Dc has strep. Getting the very cheap rx filled took umpteen calls to every major pharmacy in town, but first dose is in. Poor kid. That sucks. Hopefully they feel better soon.

Trying to keep my poop together. Today is *the* day. I still need to put some finishing touches on items and practice. Script mostly typed out. However the missy decided to wake up and get into mischief. So, I painted nails. (For the record, I was planning on us doing something together this morning. After I finished this and that, as well as dry run).

If grandson wants to go to soccer, I will glady take him. It would be right around here somewhere so that isn't even an issue. I haven't heard anything else about it. Don't know if he will or won't. Or his folks can take him, I'm not keeping him from doing anything. This just gives his folks a chance to do stuff with other adults. You don't see kids out and about playing, grandson said they are probably all inside playing on computers or watching stuff on telly. He is likly correct. Also this is an older community so less kids. But I imagine most are in daycare or some type of sitting like that. I got my stain, nails for picture hanging and screening today. I still have to return the indoor stain to Walmart. I would also like to paint the concrete on the patio. i have been cold all day, it was chilly out, even grandson said he was cold. I actually turned the furnace on awhile ago it is 60 outside now. Going to take a warm bath and see if that helps. Can't believe grandson has not tried so many different foods, I'm wondering if he just doesn't pay attention. He will try most anything I give him. Some foods he likes some he wont, ok with me. I bought he and DD some sushi today, some luncheon meats and cheeses. I will likely fix them a salad tomorrow, going to take a hot bath and read for a bit in the tub,d that will likely get me warm. brrrrrr. Wednesday want to go to Westport, I still have gas, almost half a tank, this care gets great mileage. Westport has an aquarium with a touch tank for youngsters. It looks like they are open by appointment during the week and admission is only $5 for seniors and children; maybe if you call today, you can get an appointment to visit tomorrow. That could be something fun for your grandson and, being a smaller place, not too exhausting to walk through. Here's their website westportaquarium.weebly.com/

Good luck gira! As to cg’s grandson: I was surprised at how extremely happy it made my kid to go back to social things like school and camp after the pandemic isolation. He’s just about glowing when I pick him up from camp these days Every kid is different (and some parents are more detached than others) but a kid that age might well not have the perspective to ask for organized peer activities like soccer or camp.

I gave in and ordered a new laptop on Prime Day. I should probably consider doing that, and get my personal shit off this work laptop.

Speaking of prime day.... I feel like Lurky and Gira have possibly posted about lego deals in the past? Not linked to specific Amazon deal days, but any suggestions on how to find those? Ds likes the big nasa and map kits and I'd love to get any discount on them.
And I'm seriously thinking about bunnies again. I don't need bunnies. But I wants them. If dc is feeling better I think we can start our volunteering this Saturday potentially so maybe I'll hold off until then and we could see about adopting from them.

Our local shelter has had a ton of rabbits lately. It's $20 to adopt one which is pretty cheap. I've been tempted to try again but now we have Wilbur who really likes to try to eat rabbits so that is a hard no.

I am going to gripe this morning, doesn't mean I will let it affect my day.
It was pretty cool here yesterday and this morning just plain cold. It's 54, need to see what the temperature is going to be today.
Yesterday grandson said he was cold, so I called DIL to see if I could get him a pair of long pants from his closet. She said oh he isn't cold, he doesn't need them, so not much I could do about that. Even adults had jackets on or long sleeve shirts and pants. I did and DD. Also he has a jacket here with ears on the thing. My hubs even told them how silly it looks at his age and it does, you don't see something like that on young boys, DIL says oh its so cute and kids his age wear them, I haven't seen any, maybe girls. So I'm buying him a jacket to wear here other than that. They still have size 2 shoes on him, I bought last year and I got him a new pair for this year, oh they are too big. I can't see his feet not growing for a year?? I'm going to check the pair they sent and see if they are to short, maybe they haven't grown but they sure look bigger to me. He wears crocs most of the time, which is fine with me, but sometimes certain shoes are better for certain activities. It's not about new clothes, she takes good care of his clothing, its neat and ironed most of the time, but he is growing and trying to make a young boy cute can make him the subject of ridicule at school, I can't believe son doesn't say something, he knows that well. I'm going to ask if I can get him a haircut, he needs it bad, she was wanting it scissor cut or something but hasn't got it done. I will ask if I can as we want to go to the coast tomorrow and want him to look nice. But I won't if she doesn't want me to. I know it is hard to let your kid grow up and he is going to do it no matter what. He doesn't want to go to bed till I go to bed with him. I have him go anyway, even if he doesn't want to. He is still sleeping with his mom a lot of nights. I don't know when it's too old to do that. I made sure my kids slept in their own beds. If need be I would lay down with them, but they rarely needed that. But then DD and son slept in the same room for quite a few years, longer than they should have 7 and 11 until we got a 3 bedroom house. But likely helped them not to be afraid. I never had problems getting them to bed. Son always went early and got up early, so did DD.
I am trying to walk a narrow road to keep peace. Hubs said well if you were in Indiana with him it wouldn't be a question. I said well they weren't going to let him come this summer if you remember, because he was going to be in soccer. Little guy would rather go to Indiana, he told me next summer he wants to come down for the whole summer, he misses doing stuff with grandpa. So I don't know if this is the best or not. We spent a lot to make sure we are still in his life. If it doesn't work we will sell the place, not an issue with us. We should recoup most of the money if we did. But giving it a chance first. As busy as hubs is on the house this summer he wouldn't really have had the time to devote to him this year.
By the way where is this good meat market that is around here someone told me about a month or so back? I would like to try it.
I even turned the furnace on this morning and got it to 69 in here, brrrr.
All is well, I will work around things.

