It's hitting close to 90 here today. I went for groceries because when it's hot for some reason fried chicken just seems right. Happily, I got out of the store under $63.00. When I went in it was about 76 and when I came out that had changed to 82.
I remembered to fill the gas tank for Monday...I have bought a place 2+ hours away and MY home inspection is Monday afternoon. There was a inspection done previously, and I have it but that was from a few months ago and I am making sure nothing else has cropped up in the meantime due to a few things I saw that were not noted on the previous inspection. Keys will be in my hand at the 1st of Aug. Paying cash and I believe the 'rents would be really happy with my choice.

That house I was looking at dropped 20K in price today after 2 weeks on the market. It just has to do that 4 or 5 more times and it will be in my price range. There's an open house on Sunday so I'm going to try and make that. It’s a beautiful house but where would you put Gus and all your barn animals? I'd have to board Gus somewhere, possibly at my friend's place where I used to keep my horses. The goat is very old. Every month she is still around is a miracle. Chickens I would just add to one of the neighbors flocks. That just leaves Cuddles, the barn cat (spoiler alert...she is not cuddly). I don't know what I'd do with her.

Chicken soup may seem like an odd choice for a hot day, but I have half a bag of Shanghai tips getting old in the veggie drawer so they are going in a pot of chicken broth with onion, celery, corn, green beans, chicken breast, and egg noodles. I'll add some garlic naan from the freezer and call it dinner What are Shanghai tips? Soup sounds yummy! Shanghai bok choy is a variety of bok choy, milder and more tender than some of its kin. The tips are very young shoots of the plant, no more than 4 inches long. I usually just steam them and serve with sesame oil and soy sauce, or toss them in a stir fry at the last minute, but we're sort of burned out on those preparations right now

What am I doing now? Wishing adults, you know, acted like adults. Not gonna happen. Covid showed us who the real snowflakes are. The annoying part is, they are still continuing to act immature. I'm so glad I don't work in the public sector now.

Something really weird happened yesterday. My computer crapped out again and I was desperately trying to contact my computer guy, Richard. I must have called him 40 times, getting a strange message about roaming charges and I couldn't leave a message.
I finally said 'Screw it! I'm going to the pool", and went on the balcony to see what the weather was like, whether it looked like rain. Who do I see walking into the building? Richard! Evidently, he has another client in my building. If I had gone on the balconly one minute later, I would have missed him. Anyway, he fixed the issue for $10 and told me to always keep the computer on. (It wouldn't start), and I was still able to make it to the pool.
Talk about serendipity!

Got home from work just in time. The sky was looking ominous, but hadn't started raining yet. It got really dark, the wind picked up, and suddenly you couldn't see the neighbor's house out the window! Sheets of rain hitting the windows, thunder, just a wild storm front.
Good thing DS5 bailed on (yet another) friend's grad party today.

At home eating pizza and enjoying an adult beverage.
Earlier I was debating going to the beach festival or the church festival. Looked at the weather map and decided to stay home. We are under a severe thunderstorm warning.

There is a paint color called elephant skin. I don't know who thought of that. But, whoever did I think needs to be fired. All I can think of are dust baths on my walls. They are dirty enough, thank you.

I feel like I’m turning into a witch lately, it seems like I’m constantly irritated by one thing or another.
I am currently irritated that there is a big ass truck parked in the middle of the cove. If I needed to go somewhere, the only reason I might be able to squeeze out is because I’m backed into the driveway and can navigate better driving forward . But that’s only if I drive the tiny Jeep. I seriously doubt the Tahoe could get out, and I bet whoever owns the truck would be passed if their baby got scratched or worse.
But how fucking rude is that, to park like that?! I don’t mind all the cars in the cove, they are 2 and 3 deep, blocking each other in, which isn’t my problem, but I do mind the big ass truck in the middle of the cove, in front of our driveway.
I’m really tempted to make up a reason to need to get out of my driveway. And drive the Tahoe. Mister is taking a nap and hasn’t seen it yet. When I was irritated about the grass this morning, I asked him if he was going to at least bring the garbage can off the street. He said no, he’s leaving it there on purpose so they won’t block us in our driveway because they’ve done it before. But they still managed to do too much.

The brown on the right is beginning of my driveway. I know you love the T's and have made every possible attempt to honor their mourning time, but oh hell, no. To be honest, could an emergency vehicle like a fire truck or ambulance get through to your house if needed? I don't think so.

Enjoying a large serving of raspberry lime club soda as my hydration after the first day of a swim meet. You know it's hot when you get out of a cold pool and you're thirsty. I was consuming fluids on the entire drive home and I am still doing it. And I brought extra water to drink at the pool. Dinner was grilled shrimp and salad, about as simple as it gets. I did run a load of laundry, and the dishwasher is going. I am watching the Tour de France replay.

And right on cue, another house issue. Looks like the heating element on the water heater has gone out. Easy enough fix, but it is 25 years old. Should we just do the element or replace the whole thing? I'd say just the element at less than $20, but with the way so much has failed over the last 2 years DH will likely want to go the other way.
UGH. Worst possible timing. I need DH in vacation mode, not $ stress mode.
ETA - We have the $, it has just been so much over the last 2 years. He stresses over the big stuff.

