social butterfly. Now I just want to be in my house and be left alone. I still go out here and there, but not anything like before.

DIL is like me, noone to keep the dogs while she is gone, she said I'm like you with the cats. She could probably get her sister and BIL to keep one but not both. Son is usually home when she goes and keeps them. But he is going to be gone a lot. It gets very expensive really quick to board them.
Well I better go in and start scraping off wall paper again, sigh. I was going to start enjoying myself this week as I had all my projects done. She will help later I guess, but there is a lot of work in there to do. And no matter how careful, the whole house has pieces of wallpaper tracked through it. I was all done except for cleaning my car out.
I know it needed done, but I wasn't ready to do it right now, sigh I hate doing a project I'm not in the mood to do. DIL just called she is coming to help. I just need to get my heart in this, because it will look really nice. The room was very dark and ugly, I also need to put new tile down in there. With the green tub, I will likely go with the palest of greens at the top.
I am making a big pot of gumbo for all of us tonight. Making it more like son likes it. I like it with just seafood, but he also likes chicken and sausage in it, so will make it that way. Than I need to cook rice. I bought sole, have some rockfish, shrimp, and some scallops, the fish cooks up fast so put it in last.

I have had the pleasure of seeing Bruce Springsteen twice. Once was in the now gone McNichols arena in Denver and the other one at the small and intimate Paramount Theater. The Paramount show was by far the best. I really enjoy when artists perform in a theater that size.
It was set up so you couldn't pick up the tickets until the day of the show and you had to show your driver's license and credit card. It was 1996 and I think I had to call to get the tickets and I got totally lucky.

I want him to go out and DO things. There's a great beach near his house, or go to the movies, or go out to eat or go to a concert. He does nothing but work. Next year he'll be 40, and he hasn't done ANYTHING in his life that was fun. He's going to have regrets. He's almost 40 and he's never been to a concert. At his age, I had gone to more concerts than I can count. Work, work, work. It's not healthy.

It says it's in France. Doesn't your son live near you? My son lives in Pierrefonds. I googled 'things to do in Pierrefonds" and that kept coming up. If it's in France, I guess we won't be going. We have castles galore here, so it's an easy mistake to make. You can't swing a cat without hitting a castle.

My day started going sideways soon after I got out of bed. One of the dogs threw up their breakfast in front of the sliding door. I don’t know which one did it, because they were both standing in front of the door when I walked in the den. I don’t do well with that kind of stuff, so then I started throwing up, but at least I threw up in the toilet. Every time I tried to make myself go clean it up, I threw up again. But people think I’m just exaggerating and making excuses when I say I don’t do well with bad smells and bodily fluids. I finally managed to clean it up, but I was gagging and spitting for another 20 minutes or so afterward. Then a few things I was trying to get done, went awry, so I said screw it all and came outside. And I may or may not have an adult beverage in my cup. I don’t have anymore energy to expend right now. I unblocked DD this morning and we talked maybe an hour ago. We talked about what I was trying to talk about yesterday before she pissed me off by falling into her old pattern of deflecting by trying to make me the problem, when the subject at hand didn’t even have shit to do with me or anything I have any control over, and everything to do with her getting her shit together. Since my nerves were already wrecked just before I came outside, I went on and opened the envelopes from my job. They weren’t nasty grams and both said the same thing, that my work hours are changing. I will be going to work later in the morning. I don’t mind that, but I’m not crazy about getting off work later lol. Especially since that means I will have to deal with the next shift and their management the last few hours of my workday. That shift is a whole HOT ASS, toxic mess, from the crazy employees to the crazy managers. I already know I’m not going to do too well with all that cussing, yelling and talking crazy, and trying to fight (literally) and I don’t need any more shit negatively affecting my mental health. So if I’m subjected to all of that, it will become my employer’s problem, because I will press the issue and go as far as I have to with it. I already spent years working in that toxic, hostile environment before I started working days, I’ve talked about some of it here before. A lot of things that go on at my job, most people would have a hard time believing it happens at a place of business, and not because of customers, because we don’t deal with customers. I’m not dealing with that bullshit again. And it’s even worse now, than it was back then, which is why I’ve been relieved to be on days and hit the clock and skedaddle when all that negative energy changes the whole atmosphere and the foolishness starts. Anyway, I am mentally preparing for it, but still trying to hope for the best, since at least I won’t have to get out of bed and leave for work before sunrise anymore.

I'm trying to make pesto. I don't have a food processor, so I'm trying to do it with my Magic Bullet. It's not so magic and is struggling with the basil.
I have to do it in very small batches.

Yesterday afternoon I was sitting on the deck, and saw that some little birds had finally discovered the birdbath I set up a few weeks ago. They were drinking and splashing in the water, and watching them made me happy.
During the late afternoon, Mister was outside the gate letting the dogs run around and I asked if he would please do me a favor and get some tomatoes of the plants for me. I’d been trying to work my nerves up all day to do it myself, and been unsuccessful. A couple of the ones with Blossom End Root had started ripening and I wanted them gone before they attracted attention from the critters. And there was a Roma I’d noticed that something had dug a hole into. So he got them off for me.
Then sent me some videos from Instagram, telling me stuff I already knew about growing tomatoes, as if I’ve not been reading about growing tomatoes for about a year and a half by now.
I know my plants wouldn’t be so creepy to me now if I’d pruned them regularly. But first of all, I didn’t expect them to grow so densely and get all tangled up together, like they did. I grew Better Boys last year, and the foliage was not nearly like it is on the ones I have this year. I used different soil and compost this year, and I guess overall, the conditions they’re in is better than last year? Idk
Secondly, aside from the general agreement that it’s best to keep the bottom of the plants clear, there is debate about pruning. It can help prevent some problems, but it also leaves open “wounds” that make the plants vulnerable for a minute. I don’t mind pruning, just for my own comfort level so I can see what’s in there, but I don’t want to do too much and stress them even more they they are already stressed from this hot ass weather, since pruning is additional stress. They appear to be healthy overall, and have a lot of (still green!) tomatoes growing, and I think that’s what’s most important for now.
Next year, I will get an earlier start, space them even farther apart than recommended, and stay on top of the pruning before it gets super hot. For the rest of this year though, Mister is just going to have to deal with me being creeped out, and help me. It’s not like he’s done anything else he said he’d do to help, besides install the drip irrigation. And DS helped him do that.

I just watched the most recent episode of Ninety Day Fiancé. Some couples are a match made in Heaven and some are made in Hell. Both are fun to watch. I wish I believed some of these folks are actors being paid to play stupid on TV because it's scary to think they are that dumb IRL.

I closed all the blinds and curtains in the house because it’s 96° outside and idk how long the power will be out. Now the whole house is dark as hell and not very inviting. It’s not like I had the a/c on blast, so I fear it won’t take long for the house to get hot.
It’s brighter outside, but sitting outside in the heat hits differently when there’s no power inside where I can go cool off, or outside to run my fan on the deck to help me be cool and deter the damn flies.
WHYYYYYYYY is all this random shit happening to meeeeee?!?!?!