The answer is nothing. I did not miss a single thing throwing stuff together at the last minute - and pre-coffee! At last proof I can actually function before coffee. Or maybe it was muscle memory that took over but who cares. It is a win either way. One more day in this wonderful place before we head back down towards the bay area. And we couldn't have chosen a better period for it here as the temps here will go up to 109° while it will stay in the upper 80s to low 90s at home.

And yes, someone asked, DIL does volunteer at his school but not sure doing what or how often. Doesn't sound like very often, she just tried last year.
Last night little guy and I had a snack before bed, DD didn't want anything. We had asparagus dressed with some butter. He really liked that.
We also went to DQ yesterday, it was close by afterall and I found it.

Hit or Miss. They do have the ministry of magic discounted at like 30%. Target has some lego sets on sale too for a good discount.
You also might consider Costco. I saved 20-25% on a couple of sets for the kids. Saved me $40.

I made a purchase last night that only chiver78 can appreciate. I am going to the Tribute concert for David Crosby in Santa Barbara in August. The band is the one he had put together to do live one off shows in the area. One was scheduled for about a month after he died and the band went ahead and did it because they already had the venue booked. That one was tickets purchased in person only. For the tribute, it's online tickets and I was sent the presale code by my Monday Night Piano Bar artist. The tribute concert is this band plus Shawn Colvin and other guests to be named later. I did not go the VIP route as it's a band reception afterwards and I truly only want to be with Croz and he isn't here. Hotels in Santa Barbara are ridiculously expensive but I wanted one within walking distance of the venue so I don't have to rent a car. Need to call the hotel about options to and from the airport. Looks like Lyft is an option and shuttles. There is also a city bus that I will not take. Flight was covered by the credit from the canceled Joni Mitchell trip.

Because, you are right - it is definitely a narrow road to keep the peace. The bottom line is, it doesn't matter what you like or what you think, it's not your kid. Their kid, their rules. Being a grandparent can be difficult. Sometimes it's just not clear how much you can really involve yourself or intervene. Very delicate balance some days. For what it's worth, lots of kids around here wear the hoodies with the ears at that age. If that eases your worry at all. Enjoy your time with him. The time will fly by faster than you think.

countrygirl2, remember, I work with kids. Many of them--boys and girls--wear those sweatshirts with ears. Please let that one go.

Someone here mentioned a while back that Stewart's Meat Market in Yelm is a good place. Is that near you? I suggest you not take too narrow a view toward what you can and can't do with your DGS and whether it was worth your time to buy the place there. This is just one trip, one summer. The change of scenery is good for you and DD, and you can make trips at other times of the year and spend time in the comfort of your home. Your presence is doing a world of good to ease your DS and DDIL's load in life. Just having you nearby is likely a comfort to them. As we age, our kids worry more about us, and everyone there likes having you around. As you get rid of more rentals, you and your DH will be spending less time doing chores on your properties, and you will have less to do at home and be able to go for more, and longer, visits than if you were just flying in for quick visits. You are bored where you live in Indiana. Remember? Don't let this turn into a "grass is greener" situation, where when you are in WA you think you would be better off at home, and when you are in IN you want to be in WA. Make the minutes count and appreciate your new-found flexibility.

Just go to walmart and get some sweatpants and hoodies he can keep at your house.

countrygirl2 , remember, I work with kids. Many of them--boys and girls--wear those sweatshirts with ears. Please let that one go. Even in middle/high school.

I keep an eye on slickdeals dot net. They have good conversations in the comments on the things that are on sale and whether they’re worthwhile (generally, not just lego specific). Lego dot com has a VIP days sale right now, although in general I’m not seeing much on nasa or map kits. Star Wars, on the other hand… I try not to buy much Lego these days bc we have far too many unopened kits. Now I want bunnies too, except PP is a bunny hunter as well with at least one success under his belt.

We have lunch weekly at a local sushi joint very popular with students from the elite catholic high school down the street - those kids are really into those sweatshirts and jackets with ears, especially the fox, panda, and Hello Kitty. Since uniforms are required at school, that outerwear is the only non-uniform fashion statement they can make.

My kids can't wear them to their Catholic school, there is a dress code even for outerwear. But, if they are off campus they can wear whatever they want.

I ordered a security camera on Prime day. That is out so far. Not fond of the new layout on the app.

I may or may not be standing in a super hero stance saying "I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and darn it, people like me."

Me: Avoid Amazon because they're the devil and you don't need anything. Also me: Ooh, my Aqua Bomb moisturizer is on sale and there's a lightning deal for a cat pool table. I should get both.
