I learned the hard way about raw stuff after stomach upset. This was before I learned I had an allergy to food sulfites. I had a reaction to shrimp tacos and then when I was feeling up to eating the next day, I had a salad with my soup. Pretty sure that was food poisoning. Never again. I was traveling for work and wanted to die.

Well, another day to muddle through before I get my rejection letter. Actually, two. I took a first interview 3 weeks ago. I know that moved ahead to the second round without me, since they didn't email me for a second interview. But, three weeks for second interviews/filling the position should be plenty long enough for them to get their stuff together. It's been like over 6 weeks now. That's slow.
People are also peeing in my cheerios. I know I'm not always clear. But, it gets tiring when no one communicates with me, other than my children.
But you know, I'm told things.
Man, and I stitched and watched two episodes of Will and grace this morning.
DD interviewed for a job in MN quite a while ago. She assumed it was filled, but her boss seems to think she is still in the running. She got eliminated from a position in Fl b/c her on paper Manager was in Europe and was not able to respond to the 2 question e-mail that was sent out. She will have opportunities in Boston and Utah soon too. Hopefully something will come her way soon. I know one job I got with a large company it took them about 3 months to fill. They were hiring an entire department for a government contract. It took that long for the contract to be finalized. Most of us were shocked when we were eventually hired as we had given up on that job. Hopefully something comes your way soon.

We get our heating and cooling system serviced twice a year before each season the applicable system is needed. We spent $10k in 2017 on a new furnace, AC, and ductwork, so damn right I am keeping my investment in top shape! It's also included in our plumber's service plan, so we kind of make out in the deal. We have a 112-year-old house and we have a plumber over once a year to do something, it seems. It just seems that most of what they do is see if something is getting worn out or going to fail (or they THINK it's wore out and going to fail) and replacing it preemptively, where as I'm kind of the, "I'll fix it when and if it breaks" type, after all $200/year for service over the 24 years is $4800 I could just apply to a new furnace. But, I also have back up heat sources, so I can wait for a week for a repair in January.
I never did this, because I could not afford to be left stranded. I was single, with family 1500 miles away and minimal mechanic know how. As a result, I have never been left stranded. Stuff may have been replaced earlier than it could be, but it didn’t fail. Last time something failed on either TD or myself was when his timing belt broke with 75,000 miles on it (replacement was 105k or 10 years….it was 10 years). Since my car was the same year, I didn’t wait around for 105k miles.

Although, the only time I've ever actually been stranded with a vehicle (outside of dead batteries) was with a brand spanking new F250 not 3 months off the assembly line. The cam sensor or something went out on it and it died on me in the middle of an intersection.

Oh, egg pans. I have stopped arguing with DH about how much money he spends on those. He’s almost as serious about his pans as he is his knives. Cook’s Illustrated says that they have a finite lifespan. Their suggestion is to buy what works for you, at the price range you are happy with and plan on discarding it after it stops working. I get about 8-9 years out of mine. I buy Caphalon pans. For knives, I have a set of an off brand I like because of the handle and how they fit my hand. I paid quite a bit for them, but not ridiculously. They stay incredibly sharp, and TD tops them off.

Why are you eating raw cauliflower just after you've had episodes of really bad diarrhea for several days? That's probably the worse thing you can eat...anything in the cruciferous family. When I was hospitalized for digestive issues, I was able to order from a sizable menu. Even when I was well enough to be discharged, they wouldn't deliver my Thai food. The kitchen called me and said 'Sorry, but you can't have that. Doctor's ordrers. No cauliflower, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, or anything in that family.' I ended up eating an incredible salmon dish with a creamy dill sauce, but that's neither here nor there. You really should be paying more attention to the food you're eating. No hospitals around here are serving anything close to that type of food. You are lucky if the "ham" is not gray. Ewww! They finally came to the conclusion that patients improve faster if they like the food they eat, instead of pushing away the tray with overcooked vegetables, jello and grey mystery meat. So they hired good chefs, and developed an extensive menu, that patients can choose from. Just pick up the phone and order what you want, any time of the day. In 30 minutes, the food comes to your room. The food was excellent. The kitchen had the particulars of every patient so if rhey're lactose intolarent, they don't get the ice cream. I didn't get the Thai food because it had broccoli in it. "Would you like the salmon instead?" Yes please. This was the Montreal General Hospital.