I had to turn off the AC unit to hear telly, but its now 79 in here so will need to turn it back on.
I see the temperature gauge on the front porch says 105. It is in some sunlight and gets to the 90's but never seen it that hot before since being here.
There was a ton of motorcycles that went by this morning, practically shook the place as they roared by. Son would enjoy a ride like that.
I got my iron and ironing board out to press some clothes. It's a new one I bought for here, it has digital controls, didn't even realize that, so really different. Didn't pay that much.
I'm watching a movie called Magellan about a scientist exploring space, it's really interesting, kind of a different approach. I bet it was supposed to be a series, because the end is like a new beginning. I liked it.

I would change it out, one that old might be half full of sediment. You may be paying for trying to heat it. Could make your light bill go down, just a thought.

Hey, oh, hey, wait... You do realize this is perfect right? With dirty walls no need to paint. If anybody makes a comment or looks a bit askance all you need to do is say is "I wanted to try this new color - elephant skin. And I really kind of like it"

Making up reasons to get out of your driveway is proof of that. By the time you DO need to get out of your driveway, the truck will probably be gone, anyway. If it's not, go over there and calmly ask them to move it. They will. You need to relax, mon ami.

Grab bars did not get installed today but I had company and Amelia's feeder is at the lowest setting possible.
DN3 and his wife came with her son and my great niece. They had been out riding her horse. Showed me videos of them riding.
DN2 was supposed to come but was going to a farm auction. He was still at the auction when DN3 said they needed to get back to town.
He is going to charge his drill, which he hadn't done, and come tomorrow afternoon. It's definitely not an emergency.
It's nice that Amelia isn't getting so much food, too.
When my great niece turns 16 in November and gets her driver's license (she took driver's ed a summer ago), she will be driving my parents' 2003 Mercury that my sister drove after my parents gave it to them. Then it became the farm car. Then it was DN3's car in high school.
It's gone through the oldest great nephew and now his sister will be using it. She said she already has paid for the parking permit and will be able to park on campus since she isn't a freshman. She said her brother hated that he had to take her to school this year. It wasn't cool but his parents told him they provided his first car and he was doing it.

The day we closed my buyers listed my former house for rent. Overall, it is in great shape, but the room they are calling an office needs a new drop ceiling and paint. I loved how the room with the pool table is now a "playroom." That doesn't bring up the same image to me but whatever. It is just funny because I would have highlighted the air-conditioned sunroom and two decks instead. But whatever . . .
I love my house, but I should have purged more. My biggest problem so far is my kitchen "gadgets" drawer. At the other house, it had built-in dividers, probably for silverware. These are a fraction of that size, and everything is just in there all together. They need separating. I already took out the ones I don't use much. But I am going to have to figure out a way to organize the ones that I am keeping.
First world problems, of course.

long ass day today, I'm exhausted. it took me 2h to get to the bridal shower this morning, 3 to get down to pick up the pups, and then another 45min to get home after that. the shower was an um, interesting theme, that I'm not going to detail here in case any of the older generation is a lurker here. I've never been to a dry bridal shower before today, and where I knew just my family there, a mimosa might have taken the edge off the drive up there. jussayin... I saw parts of this state I've never seen before, as the GPS directed me new ways, and I'm okay with never seeing some of them again.... but I will never voluntarily go from very southeastern MA *through* Boston to go to very northeastern MA in the summer, esp when an airport access tunnel is closed for major repairs. cuz is lucky I love them.
driving home, I realized that I hadn't really eaten much at the brunch, and was getting hangry/shaky. so I texted mooch and M to ask if they would join me for snacks and a solid cocktail, and we met up at the sports bar. I had a cup of soup and got a small pizza packed to go. pups and I got home about half an hour ago, and I'm about ready for bed. LD went to bed as soon as we walked in, Punk is pouting b/c I'm still up and on this screen here. I just wanted to catch up a little online before calling it a night. I'm absolutely wiped out.

I got texts saying my two pair of glasses were ready; DH heard nothing. He called and one was in, they just didn’t let him know. Then he called back about second pair and they said the lenses broke when they tried to put them in the frames. I’m going to pick up my mine this week whether his second pair comes in or not

If it's not, go over there and calmly ask them to move it. They will. You need to relax, mon ami. Well, of course I don’t want to be cranky and irritable all the time like I have been lately. It would really be helpful though, if people around me stopped doing stupid shit. I’ve tried the patient and kindness road, and all I did was make myself really, really sick, physically and mentally. I’m sure there has to be a middle ground, but for now, I’m back to, if something irritates me, I’m going to at least acknowledge it, even if I pick my battles with addressing it. And making my displeasure known, when warranted, actually feels better to me and more true to who I am and what works for me. To thine own self be true, or something like that. Maybe the zen like state that I use to strive for was good for a time, but isn’t for me at this point in my life, because it seems to give the people in my life the wrong ideas about me. I started trying to hold my tongue because people close to me say I don’t always know how to talk to people, even when I try to be gentle, and I feel like there is probably some truth to that. I’m over it. Of course I didn’t “make up” a reason to need to leave my house today. I said I was tempted. But the next time the T’s say they are having company, I will politely ask that they make sure their guests don’t block our driveway, since today was not the first time their guests have done that. I don’t go looking for things to be upset or irritated about, but those things seem to keep finding me. I really just want to mind my business and live a peaceful, joyful life, whatever that means to ME, and I am just beyond over constantly dealing with unnecessary, stupid shit. So keep it away from me, or deal with how I react to it.