Like in Canada, the US has hospitals where the food is excellent, and not so excellent. For example, where I had my hip surgery, there was a menu we could order off of and it was fairly extensive, and quite good. You ordered like room service. The food got delivered within 15 or so minutes of the call, piping hot. In addition, visitors could order from the menu, but they needed to pay cash (it was very reasonable, like $7 or so). OTOH, my former FIL’s hospital food in Vancouver was horrible. The food in our local hospital is pretty bad too.

I had the same thought. I love Cooked Cauliflower, but it is on the do not eat side of the Low Fodmap diet the Gastrointestinal PA I recently saw gave me. I listed off all the foods I had identified I can not eat and she gave me the low Fodmap diet. There were only a few new foods on it that I had not identified as causing me problems. Surprisingly, I had thought I was completely lactose intolerant, but there are some cheeses like cream cheese and mozzarella that are listed as ok. I am slowly testing to see if I can eat them. I had cream cheese on a bagel on Sunday and did not have any issues. I suggest you review this list and test it out. Definitely you should keep a food diary (I admit I never have done this, I just figures out what was causing me issues over about 20 years until I finally went to a Gastroenterologist). www.idealnutrition.com.au/fodmap-food-list/That was interesting, thanks. Yes, you can eat some hard cheeses, like gruyere, even if you're lactose intolarent.

When I was hospitaized at the Verdun General when I had my heart attacks, the food was not so excellent.

Speaking of hospital food they only thing available for us to eat at the hospital my mom was at was Subway. I now have a burning hatred of all things Subway. Did Subway personally do anything to me? No but their sandwiches suck and eating them for 4 days straight was hell.
Plus it makes me feel better sometimes to project all my angst and grief onto a franchise I can physically see and loathe. I flip the Wal-mart Subway off from time to time.

Le Creuset did okay for four ish. He uses them at least once a day and sometimes three.

Met the new dentist this morning and like him and his staff. I'm $308 lighter for the exam and x-rays, and have a cleaning scheduled for August 3 for another $100. He's only 10 minutes from the house with good parking so I'm happy. for everyone struggling with food sensitivities and reactions - that has to be really miserable.

The hospital my grandma was in had a pretty good cafeteria available to us. They also had a coffee shop/snack bar with some decent options. They had a menu for her to order from that varied from day to day. The nurses would bring extras of anything they thought she'd eat.
However, my grandpa died in that hospital and I signed my grandma out of it to go home with hospice so I'm all set with never stepping foot inside again.
100% though crappy food options on top of a hospital just makes it worse in a way that doesn't need to happen.

My will to work this week is officially dead and my brain wants to enter vacation mode. It's a shame we don't leave until next Saturday and there's still a full work week to get through. Sigh... I have no vacation time coming up but ditto. I used up all my spoons yesterday running a 4 person interview gauntlet. Now I just want to crawl in a hole and sleep. I hear what you’re saying, but also this is sort of my default state

Well, turns out the problem with T2's car is that someone cut off the catalytic converter. It had to have happened at her work. The car was fine when she went in and made an awful sound when she came out. The guy at the shop said he was impressed they got underneath the car because it sits so low to the ground. He fixed it for $100 so I'm not too mad about it.

Our small town hospital has good food. It's also order from a menu, with your limitations of course. When we get blood work we eat in the cafeteria at times. Last time I was admitted late at night so just sandwiches at that time. But at least they had something to eat.
They have a good salad bar and a nice choice of foods in the cooked food area.

It really does. I will say giving birth at UNMC was nice. I got my dates mixed up though and thought it was Mongolian Beef Day so I sent DH down to get me some. I was SUPER excited. It was not Mongolian Beef Day. He took a REALLY long time coming back because he wasn't sure what to do and was afraid I was going to murder him. He knew the second round that you don't deny your wife her cravings He got Orange Chicken which was pretty good.

I am so tired, I did sleep good last night, woke up at 9, lay back down till 10. I could stay in bed all day.
But time to get dressed, going to get stain and finish my front porch today.
I'm talking about painting the patio, hubs won't like it, but there are some newer paints that adhere well and don't peel off. DIL said they had a pressure washer we could clean it with. She said she would help, it sure makes for an easy to clean, pretty floor.
I may have them come for dinner tonight. Just hamburgers and fried potatoes with a salad. She invites them for dinner sometimes, LOL! I don't care if I feel like cooking and she does help me clean up, so it's not on me.
They are keeping little guy over the weekend, he doesn't want to go, but I'm tired and may lay around and sleep a lot. He will be here Friday though. I may have to admit to them I wear out at times. That makes me feel old, sigh.
